Pops Burger

Thanks to other reviews I decided to come here! I ordered the Crispy Chicken Sandwich. Best I ever had! Fries are great too! My husband ordered the Double Cheese Burger, it was excellent! Plus friendly staff. We will be coming back. This place is a gem!

I’ve been eating at this little «Mom & Pop» burger joint for 45 years. The food is EXACTLY what you expect out of a little place like this. Lots of food, great prices, and the best milk shakes around! I love the onion rings and I always ask for my fries «crispy».
Now I gotta run, ’cause I just made myself hungry for a Double Texas w/​cheese LOL

Kind of ghetto but will do for our Sunday craving they need to clean the outside up so it don’t look like a shack

We were actually heading back to San Diego and stopped here on a whim. Our original plan was was to grab some Sonic Drive thru, before spending the next 3.5 hr on the road. We ordered a #10 w/​cheese (burger, fries & drink for $ 4.29), a small chocolate shake, curly fries, and a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches. Our fries were huge, could’ve been happy with just one order to fill 2 people, but weren’t hot. The fried burrito ($ 1.49) was pretty tasty. Burger was delish! Shake was thick and was big enough for 2 of us to share, especially with all the food we ordered. Definitely would come back again the next time we’re in Bakersfield.

I have only three things to say bout this place:
1) I’m full as hell
2) That was good
And
3) I’ll be back

I’ve been to the Pops on Niles many times so I decided to see how the one on Taft Hwy compares now that I live in the Southwest. I called in the order after reading about long drive thru wait times and hearing the same from friends who said they spent 20 mins in the drive thru. So I thought, heck no, I’m calling it in. I did call it in and they said 5 minutes so I headed right over. It was hard to understand the man on the phone, but I wasn’t sure if he got my order right, even though I asked more than once for him to repeat it. I pulled up to the speaker in the drive thru and another gentleman repeated my order but half was missing. Glad I asked. They still got my order out in about 5 – 8 mins. Everything was there, and the drive thru guy was very friendly.
I looooove pastrami, so I decided to try it. It was just ok. The bread and the mustard had more flavor than the actual pastrami though. And with pastrami, it is supposed to be full of flavor but these slices were pretty thin and lacked the usual flavor I’m used to with Golden Ox, or even my dad’s homemade recipe. So really, I’d probably rather drive to the golden Ox on white lane next time I want a pastrami. As far as the other food, the hamburgers were ok, and the corn dogs just your typical corn dogs. Fries were pretty good though! We love our crinkle fries and we did enjoy those.
Overall, the visit was acceptable. There aren’t as many old fashioned burger joints in the South west as there are on the east side, so considering we don’t want to drive far, we might go back when we’re craving fries and milkshakes.

This place is a great place to eat. Excellent food, great price, and great service! The family comes here all the time.

All i can say is WOW. Very tasty and juicy burgers. I haven’t had a good burger like this in a while. I had the avocado TX burger. And an oreo milk shake.
You have to try it. And the service is awesome too…

The steak fries are amazing, friendly staff and great food. I drive out of my way just to come out here for the pops burger. Always fresh and always delicious!

We wanted to try something new so we came to this hole in the wall drive-​in and the prices are very affordable! There were many reviews about the unicorn but I guess it’s under new management now and the unicorn isn’t there anymore (otherwise it would’ve been 5 stars lol). It took only 10min to cook up all the food we ordered. Great tastes and quality! We had the Texas burger, French burger, curly fries, and jalapeño poppers, along with a small pineapple strawberry milkshake. Tip: the small milkshake, I couldn’t even finish myself! This became our new fave burger joint

New ownership and a new name, Pops Drivein. Still great food. Plus improved service when calling in your order. It’s actually ready when you arrive instead of waiting 5 – 10 min.

I’ve been going to this place since my mom was pregnant with me. They are super friendly and their food is AMAZING! I love getting the tacos with EXTRA sauce.

Fyi, I’m not a pro I’m just a normal guy who loves to eat. I started Unilocaling so I could help people find delicious places to eat.
So, I live about a mile from this place and have driven by it almost everyday. I never thought anything about it until my little brother told me it’s got great burgers and shakes. I was once in a mood for a shake and decided to stop and get a chocolate, peanut butter, and banana shake. It was bomb! A little thick but still amazing. The ONLY problem I had with the shake was that I got too much. I got the xxl shake and it was too much sweetness for one sitting. However, I recently tried a small shake and it was perfect.
If you decide to stop here get a Texas Cheeseburger. You’d expect that to be some kind of BBQ burger, but it actually means its just a bigger burger. It really isn’t that big though lol. So, a guy my size would probably be satisfied with a double and adding bacon. The first bite I had of this burger was pure heaven. It is what you expect from a drive in spot. Greasy, cheesy, cooked perfectly, shredded lettuce, tomato, and that thousand island dressing. This gave John’s Burgers (my favorite burger spot) a run for it’s money! The fries are crispy, but not too crispy. They came out hot and delicious.
The atmosphere is quite… Hmm how do I say this… Dull. There are a few cheap booths inside, a painting of a unicorn, and other cheap decorations. However, I didn’t come here for the view, I came for the delicious food and this place delivered. Plus, the owner of the restaurant is super nice! He is the atmosphere. He makes you feel welcome and you can tell he’s proud of the food he produces. Since it’s only him, the food takes a while to come out.
Oh yeah, there are a few flies around and hardly any AC, but whatevs. Just take the food to go.
Well the cheese sticks are tooooo greasy. Still a 4 star place!

They have a great variety of options to choose from. We’ve always been satisfied. It’s sometimes annoying you don’t know all their options at the order screen. When you get to the window, there are many other signs of stuff you can’t see when you’re at the speaker.

I have only ever had the pastrami combo, which is always exceptional. The service is great and the people are very friendly. They have a fly problem in their dining room, but no one hardly eats inside.

Food that you’d expect from a drive in: greasy. Good crinkle cut fries. There is a problem with flies. As of this review, the place has an A from the health dept. I gave them an extra star for the unicorn mural which I just uploaded to this review.
