We got takeout there so I did not see the place. That said, both potato and potato-cheese pierogi were buttery and browned, topped with bacon and onions, and perfectly delicious. The mushroom soup was creamy with lots of chunks of mushroom and carrots as well as perfectly cooked noodles. A great«comfort food» meal!

The golabkis and pierogis were absolutely phenomenal, almost as good as my Mom’s. And I know about Polish food, since I am Polish. It’s a must go place if you happen to be in Fells Point. Plus great service. We will definitely be back for more delicious Polish food.

My neighbors are from Poland and say there’s no reason to make pierogis from scratch, because Sophia’s is as good and authentic as it gets. The pierogis were served lightly crisped in butter, nice golden brown but fluffy on the inside. They serve them with caramelized onions and thick-cut bacon on top. The stuffed cabbage was super light yet savory, a simple rice and ground beef filing with a creamy tomato sauce on top. Couldn’t even see or taste the cabbage it was so thin. Not sure who the other reviewer met who complained about service, the ladies were so nice to us.

No, no and no !!! It was a lunch time so we ordered pierogies and drinks. After 10 minutes of waiting we got our food and we got our«surprise». We found a long, dark hair in our food! That was disgusting. Customer service needs improvement too. All the ladies are not happy to help you. They prefer talking to each other. We thought about buying some polish sausages but we changed our mind. Their kielbasa/sausage is very poor quality –white mold covers it. I can’t believe that owner doesn’t see it. They don’t care about cleaning fridge from inside as well — which can be very bad for your health. I won’t be back and I don’t recommend this place.

A U T H E N T I C Very good stuff, and cheap lunch spot in the market. I don’t think I can ever go back to regular grocery store deli after this. Service has been good both times I’ve gone. Support a local business!

Today was our second visit to Sophia’s Place in Fell’s Point. The cabbage rolls at both visits were hot, freshly made, and delicious. On our first visit, we bought one packet of pierogies. They were so good, we bought six packages this time. We cook them traditionally with butter and onion and they are terrific. Try the sauerkraut and mushroom pierogies — they are fantastic. We also picked up a few canned items for friends and family. We don’t get to Baltimore that often but Sophia’s Place is now a regular stop.

Don’t expect great customer service here. Maybe I was supposed to feel like I was in Eastern Europe? We stood at the counter for at least 5 minutes before we were even acknowledged. All the ladies were busy chatting in the kitchen area. One of the older ladies came over with a scowl on her face like we were wasting her time and asked us what we needed. We tried ordering pierogies to go, but we didn’t see the case of frozen foods before we asked so that was another thing that she seemed annoyed in showing us. Finally we checked out with another girl who was slightly more friendly, but I swear the original woman was glaring at us on the way out. Maybe I am over-reading the situation, but I guess i’ll just have to wait until the pierogie sale at the church to get my fix or go to Ze Mean Bean before I come back to this place. Positive Note — The pierogies were good, but half of them fell apart when we boiled them. Not worth the money.

This is the best place in Baltimore for polish food, especially if you are looking for the homestyle version. This place vaguely resembles a polish Milk Bar, a cafeteria-type restaurant from the communist days. The menu is simple with classics like pierogis served with bacon/fried onion, stuffed cabbage, wild mushroom soup, etc. I have not tried their sandwiches and paninis which are more american in style but I can recommend getting a bowl of soup and a mixed plate of pierogis, fried with bacon and onion. Perfect for lunch on a cold and windy day in October.

(08/19/2013) Broadway Market has not much by way of Baltimore’s public markets, but they do have Sophia’s, a nice little place to get lunch whether you want a panini, or some traditional Polish food and all for a great price.
Had the«Polonaise»($ 5.99), 1 piece Gołąbki, 4 pierogi(chose the Potato and Cheese and the Sauerkraut and Mushroom sauteed in butter with onion and bacon). Pierogis were tender and chewy with savory, mild fillings(and you can buy them frozen to take home). Cabbage Roll was stuffed with traditional rice and beef with a lightly spiced tomato broth, falling apart tender, reminds me of how my mom made them. Mushroom soup was chock full of noodles in a lightly creamy mushroom broth. Paninis seemed sufficient, but really, why go to a Polish café to get a sandwich? A box of chrusciki(deep-fried bow tie cookies) covered in powdered sugar were light and not too sweet.
Looks like the place is run by the owner and one helper and there’s only one panini press, so don’t go ordering all those sandwiches all at once. They also work the deli and bakery counter, so if there are those customers as well, you’re pretty much at the back of the line. Interesting selection of imported goods(mostly in Polish and with no translated labels), saw bread flour, extracts, spices. There’s other markets with more local«character», but Sophia’s is worth a stop if you’re in the area and looking for a pierogi fix.

Being that Christmas is right around the corner, this Polish fellow was in search of his families staples for the holidays: Pierogies, haluski and some kilbasa or smoked sausage. I have never been to Sophia’s before so I figured I would give it a shot. Sophia’s is located across from Vicki’s in the newly revamped Broadway Market off of Aliceanna. We arrived early because I figured with Baltimore having a large Polish population, this place would probably sell out quick. Sophia’s has a huge counter which contains all kinds of Polish treats. They serve hot food such as sandwiches and panini’s as well as premade Polish food like pierogies and galobki. To the back left of the counter were where the pierogies were housed because that is why I came. They had a lot of different flavors or fillings such as potato, potato and sauerkraut, meat, cheese, cabbage and others. I was surprised to see that they also had the fruit fillings as well; blueberry, raspberry and prune. But then, there on the counter, I saw them. These fried little morsels that I have not seen in forever. I swear there was light shining down from the sky on them! They are elusive in Baltimore and hard to get a hold of because they sell out quickly anywhere you go. But this time, I have located them in all of their GLORY! Pączki! Oh these glorious«doughnut-esque» delights are so delicious. They were calling my name. I could not resist, so I purchased two of them all for myself; 2 raspberry filled, fried doughy glazed balls of awesomeness. These were made locally at the Polish Treasures shop off of South Chester Street. The pierogies were reasonably priced by the dozen and they had a very large selection. The ladies behind the counter were super nice and helpful and gladly answered any questions that I had. More importantly, they also had fresh paczki. If you get a chance, get up early on a Saturday and go try one, they have a few different kinds, but be warned, they will sell out of these very quickly!
