Tokyo DO

Tokyo Do is the only place I go for sushi in the Lehigh Valley. I have been a loyal customer for years, having been recommended by a friend of mine. The sushi is always fresh and they are by far the most reasonably priced for the quality. Unassuming from the road and simply decorated on the inside, it’s a clean and well maintained space. The business is family run, it’s a place where they remember you if you’re a regular :) I love the fact it’s a BYOB and there is no corking fee as well. It’s a hidden gem for sure! As an added bonus they now sell their awesome ginger salad dressing!

I positively LOVE Tokyo Do! The food has always been excellent! You can eat in, or call ahead for take out. I would not recommend this place for a quick meal though. Even if you call ahead give them extra time. The staff is always friendly. There never appears to be anyone there but don’t let that fool you, this place is a hidden gem!

Excellent sushi @ reasonable prices. Service average. The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars is place is unreliable as far as open hours.

The unassuming Tokyo DO offers a wide variety of fresh, delicious, and inexpensive sushi and sashimi. The special rolls are certainly worth a try, my favorite being the Halloween roll with salmon and crunch inside the roll and topped with more salmon and black caviar is fantastic. The White Dragon roll with white tuna and avocado is also fresh and fantastic, although I’m not a fan of the youzu sauce it is served with: I stuck with soy.
For a refreshing take on sushi rolls, try to sea scallop and orange roll. Just like it sounds, scallop is topped with mandarin orange slicy for a juicy experience with every bite.
The service was a bit slow, but overall a great value and a place I’d visit again.

Not super impressed. The food was fair, the atmosphere is dull and cafeteria like, and the outside is in dire need of a landscaper.
I have had better sushi at Wegmans.

This is one of the best restaurants in the Lehigh Valley. I particularly recommend the seaweed salad as well as the spicy tuna roll. Extremely flavorful and fresh sushi, tasty special rolls, and the prices are VERY reasonable. I eat here every time I’m in the area. Please note – it’s BYOB.

So, I’m updating this review to three stars, simply because I am just not as amazed anymore. Tonight we stopped in, and things just plain didn’t impress. Everything was absolutely positively okay! I just wasn’t overwhelmed like I used to be. I’m not sure what changed. Maybe it’s not you, Tokyo Do, and it’s me.
The tamago is still some of the best, though.

This place was great! The owners (I think they were the owners) were pleasant, and catered to my special requests. The fish was sooo fresh, the yellowtail melted in my mouth!
I was suprised that only a few tables were full, but as I spent some time in the restaurant, I saw many pick up their orders. I’ve only been here for a week and have already been there twice!
Try it, you’ll love the sushi!

Pretty good for a local sushi place — my favorite piece is this white tuna — YUM, try it – melts in your mouth — family owned — cute environment — weird décor but as long as the sushi is fresh — that is all i care about

Very good sushi and great prices… plus BYOB! What more really is there to say? The décor from the outside is nothing special and inside is just average, but, definitely worth a stop. In addition service was very good!

Tokyo Do is the best sushi I’ve had in the Valley. Of course, my experience is a little lacking. The only other place I’ve been is Other Fish. As far as other sushi places I’ve had this ranks right in the middle. For the price though, you really can’t do much better in Bethlehem.

Love this place. The prices are great and the friendly family is awesome.
We only live a few blocks away, so it was a no brainer to try Tokyo-​Do, but the prices and food will keep us until they close.
The atmosphere is bare, but who cares! They make everyone feel welcome and the food is great. Compared to other local sushi places, there is not a comparison. I have your usual American palate for rolls and basic sushi. I am not sure how this would stand up to your hard core Sushi places, but it blows the doors off the Other Fish on Broad Street. I have always felt ripped off after dinner there.

We are addicted to the mango roll at Tokyo Do! It’s so very good. We’ve been enjoying Tokyo Do for well over a year now. I like the cozy atmosphere, the friendly service, the variety and prices.
Just wish they were opened for lunch as well…

I ordered take away and the sushi was average. nothing really spectacular… it wasn’t bad either. I’d go back because the price was right and the sushi was ok-​much better than that place on East broad St.

This restaurant is slightly cheaper than the best sushi restaurants in the area, however, the quality of fish is awful. Not fresh, and the sushi actually smells and tastes fishy. I would never eat here again, even if it were free. The food tastes like the building looks. Enter at your own risk.

