Sutherland Autobody

Larry and his team did a great job with my Mini Cooper. They were fast and fair and they even replaced a light bulb for my head light for free when it was working intermittently. I highly recommend Larry and his team at Sutherland Autobody.

I can’t say enough good things about this place. We took two cars there over the past couple of years and both times they provided guidance and/​or minor repairs and sent us on our way without charging us a dime! This place is an HONEST business, period. I always promised myself if I ever needed a body shop, this would be the place I would go. Well, a few weeks ago someone hit my wife in a parking lot and took off. I contacted my insurance company and no surprise, Sutherland was one of their preferred shops to work with. So that just made things easier. Everything was handled between my Insurance and Sutherland. They arranged to get a rental car and everything was easy peasy. Three days later my car was beautiful again and had a nice detail job to boot. This place does it right. If you are in need, you have to check these guys out!

I’m giving 5 stars on the *people at Sutherland only, because I didn’t actually have work done there, But I talked with Larry for over a week about what to do with my poor, wrecked car.
I wish I knew how wonderful their work was, but sadly my car had to be turned over to salvage. :(
But I DO know about their customer service. From the very first phone call Larry and his crew were so nice to me! They were helpful, polite, gave their honest opinions and called back when they said they would.
The cost out-​of-​pocket to fix the front end damage on my sweet little Scion tC was just too much compared to the car’s actual value– it was such a hard decision to not fix and keep my first brand new car, my baby… :(
And it was my first wreck ever!
But it was Larry who suggested salvage as a solution– instead of collect $ 7000+ for parts & labor, he suggested I sell my car to salvage and go get a different car. He didn’t have to be so honest, He could have been a typical «take you for all you’ve got» kind of mechanic, but he wasn’t.
I appreciate that. There are still honest people out there!
**I had my car on Larry’s lot for 10 days, and didn’t end up using his services– no charge. I’m paying for nothing but a tow.
I believe Sutherland takes good care of its customers. I was ready to trust them with my car, you should too!

I need to say this is the second car Sutherlands fixed for us. Larry does not compromise on quality. Both times he had rentals cars waiting for us. His customer skills are second to none. Hs pride and attention to detail in producing a quality product cannot be matched.
I begins from his front office, to Manny and his craftsmen in the shop. We are lifetimes customers.

Awesome service and very fair pricing and good quality work. Will be bringing my vehicles here whenever the need arises.

Getting into an accident is always frustrating, but thankfully Sutherland makes the process a whole lot easier.
Their staff is amazing, friendly, and accommodating. Manny is a pleasure to work with and is very kind. My car looked pretty bad, but Sutherland gave it back to me looking like it was right off of the lot! I’ve had body work done from other places on previous cars, and I’ve always been able to spot the work with a critical eye. However, their work truly makes it as if it never happened. To top it all off, their prices are extremely reasonable. At Sutherland you really get it all.

Some of the most genuine staff I have ever come across. They do quality work and are honest and upfront about what it’s going to take to make your vehicle whole again. I appreciate not feeling taken advantage of in an industry I know little about.
I recommend them 100%. They have never disappointed me or anyone else I have referred.

If you are new to Austin and looking for a place to get some auto body work done, do yourself a favor and go here. That was my situation and I picked this place based solely upon others reviews. Couldn’t be happier with the job they did, car looks brand new all over again! True it’s not the cheapest place in town but quality work never is.

Called them up on February 15^th inquiring about replacing my car’s driver’s side mirror. I spoke to Larry, and he gave me a reasonable quote, so I told them to go ahead and order the part. He said he’d call me back when it arrived. He oddly asked for my phone number after I had already given it to him, but I didn’t give it much thought at the time. He said he was having, «One of those days,» and I’ll grant that we all have those.
Two weeks later, and still no word (note, I initially erroneously wrote three weeks here). I called yesterday afternoon to see what was up. Spoke to a woman whose name I did not catch, and she said Larry was in a meeting and would call me the next morning, noting that he sometimes buys parts and doesn’t tell her. She also asked me if he specified new and salvage, which is not something he mentioned at all, which makes me kinda wonder.
Anyway, it’s 1:53 PM today. At this point, there’s been too many red flags for this to just be «one of those days,» and this lack of professionalism over the phone doesn’t bode well for how they would treat my car. Besides, if they don’t want my business, I can just take it elsewhere. Too bad. This car is really old, and so there are a host of other things I’d have gotten fixed there if they’d done a good job with this one thing. I’ll update this if anything changes my opinion.
Update, 2:09 PM, Larry finally calls me up. Does he apologize and make it up to me? No, he says that what I did (presumably the above review) was «not cool» to do to a small business, and that someday I would understand when I grew up and had kids, and then he hung up. Opinion reinforced. 2 star review duly downgraded to 1 star.
I am always honest and fair. Look at my other reviews. The experience I’ve had with Qualitek Auto Body thus far leaves them in the dust. They said they’d get back to me right away, and then called me back within minutes with an informative answer.
And yes, Larry. I am a grownup with mouths to feed. Indeed, I used to work in customer service for an understaffed small business even though I hated it. But because I had lives depending on me, I took that job damned seriously, which meant taking every customer seriously no matter how big or small (customers aren’t stupid, so they can tell if all you care about is their money). Partly as a result, the company grew enough to staff up and allow me to move to a more behind-​the-​scenes role.
So I know *exactly* what it’s like. Besides, I am not responsible for your kids or your business, Larry. YOU are. A grownup would have known that.

