Overall, dining plan or not this place still blows. Since our last visit a year and a half ago they did away with all hot food options here(although I’m going to guess that those kitchen facilities are now used for making the food for Las Ventanas which is around the corner) and all your left with is: * Mass produced muffins/cookies/pastries/cakes — the best of which sell out fairy early in the day and no, they don’t make more or have more once they run out for the day. * Gelato that looks good but I’ve never tried it nor have I seen anyone try it over the course of staying at Coronado three times. * A cooler full of yogurt parfaits, salads, fruit cups, wraps and other things that wouldn’t be out of place at the circular grab and go area that are in WaWa’s so in other words overpriced and tastes bland or like crap. They also sell beer and other limited quantities of liquor but overall this place exists as Coronado’s main mug refill station as there is a steady stream of people in here for that purpose alone from when they open at six until when they close at eleven. In a pinch(and boy it would have to be one hell of a pinch) this place I guess isn’t so bad but you would be better served by hitting Pepper Market next door as it least everything there is MTO or you could/should walk/drive the mile to the McDonalds on Buena Vista Drive.

If you’re looking to refill your mug, Café Rix is probably your best bet at Coronado Springs. They have soft drinks, hot coffee, and tea. I’m not sure if you’re really supposed to put coffee in the refillable mugs but I did it anyway. They don’t seem to care too much. The only thing is — the refill station has a really funky smell. So if you don’t mind it, then go for it. It’s(probably?) clean. You can also use a snack credit option from the dining plan, They have bagels, muffins, breakfast pastries, donuts, etc. Aside from that, they’ve got beer and wine for sale. I believe it closes at 11 or 12, so you would have plenty of time after the park closes to make a pit stop here before heading back to your room.

Good for a grab and go latte or coffee with a treat such as a muffin or pastry. Small seating area around the corner that is inviting and quiet. Has salads and other a la cart items. The pepper market next door has awful food so just eat here if you are looking for a quick meal when staying at the hotel.

Café Rix is located inside of the Disney Coronado Springs Resort. It’s a quick, self-serve, pay when you exit type of a place. I was in Disneyworld for a Conference and I had lodging arrangements at Coronado Springs(same place where the Conference was taking place as well). With workshop sessions taking place early in the morning inside of the various ballrooms and exhibit halls at Coronado Springs, one had to grab a quick meal for breakfast in order to make it on time to the offered workshops. Enter, Café Rix. While Coronado Springs has a sit down breakfast type of a place in the«Pepper Market», for those looking to just grab a quick bite and be on their merry way, Café Rix was the solution. During the first morning of the Conference, I found myself craving for some breakfast so I decided to pop into Café Rix to see what they offered. As soon as you walk in, you see the pastries section of Café Rix, that offers croissants, donuts, and other various cream filled delights. While I never got any of these pastries, they sure did look appealing through the glass. Next to the pastries section, is a frozen section for gelato. I never saw anyone grab some, but it didn’t look like anything special. As I walked further into the Café, that’s when I saw the hot sandwich/grill section and that’s when my eyes lit up and is what I’m basing most of my review on. Hot croissant sandwiches in three different options: egg & cheese //ham, egg, & cheese //bacon, egg, & cheese. When I saw these selections, it immediately took me back to my childhood as my dad would always make croissant sandwiches for breakfast and they were always so tasty… probably not the best for your health, but delicious nonetheless. Being an avid bacon lover, I chose to go with the bacon, egg, & cheese croissant(See Picture) and from that point on, that’s ALL I had for breakfast during my time at Coronado Springs. The croissant sandwich was absolutely delicious and hit the spot. The croissant was buttery, flaky, and tasty and the egg, cheese, and bacon were a perfect match. Crispy bacon, melted cheese, and a delightful egg made for a great basic flavor profile. It doesn’t get served with any condiments; however, you can pick up mayonaise, mustard, and ketchup packets close to the registers where you pay. The accompanying hash brown, even though you can tell it came from a bag of frozen hash browns, was pretty good and made for a great texture change from the croissant sandwich. I was quite surprised with the breakfast options Café Rix offered and when I saw that they had a croissant sandwich, which looks like they serve on a daily basis, I was instantly won over. So, based on just the croissant sandwich and the friendly service and smiling faces I always saw when I was in there, this is why I have rated it the way I did. Of course, other people will have their own opinion about this place, but I personally don’t think it was all that bad for being a quick, self-serve kind of a place. If you need that quick bite and need something more than those snacks you would buy at a convenience store, Café Rix delivers. Thanks, Café Rix, for the trip down memory lane!

