I like this place. Ever since it opened. The music. Go for the live music. It never disappoints. Though… it’s always a little weird in there until the music starts… like no one really knows why they’re there(or why the other people are there) until the music starts… after that it’s all good.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. Weak, over priced drinks, rude bartenders, racist establishment. There are so many other bars on this street, no need to subject yourself to disrespect. I’ve been here several times before and each time wanted to give Rattle Inn the benefit of the doubt but no more. I went there last night and once again from the start of the night I got a bad vibe from the bartenders, with one in particular who for some reason pretended not to see me, walked the length of the entire bar and even when no one else stopped him to order a drink busied himself behind the bar rather than take my order. This night was a little different because we happened to encounter a man wearing a Trump hat, spewing all sorts of racist nonsense. Although we were standing nearby and could hear the conversation we did not engage. To be clear, my issue with this establishment is not their patrons as I know that is not something they can control but rather how this situation unfolded and management’s response. As the night went on the guy clearly wanted more attention and continued on with his banter. At one point someone at the bar(separate from our group) took off his hat and threw it, to which he automatically turned to the first black person he saw, grabbed her purse and started accusing her and yelling at her. As a group we tried to de-escalate the situation and moved away after he refused to apologize to the woman whose bag he grabbed. Throughout the night it became clear that this man was not a fan of people of color but we were determined not to let that ruin our night. Even when we tried to disengage he continued on with his commentary. Mind you, we were a group of all female and yet here was a man continuously trying to start trouble. When he tried to get in my friend’s face she finally asked him to leave us alone and get away from us. At this point the manager comes over with several bartenders and tells my(black) friend she needs to leave. Note to management — there was no need to bring backup with you, we were so uncomfortable we had already closed our tabs and were ready to leave. My friend finally spoke up for the group and as a result she was kicked out of the bar. The manager personally escorted her down the stairs and to the gate to make sure she left the establishment, with special instructions to the bouncer never to let her back in. And the aggressor? He remained inside enjoying his night. We were at Rattle Inn as part of an event for the law school and yet still the manager walked my friend out in front of all of our classmates without even trying to understand the situation. Not once did the manager try to ask what the situation was or at least kick both groups out of the bar. Why did the man get to stay instead when he was the one harassing us? Why was the manager so quick to assume my friend was in the wrong when all night this guy was trying to start trouble? Kudos on fostering racism and harassment and on demeaning victims in front of their peers. Rattle Inn, you’ve shown where you stand and you can be sure that none of us will be returning to your establishment. Furthermore, we will make sure that there are no future law school events held here.

Great Austin experience on West 6th! The music never disappoints, and the two-steppers are fun to watch!

This bar has a totally different vibe than the others directly off west 6th. Less posh and more bar atmosphere. Downstairs is a but small with a few TVs but upstairs is a large covered bar area. The floor up there is wood decked so spills don’t become slip hazards.

They don’t take paper ID. Fuck me for losing my license, right? I was supposed to join my friend at his work party. I wasn’t too surprised that they didn’t accept it but with all the other bars around the place, that’s really stupid for business. I asked to talk to the manager to make sure my complaint was heard and the bouncers were laughing at me the whole time. The manager also laughed at me and was smirking the whole time I was talking to her. I didn’t expect them to let me in but I wanted them to take my complaint seriously even if they couldn’t do anything about it. The whole experience was rude. The manager stood outside after I complained and watched me call my friend, smirking and giggling to the staff the whole time. Sooo disrespectful. They are plenty of other bars around. Don’t waste your time with rude people. Side note: it seems rude, racist bouncers are their thing based on the other reviews.

Rattle Inn was awesome! We went for a drink and ended up staying there for hours :) they have a super fun upstairs bar with an outside patio. Will in the front was super awesome! He let us keep our bags there while we waited for our flight home :) way more than expected. Thank you to the«big man» in the front!

