Went for lunch on Saturday. Both bad entrees. Fish taco special was a small battered fried piece of fish with a little shredded lettuce in a soft taco. Got 2 with sides of bad guacamole and sour cream. Salsa edible and black beans for $ 18. My boyfriend had chicken sandwich. Roll bigger than slimy chicken with tiny piece of red pepper smothered in cheese. Pesto in container on side. Also like $ 18. Never again.

Not a bad place at all. Apps were great dinners were pretty good. Portion sizes were a little smaller then expected but all in all a decent place to stop for a nice lunch or dinner.

My favorite restaurant. I’ve been eating here for 40 years. I moved away to CA, but I come here each time I visit NY(3 – 4 times a year). I often get the fried seafood platter. Everything tastes fresh even after battering and frying. I like sitting outside at lunchtime when it’s warm. Everything I have had here is wonderful. The service is always warm and efficient.

Waiter recommended«chopped» baked clams for an appetizer. What we got was some flavorful muck and an over cooked clam in a shell. Hubby’s Manhattan clam chowder came out ice cold. I took this time to sneak out and smoke a cigarette, yeah I know. So I get back and the soup comes back, now it is luke warm. A tad salty. At least the packaged oyster crackers were fresh. We ordered the twin lobster tails with the«steak fries». Thirty minutes later two very over cooked and for me inedible lobster tails were served with some knock off Red Robin fries tossed on a bread plate. Please take note that due to the new chips in credit cards you have to inform the server prior to swiping your card how much you would like to tip. I threw my debit card at the hubby, told him to make a call and headed to the car. For a small place there were a bunch of servers not doing much. Also had to ask for some. defrosted then toasted bread. The table behind us must have gotten all eight baskets that were alloted for the night.

I swear on all that is holy the seafood bisque is the most amazing thing I’ve ever eaten in my life, if I could pick one thing to eat for the rest of my life it would be the seafood bisque from Babylon fish and clam. Most places I go to you’re not even sure what you’re eating because there are no large pieces of seafood just pureed mystery seafood, Franz the chef and owner uses top notch ingredients, in every spoonful you’re getting a large piece of lobster or whole shrimp. Trust me nothing compares if you’re ever in Babylon it is well worth the trip down to the marina A+ !!!

Although their food is not the worst and the restaurant environment is ok I can not support this business. The owner of this place is a tyrant. I had a friend that lived with me over the summer to work and she got a job here, she came home in tears everyday. The longest employee that works here is less then 6 months because everyone either gets fired or quits. He belittles his employees with insults either directly or indirectly and undermines any suggestion they may have. He doesn’t have a set schedule, for his employees to follow, and calls them the day before they need to work. This makes having a second job impossible, and imagine trying to make plans with friends. I’m in the business myself and my boss is my motivation to do better. She is supporting, understanding, and very helpful and direct with her instructions and teachings. My managers are the same. The man who owns Babylon Fish and Clam is nothing like that. His workers are unmotivated to do better because not everyone responds well to being yelled at and threatened. One day he said to his workers, «I’ll call you for the next time you’re in» and no one who was working that day was ever called again. I’ll never get behind a business like this who can treat an employee this way. I get it you have to run you’re restaurant and you want it to be perfect, but verbally abusing your employees is not a good way to go about it.

This will be the last time i go to Babylon Fish & Clam. They are over priced for one. You don’t get a bread baskets or a salad. You have a choice of a starch or vegetable You would think that you would get both a starch and a vegetable since you don. t get bread or a salad. Over priced for a little shanty shack of a place. Nothing special. There are lots of other places for fresh fish that give you more for your money. Prior to this experience I was there for lunch over a year and a half ago. Skimpy fish sandwich which was overpriced. I should have known not to got back, but I though I would try it one more time. Never again!

Where do I start this place SUCKS I don’t have any clue how anyone can put a good review up on this place must all be related to owner it was past disgusting. How are they still are open is beyond me. Let me begin by saying way over price on crap. We order steamers me and my wife they bring out a plate with maybe 15 on them and no melted butter for $ 18 dollars way too much for that as we waited for our soup and salad we were busy fighting off flies all around us mind you we are inside. then comes the soup New England clam what can i say bland and watery, Now the salad that put me over the edge i kid you not it looked two days it was all dry and wilted the cucumber was so dry we actual laughed. This business should be ashamed to server food you will indeed get someone sick.

