Walked in pretty early and there was not a lot of people mostly the employees. It has a cool theme to it. Not a whole lot of surfer bar/restaurants in the BR area. It has a very upbeat s positive vibe going. I like the fact that they had an outside patio area. I like the city feel of watching people go by. The food wasn’t bad. Kind of average, but we enjoyed it.

Great place to drink but not to eat. Cool atmosphere but slow service.

Don’t have much to say because we were told to seat ourselves by a «hostess» whom we thought was a customer until we saw here a few minutes later seating someone else. Then we waited and waited and waited for someone to come to our table. Oh, they went to the table next to us, but that was as close as it got. The 3 waitresses seemed more interested in the musical event that was going on at the time. After 15 minutes, we decided to leave. Will not go back nor recommend this place to any one.

Tacos were excellent. I had the PowPow Shrimp and coworker had the shrimp tacos. Good food and fun atmosphere.

I spilled salsa on my tie AND my pants off of the same chip, wiped it up with a napkin, and to my great delight they use no-stain salsa here. And it tastes even better than the regular stainy kind.

This place is worse than I originally thought. After what they put us through, they had the nerve to charge us for the food we never received. We have a receipt for 1 beer, but our credit card had an additional $ 23.55 charged to it, which must have been for the food. Needless to say, a dispute has already been filed. What a lousy way to do business.

While downtown we found the amount of casual restaurants was limited so we chose to eat here. Many Mexican selections, which I was tired of at this point. I went with a chicken sandwich, which was a little dry. I ordered sweet potato fries after inquiring about a homemade ranch dressing. The waitress recommended the chip ranch which was good. The patio area was nice. The best part was the 90’s music blaring.

Stopped in for an early drink and bite on a nice Saturday late afternoon downtown. Having been to the one in New Orleans and not here I wanted to give them a try. Not terribly crowded as we watched LSU lose again on TV from the bar. Our tender was friendly and busy it seems. A bit scattered but overall a good attitude and service level. We were given the happy hour lineup and decided against the house Marg based on a taste. Wife opted for the $ 8HH frozen painkiller. Huge. I asked about one on the rocks and no can dosville here baby doll. I got a $ 9 Sauza Rita and it was good. Orders of fish tacos and Cobb with steak were out in. Came out pretty timely and wife enjoyed hers and took home one. I got the Cobb… with chicken and tasted the chicken and just kept it. Pretty nice salad to me. Honey Lime vinegar dressing was good. TV reception was awful and could not really use cell phone here either. Location? Don’t know. Outdoor tables were pretty packed when we were leaving but you have to contend with the extremely loud(and I love loud in its place) house music from the Irish dive bar all the way across the street. They have a huge speaker in the doorway and this noise actually kept us from going in. Will return. To get a fourth star we need to try it more and revise where needed. For now good.

Laid back atmosphere with good food. Burgers and wraps are their most popular along with fish tacos. If you are there for brunch you cannot pass up the breakfast tacos– soft tortilla filled with fajita steak, scrambled eggs, melted cheese, and tomatoes. The breakfast tacos come with chips and salsa. The salsa is spicy.

Food-wise, this is a hot or miss place as it pertains to food — -I work downtown and most of my food experiences have been during the lunch hour — most recently the first week of January, 2016. Food-wise It seems as if Lucy’s continue to seek an identity for food as its menu seems to change every few months — that’s not to say that it’s favorites have been removed but with a menu which is in flux, it is hard to find what you liked the last time. The menu Wednesday had a page devoted to lunch offerings but interestingly, enough I did not see any burger offerings on the lunch menu — it was located elsewhere with the non-lunch offerings. Also, most of the lunch items, especially the combo items, come with a choice of a side item, however in my review of the menu I did not see any side item choices(which turned out to be soups, fries, sweet potato fries and perhaps more). This does not really impact the quality of the food, however it might impact one’s dining experience. As for the food, I do not have a problem with the food — I think the food has good flavor and tastes great. This week I ordered the hamburger steak from the lunch menu which comes with a side. I ordered the bean soup and it was average but filling. The hamburger steak came out on a hot plate so it remained warm – no hot — until the last bite. Hamburger steak was cooked with cheese and mushrooms. My dining companions ordered burgers and went away happy — which is the same as my past experience with hamburger orders here. Lucy’s is also a bar with a decent selection of beer. The times I have gotten adult beverages, well the beer was always fine. The strength of the mixed beverages were inconsistent. Lucy’s has specialty drinks and you should be able to find one you like.

This is a nice place to have lunch and a drink downtown. There fish tacos are excellent! I also enjoyed their fried ice cream. You can also sit outside as well. They have an extensive drink selection too. The service was great for the number of people we had in our party. I would return if I were in the area.

I went before Live After 5 last Friday. I really wasn’t feeling tacos or seafood so I got a bacon cheeseburger. It was pretty damn good. The burger was definitely not a pre made frozen patty. The bacon was crisp too. I was pleasantly surprised. I know the pao pao shrimp tacos are good. It’s a good lunch or early dinner spot.

I love this place. Awesome atmosphere, live music Sunday afternoons and super friendly staff. The woody burger is delicious and for brunch they have bottomless mimosas and a dog menu! I showed up one day 30 minutes before they opened for brunch and they went out of their way to accommodate me and make me breakfast! Didn’t find their chicken taquitos super flavorful but the chicken in the quesadilla was good!

