Well sushi always makes me happy and to be honest good food makes me happy. This place is simple but have good food. All the roles were very tasty and the appetizer with jalapeño is awesome. The service is good but not great as our server was the only one serving many customers so that resulted our food sitting in the bar in front of our eyes and hungry stomach for a long time. It was a torture for us but made the taste better in mouth lol.

I tried this place tonight and got the Take out special A which is 2 rolls for $ 15.95. I got the Calloway and the Dragon roll. The service was fast and everyone was very friendly. I like everyone saying goodbye as you leave. I had intended to eat part of this and put the rest in the refrigerator for later. I did not however– ate every last bite. I haven’t had a lot of Sushi since I moved to Bakersfield, but really loved this. Everything tasted fresh and good and was even wrapped in a way in an attempt to keep it warm until it got to my house. I will definitely be back.

This place has good sushi and prices they are best in town when it comes to $$ and taste. The 3 roll and appetizer special is an awesome deal no one can beat. What the owner needs to do is hire other servers, at first it was understandable«New Business/Budget, starting off» but now there is no excuse. Sometimes that I’ve gone in for dinner can you believe only 1 server for the whole restaurant at least this has happened in a couple occasions but the food and prices make up for it. I’ve been to almost every sushi place in town and this one let’s me leave full with a bill less than $ 30 with the special, every time I visit other places and my bill would always be 50+ will the amount of food served in the special. I still give them the 5 star rating because Like I said before they’re sushi is good!

prices are good HS why are you understaffed with servers? wen you grab a sushi, it falls apart so the rolls arent tight enoough

The food here is consistently good. The service is standard with one server who can be abrupt and a little rude. Love the jalapeño bombs! Had the Dragon roll, Crazy Monkey and Alaska. They were all great! They also have a great lunch and dinner special.

Meh… I don’t think this place will last. I won’t go back. Small rolls with hardly any fish. Half the drinks on the menu aren’t available since they don’t have a liquor license. If you like sushi, don’t bother with it. It will only make you sad

I’ve come here twice, and the service was amazing. The server was really kind and patient. I’ve gotten teriyaki chicken both times, and I enjoyed it both times. It comes with slices of orange, which is a good palette cleanser from the heavy teriyaki sauce. I recently had the dinner portion of the teriyaki chicken, which was served with salad and soup. The only bad thing I could say was that there could’ve been less ginger dressing on it because I have gotten many bites of over saturated pieces of salad. The miso soup was hot; I burned my tongue on it, but I suppose that was my fault. Other than that, the soup was delicious! I also ordered the Lion King roll, which was a baked salmon roll with masago on top. They were pretty small rolls compared to other sushi places I’ve been to. Unfortunately, I had been very full from the teriyaki chicken to actually try the roll at the time. I tried it later at home, and I found it to be tasty. The masago on top adds a nice, fun texture.

Sushi in the middle of Bakersfield. I know, not exactly what you would expect to hear… or where you would go eat. I was pleasantly surprised that the restaurant was busy and how the food was delicious and fresh. Our group of five ordered 3 dinner specials and we were stuffed. The rolls were really filling and tasted pretty darn great. The service was amazing. The waiter was a really nice young man. It is really nice to see a friendly face in the middle of a longggggg road trip. Give this guy a raise and tip well.

This time we had the Rattlesnake Roll, Dragon Roll, Cajun Salmon Roll and the Baked Mussels. We also had hot tea. The only down side was that the dinner special had gone up by two dollars. Still a bargain. Everything was delicious as always and service was great. They also had new menus which were easy to understand. There was a special mark for all the rolls that were covered under the lunch and dinner specials.

Great lunch and dinner specials. The food here is always fresh and creative. They will try rolls with apple and shrimp or pineapple and ono. Stuff that you would never think to try, but is delicious. Also the staff is friendly and takes the time to get to know their regular customers. This establishment is all around a 5 star place.

