The food was good but the service was horrible I waited 1 hour for one order of sushi the excuse was they had a big party. But come on one order of sushi took over an hour to prepare??? There were 4 other people with the same complaint waiting to talk to the manager. She did comp us I might try again before I leave and update my review the appetizer was phenomenal

My first tip out the gate is to make a reservation. This place is always packed and there is not much indoor seating. Tsunami is open late and I have never had a problem walking in and getting seated for a late table. The service is always friendly. The sushi is some of the best around. My favorite rolls are the green monster, munchie, and the zack roll. It is pricey but the quality of the sushi and the gorgeous views of the Mississippi River are worth it.

Tsunami has always been a special place for my husband and I: first date, engagement, married on the Shaw center terrace, and now all anniversary and birthday dinners. Never once have we been disappointed. It’s always a special treat! However, we went for Valentine’s night this year and noticed a definite decrease in food quality since we’ve been about 6 months ago. Our favorite roll, the green monster, was much smaller and more like a crunchy roll! In the past this was a specialty larger roll with lots of fresh ingredients but the quality was so off this night. The other rolls we got were not fresh tasting and were also smaller than our past visits. This could simply be a result of a different sushi chef or busy night but we were so underwhelmed and for once, disappointed… What’s the deal?

People have given Tsunami mediocre reviews, but I didn’t have any problems with service and was very impressed with the food and the booze selection(Japanese whiskey? Who would’ve thought. Also, it’s awesome). View is great for date night, but pick a warm and dry night to go out on the balcony. Otherwise, you’re going to have problems. Pricey, but expected, given the rent, and the food was more than worth it.

Fantastic place with great view and awesome food. From the drinks to the appetizers to the main course and desserts everything was fantastic. I loved what you did during NYE too! Keep up the good service.

Having a nice atmosphere doesn’t help with the serving crappy food anymore. Servers and bartenders are awesome in this place but the money we spent on NYE for food vs what was offered was a joke. We knew ahead of time what they are serving for the evening but didn’t think it was gonna be this lame. Sorry we won’t be back.

Great Sushi and even better view; I had the box a combination of regular food and sushi.

Tsunami used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Baton Rouge. Oh have things changed ever since BRIANOWENS, the general manager, started working there. He is without a doubt the rudest, most unaccommodating restaurant employee I have ever encountered. Not only did Tsunami dishonor our reservation, after making our 12 person party wait over an hour, BRAINOWENS disrespected my wife by saying«if you don’t want to wait, you can just leave.» As I attempted to confront him and find out what was going on, he proceeded to tell me «you need to control your female.» Is this how Tsnunami management wants to be represented? If I were the owner I’d think long and hard about BRIANOWENS future as general manager. Steer clear of the short, bald guy unless you want trouble. I 100% will not be returning as long as BRIANOWENS remains general manager.

This was tough as I wanted to give three stars for service but the sushi was so good and so fresh that I had to go with four stars. Situated on the top floor of the shaw center in downtown BR, Tsunami offers a wonderful rooftop balcony with views of historic BR as well as the Mississippi River. I went with a party of 8 for dinner and we ordered our food at about 7:55 pm. We didn’t end up eating until about 9:30 pm. The wait time for sushi was atrocious but now I know why. It is just really that good! TIP: Don’t come here if you are starving or want quick/stellar service. Come if you want fresh sushi that is really amazing and made with care and if you want to be in a nice environment with breathtaking views.

I had the pleasure to have drinks and sushi on the roof. The service was good and the hung low rolls(not sure if I spelled that correctly lol) were fantastic! I shall return

LOVEITHERE! The BIG easy is tops! It taste like Louisiana and is so filling. The view is amazing and is very romantic at night. Great date place but also for conducting a business meeting during the day.

This establishment used to be one of the best places in the city! Not anymore. My friends and I were treated so rudely by the waitstaff during our visit. Our waitress was«new» and did not properly explain the happy hour menu(which has drastically changed since my last visit), and people from my party were blamed for«not understanding» the happy hour menu. Our waitress scoffed, rolled her eyes and exasperated the entire night when anyone asked for drinks or sushi. Wait… is that not what we’re here for? Tuesday nights used to be slammed with business. I understand why this is no longer the case. In addition to a rude waitress, the bartenders walked off in the middle of a conversation and the manager was unaccommodating for a group that came in to spend over $ 500. Hot dishes came cold, and drink orders were ignored. The sushi is OK at best, so if you want to spend a lot for a little, this might be your place. If you’re interested in being treated like a valued customer, I would suggest some of the other sushi places in the area. You will sacrifice the view of the river, but don’t expect much more than that here.

Do not come here on a Saturday night! Although the hostess was very accommodating, the waitstaff is not. Our waiter left us waiting in between our drink orders, the food orders, and then the food itself. In between the drinks and food, it took more than an hour. I don’t even know what the food taste like at this time because I’m still waiting! Also, asking for a refill also takes just as long. If the waitstaff was short, then they should have less patrons. This would be last time I come to this place. It gets 2 stars for the view, the hostesses, and what little experience i had with their appetizers. Update: MYFOODWASCOLD.

Come for the View; Stay for the Food! So, at the spur of the moment I asked some of my co-workers if they’d like to catch the trolley with me and head over to Tsunami for lunch. They agreed and off we went. Some had heard of Tsunami and had not ever been there; others had been for dinner, but never for lunch. I suggested the bento box lunch specials. Most ordered the salmon(can’t remember if it is grilled or blackened?) but it was AMAZING! First, they bring you this rolled up warm gauze to wash your hands with. Your meal comes with miso soup, this picked cucumber salad, rice, your choice of select sushi rolls, and some fresh fruit(a large strawberry and some blueberries). Everything was so good! The view was amazing, and we all had a great time getting there and back on the trolley. The bento box is $ 12, and while that might be slightly more than we usually pay for lunch, it was such a great treat on Friday and completely worth it!

