Cavs has been a lesser frequented spot for but definitely a place I’ve been going literally since before I could remember. See, I was born premature, I needed round the clock attention much like now and I had an au-pare(fancy word for a live in nanny) anyway, he worked at the time for the nearby Claire Rose, naturally he had and still has an infinity for Cavanaughs and why not? I’ve seen pics of me as a young tyke with a bud light can and a green Cavs sign in the background more than once, so you could sorta say I was raised a bit here. I went today and realized that after every storm, I’ve gone to none other than Cavanaughs. What a great place to seek shelter though. Warm, inviting, and open! A dark, Irish, hometown feelin’, sports pub with good grub. When I go here I stick to the basics, and the basics for me are their wings, and burgers. So the wings come out crispy every time, sitting in a bit of buffalo flavored oil nothing too spicy. The burger is cooked how you order it and is more than sufficient for the price, I dig the bun and the broil I the burger, I just don’t believe lettuce and tomato should be an additional fee, however they do include onion and fries! Get the waffle fries(spicy or not, same difference) The French onion soup is good but it’s always been too sweet… A darkened sugared broth that needs more onion, and maybe even more bread, but I still order it from time to time. Service is good and they show every football game on Sunday. Sunday is two for one wings and they have daily specials to follow suit. Check them out when yer in the mood for that good, local, hole-in-the-wall, hometown favorite.

It was getting late on a Sunday night and football was over, we were hungry and had not thought ahead. We took a ride and stopped into Cavanaugh’s, thrilled to find out that the kitchen was open till 11pm. I had been in the bar many times and had appetizers and snacks at the bar but it had been a while. I had not had a sit down dinner so this would be a first. To say that we were pleasantly surprised would be a massive understatement! We started off with some wings, these were not the little ones you usually get but big nice meaty wings. I don’t like HOTHOT so the standard house wing dressing was great. My wife ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger with Sweat Potato Fries and I got a Cheesesteak with regular Fries. Everything was cooked to perfection, the fries were crisp and had that crunch you look for the burger was perfectly cooked and the bacon was crisp and cruchy. The Cheesesteak was awesome not a bunch of slim jims on a roll but a nice cut of steak with cheese, onions and peppers. To wash it down we had a few Stella’s and even tried an desert. I found the entire experience to be great, the food was wonderful the waiter was attentive and friendly, the bartender even came over to apologize for the noise at the bar(we never noticed), to find such a great meal at the last minute late on a Sunday night was wonderful. We will be regulars!

Ok… there might be better steaks out there, or better burgers, or so on… but THIS is the place to be if you just need to kick back, tuck in to some good, solid grub, and be served with a smile. It’s a neighborhood place, that feels«family run» and welcoming. The kind of place that makes you want to go back to… I’m not saying the food’s not good — it IS. They cook up a nice steak, burger, and a VERY nice Shepherd’s Pie. Good thing it’s not just around the corner from me, though — I’d probably spend more time there than the wife would appreciate :)

Great spot! Was in the area, and stopped in for a quick bite, and was really surprised on how much I liked Cav’s. The décor is TV monitors, sports and beer memorabilia, or what I hope heaven looks like, but with great deer hunting out the back door! But let’s get back to Cav’s review. The food was on point. We went with a grilled corned beef Reuben and potato salad, and a Philly Cheese Steak with sweet potato fries. The meats were piled high and thick. The corned beef was excellent, lean and tasty. The steak was so tender, and real steak too, no steak-um type meat here. The potato salad was tasted good but was a little too creamy for my liking. The sweet potato fires were perfect. Crunchy with sweet and moist centers. I’m looking forward to my next visit! Cheers

Local favorite. Gluten free items. Burgers, sandwiches and pub fare. Any way you like your food tell them and they will do the best. Nice bar, lots of tvs with all games and a large back room. We went on July 4th weekend and we had the place to ourselves. Normally we have to wait for a table.

I came in here the day before a holiday with my fiancé; the place was packed… and I mean packed. Line out the door with at least 40 people standing at the bar. At times like this you expect a bar/restaurant to start to have issues. …Not at this place. The manager was organized and in charge like a ship captain and greeted us warmly then got us on a list among the massive crowd and urged us to grab a cocktail while we waited. The bartender with a large thirsty crowd to handle was fast, friendly and attentive to us. We were three people deep in the crowd and still got served… twice. 20 minutes later as promised on the dot the manager graciously let my fiancé know our table was ready and escorted us to the spot through the crowd rather than just yell our names out, very cool. Our server was also great. Our food was awesome. It’s a simple menu with prices that are reasonable. I had their daily special on a Saturday that was Half a Rack of Ribs, A marinated Pork Chop, a Bratwurst, with choice of potato and creamed spinach for 15.95. It was a huge amount of food… and I loved every bite. Whoever is doing their marinade deserves an award. It’s a local no frills joint, but now I understand why it is packed. Drop in to watch the game or a great meal. If there is a huge crowd, just relax, they got you covered.

