I cannot justify paying $ 23 for 4 people to have small ice creams in a crowded, confusing place… There are several places to pay, how do they keep track of who has paid and who has not?! The ice cream was nothing special, neither was the service or chocolates… Will skip this next time…

Amazing food, great people and really nice gift shop. We had breakfast burritos which were HUGE and each bite was so fresh and so delicious.

Ok expensive Ice Cream($ 6 for two scoops), but it is really good ice cream, the people are very nice and they have outside seating facing the beach(and are dog friendly!). Had the Elvis Ice cream and it was wonderful.

I came in just for ice cream. I bought a scoop of the birthday cake and loved it. It didn’t have too many sprinkles but just the right amount. The workers were all friendly. It was the perfect treat for a day at the beach.

Wow. I’ve never been so disappointed in a place let alone an ice cream place and on father’s day. How incredibly frustrating ! So my boys and I prepare for the long 15 –20 minute wait in line for this amazing ice cream. We finally make it to the front of the line… ahhhhhh…and the 3 people seving ice cream start to help 4 other groups in line BEHINDUS. I’m like… hello!?? Are we invisible? ! Oh I’m sorry, I’ll hlep you after we’re finished helping those behind you since we’re already helping them… that’s what I’m told. The guy in front of me is SHOCKED. I say… ummm…REALLY?! So… one f’ing star for being jerks. Thnx. Oh! And I also purchased a thank you card. After the cashier rings it up I ask for a bag. Sure. She places my card in a puddle of water on the counter. Gee, thnx. So I go to get a new card. She’s there holding the bag and is frustrated with me that she ruined the card and what nerve of me to want to exchange it. Awesome. Not.

A busy little place beachfront that serve ice cream, sweets, and salt water taffy. Very friendly service… They also have a variety of knick knacks as well

Hula Hut is disguised as a tourist trap, but don’t walk on by! Their local-made, uniquely flavored sweets are the perfect treat to bring home from vacation. Try their jelly donut or carrot cake fudge! Or, if fudge isn’t your thing, there’s also ice cream — really, really good ice cream. I went for a scoop of their honey almond, which was divine on so many levels. I also tried their Doc’s Java, and let me tell you, this is no bubble-blowing baby ice cream. The coffee flavor is so strong that you could probably stand a spoon in it even if it were completely melted. Yum yum! On top of that, the staff is friendly. Always a great cherry on top.

Hula Hut Avila Beach Not your normal tourist trap selling trinkets. This place is special by way of the staff who truly look like they enjoy the work and how they remember what type of mocha you like if you wander in two days in a row. Yes there are the normal vacation related t-shirts and sweat shirts and nick knacks to make you shed your dollars… But the outside tables…3… And their daily warm plate breakfast specials… combined with the sound of waves and clear view of the ocean make this a good place to nibble, reflect and prepare for the day.

This little shop is a block away from our hotel so we have stopped in a couple of times so far. It has a little bit of everything… deli, coffee, ice cream, touristy nick knacks. Service was good. Most of the workers are college students from Cal Poly and friendly. A friend and I stopped in for a mocha in the morning. It was good and chocolately and hot. When we stopped in again in the afternoon, the lady at the counter remembered us and welcomed back. We ordered ice cream cones. The sea salt caramel was creamy and seemed to be made using real vanilla beans as it had the little flakes in it. There were tables inside as well as out. Since it was a warm day we opted to enjoy the sun and listen to the sounds of the ocean that is right across the street. The shop had the usual touristy items such as shirts and sign as well as kitchen ware. We ended up buying some of the nick knacks as they had some items I had never seen before. Will be back in the morning for another mocha!

Hula Hut has Doc Burnstein’s ice cream!!! Delicious! We always have to get our ice cream fix. It’s a mandatory stop every time we stay at Avila Beach. The staff is surprisingly kid friendly considering how many delicate cute gift items they have displayed everywhere. We enjoy sitting on the couches while indulging on the rich creamy ice cream.

I came in ready to loathe Hula Hut and ended up reasonably impressed. This is a solid affordable lunch option in Avila, because there’s nowhere else to go unless you want a calorie bomb at Custom House or you’re willing to pay for a more elegant, foodie-oriented meal at Ocean Grill. It’s just the basics – turkey or chicken sandwich and wrap, egg and tuna salad sammies, tacos – delivered without flair, but still reasonably good. It’s like a suburban SLO county mom made you lunch. Nothing groundbreaking, but nothing offensive, and the price is right at between $ 7 and $ 10 for everything on the menu. Major bonus = DOCBERNSTEINICECREAM in the case! Customer service was also great.

As we ventured in for some coffee for my man, I was like«really? were just going to be tourists and go to the obvious place right on the corner?» and he was all«yeah, why not?»…and I was like. «you know this place is gonna suck, they know everyone will come in and buy just because of their location here»… As we entered, I see a sea of fudge beckoning for my attention. Hi fudge. are you tasty? YES! Let me jump in your mouth and show you!(is what it probably would have said) I ordered 2 big chunks. One was a chocolate and sea salt caramel and the other was called salted nutty bar, which was a take on a Payday candy bar. They were both fantastic! But the sea salt caramel one was by far the best! I feel bad for thinking this place would not deliver the goods based on their obvious location but. I’m a skeptic and it(often) keeps me honest with myself. However, my skepticism was so wrong wrong wrong. my man loved his coffee and I loved the fudge. I already cannot wait to come back for more when we are back in town!

The Hula Hut is a small shop on the main street in Avila Beach. I heard it had a reputation for great ice cream and fudge. I had a chocolate craving and this hit the mark! I asked for two pieces thinking they would be boxed candy sized. My mistake… oh darn. There were 5 or more flavors to choose from and all looked really good. The store also sells trinkets, drinks and sandwiches. A great stop just a few miles off the freeway on the way to San Luis Obispo. It is worth the side trip.

Came here for a little treat after the nice dinner. My wife and I picked this place over there others because of the name(go figure). The place was crowded which I viewed as a good sign. They have a large selection of goodies but we went straight for the ice cream. I had carmel and that was REALLY good however my wife had vanilla and when I had a taste of hers I couldn’t even tell it was vanilla… Service… not as bad as other reviews. The line was kind of long and unorganized but another person came to help and he seemed a lot more outgoing than the other guy and even told me I made a good selection for my treat.(not my wife’s)

We came upon this place by accident as we were in Avila to catch the sunset. We stopped by for their crushed pennies which happened to be «housed» in a tiki statue which we thought was creative and the setup inside seemed cute. One thing I found odd was how the cashiers worked all areas so they tend to go from one area to another in between customers which makes you feel a little awkward to have them walk away without saying anything after they serve the customer before you. The staff wasn’t rude or anything but it might’ve been nice to have them acknowledge that they will be with you next instead of just walking away. We did come back in after the sunset as I saw that they were serving Doc Burnstein ice cream and I have been meaning to try it since last year so we came in for a scoop of banana peanut butter and honey almond and had dessert before dinner.
