We ordered the medium«Neoclassic» pizza but with whole wheat crust. The standard toppings with this pizza are pesto, onions, pine nuts, roma tomatos, feta cheese, and parsley. I think it would have been better with their white crust, as the crust was a little hard. The ingredients seemed good and the overall effect of the pizza was good, but not excellent. The toppings weren’t a generous portion either. For the price, $ 20(not including tax), I felt it should be excellent. Overpriced. In the end, we ended up putting hummus on our pizza – to great effect. It made the pizza tastier and made up for the hard crust. Also, got some more protein. The delivery guy, incidentally, was very chipper and professional. And, the delivery happened pretty quickly as they promised. I would be willing to try this place again to see if I’m more impressed with a pizza with white crust. Also, I think I want to try in-store dining, since other reviewers seem to like the experience.

A must for pizza in the Birmingham area! You can’t beat the setting and laid back feeling of Dave’s. The pizza is delicious and always fresh and the crust is the best! You can tell the ingredients are high quality and that makes all the difference. Service is friendly and quick and the servers are always there when you need them for refilling a drink, asking a question, or getting the check. Sadly I don’t live in the area anymore so I don’t get to eat here as often as I want but a must have every time I travel home. I’ll be back in a couple months and I’m already looking forward to a large pepperoni and pineapple pizza!

When my parents came to visit a couple of weeks ago, they had a craving for pizza. I thought about taking them to Slice or Post Office Pies, but opted for something that was easier on their wallet but still just as good. Although I wouldn’t compare it to either of those restaurants, I still enjoyed the pizza. We opted for the meat lovers option and the large was more than enough for the both of us. Although the pizza was good, it really wasn’t anything special. The service was also pretty lacking as well. The server seem distracted, rushed us throughout our meal, wouldn’t offer any recommendations, and was practically non-existent for the entirety of our visit. Although my parents and brother loved it, I won’t be back and will be taking them to try Slice next time they visit.

My review is for Dave’s as an event venue on a Monday night in nice weather on the courtyard: I organized an event that was held here last night(on an otherwise slow Monday night). It was an excellent place for our event with excellent service from our main server Sydney. The event was a mix-and-mingle event that ended up having about 30-something attend. The manager on duty Audrey allowed us to reserve the back courtyard where we were allowed to organize and move tables and chairs to our satisfaction– and Sydney and another server helped us do it. Sydney and a male server whose name I am embarrassed I did not catch, had very quick turn arounds for drink orders, with frosted mugs landing in hands only short minutes after each order. Many of the people in our group had never been to Dave’s and I am certain many will now return. Sydney’s attention to everyone really made a big impression as compared to some other venues we’ve used. Afterward about half of the attendees stayed for supper– one of our highest percentage rates of transition from happy hour time to supper of any event space yet. Sydney and the other attentive server made the transition to a long table in the covered patio smooth and quick. All I heard from people as they ate their pizza was how good it was. My only slightly negative feedback to Dave’s is as I called the first time and 2 times afterward to follow up and update our RSVP numbers, talking to different of the 3 managers each time, was that a couple of times the managers sounded bothered by my calls, especially the first time. After my initial conversation I honestly thought about calling back and cancelling and picking a different venue. We do these events on Mondays because local/non-chain restaurants are usually very happy to have a boost to their numbers that night. But I knew my past experiences at Dave’s did not match that impression, so I stayed the course. And I am glad I did. So I guess the take-aways are that Dave’s is a great place for a courtyard event when the weather is pleasant(as it was last night), at least one manager(I don’t know which one) has abrasive phone etiquette, the pizza is delicious, and the service at Dave’s is outstanding. I highly recommend and am giving them 5 stars for nice-weather, outdoor, Monday night event space.

The restaurant is in a cool area of town and I had a lot of expectations for this place since I am a big pizza lover, but I was let down. After reading reviews, I went to the lunch buffet. There were about 4 pizzas set out near the cash register, which is in a separate room from the dining area as not as quick/easy to get to as you’d expect. The pizzas were just okay, nothing great and nothing I would crave. They are left out and since there is not much of a rush as there are at other pizzas buffets I’ve been to in the past, the pizzas stay out for a while and are usually cold unless you grab some slices as soon as a fresh pizza is put out. The crust at the end of each slice was way too thick and chewy, like eating thick, plain bread without any flavoring. The sauce and cheese were also nothing special. The other issue I have with this restaurant is the accessibility. The dining area is about 1 foot higher than everything else so if you or someone you know has a wheelchair, you are out of luck. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place.

Great covered outdoor atmosphere, delicious pizza, and great service. Great place to bring your friends and watch a game while enjoying handmade pizza and beer! Great job Daves!

This pizza is great, second only to Post Office in the local Bham area. Lots of options, several sizes, plus sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. Patio seating when the weather is nice. Service was ok, a little bit slow getting the food out, but the quality was superb.