Snapshot: 4⁄5 Chill Environment &HH, 3.4 Bar Food. Just grab an Abita, Bloody or a Jack and pair it w/the Guca and Chips. Easy kick back vibe with good service. Don’t question, go.

Me: «Let’s give this place another shot…» *Buys drink* *Kills a roach on the bar with bare hands* *Gives napkin to bartender* *Sees another one within five minutes* *Kills it* *Teenage bartenders giggle uncomfortably about it.* *Nothing else is done* *Finishes drink and gets out asap.* Welcome to Lucy’s, where no one cares about anything, and the goldfish tank for goldfish shots looks like Petco’s tanks do a day before their weekly deep cleaning.

A happy vibrant place. Surfer and beach themed. We walked in after hanging out downtown. Our service was average but the food was pretty good. They have a free app of the pow pow shrimp when you check on on Unilocal. My fish tacos were delicious. We were here during the brunch and it was a decent crowd. I would come back for sure.

Not impressed. The girls who were waiting tables, there were only two of them for the whole place, seemed very lost and had no help from the manager who pretty much just walked around looking like he was important. The food was pretty bland and nothing very memorable. My wife had the chicken tacos the chicken was pretty dry and the corn tortillas she asked for appeared to be fried. I had the juicy Lucy, the meat was dry and the bun was old and cold. Not very impressive at all. I’ve been in the bar and restaurant business for 25 years and I am literally sitting here dissecting what needs to change here and what needs improving upon to make this place run better.

Took a friend out for her birthday today. She works downtown so Lucy’s seemed like the best bet. Heard a lot about this place, seen the pics posted on Facebook and a friend of mine even has an acoustic gig here every Sunday. It always seemed like a real blast but this was the first time I’d ever been here. Right off the bat, the ambience is befitting of the name — beachy, tropical, like a real hide-away bar where you’d expect to find retired surfers. Got to give that an A Plus because that’s obviously what they’re going for and the hostess was very nice, engaging me in friendly chit-chat while I waited for my friend. Made me feel right at home, like I could have a great time here, not just for lunch but to meet friends for drinks after work or for late night merriment. The waitress recommended the Tuna Nachos so we deiced to give them a shot. These nachos were served ice-box cold. Not just the tuna but the chips, sauces and all topping were freezing to the touch. When I asked the waitress how the tuna was prepared because my friend was concerned that it was raw, the waitress said that it was lightly seared on each side. If that were the case, this tuna was not lightly seared at the time we ordered but more likely the day before and put in the refrigerator overnight. This was by far the worst appetizer that I’ve had in any restaurant and neither my friend or I could not eat these nachos. Dare I say, it’s the only reason that I did not give this place a more stars. The entrees however made up for this. I ordered the Blackened Mahi Sandwich and my friend ordered the Fish Tacos. The Blackened Mahi Sandwich was Mahi, avocado crème, cabbage slaw and mayo on a bun served with fries and the Fish Tacos were served with chips and salsa. Both were tasty, easy to eat dishes that blend themselves well in a bar/restaurant such as this with a casual/fun atmosphere and laid-back feel. Someone told me the the menu had been shortened recently. That’s fine with me me because this isn’t the sort of place where you want to be bogged down with choices. There is also outdoor seating and festive music playing on the sound system. By all means, come here, invite some friends, have a few beers. You’ll be glad you did because you can’t go wrong with Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar & Restaurant. Life’s short, enjoy yourself. Just don’t order the Tuna Nachos no matter how good the waitress says they are.

This place has a fun atmosphere, especially for happy hour after work or for before going out downtown on the weekend. It does get loud, so I wouldn’t recommend it for a romantic date night or anything like that. My personal recommendation is the tortilla soup. It comes with all of the mix-ins on a side plate(shredded chicken, grilled corn, avocado, pico de gallo, etc.). It’s a bit spicy but super delicious and always leaves me wanting another bowl. I frequently get an original frozen margarita, which on a good night, tastes just like key lime pie. Yum. Don’t forget to check in for their special Unilocal offer. Spicy shrimp for free!

Going out on a Sunday night is usually a big no-no for me. I get up way too early for work and it can hurt sometimes. However, that is not going to keep me from going to a new place that I have never been to before. The minute we walked up to Lucy’s front door we were amazed how awesome it looked. People were everywhere, friends I didn’t expect to be there were there, music was all around. My wife and I love going to new places and this place was turning out to be a great choice. As soon as I entered I felt like watching Endless Summer 1 and 2. I had a very relaxed feeling seeing all the surfing memorabilia and bright colors every where. There was a good vibe coming from this place. It was still looking like we made an excellent choice. Time for libations. We sat in a little room just to the right of the main party area. It had big closable doors perfect for little private parties perhaps. As soon as I entered someone told me my seat was ready, pointing to the large lifeguard chair. It made me want to be Hasselhoff. The bar was respectable and as long as they had«W.T.» I am satisfied. My wife tried a few of their signature mixers and they weren’t half bad. She liked them so I was pleased. Hunger reared it ugly head and we quickly downed delicious Pao Pao shrimp, I don’t know how many, they were just good. But then a friend told me to get a Juicy Lucy burger and coming off our burger crawl a couple weeks prior I wanted to add Lucy’s to our list. Long to short, I finished my half of the burger in 30 seconds. I am a food gobbler and this burger lived up to its name. Delicious food all around, great service, fun people, plenty of drinks, a great time was had. We will definitely return to Lucy’s.