They tried charging $ 100 for a simple task. I would have been okay with $ 60 – 70, but their charge is ridiculous. I know the work involved, so I would simply be paying for their break on top of some simple work. No thank you.
As far as actual bodywork, make sure that they don’t use cheap aftermarket bumpers. A lot of places will do that and you end up with a part that fits decently, but after a short period of time, you will notice your paint cracking and the tabs failing. Make sure to spend the extra time to check the parts prior to having them installed.
AND FYI Unilocal, I went there personally. If you remove this review because the owner didn’t like it, it shows how shitty your review service really is.

I wish I was able to put more than just 5 stars because the service here went way beyond all of my greatest expectations. I couldn’t have dreamed of better service and attention to detail.
I originally brought in my 2007 toyota tundra to have damage on the front right quarter panel and passenger side door fixed not only was the door and front right quarter panel fixed, the suspension was also replaced. Not only did Sutherland do a great job at fixing my truck they went way beyond the extra mile to buff and wax the paint on the side of my truck that had lost it’s shine, they also redid the pinstripe on both sides, when I got my truck back it was like brand new.
I can’t tell you how happy I was with the excellent service here, any time anyone has any questions of where to go if you need repairs look no further. I will be recommending all of my friends and family to take their repair needs to Sutherland.

I love Sutherland Autobody. The staff is friendly, hard working, and they strive to please their customers. They go above and beyond to help you not only get your car back into to tip top shape but they always go the extra mile, cleaning out the car before returning and helping you get set up with a rental. Love these guys! I have been using them for awhile now (at least a year at this point) and plan to use them far into the future. I trust them implicitly and would highly recommend them to anyone and everyone!

Incredible service! I’ll never go anywhere else. They got my bumper replaced on time and made it good as new. But on top of that, the employees were always kind and courteous and went out of their way to make me happy. They even washed and detailed my car!

I am so glad I went to Sutherland to get my car fixed! My car got hit while someone was trying to parallel park and took a good amount of paint off my bumper. I did a lot of research and went to multiple places to get estimates on my car, and this was the best option. They were incredibly friendly and willing to work with me as I went back and forth on what I wanted to do. When I finally decided to repaint the entire bumper, they got me in the day after I called and finished my car within a day. They did a fantastic job on the paint job and even fixed a few minor scratches on the other parts of the bumper, free of charge! Needless to say, I will definitely be coming back to Sutherland for any other autobody needs!

I haven’t written a review in 3 or 4 years and logged in just to review Sutherland Autobody– that is how pleased I am with them. I just picked my car up today. They did a great job fixing it, were timely, and they went WAY above and beyond my expectations in customer service. If I ever need my car repaired again, I’ll be taking it straight to this shop.
P. S. Before bringing my car here, I noticed a pretty bad review mixed in with all the five star ones, dug a little deeper, and agree with a previous reviewer that some people cannot be satisfied… and honestly seem a little nutty. Not all Unilocal reviewers are created equal.

Words will not be able to fully convey how happy I am with the service, friendliness, and auto body repair work received at Sutherland Auto Body. I worked with Larry Gilbert and he restored my belief that there are still «good guys» out there who have ethical business practices.
Long story about the accident that created my need for auto body work, but in short, this was a self pay and not insurance (no, not my fault — it involved a young driver who hit me blah blah blah).
I got several estimates around town but I felt «pulled» to work with Larry at Sutherland. We worked together for a mutually satisfactory repair and price and I was so happy (limited funds etc).
The repair was done within 4 days, looked OUTSTANDING, and the car had been detailed to boot! This was truly going above and beyond our agreement and I am so thankful for it! (He removed tree sap from the hood and the repair was on the back!!!)
I will MOST DEFINITELY go back to Sutherland Auto Body and work with Larry Gilbert again if my cars ever need auto body repair.

Austin seems to be a magnet for auto accidents. Prior to living in Austin I had never even had someone scratch my car. Fast forward 5 years and I’ve had someone total my car, rear end my car, and hit my parked car.
Did I mention that all 3 accidents were in a leased car? So, yeah I had to make sure the work was done right. I called Howdy Honda, where I had leased my car, and they suggested Sutherlands. I could not before happy with their level of work or their professionalism. After my second accident my car was lookin’ ROUGH. It had a completely crushed quarter panel, and the rear bumper had been been knocked almost clean off. After my repairs my car looked brand new. Even my Dad, who’s an absolute perfectionist was impressed, and that’s saying something.
No one is happy to have an accident, but Sutherlands makes the repair process as painless as possible.

The day my divorce was final my car was damaged by a certain valet company. (Not going to mention them because I get mistakes happen.) I was referred to Sutherland and I couldn’t have asked for better service. They Staff is amazing, especially Ernest and Larry. I will definitely refer my family and friends here, and in the event I need another stop at an autobody, this is where ill be coming.

I recently had an unfortunate attack by hail in Oklahoma City and had been avoiding getting the repair work done. Fortunately for me and everyone else in Austin, this place exists to provide superior customer service and fantastic work. I researched quite a bit in town before taking my vehicle in and the reviews don’t lie, this place rocks.
The front Office staff are humorous, professional, and extremely customer oriented. My vehicle was repaired perfectly and the detail job they did on it after the fact was worth the amount I paid on the deductible alone. They are very Pro Military and it’s rare to find a company in town that offers up a Military Discount and the discount they provided on my deductible left me smiling.
Look no further than Sutherlands, you will not be disappointed. I will use them from now on and also recommend them to everyone I know.