There are certain things that a croissant should be. The croissants at Café Rix are none of those things. While attending a conference at the Coronado Springs Hotel recently, I found myself with 45 minutes to kill and a need for fuel so I purchased a newspaper and then stepped into Café Rix to order whatever looked good and a cup of coffee. I’ll not likely make that mistake again. Café Rix is a station by station style of quick service restraurant. Patrons walk in through the entrance, proceed past a bakery station, a sandwich/quick breakfast station, a gelato station and then an espresso station. Brewed coffee and fountain beverages are then available near the cash registers. After paying, patrons need to take their food elsewhere as there is no seating in the café(but ample seating nearby, including outdoor seating). I ordered a croissant and coffee. Neither were up to any standard by which I measure food. The croissant was seemingly made of paper, both in texture and flavor(or more accurately, lack of flavor). How does one make a croissant that does not at least suggest a hint of butter? Certainly, no baker can aspire to that, but that is what the bakery at Café Rix(or its vendors) offers. I cannot say that the croissant tasted«bad» because it had no taste at all. Surely, a Disney property should be able to do better and at least rise to a level of mediocrity. The coffee I purchased was little better than the croissant. Flavorless, perhaps a little burned, and bitter. Total bill: $ 7.01.(!) If you find yourself at Café Rix, do not be seduced by its convenient location. Pepper Market, 30 yards away, will serve you better.

The pepper market in there is awesome compared to the rest of the Disney world food… The service is usually good. The hours are kind of a pain but at least café rix can hold you over

Score one for convenience certainly, but sadly score zero for food quality. Rix cannot make a soy latte to save its life, unless you consider a chalky, watery and chemical tasting version with very poor expresso a latte. Even in my most desperate moments in DWorld, when I sank to the lowest levels that perhaps only the truly coffee addicted can know, I still could not drink a Rix’s latte. I’d have to venture that goes for all the remaining expresso and coffee drinks. Seriously, has no one heard of a Nepresso in central Florida? There is a cure for this kind of terrible expresso malady. Ugh. Its really too bad to have a coffee house in your hotel, and no desire(even with Disney standards in mind) to drink their coffee. They do have somewhat attractive looking pastries and Krispy Kremes, but if you can’t couple that with a decent cup of coffee, what’s the point? Better go to one of the parks(Epcot’s French Café) and try your breakfast luck there. The single service coffee machines in the room sadly produce a far more tasty end product.

As a guest of the resort, we stopped in on the first night looking for a large pizza to take back to our room. This resort serves large pizza if you call for room service(what a joke, they add $ 3.00, plus sales tax plus an 18% tip) the small pizza served here was the worst I ever had. One bite and I threw it in the trash. Dont waste your time and money here.

The food was a little pricey. But was a fair good portion. I would recommend this restaurant for family dining. Bow Wow!

*Note improvement as of Summer 2012* My dining companion and I have dined at Café Rix while attending an event at the Coronado Springs Resort for the past 3 years. Before this year, I would have given only 2 stars since the food(with the exception of a refreshing Sorbets) was«Meh» at a very resorty price. However, the quality of food rose noticeably and gets a big bump up with an outstanding new selection: the Café Rix Signature Sandwich. The Signature Sandwich is a delectable savory blend of shaved pastrami, provolone cheese, refreshing green leaf lettuce, good quality sliced tomato, and a delicate house Italian vinaigrette to tie it all together. The first time we had it, my DC dashed over to Café Rix in the middle of an event, so we let it cool to a room temperature before eating it. When we finally got to it, we were blown away by the combination of flavors that we ordered it twice more(once hot and once cooled). In addition to the Signature Sandwich, their individually-portioned Pizzas are done nicely as an amusement park staple. We jazzed it up a Pepperoni Pizza with fresh garlic we brought with us. While their pastry selection is nice, it is pricey so we usually opt for a bright and flavorful Strawberry Sorbet(Coconut is good, too) and cup of coffee. All in all, Café Rix has done a nice job upgrading their food and adding the outstanding new Signature Sandwich. Keep it going!

Very disappointing, extremely slow service, disorganized and if your looking for healthy, you can have fruit salad or the fruit salad. The worst part is if you don’t want a $ 15 buffet breakfast then your choice is here or don’t eat. After the first day, I chose the latter.

The only other option for food while staying at the Coronado Springs resort. I believe that the food which comes from room service may be from the Rix. Not for certain, although the pricing is relative. Rix is two locations right next to each other within the resorts’ main or common areas. Rix Café and Rix Lounge. Café Rix is your better option when in the need of coffee(allow them to make it for you, not the self serve), quick snacks like a 7“by 4″ square slice of pizza will run you $ 10(so plain in taste yet looks attractive, 20 minutes after devouring your still wondering why the F you decided to pay that much for crap), an ugly open face breakfast sandwich $ 8 or quiche with a whopping 4 bites for the same price. As Goofy might saw gwash! They have bottles of Powerade, water, beer, wine, no Coke products. Soda is only available via fountain. Café also closes at 11pm sharp. So when you’re lounging next door at Rix Lounge partying into the night, your in for a rude awakening of no food at 1 am! Chewing gum is not available at the Coronado Springs resort, that’s their way of making sure, kids and adults aren’t spitting it all over the sidewalk. The negatives about this place outweigh the goods which is why I can’t allow myself to take the rating any higher.
