The BEST blueberry pancakes in the world!!! Yes, the world. So, tart and just plain delicious. I don’t even like pancakes. My husband ordered them. We came here for lunch also and thought my sandwich was good. But VERY huge and filling. I hope it’s really not closed!

This is a great place to eat in a relaxed setting. Fresh, well-prepared food with lots of flavor. The sweet potato scramble is filling and delicious. I recently tried the dinner menu and was very pleased as well.

i used to eat here often with a friend that was strictly organic. unfortunately she moved to texas and i rarely go here anymore alone… i loved ordering their breakfast sandwich called«here comes the judge»,. it comes on toasted sourdough with tomatoes, egg, cheese and fresh organic canadian bacon. its the shit! jaime used to order pancakes of different varieties and an omelete call«the aristocrat» that was infused with pancake batter and i believe had gouda and either apples or pears. it was delicious. just writing this review makes me want to go again this weekend. i’ve never been there for later meals, always brunch. so i can’t really give a good review on it. p. s. order aztek cakes even if they don’t come with your order love, juston

The Maple Leaf Café is excellent. I can’t remember what it was called the last time I was there but I got this AMAZING pear and cheese omelet that is fantastic. It’s actually so good I haven’t bothered to try anything else but sometimes I get it and it’s over done so I have to send it back.(like burnt!) But besides that, the food is fresh, it’s organic and the service is quick and friendly. the wait can be pretty long on the weekends the later you go but it’s definitely worth the wait.

My boyfriend and I each greatly enjoyed our unique breakfasts at Maple Leaf Café. I had the sweet potato scrambler and he had the Apache. Both were delicious. Being slightly hungover, I was craving a Diet Coke — I had the organic version, whatever it was called, and it was really good! Give it a try if you can. Service was excellent. We just missed a long line when we came in and got seated right away. But, you may want to be prepared to wait a bit. The restaurant isn’t that big. If I didn’t live in Chicago, I’d be back often!

This restaurant is not overpriced in the least. Organic costs more. And it’s 100% worth it. I’ve been dying to try out this place since it opened but wasn’t able to get there until just last week, when I came in for lunch. I was solo dining, which doesn’t faze me in my old age, but the waitress was so sweet and got me a few magazines to bide my time and keep me company, LOL. Food is really good. Like I’ve mentioned before, I’m a crab-cake sucker so I got the sandwich… I was dubious at first but the cakes are moist and flavorful and the guac is sooo yummy. The sweet potato fries are a must-have, IMO, and the ketchup is organic, what a bonus. Top it off with a lemonade(not fresh-squeezed, didn’t ask if it was organic) and you have one contented Unilocaler.

Stumbled upon the Maple Leaf Café yesterday. What a nice little surprise in Birmingham. Glad to have a unique spot for breakfast and lunch. There are so many things on the menu that I look forward to trying. The chicken salad sandwich with dried cherries was very tasty. Charming little space. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices. Will definitely be back.

YUM. Honestly, that’s all I had to say. I guess you could complain about food being too expensive, but, honestly, you get what you pay for. And what you get here is a generous serving of delicious food that perfects the concept of a «twist on the original.» Lemon-blueberry pancakes? Yum. Gold medal grilled cheese? AMAZING. Anything with eggs? Incredible.(Try the sweet potato scramble with havarti cheese and bacon – it’s straight-up amazing! I keep ordering it despite the fact that there are so many other things on the menu to try just because I love it so much.)

I recently dined at the Maple Leaf Café with fellow Unilocaler Henry B. based on other Unilocal recommendations. I’m glad I found this spot! The workers/owner: I always enjoy the opportunity to sit down with the owner of a restaurant I eat at for the first time. George, the owner of the MLC is a friendly guy who loves talking about his restaurant, and why shouldn’t he be. The food and service deliver. Our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful which is always a plus in my book. Gave great recommendations to two guys having a hard time deciding between so many great options. Henry got a turkey sandwich, I ordered a burger with thick bacon and real blue cheese. As a bonus we received a complimentary dessert: VOODOOFRENCHTOAST — Skewers of challa bread in a rich New Orleans style batter of yogurt, honey, egg, and vanilla, dusted in toasted coconut and accompanied by a fruit cobbler. Was very tasty! I highly recommend anyone interested in a great meal to check this place out.

Heyo! I went here to meet up with fellow Unilocaler Dave B. We went here after a quick recommendation from other Unilocalers in the area. They’re known for using fresh organic ingredients. Their signature plates usually have sandwiches or breakfast items. I had the Lennon’s Last Stand Sandwich — Oven roasted turkey breast, sharp cheddar, guacamole, tomato, and a honey jalapeño mustard, on a grilled multi-grain bread. They didn’t have Diet Coke so I had Virgil’s Diet Real Soda. Tip #1: Upgrade to the sweet potato fries. They are astounding. Tip #2: Don’t worry about their ingredients. They use fresh and raw ingredients. You’ll see it in some of my photos. Tip #3: Order their desserts. They’re not typical and they are amazingly detailed. A note from Jeffery A. «I actually know that they roast the turkey there and they cut the turkey there as well. It is not pressed. I know this because the Lennon’s Last Stand is named after my friend, Lennon Caruso, who owns Caruso Caruso, which is also in downtown Birmingham.» Photos at:

This place boasts great food for a great value. It’s all organic, too! I spent 9 dollars on a massive tuna sandwich, sweet potato fries, and a cup of a vegetable soup. I left with a large takeaway box. The meal was too big, but the price didn’t reflect that. Quick and friendly service. Give it a try!