I was initially going to just get a pizza to go and have that for lunch, but after taking a look at the four pies that were out for the all-you-can-eat lunch, I opted to skip the pizza and dig in. Good crunchy crust, lots of toppings, plenty of flavor. This was a hit! You’ll experience different varieties than I did, but I was able to sample a pepperoni & sausage, pepperoni & green peppers and a chicken barbecue. All would have been excellent on their own, and were better for being able to have a bit from each one. Self-service on paper plates. So what? I like paying $ 10 for decent ‘za and leaving with a full tummy. Parking is a big pain here. Find the entrance to the parking deck!

Ordered delivery from Dave’s on Saturday to eat while watching the Mayweather fight. We ordered 1XLBBQ Chicken Pizza and Cheese Bread. The Total was $ 41. The taste of the pizza was good and there was nothing wrong with the Cheese Bread, but like the fight it was not worth the money. My biggest complaint was that the toppings and Cheese stopped 3 – 4 inches away from the edge of the crust. The crust tasted good, but you charged me $ 41 and cheated me on toppings.

Here on business and ordered a pizza, take out. Sauce was overly rich and a bit thick, as if made primarily from canned tomato paste with added seasoning. Crust was decent, but nothing to write home about. I wouldn’t order again. Decent, but not GOOD!

We went to Dave’s a couple of weeks ago for the first time in a while. I had only been for lunch before, and it was always pretty good. This last experience was not the best. But not enough to deter us from trying again. Starting out, it was a Friday night. So of course it was packed. But we were seated very quickly. Maybe its my old age, but the music was too loud for us to even really talk. We ordered the pizza and the flavor and crust were outstanding. But when it came out, it was a little cold. But the taste of it was the saving grace. I tend to think we were a rare case that night since it was crowded. After reading the reviews, it sounds like I should try a few other things on the menu. I will hopefully have an improved, updated review after my next trip.

We love Dave’s. It could be that we can walk here, bring our dog, or that we love the pizza. Any one of those reasons would make for an great place but combined makes for an awesome sauce place. We usually get mozzarella sticks, a large pizza half pepperoni half cheese, and if we walked a pitcher of beer. Occasionally we will get the Sweet Tang aka BBQ Chicken Pizza and it does not disappoint. They also deliver and are honest about how long it will take. A rare and beautiful quality.

Dave, if you want to close for a private party, turn off the neon«open sign» and put up a sign saying your closed for the night. It’s a wee bit irksome to park, walk a block, get into the store and be greeted with«are you here for party? We’re not open to the public.» Seriously, a sheet of paper and a marker goes a long way.

The dinning experience has changed over the past few years for the better(in my opinion). The addition of some extra TV’s, a smattering of some laid back live entertainment and the continuing evolution of the pizza menu keeps this place relevant and relaxed. The place is good year round, but if you want the best experience pick a day in the 70 – 80’s with a slight breeze. You’ll never want to leave. For people with pizza commitment issues, head over during the lunch buffet to get a sampling of their excellent pies.

I really enjoy their food– the pizza is really great. I really enjoy the Hot Chick and the Pollo Pesto. I know this is insane, but I’m knocking 2 stars off of their rating for the following reasons: 1. They charge 25 cents for a glass of water. Seriously?! I’ve been to $ 100/plate restaurants where TAPWATER is complimentary. My party of five people left the restaurant our server told us they’d be charging for tap water. Ludicrous. 2. Their draft beer system has been broken for at least 2 weeks now. Unacceptable, according to this draft-lover. Get it together Dave’s! Don’t let the small things ruin your otherwise great restaurant!

I do not recommend this place. We came in for lunch on a Sunday because we wanted to go to a local business instead of the chain across the street. They don’t serve iced tea, which is strange in the South. Then we ordered one of their signature dishes(their chicken salad), and they were out of it. When you have just opened for the day, being out of one of the dishes you brag most about by 12:30 is pretty lousy. My recommendation is to pass on this place.

I love the décor and vibe of this place. The chandeliers give it a classy edge. They have good beer and/or wine specials depending on what day of the week it is. They have plenty of TVs and, even though almost all of the seating is outside, there are enough plastic walls and heaters to keep you warm. I’ve never had a pizza there that I didn’t love, but I did have the olive tamponade recently and it was very salty.

I ordered a jumbo-size half-Hot Chick and half-Sweet Tang for a little more than $ 30. The slices are humongous so one will be enough to take you out if you’re a girl. The flavors were delicious and they don’t gimp out on flavor. The Sweet Tang is basically sweet BBQ chicken in a pizza. It was the winner on this plate and I was really happy going through it. The loser for me was the Hot Chick. Don’t listen to the people working there. The Hot Chick is spicier than what they claim. I thought me being Asian and handling ‘mild’ back in California, that this would have nothing on me but it did. You better have a lot of water or a quart of milk next to you when you eat this. I also got diarrhea after eating half of this slice. On the plus side, it makes you feel like a new person after the episode and you’re not left with a food coma. Refrigerator Test: After 3 days of sitting in the refrigerator the spiciness flavor lingers but I’m not sweating anymore! Make sure you supplement each bite with the ranch dressing they graciously provide!
