Ordered a chicken Alfredo and did not get it for 20 minutes. Had to watch as my friend ate their plates. One of them was one order number ahead of me. Slow service, would not recommend. My number was 131 but they entered 311. They cut only part of the chicken.

Salad is huge and tasty. Hate pizza so don’t know about pizza. Healthy food anyway. Environment is great.

I like this La Val’s better than the Albany one for a few reasons(both based on take out). The chicken caesar salad is a real chicken caesar at the Berkeley location with big croutons, legit cheese/chicken breast and dressing, but it’s a weird romaine/sliced tomato/tiny shitty croûton situation at the Albany location. The fettucine alfredo is somehow better from the Berkeley location too — maybe it’s more toppings or sauce? The garlic bread that comes with the pasta is the exception on my location preference — it’s better from the Albany La Val’s — theirs is composed of soft tiny pizza crusts with garlic butter, whereas the garlic bread that comes with pasta at the Berkeley location is garlic buttered sourdough which is a weird combo in my opinion. Have yet to try their pizza, but will definitely be back for more chicken caesar salads nom!

I wanted to try a new pizza place in Berkeley after not coming up with much comfort food New York style pizza… Good thing I tried this place! Their pizza was thin and the crust was crispy and tasted really good. Nice layer of cheese and didn’t skimp on the pepperonis! Bottom of the pizza was a little burnt, but overall great flavor at a really good price.

Called in a catered order for a important company meeting. I’m a GM of a food and beverage place but wanted to serve great pizza instead of our usual menu. They took my order and promised delivery from Berkeley to Oakland the next day. Called in ten minutes after it should arrive and someone said oh the driver just left 10 min ago(lie!). They call me ten minutes later and said oh we don’t deliver to Oakland. Ok did you make my pizzas? No they cancelled the order and said they tried to call me in the morning… Hello I gave you my cell and no missed calls(lie). $ 300 order and all I got was lies! How can you make promises and fail so so bad? Don’t rely on this place, manager has no clue what the staff does or says… He offered no restitution either. Done with this place. Berkley

Had a party — got five party pizzas, could have fed about 30 – 35 adults. Best pizza on island. Services is a bit old skool and the cashier honored my coupon off of my phone. The price was right. All-in-all my go to place to feed a crowd.

Good pastas. I ordered the veggie one, just normal taste. But I’d really love to try the pizza next time! Really close to my lab in Soda;)))

Unfortunately, I only had time for a quick slice before a concert… Brings back memories of growing up in New York. Loved it! Hope to come back and have dinner there. Nice and friendly staff too. Could be a little cleaner inside, but overall very satisfied here!

We stopped in for a late lunch with my guy’s family, since they have such fond memories of coming here for slices when they were young. Although the pizza was good, it wasn’t mind blowing. I really enjoyed the greek salad, too. Beer selection was pretty damn good with deals on pitchers during happy hour. Annnnd… that’s what makes me a fan of La Val’s. Cheers!

This is one of my favorite places to visit in Berkeley although my review might be biased because I use to work there when I was a student at Cal. On my most recent trip, the guys were great like always and didn’t hesitate to whip me up a vegan pizza. The environment is fun, good food, beer, and sports… what more can you ask for?

I’ve ordered delivery from here twice but never again. Both times our food was delivered cold. This last time I ordered a Greek salad with my pizza; it was soggy and the lettuce was brown. I didn’t even want to try it which was really disappointing since their estimated 45 – 60 min window for delivery took 90 mins and I was starving. I had to warm the pizza in the oven, had I known this it probably would have been quicker, easier and tastier to unwrap a frozen pizza. My pizza was dry and had minimal sauce, the toppings were stingy. I ordered chicken as my only meat topping and had 2 slices with no chicken and 2 slices with only one bite sized piece. I had specific notes in my order to use the call box in the front of my building to be buzzed in. I ordered takeout for the ease, I was having a lazy night. I tipped well when I placed my order because I know dealing with gated buildings is annoying. The delivery guy called me from outside and wouldn’t use the buzzer to come in. I had to go outside to get my cold, soggy food.

This place is owned by the same person who owns D’yar Mediterranean and La Burrita. D’yar is by far the best, and La Val’s is only ok. It’s really nothing special – I prefer other pizzerias such as Cheeseboard, Sliver, or Zachary’s.

Huge place — tons of seating. Friendly staff. Had cheesy bread and bbq chicken pizza. I would say overall flavor is lacking though. The crust is really good — thin and chewy but kind of crispy too. If I came back I might try the pasta because I saw some that looked pretty good — passed a Greek salad that looked delish too!

I went into La Val’s with awesome expectations. The pizza looked pretty good on Unilocal, and the place was full of Berkley students when I pulled up! I went in to order with my group, and… The guy at the counter had a really hard time understanding out order! It wasn’t that complex(half pepperoni, mushroom, and sausage, half vegetable with pineapple and sausage) but we had to explain it several times. When our pizza arrived, part of the sausage was missing! They were packed, so I can understand how there would be a mix up, but… The quality of the pizza itself wasn’t great. The veggie toppings tasted really low quality, like mall pizza. The meat toppings were okay, but they weren’t incredible. The crust was flavorless for the most part. It wasn’t the worst We only went here because Lo Coco’s(delicious!) and the Cheeseboard(high rated!) were closed. I wouldn’t recommend that you do the same.

