We went here for lunch and was hopeful that the food would be good. First they serve fried wantons for the 3 of us.(Note: they charge for seconds of the fried wantons). We ordered the vegetarian plate and fried rice. As an Asian person who loves rice of any kind, I was very offended of how crappy they are. Vegetarian plate was not impressive, at all! NEVER coming back to this place, until they change it 90 degrees. I’d rather go to panda express, their food tastes much better, cheap and for sure clean.

Barely passable food and no attention to cleanliness gets this place one star. The Peking Palace is tucked into the corner of a strip mall on the northwest corner of Auburn and Fairfax in east Bakersfield. Before I go on, I will say that the service was fantastic. Seated and waited on very quickly. I have to say that there was only one other table filled so we got a lot of attention. Now the important stuff. The place was poorly maintained. The surface of the table was rough and uncared for. As you can see from the photos, the condiment dispensers were filthy and looked like they were never cleaned. It toon a while rose because the lighting was dim and we didn’t need to touch them until the food came. The food was edible. It was not tasty or good. As an Asian foodie, I know it doesn’t take much extra effort to make crazy good Chinese food. It really seemed like this place was more interested in profit than quality. There was NOEFFORT to make great food. They used old rice, put soy sauce in it, then fried it in a wok, and passed it off as fried rice. No egg or pieces of green onion or pork or chicken. Just soy sauce in old dry rice. They have the makings of a good restaurant if they orient themselves to customers and quality instead of putting out cheap lousy food and charging like a good Chinese restaurant would. This ace needs too much cleaning and work. I recommend avoiding it.

Worst service and food ever! First the waitress gives us the wrong order and when I try to get it corrected she kept trying to get me to keep the wrong plate! Then when I get the bill she still charged me for it! When I tried to get it corrected she started arguing with me and getting loud. I asked if she was the owner she said no I asked for a manager she said there was no manager and she just works there. I would rather drive 2 hours to Los Angeles for better food and service! 100.00 to be treated like crap!

Spent last 3 weeks in USA, this is my best Chinese meal. The white rice is good. For traveling Chinese it is a good meal for us.

I love this place! I always feel a little guilty for getting something simple like a combo because the inside is pretty nice. But even their simplest dishes use the best ingredients. I’ve never much trust Chinese food chicken before, but I don’t have to worry about it here :) I had the Katsu Chicken lunch special. The coating was crunchy and the chicken was well cooked and juicy. The special also came with its own soup and appetizers. $ 7.99! They also had 6.99 specials.

I am addicted to the Cashew Nut Chicken Combo! The food here tastes great, the service is amazing, and can be very quick if you need it. If you are looking for Chinese on the East side I give it my highest recommendation!

Worst meal in YEARS! Have lived in the area for a long time, it had been many years since my last visit. Let’s start with cleanliness. …non existent! Food on the wall, the floors the seats! Yuk! Used the restroom, the wall around the switch plate hadn’t seen a cleaning in months I’m sure. The food… the egg rolls seemed frozen, the«cheese» won tons were lacking the cheese. The meals… sesame beef was sour and inedible, sweet and sour chicken tasted like greasy fish, we literally had 2 bites each, paid and left! BEWARE! DON’T WASTEYOURTIMEORMONEY!

My parents took me here so much growing up so this place has deep sentimental value to me. The Mongolian tofu is TODIEFOR! as well as the beef skewers. Do yourself a favor and get the beef skewers. The staff has always been so incredibly nice. love this place so much. highly recommended.

Been coming to this restaurant since I was a student at Highland High School many moons ago and I can say the food has not drastically changed. Change is good and is expected when the business is sold or under new management, luckily the quality of the food didn’t suffer. Highly recommend the Kung Pao shrimp, orange chicken and the different array of soups. Excellent value, good food and friendly staff.

We went for a work lunch. They were polite, efficient and prompt. Food was excellent and fresh. Hot tea was well brewed as well. They offered to split the check, which was unnecessary but appreciated. A good deal for lunch.

We usually order take away from Peking Palace. The food is fresh and hit at every order. The broccoli beef is not soggy like some Chinese restaurants. The Kung pao is good and spicy. We also enjoy the pot stickers, wontons and chow mein deluxe. Peking Palace is a solid choice for fresh and tasty Chinese food in east Bakersfield.

The service is slow and the language barrier is apparent, however the food is very fresh. Allow ample time for both dine-in and take out. Generous portions and a little pricey, but worthwhile.

