Wow!!! Walking in we were awed by the lovely décor. The service was excellent and the coffee was superb. We ate breakfast and were really impressed by the freshness, flavor, and presentation. This place was great in every way. We will be back.

Had an overall good experience at bernies diner. It’s is set up very cute and the food was alright. The service was good. Only complaint would be it was a little slow but the waitress made sure to check up on us often.

I have eaten at Bernies several times. Unfortunately this will be the last. Seems like every time my wife and I eat here, they are always out of something and it takes forever to get your food. This time they were out of waffles, so I chose the chicken fried steak and eggs. The chicken fried steak was dry and suffered from a bland brown gravy, saturated with onions. My wife had the Migas. The Migas with elk was tough and terribly dry. The service was average and it’s a little pricier than most places. Good luck, but we won’t be back.

Excellent service and good breakfast. Big mugs of coffee on a cold morning. Polite waiter. Will definitely come again.

Family diner with enough class and charm to make you want to return every weekend. Open only for breakfast and lunch. I’ve had the French toast with eggs and sausage and the second time I had biscuits and gravy with eggs. I liked the French toast better but thought the biscuits were excellent too. The shining star is the shrimp and grits with an over easy egg so you can break the yolk and it runs all over. The coffee is served in a bowl equivalent, which is perfect. Wish they brought little carafes of creamer rather than the little throw away ones. There are couches on busy mornings when you have to wait which is nice. Most breakfast items are $ 10 ish which may seem like a lot to a Montanan but it’s really a pretty good deal. The service is great and then you start to get recognized which is nice. There’s an older gentleman that must be the dishwasher that comes out from the kitchen occasionally. He looks real nice and smiles. I think he must have a story and would like to find out what it is someday. He stops to watch patrons and their families and then goes back to his business. I hope they feed him some pancakes once in awhile.

Soooo disappointing! Looks like it would have a cool diner atmosphere but the food and service ruin the experience. We have been here on three different occasions and it’s the same scenario each time except that the food quality has deteriorated with each visit. Service is very slow, although this appears to be a management issue. Servers are working hard but understaffed. Coffee is good, that’s the only positive. But I won’t make a special trip there just for the coffee. Overall, not impressed. I feel like I gave it a fair chance and will not be recommending to friends.

I have enjoyed breakfast and lunch here. Menu has good variety. Personal favorites are: breakfast burrito and bison burger. Tater-tots are yummy also. Draws people of all ages and food pallets.

Was in Billings a few weeks ago on business trip. As a Texan, I tend to like spicy and hot foods. Couldn’t really find any good spicy foods in Billings. A local recommended I try Bernie’s as they have Mexican food. They had a dish on their menu called elk migas. It was dry and bland. Didn’t have any jalapeño peppers, onions, tomatoes, or cheese in it. The tortilla chips on top where dry and crunchy. Not what I was expecting. On the bright side, they did have great coffee and their service was excellent. I think the lesson is to not go looking in Billings Montana for food I love to eat in Austin. Very clean friendly place, but if you are a Texan expecting real migas, don’t order them here.

Worst service I’ve suffered through for a long time. Cleaning off a table for our party took forever even though there were open tables. Finally seated but abandoned. Lots of staff but nobody seem to care or even look our way. I tried yelling to get menus but nobody seemed to notice. We fInally gave up and started to leave just as a waitress came with our menus. She didn’t seem to care that we were leaving. Save your money go around the corner to the Burger Dive and have a great meal with great service.

Really, really, really want to write a great review, but I cannot. Over the past two years I’ve eaten at Bernie’s many times. Each time, the food items vary in quality, whether or not it is hot, their biscuits are either rock hard, or cold, and the flavors(except for the fried potatoes) are never the same as the last time. I don’t think management has a handle on their training of wait staff either. Everyone runs around in a flurry, but the service to the customers is extremely slow. More than once it has taken 30+ minutes just to get someone at our table. Twice, we’ve gotten up & left after no one came to our table after 30 minutes. This is a shame. Bernie’s décor, and feel of the diner is fabulous. Sadly, the service and food are not.

