I find it hard to review Heresy to be honest. I was originally going when the event started up in the backroom of another location that was just so tiny in comparison to so many other clubs I had been to. The owners of the production are AWESOME hosts and thankfully thee community has been able to support them enough that they have been able to grow from where they started. Originally the small location was so crowded and had a few spots to sit, but more times than not you would find you had people practically sitting in your lap. The mix of the crowd is unlike anything else you will see elsewhere, but that comes I think a lot from the wide range of tastes the club tries to cater to. By wide range I mean punk/death rock/EBM/Indistrial/goth/synth/electro/etc etc etc. So basically for example you’ve got the guy who showed up in his best Brandon Lee«The Crow» outfit out for a night of chilling and listening to good tunes and the extreme opposite in the guy who’s dream it is to be Sid Viscous reincarnate in his full on punk gear. Then you add in alcohol and a live punk style band and well elbows and bottles are flying from people who don’t know how to act in public. Ahh yes and there is the dance floor the size of a postage stamp that nobody dances on for the most part. This is likely a combination of the music played and the fact a live band eats up half the night also. Fast forward to today. The promoters have managed to get into a much larger and nicer venue than before. YAY no more strangers on your lap! They lowered the age to get in to 18. Ok I know it is to make more money but damn people in Bako don’t know how to act already and now we’re letting younglings in? There are 3 dance floors 3 different DJ’s playing. They have go go dancers and cages to dance in, and they have the addition of a fetish lunge. I’m not explaining it you figure it out. Then add in that they bring in live music acts to perform still. This hybrid of everything with live music and DJ’s is just odd in a club to me. THATBEINGSAID there is NOTHING to do in Bakersfield so if you are into the alternatives in life this is a place I imagine you will frequent. The promoters are truly awesome people and it shows in how they are trying to please everyone under the sun. It is definitely worth checking out at least once if you happen to be in town on the random night it is going on. The new venue is an EXTREME upgrade to the old and I can only imagine it will get better as the promoters learn more from trial and error.
