Six String Grill a modern cowboy music bar and grill, with a side of mini-golf. Lots of guitars and rusted panels to give it a hint of the«distressed junk yard» look to contrast with the rest of the modern, almost Ikea-like, décor. Right next door, an 18 hole mini golf course. I really wasn’t sure what they were going for as far as ambiance was concerned, but hey, mini-golf. «Can’t be bad, right?» I thought. I was so very wrong. I went for Sunday Brunch with a large group of people. Ordering the chicken and waffles, imagine my surprise to have a nice, long piece of plastic twirled up in top of my overly cooked chicken(the waffled looked… okay?). I’m guessing it was the wrapping from the«butter»(more on that in a moment) — two other guests had the same exact problem. It had been almost an hour before we were served to being with(apparently they were grossly understaffed). Still, I sent my meal back. What I got in return(much more quickly) was a nicer looking piece of chicken on a now woefully undercooked waffle. The thimble sized side of syrup was barley enough for a quarter of the waffle and instead of plastic, now there as a yellowish, firm disk of… «butter?» It didn’t feel like butter under my fork; it didn’t have a butter smell and it barely hinted at tasting like butter. I’m assuming it was once wrapped in plastic and I was hard pressed to think it wasn’t actually plastic itself. I set that aside. So how’d it taste? Not bad. The undercooked waffle was at least moist, and the chicken firm and the right temperature, easy to cut into. Certainly wasn’t great, considering the ordeal. My dining companions all had similar, poor experiences. While my C&W meal was quite large, a quick glance around the table showed woefully small offerings and at least three people didn’t properly get the order they placed the first time around. Some of the food was cold. For a Sunday brunch, this was not a good experience. It was so poor that it took away from the overall amusement of a a nice game of mini-golf might have overcome. The wait staff didn’t seem to be in control. They were friendly to us and I imagine frustrated with the kitchen staff. They were as helpful as maybe they could manage for being allegedly understaffed(and the place wasn’t that busy, really). My suspicions? Management is skimpy and has rules that limit what the wait staff can do. Could be wrong, but when a thimble full of syrup and obviously mass produced, umm, «butter» are the best they can manage for condiments, imagine where else they’re holding back on. While the the idea of guitars and golf sounds good, thematically, it just doesn’t work and then when the added burden of plastic-as-condiments, one mistaken order after another and a host of other minor annoyances, I’d suggest you save on your gas money and find a place closer to home.

Love this place! Wow! Food is good, Bloody Mary’s are done right – homemade, food is really good – fresh, they have a cool little building for kids to play arcade games, a fantastically Texas mini golf covered with shady Live Oak trees and loads of outdoor seating. This is the place to watch football games too – 7 large screen TV’s inside, plenty of booths, and tall tables that seat 12 to 14 people each. So imagine going to a restaurant with a couple sets of friends and everyone brings their children. You can go outside and play a nice round of putt putt or miniature golf, or the adults can sit on the patio while the kids play miniature golf and you can watch your kids playing from the porch. Everyone’s happy! Then, when the kids finish playing golf, you can fill their hands with some quarters and they can go to the treehouse which is a little mini arcade that is reminiscent of a treehouse. While all this is going on, you can have good food that tastes fresh and fun drinks and enjoy yourself with your friends. But, if you want to keep the kids with you and do everything together, there’s plenty of really good food choices for the kids to enjoy! I would suggest getting them the appetizer sliders. They are fantastic! I’m not a big beer drinker, but everyone I was with today loves beer and they liked all the choices. I however had a Bloody Mary that was fantastic! Being a Bloody Mary snob, I appreciate when a Bloody Mary is more than just a mix of some sort. Here the spend one with adding the worstershire sauce, etc and even a little dash of beer. We also ordered the calamari which I would definitely order again. My husband and daughter had the chicken wings, mild, and liked them a lot. Service was five star with great attention and friendly and enjoyable staff. I’m looking forward to going back again!