Recently a group of friends and I came here for dinner and we all had a pleasant experience. RESERVATIONSAREAVAILABLE :) I also recommend calling for operating hours(we were told that the Unilocal info is extremely outdated by an employee) We all got the dinner special which includes one appetizer OR salad and 3 rolls(fresh/tempura/and baked) for about $ 24. I do recommend looking at their menu online before going because there are so many choices. It took us a little while to decide what we wanted. Also be sure to choose the rolls that are available for the special as not all the rolls on the menu can be chosen. The available rolls are marked with a little hand next to it. These rolls were BIG and definitely satisfied us. We all took some home for later because there was so much food. I did wish the rolls were a little cooler. Especially the fresh rolls. I understand that tempura and baked rolls would be warm but the fresh roll temperature was not quite to my liking. One con was that the kitchen isn’t very organized. We got 2 specials and they completely forgot about one of the appetizers until halfway through our meal. I also ordered an extra tuna roll which I didn’t recieve until after we were given boxes to package our food to go. The kitchen forgot about it. But overall our visit was enjoyable and the flavors were very delicious. It is a bit pricey(as most sushi places are) so be prepared to spend a bit.

Love this place! Awesome sushi and extremely affordable, as we all sushi lovers know, it can get very pricey! But my husband and I can enjoy some beautiful sushi without the breaking the card! Delish and love the atmosphere! Date nights, we always agree this is definitely our favorite place to unwind and relax!

Their 3 rolls, 1 appetizer for $ 22ish is worth it! 3⁄3 rolls were delicious and so was our wakame salad. There is a menu for their deal, so it’s limited. BUT they have a good variety.

This was our second visit at Hi Sushi and it was delicious. Our family loves sushi, but we don’t go out for sushi too often as it gets pretty pricey… Especially because my 15 yr old son’s appetite is equivalent to 3 adults haha. The Sashimi is fresh and it tastes great! They have a good variety of rolls on their buy 3 rolls and 1 appetizer for $ 19.99. This price is actually pretty cheap compared to most good sushi places in Bakersfield. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is quite nice. They also play some good songs overhead haha.

The sushi is decent enough but after some time of sitting inside, it gets uncomfortably warm in the restaurant. As a result, the rolls come out warm. I like my sushi on the cooler side. Tastes fresher that way for sure. They need to turn on or up the A/C! I cannot stand mayo but alas, most of the items like the crab are premixed so it was just something I had to live with on just about everything I ate. My fave was the popcorn lobster roll. I did like the price. 2 people can share a lunch or dinner special. Dinner was 3 rolls, an appy(small portion of garlic .- too much soy but loved the garlic slices) for $ 21.95. Lunch is $ 16.95. I was intrigued by the flavored sake(3 types, apple, lychee and peach) I tried the peach on recommendation. Not bad but you have to like it sweet. Service started out ok with drinks but with hardly anyone there, it took us a long time to order and no one checked in on us to see if we even liked the food. I had high hopes, had read some good things but we will try a different place next time.

This past Sunday morning which was Father’s Day, my kids and wife asked where I wanted to go for dinner. I told them to pick based on what I like so my wife took to Unilocal. There were a few spots to choose from but my wife and kids settled, Hi Sushi! I looked at the many reviews and just couldn’t believe that they had a dinner special for $ 21.95 that was 3 rolls and an appetizer. I quickly assumed the rolls would be «certain» rolls off this special menu. Looking at the pictures from the reviews, they did not look like the basic California Rolls, some seemed to be the Premium ones. We arrived about 8:00pm and were seated immediately. The décor is quite nice & modern. We sat towards the middle and our drink order was taken. I thought to opt for Sake or Sapporo but was a little to anxious for some sushi. My wife, my older son(15yrs old) and I all ordered the Dinner specials each. Might as well, as we took home what we couldn’t eat. My younger son(10yrs old) whose palette is not as well developed as my older son wanted Chicken Teriyaki with steamed rice. This is what we ordered, 2 Lobster Rolls, 2 Lion King Rolls, Monster Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Calloway Roll, Dragon Roll and the last one I can’t recall… For appetizers we ordered two orders of Baked Green Mussels and an order of the Dragon Ball, which is deep fried shrimp with crab in a mayo sauce. All of the rolls we fresh, delicious but most of all, High Quality ingredients. I’ve been to other spots and one roll is priced at two-thirds of this dinner special. I can’t believe the price for the product. Lastly I absolutely HAD to order sashimi, which I love. I ordered the Chef’s Choice 10pc ordered and I was not disappointed at all. The sashimi consisted of tuna, yellowtail and even OCTOPUS. The service was excellent but I know it wasn’t extremely busy so I cannot judge it too well. However, the food was near impeccable. We will be returning here soon to try other rolls and see if the quality of both the food and service is consistent enough to become a regular.