Forgot how good this place is. Tucked away in the corner of small shopping center behind Circle K. Been there for years. Called in an order for hot/sour soup, shrimp lo-mein, hunan fish, and sesame chicken. All where great. They have a great lunch special Mon-Saturday which includes one entre, soup, appetizer, and rice for like $ 6.75.

Service is almost as important to me as the food. With that said, service was pretty bad. food was fair. First off, we weren’t offered a beverage. although we were given water and hot tea. Once I did ask, I felt as if I was a bother as we shouted at one another across the room. I asked for a beer, which she claimed they did not have. strange because they did have a lighted sign hanging on the front window«Coors»…and the previous visit we had a beer and a margarita. Our 2 waitresses were busy working on making«something» that something was a food item… yes they were making«something» in the dining area. In between them busily making«something» they vacuumed the floors. so very rude and tacky… we were in shock! They also answered the phone… never once did we see them walk away to wash their hands. We were not a priority to them, matter of fact we were straight out ignored. The food was just OK. I ordered Mongolian beef and orange chicken… my orange chicken was good and fresh… the Mongolian beef was cold and not fresh. My rice was not fresh nor was it good. My husband seemed to enjoy his food much more then myself. He had the Kung Pao Beef and Orange Chicken. We will not return, sadly, as we like to contribute to small local eateries/businesses. Especially those that are in our neighborhood.

Peking Palace is one of the east side’s best kept secrets. The food and service are so amazing that every time I come I’m expecting a packed house, yet it is always almost empty. It truly is mind boggling. The food is SO much fresher, higher quality and better tasting than almost any other Chinese food place in town yet no one goes here. What’s up with that? Other places that are not even half as good and are more expensive are packed on most nights, yet at Peking you can walk in and immediately get a table any day any time. Ok enough of that, now on to the highlights. The orange chicken is the best I’ve ever had. Ever. The egg rolls are light and crisp and delicious. Everything is cooked fresh when you order it and you can tell by the taste. If it says it’s chicken then it actually is real white meat chicken. If it says beef it really is lean beef. None if that suspect woof woof meow meow mystery meat plenty of Asian places serve. The service is always outstanding. Rarely does my glass get below half ful before it is refilled and the wait staff are polite and always smiling. This has become increasingly rare when you eat out these days. Oh and the lunch specials are outstanding. You get your entrée, fried rice, an egg roll, a wanton, a bowl of egg flour soup, and hot tea for $ 7. Good luck getting a deal that good elsewhere.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurant in Bako, too bad its so far away(it’s all the way in the east side)! But when I have a craving for their food, there’s no stopping me from going there. I enjoy their dishes very much. Like the salty vinegar fish dish and the lo mein. The restaurant itself it spacious with nice décor.

I was herded here for a work lunch and I didn’t pick this place. When I heard that we were going to «Peking Palace», I was really hoping that the name was a generic pick by the owners and they were going to serve sub-par faux Chinese food. Normally, I wouldn’t wish for this but, I’ve eaten in Peking(it’s now called Beijing) and I hoped not to be subjected to that cuisine, ever again. When we walk in, I was pleasantly surprised by the décor. Gaudy gold tiles and luck themes everywhere — it transported me to the 1980s in Chinatown. The lunch specials were about $ 6 and consisted of the usual fare — sweet and sour, chow mein, broccoli, and veggie dishes with your choice of chicken, pork, or beef. PHEW — no stinky Beijing tofu here! I ordered the shrimp lo mein lunch special. It came with egg flower soup, fried rice, a small egg roll, and fried wonton skin. The egg flower soup wasn’t bad although it was a little bland. At least it wasn’t dyed orange like another Chinese place on the east side. The egg roll was veggie filled and bland and the fried wonton had cream cheese inside it. The fried rice was just that — no egg, veggies, or bits of BBQ pork. It was plain old rice that was stir fried. The only thing that saved this place was the lo mein. It was actually really good! It had the perfect mix of soy sauce and oil. The shrimp and onions were cooked to the right consistency. I ended up eating the whole portion. Will I be back here? Grudgingly, yes. I liked the lo mein and their prices were reasonable. I’ll be wiser the second time around and eat only the entrée and soup. The rest of the sides can be tossed right away.

Food is great, waitress service may not be the best, but friendly. The decoration is authentic Taiwanese style and the owners actually imported all the paintings and ceiling pieces from Taiwan. The fish tank by the front door with lucky 9 goldfishes is a nice touch too. There’s always plenty of parking on that side of Bakersfield. The food is always hot and delicious. Some of my favorite dishes include — Friend chicken wings(appetizer) — Pork fried rice — Paper wrap chicken(my sister-in-law loves this!) — General Tao chicken — Shrimp with hot spicy paste