I am biased. I’ve been eating her on average 4x a month since it opened but there’s a reason I’ve remained a loyal customer. Food and service. The staff is wonderful. Some of the best coffee I’ve had. Fairly consistent too which seems to be rare. I get the same things for breakfast — omlettes but I vary the ingredients with dried whole-grain toast. Have I had other breakfast items? Yep. Are they good? Yep. Give the blueberry-lemon panckaes or the carrott cake pancakes a whirl. Can’t miss on the homemade preserves either — yum. Lunch? Yep. Very good as well. Prices are a bit high but hey, you’re supporting a good local business who specialize in regional and organic ingredients.

Yum! If you’re looking for a high-end breakfast place to pair with your high-end shopping, then Maple Leaf in Birmingham is the place to go. I’m a bacon-fanatic, so I thoroughly enjoy their thick and juicy bacon(with lots o’ syrup!). Pancakes made from scratch, of course, and are definitely enticing. Their jelly is also made from scratch! Expect prices higher than your standard Denny’s, but it’s definitely a treat. I have yet to try the Lunch menu, but I also here it is pretty excellent.

Be sure this place doesn’t get lost in the Birmingham-food shuffle: it’s a gem. Featuring fare of the all natural & organic sorts, its dishes are unique, made with high-quality, fresh ingredients and reasonably priced. Sadly, I think it’s lost on the Birmingham lunch time biz crowd but weekend warriors seem to be in the know as it was packed this weekend going into the afternoon hours. Still, we didn’t have to wait long for a table. Many people may go for the breakfast, which is good. I prefer some of their sandwiches and a co-worker of mine swears by the 5-Star Meatloaf. Also, I can’t over emphasize how much I appreciate a good lemonade and this place delivers. I tried the Hippie Hash, a vegetarian smörgsbord of veggies, cheese and potatoes but it didn’t come close to measuring up to the original invention at Ann Arbor’s Fleetwood Diner. Too bad. Despite the hash, a great spot for breakfast or lunch.

I passed up going to lunch at Olga’s for a third time during my stay in Troy to check this place out. I had to, when I found out the owner’s wife is a Seaholm alum. Go Maples! It is easy to miss if you are driving by; only the name in the window gives this place away. Inside, it is a bit like a diner, with old black and white pictures of Birmingham scenes. No pictures of its namesake though. The menu is enticing. They boast that they use only all natural and organic ingredients. You won’t find any blue, pink or yellow packs of sugar on the tables either. After going back and forth between the grilled cheese and the lemon pancakes topped with organic blueberries I chose the Gold Medal Grilled Cheese. It wasn’t what I expected. It was more of a toasted cheese sandwich on thick-cut challah bread. It was pretty fancy– — provolone, Gruyère, feta, spinach leaves, almonds, red onions and lemon aioli. It was good, but hard to get my mouth around because it was so thick. The cheese was not melted(as on a grilled cheese) and did not spread to the edges, so a good portion of the sandwich was crust, which neither I nor my niece ate. This being said, I would return, but only for breakfast. I’ll be sure to have the Lemon and Blueberry pancakes for sure.

I’m a brunch fanatic. My love affair with brunch began with the family tradition of «breakfast for dinner» every Sunday. So lets just say I’m a fan of breakfast! If I lived in the Birmingham area, the Maple Leaf Café would definitely be one of my «regular» spots. Here’s why: 1) The food is fresh, original, tasty and actually good for you(for the most part) 2) The service is fast and friendly. I told our waitress we had somewhere to be in an hour, and we were served right away. 3) The location is great, right in uptown Birmingham near all of the shops and restaurants. We found easy parking right in front at a one hour meter. 4) Its the perfect place to meet your friends, meet for a networking breakfast or lunch, go on a date, go by yourself, bring your kids, anything goes. 5) There are so many choices on the menu, you can keep going back to order something different. I ordered breakfast … of course! We got coffee right away, which I appreciated given my affinity for caffeine. After much rumination, I chose the Voodoo French Toast, which tasted amazing and looked whimsical when it came out. They use this vanilla custard sauce, along with a spicy-sweet fruit compote(the compote I had was comprised of apples, cranberries and a mango sauce with granola on top). I’ve had challah french toast before, but not like this! I could definitely taste the New Orleans influence with the spices, coconut and sauce. I also ordered bacon, which was thick and lots of meat(not too much fat). The only thing that I would have done differently is to make the bacon crispier(I like my bacon crispy almost to the point of being burned). A way to get around that is to ask folks when they order bacon whether they like it crispy or not(I forgot to specify). I thought the portions were huge too… My Mom ordered the Sweet Potato Pancakes which were fluffy and light, yet filling. She also ordered the turkey sausage, which had a good consistency and nice spices. She exclaimed after eating her meal that the pancakes were«out of this world.» I had a bite, and all I can say is mmmmm! These were just right. Moist and not too sweet. What a great way to get a lot of nutrients(from the sweet potatoes) while eating a treat. The fresh whipped cream on top was a nice touch. Overall, this place was a treat. I’ll be back!

Excellent new spot in Birmingham. This restaurant adds a new flare to some traditional foods. The restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch only from 8:00AM — 3:00PM. The menu is entirely organic and especially caters to vegetarians and vegans. We tried the grilled cheese which was made on thick rye bread with a couple different types of cheese and we tried the tuna melt and both were FANTASTIC! The tuna melt is made with American cheese and pineapple chunks which add a unique but yummy taste. The inside is not much to look at and the service a little slow but the place is still very new. The food has been amazing every time I have been there so far.