I’ve been here a few times before and can’t believe I’m barely writing a review. Came with a friend for lunch once they opened at 11am. It obviously wasn’t busy and we were the first customers but as time went by it did get busier. We both ordered the lunch roll specials: 1 appetizer or salad and 2 rolls for $ 16.95 Appetizers ordered: **Ahi Tuna Tostada — I’m always wary about ordering raw since we aren’t THAT close to the ocean but the tuna tasted fresh and great. It was definitely different eating it with essentially a tortilla chip, but it was great. **Dragonball — Not my favorite thing. It’s very simple, deep fried shrimp with crab, eel sauce, and mayo. Average and probably won’t order it again. Rolls ordered: **Lion Roll — Tasted good. Salmon wasn’t over baked but there seemed to be an excess of mayo. Other than that, it was delicious. **Crunch Scallop — I enjoyed the deep fried scallops on the side but they were kinda small. The roll was shaped at a decent size and wasn’t difficult to eat. **Monster — I personally wasn’t a fan but my friend seemed to enjoy it. It tasted a little bland for me. **Spicy Tuna — I love spicy tuna rolls and they are always good(at least to me) Service was average. There was only one girl working all the tables so I understand why it lacked a bit. If anything, come for the roll special. You can’t be that price and the amount of food that comes with it.

Ok now that we have more than 25 check-ins and we’ve been traveling in the last three months it’s safe to say we eat here probably twice a week when we are in town. Yes this place is this good!!! First and utmost they have fresh fish, great service and fabulous menu. Just recently they started a special: Lunch appetizer and 2 rolls $ 15.95, Dinner appetizer 3 rolls $ 19.95 what a deal and so much food to eat. My favorite rolls are the 911 and the crazy monkey omg they are amazing. Chris, Sam and all sushi chefs do a really good job. Always fresh, rolls are tight and tasty. I really think this place has the best in town. IMHO It is a small place but we always go early and never have a problem getting a seat. We did go on a Friday night and it was a little crowded, but that just made me feel that I was not alone in my opinion of their food. If you are looking for white cloth napkin type restaurant style keep driving. It’s not McDonalds low budget but they are a mid level restaurant and have done some upgrades in decorations recently. But hey their prices are decent for the sushi so get off your soap boxes people. Love their cold flavored saki, so good!!!

My first time and I’m impressed! My bf and I came without any expectations since we were just hungry and in the mood for some sushi. We came around 7 on a Friday night and there wasn’t a wait. The hostess greeted and seated us promptly, then explained the specials on the menu for the day. It sounded good but we weren’t in the mood for lobster. We ordered the sushi combo(10pc combo of salmon, yellowtail, albacore, and tuna). The pieces came out a little thick, which made it kind of chewy. I know some people really dislike the thickness of sashimi, but it wasn’t bad. I asked for extra ginger and they gave me extra extra extra ginger. Thanks for the generosity. I hate asking for multiple times. The fire cracker roll was solid good. Flavorful, but it could be a little spicier. The picture on the menu has a pepper next to it, but it wasn’t spicy at all. The most shocking order of the night was the Bulgogi! I know, we ordered a Korean dish at a sushi place, but it was surprisingly delicious. The meat was tender, mildly sweet, and very moist. Loved it! We were given free icecream at the end of our meal. If you want something comfortable, casual, and laid-back with really decent sushi, check out this place.