We are frequent customers to Babylon fish and clam for take out. I think its going to stay that way. We decided to go their on Friday for an early dinner, around 4:30ish. There were a few diners there, plenty of outside tables. We approached the hostess who asked if we wanted to sit in the sun or shade. It was a little warm so we opted for the shade. She gave us our menus and left. My husband and I decided what we wanted, closed the menus and waited. And waited. And waited. There were 3 waiters standing around by the hostess stand, with the hostess, talking and some fooling around. One start to approach us but went to the table behind me asking is there was anything they needed. Again we waited. The wait staff did look over at us several times, no one came by. A waitress came out from inside and started walking toward us, bypassing us for the table behind us asking if they needed anything else. OK. Finally I put $ 20.00 on the table, showing this is the tip they MIGHT get if one of them takes our order and I set the timer on my cell phone to see how long it would take for one of them to come over. Another waitress catches my eye, along with the money and timer and starts to walk over. OK she’s going to take our order. NOPE. You guessed it, went to the table behind us again. I picked up my money, cell phone and my husband and I walked out. We were waiting there a good 10 minutes and not one of these jerks came over, introduced themselves or took our drink order. I overheard them talking to each other asking themselves how long were we sitting there. One waiter tried calling me back and I said«Look you are not the only seafood restaurant here. We are going over to Pier 44 thank you».(Pier is 2 doors down). I also said«by the way, tell the owner(I used her name) the we(I used our name) said hello». My husband went to school with her and used to do a lot of work for them. All I can say is this is what we can expect with this generation coming into the work force. The place was not crowded, there were more wait staff than customers and they are standing around talking and fooling around and expect to get paid and not do any work.

I love Babylon fish and clam! I grew up local and have been coming here since I was a kid. Going back as an adult it’s a more enjoyable experience. The seafood is great and fresh, I’ve never had a poor dish. The service is good and most servers are attentive, warm and friendly. I love being able to dine outside which you don’t get the opportunity to do very often. The only reason I’m giving 4 instead of 5 stars are the prices. You definitely pay for the fresh food-be willing to drop close to $ 100 for two people. You’ll enjoy it, though!

Everything you want in an outdoor summer fish place. We were headed back to NYC from Robert Moses and this place popped up on Unilocal.Fried clams and broiled seafood were delicious. Not cheap and alas should be on the water, but — a solid four stars.

Went to Babylon Fish & Clam for lunch yesterday. It was a beautiful 85 degree day & wanted to be somewhere close to the water & outside. As we walk up to the hostess stand at the outside entrance, there is a group of 7 wait staff eagerly awaiting customers to the EMPTY restaurant. The hostess then asks if we would like to sit in or out? I tell her we would like to sit in the sunny deck area with our umbrella opened to keep us outta the direct sun. She then tells us that she«really can’t» cause those tables are all 4 seaters & we are only 2. There is absolutely NOONE at any of the tables outside. I thought she was kidding. She says sorry with her head tilted & there is an uncomfortable silence as the 7 wait staff watch on quietly. Awkward! I turn to my wife & laugh, as we turn to leave. The hostess then reluctantly relents, & brings us to the outdoor table of our choice. We sat happily under our umbrella. As we listened to the screaming, gas weed whacker from the boat yard across the street. I have driven by this place since it was a dirty little shack back in the day. It appears pleasant enough as u pull up to it. The menu doesn’t quite fit the place. Trying to be upscale & fancy with some dishes & are a bit pricey for a place that’s about the size of a large shed or garage. There’s one thing that attracts people to this place, & that’s the outdoor seating near the water(not on). I ordered a bowl of gumbo. It was bland & watery. We ordered 2 apps, wings & calamari. Both small & on par with a amusement park menu. Complete with pre packaged blue cheese in plastic cup with lid on it. When asked for hot sauce, the waitress dropped a bottle of Tabasco on the table. I ordered grilled chicken with roasted peppers & mozzarella with pesto on a roll. It was a joke. The bread outweighed the ingredients. My wife had grilled chicken over a salad. It was wilted iceberg lettuce complete with the hard center part that ur not supposed to use. We would normally enjoy a few drinks on such a nice day. But, we were on the verge of walking out with every failure. We drank seltzer water & lemon. Thru the course of our meal, the outdoor area had picked up 4 other tables. All of them couples sitting at the 4 seat tables. Why would they even say anything to us about sitting out there to begin with!!! I guess they were gonna make a stand that day on no couples sitting at the 4 seaters lol. I noticed that no one really ate. The had a drink or 2& an app & left. We had saw this debacle thru & we’re now ready to get our check leave. As we’re waiting for the check… Jokingly, my wife says, «imagine they charge us for all the seltzer water refills?» It was hot & we had 2 refills a piece. Bingo! Lmao!!! This dump charged us for the refills at $ 2.50 ea. I took pictures of our experience cause this place was so Cheezy & lame. It was nice outside that day so I gave them 2 stars for atmosphere. This place would do well with quick easy seafood apps & comfort foods & bar specials. Don’t try to be something u ain’t…classy! Lol go have a beer on the deck and laugh as u watch the kid staff run around in bootlegged versions of Clam Power shirts. Not even the original art work of the famous LI clammers campaign of the 70’s.

Friendly staff, fun and relaxed atmosphere. Great spot for a broiled seafood sandwich and a beer or glass of wine. Casual and easy going unpretentious food. We had the crab salad sandwich and broiled flounder sandwich and the shrimp cocktail.