Legendary Alabama quarterback Kenny Stabler’s nickname was the Snake so I’d generally be proud as a peacock that Austin’s Alabama game watch parties occur at this bar(see last paragraph). While there isn’t necessarily a true homage to Stabler(or Alabama for that matter), the upstairs roof bar has an appreciable number of TVs and a significant amount of the world’s greatest fan base, the one and only ALABAMA Crimson Tide. Drinks are fairly cheap, IPAs are present, and the bartenders seemed to be pretty friendly to me. Everything else about the place honestly could use a bit of a once over. Everything looks a bit dated, the TVs could be a bit larger and flashier, the bathrooms could stand to be slightly cleaner, and it was unfortunately a bit confusing to find the game watch in the first place(sadly, I waved off a couple of Alabama fans at the beginning of the day before realizing the Rattle Inn was opening only the rooftop portion of the bar). Also, if what Muhammad mentions in his review actually happened, I’ll have to stop patronizing this bar immediately. I’d really like to see an owner’s response to his review because what he described is absolutely reprehensible.

Worst experience I ever had. That pretty much sums this place up. In the past I enjoyed this place but I now refuse to ever set a foot in this horrible employee-plagued virus of a place. In the past I enjoyed your business, but I will not set foot again in this place until I receive an apology. Starting with your horrendous bouncers. I dare say racist bouncers, even though I’m technically white. He was friendly to me until he saw my last name and looked at me and told me that I was too drunk to come in when I had just gotten off of work and wanted to enjoy the night there. And I had not had a drink at all.

This is the most racist place I’ve ever been to, having grown up in the south my entire life. I’m completely appalled that people still behave this way. The door man wouldn’t let me in for the Alabama vs. Mississippi game tonight, at first making fun of my name until i asked for his manager. After the manager came, the doorman claimed he wouldn’t let me in because I was«too drunk», when i had only had 2 beers and was driving. The manager was completely unhelpful and took his doorman’s word for what happened — when I clearly was sober. Absolutely the opposite behavior of what I expect from Austin establishments — this is easily the most open minded city i’ve lived in. It’s upsetting that mentalities like this still exist, especially in our city. I’ll stick to star bar in the future, they know how to treat people of all colors. Wow is all I can say…

Rattle inn hosts Alabama Crimson Tide which is fantastic. It’s nice to have a central location. This is the second season I’ve been here for football. I’ve always had such a great experience. Bartenders are fast and efficient. It’s not getting 5 stars solely for one dude that works here. I work service industry. I work in a bar. I know it can get frustrating if customers are in the way but in order to deal with that you ask customers to kindly make a way so you can get by. Give them a heads up/first warning. The people next to me were warned to get out of the way or else they would be kicked out. That was their first and only warning. Give people a first warning man. People will understand a lot more than you would think instead of thinking they are Neanderthals.

Great roof deck bar! I went with a group of friends and luckily we got there before the masses arrived on a Saturday night. Bartenders were friendly and attentive, and the place seems to attract a nice crowd so I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to return!

Rattle Inn is an interesting place. They have a downstairs, indoor area where bands play and another indoor area that can be used for private parties. There’s also an outdoor downstairs area. Then they have the rooftop bar, which turned out to be a great place to watch fireworks this 4th of July. They also have some random arcade games. There’s usually not a wait to get a drink at the bar, which is great. The upstairs bathroom isn’t air conditioned enough for my taste and the downstairs bathroom is a single person bathroom, so there’s sometimes a line. One thing, is that I wish that they had misters outside. If they do, I’ve never seen them on. Maybe they’re attached to the fans on the corners of the bar upstairs. Or maybe, I don’t go to outdoor bars much in the summer. Not sure. Regardless, it’s a good place to go grab a drink.

Cool, two-story bar just off West Sixth! Bottom floor is indoors, with a small outside patio, and the upstairs is open air, but covered. They have a decent selection of Texas beers on tap, but it’s a full bar. Often have live music, and viewing parties for sports games!