Seriously, this is as good as it’s going to get here in the Lehigh Valley. I’ve eaten at a lot of Asian restaurants in the Valley and being second-​generation Chinese-​American, I’m pretty picky. And for that reason… I’ve never come to this restaurant before. It looks extremely suspicious from the outside and the exterior of the restaurant is really drab.
However, inside the restaurant’s décor is very cozy and appealing. There’s a sushi bar where you can watch the chef do his work or you can opt for a table. Most of the menu items are À la carte, with a nice selection of appetizers and sushi items. There are some hot food options such as teriyaki but it’s fairly limited, nor do they serve donburi or ramen bowls.
The sushi is excellent and it’s better than anywhere else in the Allentown-​Bethlehem-​Easton area. It’s about average quality for NYC but the prices here are very fair. You can get two big pieces of nigiri for under $ 4.00 and you certainly get your money’s worth. Try the raw scallops with mayo!

The Valley is lacking in a lot of different types of cuisine and Japanese is definitely one of them. There are a handful of places, some good but nothing quite as good as the restaurants you’d find in larger cities. I was taking a gamble on this place, based mostly on someone’s recommendation of it. The outside does not look very promising at all. During the daytime, it’s absolutely bleak. There’s not a single car in the parking lot. I think they open late around 4ish, yet they have a lunch menu. Umm, huh?
Our service was exceptionally prompt and friendly in that awkward Asian way. My friend and I had miso soup, sushi and sashimi. All were solid in taste, quality and presentation. It wasn’t the best, but it was good. Prices here rock! They blow that other sushi place on Broad Street in Bethlehem out of the water. Hard to find a relatively inexpensive sushi place anywhere. My one gripe would be that they only have two kinds of soup — miso and onion. What happened to the udon noodle soups? You won’t find any here, I can tell you that. Oh well, other places offer that if you really crave it.
Interesting thing I discovered while sitting there. The owners are Vietnamese. I should know, I’m Vietnamese. The décor, while kinda Japanese-​inspired, was definitely done with Vietnamese tastes. The music was Vietnamese too. I didn’t hear a single word of Japanese spoken by the staff, but that’s because they were all speaking Vietnamese. Unusual? Umm, no. Surprising? Oh yeah. You gotta love the Valley and it’s entrepreneurs.

I finally was brave enough to venture into what was once, my childhood hair salon… where so many times I emerged with a poodle perm. I have to say, I don’t think they have changed the flooring, which grossed me out.
I had take-​out sushi, just one roll and it was horrible, so I thought I’d go do a sit-​down meal. We had about 4 – 5 rolls, salmon and snapper sashimi. The rolls were pretty good, I wasn’t real happy about the way they were rolled, and they could have contained a bit more fish. The sake sashimi was pretty good, the snapper which is one of my favs was not cut properly and was pretty tough.
The wait staff was very sweet, we convinced them to give us sake, even though they don’t sell it (it’s BYOB)…I will return in a pinch, as my family lives down the street.

I have been hesitant to try this place because of the history: for as long as I can remember, the building was a holiday hair salon. it is also the salon where, as a high schooler, I got the worst haircut of my life. I actually channeled my 16-​year-​old self by parking in the same spot where I sat in my car crying after the ill fated cut.
I put that behind me and had a few rolls with my friend chris this past weekend. it was pretty good! sure it’s not pretty or flashy like some places I’ve been, but like the other reviewer, I’d take taste over style any day. I never see cars in the parking lot so that worried me a bit, but by the time we ordered our appetizers a few other people had strolled in. it’s not the best sushi I’ve ever had but it’s better than anything else in a 20-​mile radius. I’ll definitely go back to check out lunch specials sometime.

For everyone in the Lehigh Valley that has been suffering through Wegman’s sushi, and for all who just didn’t know any better, I have found your sushi fix. Yes, there is sushi worth paying for in the Lehigh Valley. I was amazed – my girlfriend and I both. We had gone to Ooka a few weeks ago, but we were not satisfied.
Down to it: Tokyo DO was good. My girlfriend and I shared four rolls this past Saturday evening, and we finished off the night with some pleasantly surprising mango ice-​cream. The rolls were all slightly different from what I’ve had before, but each one was well-​prepared with considerably fresh salmon, tuna, eel, crab, and shrimp – especially for a Saturday evening. They were also very balanced; no flavor was overpowering. This was not the best sushi I have ever had, but it was very good, and more than I ever expected in this town.
Service was excellent, unlike Ooka, and we weren’t confined to a inadequately sized table mere feet away from a windy entrance, again, unlike Ooka. The décor may not have been entirely modern or contemporary, but I suspect that had a lot to do with the owners. Everyone there, including the other patrons, were Japanese; none of whom appeared to be concerned with bringing in a yuppie crowd.
I’m more than a little pleased to find a Japanese restaurant with sushi bar serving high-​quality fish at fair prices for the sacrifice of a little glitz. This is where I’ll be eating sushi in the valley.