After having a craving for seafood and a restaurant with outdoor seating while I was doing business nearby, my iPhone’s trusty Unilocal application led me here. Once I arrived, I could see that on the outdoor seating front, this restaurant was definitely going to fit the bill as the outdoor deck looked cozy and inviting, with many tables and chairs with plenty of exposure to the clear skies. While the outdoor seating area was nearly full with many happy customers enjoying various seafood dishes, I was seated immediately by a friendly and courteous hostess. I perused the menu and the fish specials, which consisted of cod, salmon, flounder, tilapia, and shrimp immediately caught my eye. Once my friendly and polite waitress, who was middle-aged and had blonde hair but whose name I do not recall came over, I asked her which of the fish dishes she would recommend, and she said that while she liked all of them, that she would go with the salmon or cod. I decided to go with Blackened Cod, which involved pan-frying it and adding spices to it along with a side of mixed vegetables as well as a Diet Coke to drink. While I was waiting for my entrée, I enjoyed basking in the sun on the outdoor deck as well as listening to the background music, which consisted of standards like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, and Queen. My food came out about fifteen minutes later and I enjoyed, as I found the healthy portion of Cod to be moist, flakey, and pleasantly spicy thanks to the cajun spices that it was dusted with. In addition, the mixed vegetables, which consisted of sweet and savory zucchini, crisp broccoli, and sweet pieces of carrots only added to my meal. In addition to the delicious food, I found the service to be excellent, as my waitress was friendly, attentive, and efficient. When I was finished with my meal, I found that the meal was reasonable for $ 18 in change, as the quality was high and the portion size was ample. Overall, I would definitely return to Babylon Fish & Clam if I were craving seafood and I were in the area.

While the waitstaff was friendly and helpful, the food was lackluster. We’ve tried a lot of clam shacks around long island, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. But, the food here doesn’t really hold up. This is really embodied in the fried seafood. The plain cornmeal breading is overheavy and very under seasoned. While the best clam shacks have an ultra crispy batter, here it comes out bland and bready. The seafood itself is equally bland. The oysters were small and unflavorful. Clams only came as strips — no whole belly option was available anywhere on the menu, which leads one to think they aren’t shucking them fresh, which is a shame this close to the beach.

I’m being generous giving 2 stars: for service not the food! This place should be bookmarked to AVOID! This place is such a rip off. The only thing nice to say about this place is that u have a choice of dining in or outside w a view of the parking lot, inhaling the mixed car fumes & cigarette smokes. They should not even be allowed to serve any food here. The portions looked somewhat like a kids meal… We looked at our plates like What The… Is this a f-in joke? The broiled seafood combo was the worst I’ve ever had. Prices at its peak w what looked liked a kids frozen dinner meal! Makes airplane food or frozen microwaveable dinner gourmet! I’m still trying to figure out how they continue to have guests coming in to dine. Red Lobster serves better seafood than this! The food & drinks are no where worth what they charge & the $ 26 watered down sangria in a carafe(fills 2 wine glasses). Everything is over priced for disgusting food & drinks!

My sister, brother-in-law, boyfriend and I spent the entire day on Robert Moses. All day we were talking about how nice beers and clams on the half shell sounded. We packed up and started searching places in the area and this place showed up. It was exactly what we were looking for. The place looked pretty packed, but we were able to get a table for four outside on the patio. We started with an order of fried calamari, an order of the cold and an order of the hot sea food appetizer platters. It was delicious! For dinner, my sister and I both had the crab cake sandwich with French fries. The crab cakes were perfect! I’m craving them now just writing about it. The guys both had the stuffed flounder and loved it. Our waitress was very sweet and even brought out cake with a candle for my sister’s birthday. There was a live band inside that played happy birthday for her too! Great place! I can’t wait to return after our next beach trip. Friendly staff, yummy food, great spot on the water!

We like to go here over the summer and sit outside and have drinks and appetizers. I usually get the fried flounder or cod and we share clams. The food is okay, not great but not lousy either, however, there is one thing has always bothered me about this place… You would think that a restaurant that is 500 feet from the ocean would have fresher fish. The flounder tastes like it was frozen out of a bag and the fresh fish options they do offer are usually not local fish but things like salmon, mahi mahi and tilapia. Why not offer the striped bass, tuna, fluke and bluefish that is swimming in the water right down the block? The service is always friendly and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. I just don’t understand why more Long Island restaurants don’t offer local fish. Why do so many places order their seafood from Alaska, Canada and Costa Rica when we live on an island that is surrounded with delicious fish?

Their fried clam strips brought this place from 2 star to 3 star for me. Otherwise, the mussels were mediocre — lacking in wine, garlic or lemon flavoring as listed on the menu. The crab cakes were okay, but seemed to be full of more batter than crab. Service was attentive though!