Six String Grill… oh please sing me a sad song to go along with your subpar food offerings and horrendous service, despite your neat mini-golf lanes on site. Wanted to visit more than once before writing a review to offer a fair assessment. Unfortunately, the subsequent visit failed to ease any of the anguish I experienced after my first visit. In short, I don’t see a reason to return. Ever. First visit, felt like they were in the middle of their soft opening, despite the fact Six String’s had been in full operation for at least 6 months. A Saturday evening around 9pm: Hubby and I ask for a table on the outside deck. Were seated by very young hostess, showed her the table was dirty(i.e., had not been cleaned since last guests)…she never returned as promised. Took about 20 minutes for another teenage staff member to take our drink and food orders(by that time we had decided on both). Hubs decided to try the Pub Style Fish and Chips($ 14) and the 3 beef slider app(only 8 bucks) for me please. Server asked me what kind of cheese I wanted on my sliders, I asked her«what do you have» and she responded«I don’t know.» From the very get go, SO blatantly obvious there is no sense of «team» at Six String Grill, the management must be really poor, and the staff is simply not trained… at all. Managed to waive someone down to wipe down table prior to food being delivered. Was made especially messy as our draft beers and iced water glasses were delivered without any napkins or coasters to set them on during a rather hot outdoor dining experience. Drip, drip, down my leg. Food came. Husband had two little sad pieces of fish(no malt vinegar available). Dry fish, soggy batter. Sliders had good flavor, but were charred to the edge of being inedible. Dinnerware and napkins? Nope! Waive, waive… over here please. Next visit with friends earlier in the evening on a weekend, very similar experience. Overall lack of quality customer service and food borderline HORRIBLE. «Dehydrated» hot dogs for the friend’s kiddos(I wouldn’t be surprised if they need dentures now), weird shaped tiny, overcooked, super dry chicken wings for $ 12(12 wings; one of the two sauces was admittedly tasty), and Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos were like flavorless rubber(@$ 13.50). I thought long and hard about calling SSG and speaking to a manager prior to posting this review, but then I came to a personal conclusion that it wouldn’t matter anyway. I think they know they have some«issues;» however, simply choose not to address them(or at least, not in an effective manner). So sad! This place has great potential! When I first walked up, I was über impressed by their vast outdoor seating, the streamline yet inside/outside feeling décor, the cool putt putt(come on!), live music stage, and even the«treehouse» full of games for kids. All of the kids seem to LOVE the joint — even on a Friday night at 9pm there were tons(very family friendly, so if you’re not a breeder, might not be your scene anyway-there are kiddos running up and down and all around the patio areas); however, Six Strings has to provide decent enough service and food in order for parents to want to return and relax while their children entertain themselves, especially for the amount of moola. We’re not talking P. Terry prices here folks. Boo SSG! No gold star for you! Well… maybe one, or two, I guess. Best of luck! [I support local.] RE: Responses from owner to customers who have had negative experiences(like myself) are very much appreciated(it shows true caring and effort to please, albeit somewhat generic); however, come across like excuses instead of putting things in high gear and making the appropriate changes. As the owner stated, Six Strings has been open for a year = the excuse timeline has expired… despite all of the«raving reviews» about the food. And, btw, the late Saturday night we went the restaurant wasn’t really all that busy. Only about a dozen tables(with 3x more kiddos than adults) present. I don’t know if the owner is constantly onsite, but based on several other reviews there is a problem with service, preparation, and presentation. The restaurant should run with the same high standards whether the owner is there or not — maybe all of these«mishaps» are made during his absence. ??? I’m perplexed. Are you? I would LOVE for SSG to be greeeaaaattttt. But sorry folks, in my honest and humble opinion, it’s just not so… right now. I truly do wish the owner and the restaurant all the best of success. Maybe I’ll give them another try in the middle of their second year as my first visits that were months apart were«not typical» experiences, but were almost identical in terms of service and food. :P [165 in 2015]