If you’re looking for great southern style food in Montana, this is it! I tried to find a reason not to give this place 5 stars, but I couldn’t. The atmosphere is great, the staff is super cute and on point, and the food is outstanding. We had the shrimp n grits and chicken n waffles. Oh my goodness! To. Die. For!

I had the heuvos Rancheros and it was excellent. The peanut butter and oreo milkshake was amazing. It was clean and bright and very peaceful. Our waitress, hostess, and other staff were incredibly friendly and helpful I highly recommend this fine establishment

Service was really good. I had the cheesy grits with eggs and shrimp. Not impressed. The grits had cheese in them? The shrimp was real good. Maybe it just wasn’t my thing. The menu looked good so probably the other items would be better. I was stepping out my box.

Loved it and the food was great. The coffee mugs are huge and we all want to take them home. Sadly the $ 22 price for a mug is way over the limit for me. Seems a bit steep when you know they are large while mugs with a logo. Sorry, won’t be taking home a mug yet will recommend the food and the décor to all!

I was really disappointed in Bernie’s. We were visiting Billings from Nevada and were looking for something unique and delicious. With their selection of gourmet waffles and pancakes we knew Bernie’s would deliver. We arrived and were told it would be about 5 or 10 min for a table, that turned into 25 min. Once seated it took quite a long time to get coffee. After looking at the menu we decided on some of their savory waffles and pancakes. Upon ordering we were told that they were all out of pancake batter because of the holiday weekend and no delivery truck. We steeled for the bison burrito and the chicken fried steak. It took 90 min for our food to come out to us and it was so-so. My husband enjoyed his bison burrito but I felt the chicken fried steak was ok. The gravy was bland and the chicken fried steak was too thick and very tough & dry. Definitely not what we were hoping for. When I asked our server what ingredient they were missing to make the batter(I was intensely curious) he informed me they had the ingredients, they were just so busy that there was no one to make the batter. Oy.

This place is pretty fabulous and because the price is so reasonable and the service is top notch I had to give 5 stars. The meals: Breakfast burrito with bison — yes bison. The sour cream and salsa are served on the side(can add to taste and the salsa was yummy fresh). The black beans were not saucy which I loved and they swapped in egg whites for me. The fruit on the side was fresh as well. The Ranch breakfast which starred stellar sausage gravy and fluffy biscuits. The potatoes were also well fried and yummy The service was friendly, food came quick, coffee refills were free and fast. Overall $ 25 for 2 to have this quality breakfast is an awesome day.

Cute place — very clean, a «diner-diva» vibe, adorable little countertop eating area and nice higher-end nods. I had a ½ BLT and some sweet potato fries. The presentation was great! The BLT was good, but not mind altering — the bacon was a little overdone for my tastes — but the sweet potato fries were delicious! There was a hint of vanilla there and I could imagine this recipe in a more upscale joint with a balsamic reduction. Not the ‘exact’ fries but the flavor of the fries with a more rustic cut. I liked it and I would stop in again.

This place has some huge staffing issues. The wait staff is running ragged and the cook staff doesn’t know how to cook an egg. The wait for food is so long and then they bring you raw eggs, how did it take so long to NOT cook the food? At my last visit the eggs were still clear they were so raw and I did not even get an apology.

Pancakes infused with bacon and sausage, with butter on top! Good food and great service. Ask for Angel, she’ll get your order out with a smile! Good times had by all!

Ate breakfast here twice while staying at the Northern. It’s a cute little diner, friendly service, and great coffee served in a huge cup. But the food? Between the 2 of us, we tried 4 meals over 2 days, and honestly, it’s just ok. Tried the Croque Monsiuer, and it was all right, but the egg was too runny and the sandwich was kind of cold w/cheese not melted, and potatoes tasted like the frozen variety. Huevos rancheros — ok, but flavors were strange, and tortilla was really tough. Denver skillet and eggs Benedict — same; just ok(tasted like the same ingredients from the day before, just reassembled). If I came back, think I might just go for the fresh fruit or yogurt parfait — it looked pretty good. The place does have a lively, bustling vibe, though, especially on the weekends.