We were looking for a private venue that would capture the essence of Austin for a national conference with people coming from all over the USA. People who come to Austin have high expectations about enjoying their time in one of the coolest cities in the US. We wanted to get it right and when we saw the Rattle Inn, we knew we had found the perfect spot. Cool open space, well stocked bar inviting everybody to hang out, great drinks, cool set-up(one of our guests said that when she walked in and so those cool chairs, she was happy because it felt like Austin! Once the sun goes down the skyline of Austin show its glory and it’s a beautiful sight — it’s like New York only way cooler. The friendliness of the staff is amazing and from the first moment on you feel right at home. The drinks are amazing and the service is quick. Ashley Copeland, The Rattle Inn’s Director of Events, is super competent and easy to work with — she knows how to get events right and produced a stellar evening that no-one will forget. Everybody had a great time and was raving about it in the conference feedback! Our company will definitely be back for more events with Ashley at the Rattle Inn.

I’m surprised to see that this place doesn’t have more amazing reviews. I’m a native Austinite but moved to Houston a couple years ago and come back enough to think that I still know the scene relatively well. Apparently not. I had never heard of this place before last Saturday when I went back to A-Town(is that what locals call it now? who knows) for a friend’s birthday party. First, this place is huge. The downstairs area was having some sort of awkward-pseudo-fancypants party where everyone was wearing tuxedos. However, the upstairs was amazing. There’s a great open layout, and the patio is amazing. It was a pretty cold and rainy night but the bar still had a great vibe with a lot of people of fairly diverse ages, backgrounds, etc. I almost forgot to mention that they have a live band playing! That night it had a very country-western vibe. Perfect for Texas. I had a Jameson & Ginger Ale(which my friend was convinced everyone knows as a ‘J&G’… the bartender did NOT know this) which was fairly strong and fairly priced. I didn’t have to wait any time at all, despite what a couple other reviews here say. The drinks were great, the crowd was great, and the vibe was great. Will definitely come back and bring friends from out of town.

Jägerbombs are –10– bucks. That’s a little pricy for a shot of that caliber… With that said, The upstairs is awesome !! Cool barrels as tables, and it’s pretty spacious . We came over on a wonderfully sunny day, so the ambience was chill

I’m not a local, but I’ve had occasion to visit the Rattle Inn twice in the past couple weeks. I’m a fan: — The upstairs patio is spacious, surprisingly warm in the winter(which is good!) and fitted with a lot of seating and standing options. It’s easy to find a spot to settle in or move among the crowds. — The location’s just a bit tucked away — you can hear people talk and you can have great conversations, but you’re also minutes from moving on to other options if your group wants to try something else. Perfect. — A few good beers on tap and in bottles, and the staff have always been happy to recommend one. Fine mixed drinks, and I don’t feel like the drinks are overpriced. I’ll be back in Austin in a bit, and I’ll probably start a night off at the Rattle Inn.

This place seriously has it all: great location, country theme below, and patio bar scene above. The parking close by tends to be available, even if you show up to West 6th late. Pros: –The drinks are very inexpensive. –There is live music all the time. –The patio upstairs is enormous. –There is a trail of deer antlers. –The bathroom ceilings are wallpaper with playboy centerfolds. –Dancing always. –My first Unilocal Elite party was here — which meant free tequila, free bbq, and Unilocal swag for days — i still use my Unilocal bike bell. Cons: –Sometimes they only have one half of the bottom floor open, Im sure for low traffic times. Random: I brought a couple friends(visiting one weekend from NY) to the Rattle Inn to start their«Austin Night»…one of the guys was invited to go up on stage and sing a cover song with the band that was playing live! He then danced with a cute thing at the front, we got our drink on, then headed to the next place. Looking forward to the next Unilocal Elite party here! FUUUUUNDAAAAAAY!
