Blondies Berkeley is open all along, does any body know why Unilocal insists on reporting it closed?

This place has transformed from what it was! Pizza is huge and delicious and the staff is next level.

Thanks God it is still open, but it looks like under new management. The store looks much cleaner and they are making the old recipe pizza that made Blondie’s famous.

RIP Blondie’s. Not sure how to process this. 5 star memories, although it had become a new tradition for my kids and I to go in for a slice on the last day of school(today), so I guess we’ll have to go to Fat Slice now. I’m sure it’s fine. But it’s not Blondie’s. Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin…

Bummed that I’m hearing that this location closed. My son and I would treat ourselves to a fat slice every time we visited Berkeley. Great memories and awesome, greasy pizza.

With so many competitors you would think that this place would get with the times. Unfortunately their greasy pizza for outrageous prices was not a good business model in a college town. Coupled with the fact that their SF location had a health score of 74, I’m sure the Berkeley location was not far off. It was dirty and the kitchen was a mess when I visited. Good riddance.

RIP As a starving Cal student in the early 80’s there was nothing better than having a few extra coins to rub together and get a Blondie’s slice instead of bringing a soggy sandwich to campus for lunch. I fell in love with that place the first time I ever set foot in it, a year or so before transferring to Cal. This was long before they doubled their space, much less opened other outlets. Just a narrow hole in the wall and a long line out the door that you never minded waiting in because you were always with and/or ran into someone you knew. So many great old 70’s-80’s Southside institutions have fallen by the wayside to be replaced by national chains. It’s just so very very sad.

Holy fuck. It’s closed. Anyone who came of age at Cal in the 80’s or 90’s knew this place intimately and relied upon it for abundant and cheap calories. Back then the slices were doughy and enormous. The sauce was always a bit too sweet and uninteresting, and the toppings average at best. The pepperoni, for example, was the greasiest in town and it took four or five napkins to blot up the orange ooze. The mushrooms could be gritty. But that wasn’t the point. For very little money you could get an awful lot of calories of the kind any self-respecting college student so often –and so urgently– needs. The airy crust tasted like thick warm Wonder Bread. Delicious, freshly-baked Wonder Bread. It was perfect, in its way. For the first time in ages I had a slice there just last month. This slice was noticeably smaller and less doughy than I remember, and the sauce was really bad although maybe not as bad as the clueless and overmatched servers who took close to ten minutes to fashion a simple pepperoni slice. That probably would have been the end for me for at least another decade, and now the end of the whole freakin’ place has made damn sure of it. Last year Oscar’s closed, now this. Another chapter of life as we know it in Berkeley has come to an unceremonious end. The closing of Blondie’s is unimaginable, but maybe none of this should surprise. For as Dylan wrote maybe a decade or so before Blondie’s got its start, the times they are a-changin’

I’m honest I’m giving 5 stars because of BEEF pepperoni!!! I don’t eat pork and I am so annoyed that majority of pizza places use pork. There is other meat. Thank you for being different, now if only people would sell beef bacon…

i am so disappointed after today’s visit. the first time i went to blondies was in the 80s. i was in hi-school. it was great. my friends and i agreed that it was probably the best pizza in the world… even though most of us had never been out of the bay area. today’s visit was a complete disappointment. the place was clean, but the pizza was mediocre, and the staff behind the counter seemed to have no idea how to treat their customers. if the owner /manager of this restaurant is reading this, please make sure your employees know that customer service is very important. even if the food is excellent. in this case, the food is moderately good. however, the customer service stinks. as another reviewer recommended, try Fat Slice across the street. better product, much better staff. i will not be spending any more money at Blondies, Berkeley.

Blondie’s Pizza? Fat Slice? Ah! College Pizza at its best. Blondie’s? Fat Slice? BOTH. These are not your trendier, thin-crust slices offered at places such as Cheese Board. No. These are pizza slices that are filling, delicious, and convenient. They are great to grab on the go, and eat as you walk to class, to work, or to a CAL game. But they also have plenty of seats, in case you want to people watch… If you tried them when you were younger, and now you don’t like them, it is only because you have changed, you have gotten older, and now have a more ‘refined’ taste. But Fat Slice and Blondie’s should remind you of when you were younger, and when life was not that complicated… It is places like Fat Slice and Blondie’s that keep Berkeley young, atone with the brilliant student population, and its surroundings.

The pizza is so gross and the man who works the register is a creep. Over priced for the quality. Id suggest you go to fat slice across the street. 2 stars because the place is clean.

It was just ok to me. I think this is a notch above 99 cent NYC pizza. I think there are better places out there but if I were coming from a nearby bar and wanting to eat something really late at night then i could see the appeal. Had a plain slice though. Maybe next time I should get pepperoni.

Bummed to leave this review… I used to drive 20+ miles for this pizza. I liked it fresh or reheated. The problem is the quality took a real dive. Slices are smaller… Crust is thinner… Pizza more expensive. Back in the day this place was THE spot… Next time I think ill give fat slice another try. Step your pizza game back up Blondies. 2 stars because guy at register asked how my day was and really seemed to care… Nice to encounter real human beings that care these days but I want real pizza with that service please.

I swear this place use to be better. Still good, just not as good as I remember it being. I still come here for the whole nostalgia thing though. Great for the price, that’s for sure!

Been eating blondies for quite a time now. Love how they sell pieces of pie and whole pies. Both pizzas are well put together fluffy crust light sauce and plenty of toppings. Awesome place to grab some pie before a game or on a late night. The one in Berkeley is a little ghetto but it doesn’t mean it taste bad at all if your looking for a pies fix stop in a get a piece!

Blondies! In a former life under much different circumstances, myself and a few of my closest 20 year old friends all stumbled in here to get pizza. It was the best pizza I had ever eaten in my life. Or so I thought… Many years have passed since that day. And this time I find myself walking into Blondie’s pizza again with my wife and 2 kids. Many things are different today. But do you know what? The Pizza was every bit as good as I remember it. When you order a mushroom and pepperoni pizza, you will get lots of HuGe chunks of mushrooms and LoTs of pepperoni. And they bake it on the spot and call you when its ready, so it’s hot and fresh. You have to sink your teeth into the soft, hot crust and taste this awesomeness to understand. Thank you Blondies! PS– Go across the street to the Cal T-shirt store on the corner and head down to the basement for your own Blondies T-shirt. That tie dye one that says, «make pizza not war».

What else can I say except for it’s Blondie’s Pizza and old school traditions that seems to have gotten better with time. We made a quick stop in B Town because the kid has been wanting to try a slice and traffic everywhere was horrendous so why not kill some time. Pizza was good, service was good, people watching was fun, I mean it is Berkeley. I’ll go back, just like I know you will

Blondie’s has been a staple of stoned and starving college kids since it popped on the scene so many ages ago. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything other than they are cheap and convenient, which is exactly the reason my hungry crew stopped in late on a Saturday night. What surprised me the most was that despite the hour, the place was practically empty. The pizza comes in massive slices with a variety of toppings and options ranging from standard to gross. I’m a pizza traditionalist and none of the crazy variations in the yellowing photos on the wall particularly appealed to me. The ingredients aren’t particularly fresh or remarkable. If you want a big slice of pizza for not a lot of dough, Blondie’s should satisfy your appetite. Otherwise, Berkeley is a city filled with incredible restaurant options and plenty of those have delicious pizzas on the menu.