I wish I could give this place more stars. We came here on our last night in Louisiana as an anniversary gift from my aunt and uncle. My aunt had heard great things about this place from coworkers, so she made a reservation(which is definitely recommended). This place is on the 6th floor of the Shaw Center. We got a table facing the river. We all ordered so many things, so I’ll just name what hubby and I ordered: Miso Soup, Cisotake, Gyoza Umami, the Don Tuan Roll, the Hung Lo Roll, The Leon Special Roll, the Ragin Cajun Roll, and the Soda Pop float for dessert(with Praline Cream Soda) Everything was amazing. The Leon Special Roll had so much flavor. The gator in the Ragin Cajun was delish. And the seasoning on the Cisotake was on point. One of the best things about this place was the service. Our server Kayla was amazing. She answered any and all questions we had and had a great attitude. Even the manager came over to see how we were enjoying our meals. Once my aunt told him we were celebrating our first anniversary, he bought us two drinks of our choice. Hubby chose the plum wine, which let me tell you is SOGOOD! I am not a wine person at all, but this wine was delicious! It tasted like a spiked Capri Sun LOL. After dinner we went out on to the roof and got pictures in front of the bridge. There is also a full bar and projected tv screen with the game on out there. We will be back, FORSURE!!! :)

Went with evening dinner after work. Very affordable and really quite good. Had 2 Rolls and Nigiri and too much for my stomach, but my eyes order first. Really should have Nigiri and share 1 roll. Not sure what people say about the service, seems pretty good. But perhaps not good for larger parties. Could be there downfall. View was nice, but honestly I would have never even thought about if except for another Unilocaler. Good to read ahead. Had a nice Sake. Love that even smaller towns can have a larger selection of Sake. Fresh and very affordable. I said that already right. Going to be coming here biweekly, if not weekly due to schedule. Will check in after we try more.

Lunched here Friday — the imminent threat of rain did not allow us to dine outside. Lunchtime atmosphere is much different than evening/night — much quieter and calmer and not as busy. Since food served usually consists in part of sushi the service is not quick albeit tsunami is efficient. We ordered seaweed salad which was an ample portion. One of us ordered an umagi bowl —luncheon special — which is served with a choice of chicken, shrimp or beef —this was served with a fried egg(or was it scrambled) —that was different. Ordered 3 sushi rolls — rock n roll, philly, and a unique 3rd roll where the exterior consisted of fried tempura. The cost for the 3 rolls was just over $ 30 so it qualifies as expensive IMHO. Tsunami has catchy and descriptive names for its rolls however the taste and consistency is not as top notch. On the other hand in 2015 Baton Rouge, quality rolls are more and more difficult to find and with the view and rooftop dining, I think the sushi served by tsunami is acceptable. But if the atmosphere was not there…

This review is based on customer service alone. I personally enjoy dining here and sipping on a cocktail at sunset. It was my sisters birthday and she really wanted to dine here with our family and closest friends. We called to make a reservation a couple days before her birthday for a party of 10. We were told they needed a $ 100 deposit. Fine. I can understand that as they don’t have too many tables in there and need to ensure that we would show up. Well, it gets better. We were then told that we were required to spend ATLEAST $ 45/person. That comes out to over 450.00 for our group. Granted that we probably would’ve met that anyway, it was rude that we were not trusted. I nor anyone else that was going to this dinner would screw our waiter/waitress. I’m sorry that your wait staff has been disappointed in the past with a group of ten only spending $ 200, but that happens in this line of work. Other people shouldn’t be punished for their wrong doings. I worked in the service industry for almost 10 years and that’s just something that you have to deal with. When asked to speak to the manager(we were speaking with the assistant manager), he wasn’t available. We sent a message on Facebook to try to contact him but no luck there. The assistant manager said that if we didn’t meet our minimum amount due that we could order some sushi to go. I’m sorry, but I don’t know many people who eat leftover sushi. Really!!! After this insulting encounter, we took our business to Stroube’s and spent way more. Sorry your business missed out on an excellent group of people due to your ridiculous rules. I’ll be keeping my business at Rock N Sake for my big girls group dinners etx from now on. I’m a big Unilocaler and I hope this review gets read by many. I’m not one of those reviewers that only gets on here and writes bad reviews. I tell the honest truth and it takes a lot for me to give one star to a restaurant that has so many other positive reviews.

Truly my favorite restaurant. Food is always Fresh. Chris welch is the best server. Drinks are always amazing. View is beautiful. Honestly I have nothing to complain about. I love the fact that they use open table– love dem points. The atmosphere is relaxing and pleasant to the eye. Outside seating is my favorite. Oysters are amazing. And this is my favorite snow crab salad. This place is very consistent. I will never reject a girls night or date night offer to tsunamis.

Non sushi eater’s short and sweet review We went here on a Tuesday around 645pm. The restaurant was fairly empty at this time. At around 730 it was pretty packed inside The view was very nice overlooking the water. They have large windows so you don’t necessarily have to sit outside in the humid air to enjoy it We started with the calamari which were pretty good. The batter wasn’t too heavy and there was plenty of meat in each bite. Decent appetizer for 2 – 3 people. I had the short rib. It was incredibly tender and more than enough for a hungry, full-grown man. It was served over a bed of rice. The sauce had a slight teriyaki flavor to it and a little too thick for me but it didn’t take too much away. The bok choy was over done. The rice was also pretty good. For desert I had the lava cake. The cake was a little on the dry side but the hot fudge and ice cream negated that. Ice cream was also a little too frozen but still pretty good It’s a nice restaurant. Great service. A little pricey but not too bad. Maybe worth it for the view and atmosphere
