Wife and I absolutely love this place. Feels like a little street Café in Playa del Carmen, Mexico from twenty years ago. Easily my favorite restaurant here in Bastrop. We’ve tried most of the items on the menu at this point and I would gladly order any one of them again. Love the super fresh Yucatan style CEVICHE, can’t miss with the QUESOCOMPUESTO(cast iron skillet full of melted cheeses with«mix your own» sides of chorizo, guacamole and chopped jalapeños) or ROTAPESCADO. It’s a beer battered fish taco with that awesome chipolte aioli(mayo) in a little mix of slaw and mango… It’s incredible. I really could just go on and on about everything I’ve tried here. Somewhat small but very well thought out menu where everything is great. Nice selection of quality tequilas and margaritas made with said tequilas. Seriously, I love this place.

Happy Hour? Not on the weekend! Me and my wife encountered this problem today. We were looking for a good place to eat and upon reading the chalk/billboard on the sidewalk that said happy hour 2 – 7 I said lets go! Upon sitting down we realized that the waitress/bartender/cashier was extremely over worked. When she came over to take our drink order she stated that there was no happy hour? She said there is no happy hour on the weekends-it’s Sunday, you mean no one else brought it to your attention? Any at that point my wife ordered a drink and I took water. 3 street tacos, qauc, and two other tacos equaled my last 40 dollars I will spend there.

Ate here for the first time yesterday and was very impressed with my cocktail and food. I had the watermelon margarita that was perfectly mixed with fresh watermelon & lime. My lunch special of one carne asada taco w/rice & beans was delicious and freshly made. The service was also excellent, I spoke at length with the two brothers who are the owners and they could not have been more pleasant and appreciative of their success. The menu is not your typical tex-mex fare, I really had a hard time deciding what to order! I highly recommend this place and cannot wait to return to try other cocktails and food.

Not quite sure what was going on at Viejo last night… I would just like to give a little feedback… I feel terrible for our waitress I think she had 18 tables going at once… for anyone who has never waited tables 6 is the norm and kinda tough especially with lots of people drinking… we wondered in off the street because they had a patio with misters… which was weird because a few minutes after we got there they were no longer on… took awhile to get some drinks luckily we squeezed in an order for some queso… we were brought the wrong one queso… they have two… didn’t really matter because we were starving we could have never gotten our waitress and we ate it all… it was really good so that was fine… unfortunately we didn’t order our tacos when we ordered our queso… we ordered after we were finished with it… i think it took about 30 minutes to get a couple of tacos. My boyfriends chicken tacos were delicious… I had the beef street tacos and I was disappointed… but I know if I had ordered any of the actual single tacos they would have been great. I will definitely give it another shot and go back… however if last night wasn’t a fluke and it always take an hour and a half to get a quick dinner that will probably be it. The atmosphere was great the drinks looked great the we had a great waitress but she can’t be in 20 places once. Hopefully it was special circumstances. I really want to frequent this place.

Where to begin??? The cocktails are amazing! Our group tried 7 different drinks and each was unique and perfectly executed. I travel all over the country trying craft cocktails and I would be hard pressed to find a place where each drink was loved by everyone at the table. The smoked cashew chipotle sauce was super yummy! The vegetarian taco was delicious and not boring, which is challenging. All good. So impressed! And in this small town of Bastrop? What a gem!

It’s been a couple of months since we have visited Viejo’s and the service was awful last fall when we visited, but I waited tables for years and I know everyone can have a bad day, besides, we wanted to treat our grown children to a warm, inviting outdoor venue with great food, drinks, and entertainment, so we decided to give it another shot because we’re big believers in supporting local businesses. The service we received was terrible. Our waiter NEVER smiled, and behaved as if we were an inconvenience to him all night. Most of the members of my family have worked in the food service industry at one time or another, so we are very friendly and respectful when we go out to eat. We were all appalled at how rude he was to us the entire evening! The music was HORRIBLE&LOUD. When we asked very politely that it be turned down a bit, after 2 tables left because of the loud, awful music, our waiter shook his head«no,» then he hesitated, cocked his head and replied, «I don’t know, I’ll see what I can do» and he did nothing. We were at the table furthest from the band. We were also one of only 3 tables total. Our food took over 30 minutes to come out and our corn tortillas were hard on one side while soaked through on the other, so that we couldn’t pick them up to eat them without the whole thing falling apart. Our margaritas were wonderful. Our appetizer was yummy and came out quite quickly. The waiter that was rude the entire time we were there was introduced to us a couple of months ago as one of the owners. I just kept thinking, «He must want to go out of business!» I love the atmosphere at Viejo’s, but our service has been poor all three times we’ve gone. I think it’s such a wonderful concept and it has great potential. The drinks are wonderful, but the food has ranged from great to below average. I love supporting local, but not when we are treated so horribly.

The food is the only thing that gets credit. The wait staff is horrible, the music is way too loud for the small setting, and the wait staff sucks. Even the hostesses are bad. Yes they get you to your seat, but you also have to listen to them tell everyone under 25 about how drunk they got the night before. The hostess that refilled out drinks(not the waiter cause they forget) reeked of cigarettes. Like she sat in a car with the windows up and smoked a pack, she stank. I hate rating this low because the food is flawless. Food gets 5 stars and the staff gets ½ of one. I suggest they allow customers to bring their own drinks, napkins, and condiments. That way you won’t need a waiter.

Heading thru Bastrop to CStat and found this place – lucky me. Great drinks, food, atmosphere, and service. Drinks had unique signature. Tacos-fish and pork were marvelous-tasty and fresh. Beans, yes beans were fabulous. Now trips to CStat will include a long stop at Viejo’s. Your Grandpa is proud(read story on menu when u have the pleasure of dining in courtyard of Viejo’s)

I just don’t see how this place gets any good ratings. Big disappointment after seeing their big write up. Food was subpar as well as service. Prices too high for food served.

I don’t understand how this place has such a high rating. It’s a neat concept for Bastrop as they have nothing else like it which is probably why. The décor/design is on the money, but the food is bland and boring. They menu looks great, it’s appealing, but the food is not up to par. No seasoning, no herbs, no punch, nothing that grabbed me and made me want to come back. They have a great patio and ok for drinks, but I’d rather just drive to Austin to waste my money and time here. They need to do some more culinary R&D if they want to last.

This place is a «can’t miss» in Bastrop! Outdoor dining is the way to go here – misters and huge, bright umbrellas make it pleasant even on the hottest Texas afternoon, and downright delightful after sunset! The eclectic vibe of this place is best captured by the limited, but well thought out menu. Each entrée offers a unique twist on an authentic Coastal Mexican mainstay – fresh, and guaranteed to please! My faves right now are the Carnitas, followed closely by the Tinga de Pollo… The bar service is great, and you can’t leave without trying their signature«Basil Antigua» margarita! Hand-infused deliciousness that will be your new favorite indulgence! See ya there!