If you like crappy pizza and a dirty pig pen to eat in the you’re in luck, this place is for you! I had no idea that T. J. Miller from HBO’s Silicon Valley worked here. He seemed very discombobulated perhaps he did not want to be recognized. He did inform that Val’s has been around since 1977, ironically that was the first and last time they swept up or wiped the down the tables. I ordered half of the Val’s special and cheese pizza for my 3 year old. My 3 year old seem to like the cheese pizza, so I guess all is not lost. But then again he was born without taste buds. The Val’s special half of the pizza was exactly«special.» It was special in the sense of verping up 2 day old Chinese food and ranch. Since my son liked the cheese, we decided to box it up for him so he can eat it later on. Fortunately, we accidentally dropped the pizza on the way out the door… oh darn! The sidewalk picked it up and through it out to the street… I’ve never seem that before. So, if you like T.J. Miller and random guy doing Muay Thai outside of this fine establishment while watching UFC through the window of the bar next door, you have found the right place.

Large restaurant with plenty of seating. My friend said there’s a lot of school events hosted here. The service was quick and there was only a couple people in line before me on a weekend evening. But my order came out in just a few minutes. I got a slice of pepperoni pizza(~$ 3). It’s not amazing pizza by any means but it’s cheap and a huge serving size. I was definitely full from just one slice. It’s greasy but hits the spot for me. The menu is large — they also serve personal pizzas and pasta. Overall I’d come back here if I was craving cheap solid pizza. It’s a plus that there’s a lot of seating in the place so it’s good for large groups.

Bumping up my rating of this place. Some friends and I visited La Val’s again recently, which most of us haven’t done since finishing college. We came here specifically to watch the Warriors playoff game since we figured a restaurant in northside wouldn’t be crazy packed. For events like this, it’s a great location because they actually put audio on. Lots of places have TVs that are just muted all the time, even during popular events, so it’s great that this place not only has plenty of space but also has sound. We didn’t order a whole pizza since everyone in our group arrived at different times. Instead, everyone got individual slices, which worked out nicely since the slices at this place are huge. One slice is more than enough for a regular meal. Add some beer and chicken wings and this place makes a great low key spot for watching some games.

Wow, La Val’sPizza! This place brings back some memories! We used to come here a lot in high school to hang out with our Berkeley friends. Three of us used to come here, me and my 2 cousins from Oakland, to meet up with Berkeley High friends. I guess when you are that age and haven’t actually had«gourmet» pizza, the pizza here was fine. We even had a friend working here that didn’t check our ID’s. Yeah, those were the days. I just recently came here to meet a friend up on the Northside(North of Campus area) and we ended up here. A few cosmetic changes since high school, but basically the same place. If all you’ve had is chain pizza, like Straw Hat or Pizza Hut, then the pizza here is pretty good. If you are a fan of this«artisan» and high end pizza, then it might not be so good. The pizza is perfectly edible and all, no doubt, but don’t get your hopes up about some fancy goat cheese and imported Italian olives pizza. It’s pizza and beer, that’s what La Val’s is about, and hopefully good company. If you don’t want pizza, there’s pasta, sandwiches and salads here as well. Prices are pretty cheap considering what pizza places charge these days. La Val’s does free delivery too! Come here cause you have some good company to share time with over some pizza and beer, maybe shoot some pool and have a laugh. It’s not a date place really, unless maybe you are in high school. I like it cause it’s comfortable and no weird vibes from the staff or other customers and not snooty at all. I’d come back if other wanted to.

I’m so confused. This place must have pizza made by the hands of god to warrant this high star level because I’ve only got their pasta dishes and they’re god awful. The chicken parmesan is dry, hard, and bland. The sauce is also bland, yet greasy. The meatballs in the spaghetti are gross. They’re mealy and have a bad flavor. I will never order from here again. And for some reason the spaghetti and meatballs gave my daughter explosive diarrhea. Considering spaghetti is pretty much her favorite thing ever, and she’s had it from numerous restaurants without getting explosive diarrhea, I’m going to guess something this joint did was the problem.

If La Val’s were better known, there would definitely be a circulating meme: La Val’s! Why you take so long!!! Having been to Pasta Bene and Gypsy’s multiple times by my senior year, I decided to venture to northside and give La Val’s a try. It was also a Touchdown Thursday which meant a discount, but seeing the condition of our football team I’m not confident to say that there will be good discounts in the near future. I got some pasta that I don’t remember because it was not very memorable. On the plus size, the portion was size was good, with significantly more food than the Pasta Bene lunch specials whose portions cater to small Asian girls. But the wait took forever. Unless you happened to order a slice of a pizza that they happened to just have made, it was about half an hour of standing around watching the mundane manufacturing process of pizzas and pastas. What. It takes me 15 minutes to run here from southside and twice as long waiting for a simple pasta?(Seriously, I bet even Thai Basil is faster. Jeez, I could easily have cooked my own pasta in half an hour.) The food is edible and filling, but with the meme-worthy wait, I think I’ll put up with the small-Asian-girl-proportions of Pasta Bene and greasiness of Gypsy’s.