Cav’s is one of my favorite places to go when I’m in a mood for a nice, juicy burger. They’re always cooked to perfection and dripping with delectable juices that soak just a little into the bun. I think I get the coleslaw as a side usually, but by the time I’m done eating the other half of the burger I said I «wouldn’t eat» in the beginning, I’m too full to mess around with sides. I’ve come here for prime rib night also, which I think is on Wednesday’s? Thursday’s? One of the two. They serve up prime rib for $ 14.99 and it’s sooo good! Definitely worth a try! They’re chicken wings are also pretty damn delicious, and on Sunday’s they’re 25 or 50 cents a wing. When you walk in, it’s a small looking place but they do have additional seating in the back, and the bar seems to always be packed with regluars. The only thing that I don’t like about this place is the beer selection. I admit I’m a beer snob so I enjoy craft beers. They have the run of the mill domestic selection, and Bass on tap. I usually go with a black and tan when I’m here and call it a day.

Don’t be fooled into thinking this is just another local bar. The food is top notch and the service is friendly and accommodating. I can’t believe I have lived in this area for 45 years and I just went for my first time. I have a lot of making up to do!

Cavanaugh’s is a rarity in today’s world of souless corporate restaurants … it is a local neighborhood pub and restaurant. The type of place you bring your kid after the big playoff game, music recital or on their birthday. It’s the type of place you run into your friends and neighbors. A place where everyone is laughing and smiling and forgetting about the outside world for a while over good food and good conversation. If I were shooting a movie or sitcom about a hometown restaurant/pub, this is the location I’d pick. The atmosphere here is great … it’s broken in and comfortable but it feels clean and maintained. On the walls are sports jersies from the local teams and local photos and newspaper clippings. The front room has a long bar and some tables and the rear room is a bigger dining room with several tables. I believe they serve dinner or lunch making the bar the perfect place to come after a round of golf in the afternoon or to watch the playoff game at night. The dining room would be a great place for a family to eat … while it has that great warm ‘buzz’ at dinner, it is not too loud to enjoy your meal and conversation at the table. The food here is great and the portions big. Everything is good quality and you can tell by tasting the food that no corners have been cut in its prep. It is pub type food but they make a damn good steak and have a little something for everyone on the extensive menu. My favorite would be the ‘Irish Nachos’, which are seasoned waffle fries loaded with cheese and served with sour cream and salsa on the side. Next up will be the Shepherd’s Pie. A friend of mine had the T-Bone steak and it looked as thick as some of the NYC steakhouses I’ve been to! I’ve also been told that the French Onion soup is ‘the best ever’ by more than one person who has had it. The family that owns the restaurant are well known in town and the owner, Chris always makes the time to stop by and see how everyone’s meal was. The waitstaff seem to have been working here for quite some time, which is a rare thing in the restaurant business these days and their knowledge of the menu and happiness to be working there are apparent in the way they interact with customers. Our waitress was great … always smiling but making an occasional fun joke and cracking everyone up. If you are looking for great food in a fun environment, look no further than Cavanaugh’s. This seems like an easy place to become a regular at. While lots of new restaurants pop up and then pop out in small towns and lots of corporate chains are opening all over Long Island, Cavanagh’s has been in business for a long time for a reason. This is the real deal when it comes to a true neighborhood joint. Thanks for a great meal!

Absolutely love Cavanaughs! Been coming here ever since I was a kid. Great food, great drinks and even better people. Mr Cavanaugh and his employees work hard to make insure that every single Customer is having a great night. He even goes to every table, interacts and introduces himself. Now that’s how a true owner should be. Can’t wait to stop in tonight!!!

Went for lunch during the week. Seems like a good hang out spot for a after work beer. Food took forever to come out and wasn’t right the first time. And the service wasn’t good.

If your looking for a good time and great food this place is the best! They have a good selection of beer on tap and plenty of bottled beer. The food is great too and the prices won’t hurt your wallet. They are always running specials and two ford on wings on Sunday is great for football games.

Great pub! Very«feel good» vibe when I went to Cavanaugh’s; I immediately felt at home. The moon burger was great, it had mozzerella and mushrooms(my favorite)! The best part about this bar is the monthly beer specials. This month is Land Shark, which is wonderful news, but I can’t wait until June for shock top pints at $ 2.50!!! Good prices, excellent service… Going again tonight for St. Patrick’s day!

Cavanaugh’s is a great little pub. The bartenders are witty, the food is cheap and tasty, and the patrons are lively. It’s a locals spot, so expect folks to know each other by name, though anyone is welcome. They have great beer specials too, which rotate by day and month.

This is a local favorite. It’s always crowded, especially the bar. Lots of regulars who come for the beer and to meet neighborhood friends. I’m giving it 3 stars for the food. It’s fine for ordering hamburgers, fries, and old Irish favorites like beef stew. Other than that the food is just mediocre. On a recent visit, and we’ve been here 6 or 7 times in the last 10 years, we were disappointed in the meal. The chili was a thick clump of fried chopped beef with a very small amount of beans and almost no liquid. My corned-beef reuben wasn’t much better with a fatty cut of meat and bread that was too-greasy. Potato salad was good but the cole slaw was swimming in mayonnaise. My husband had the chili also, which he could not eat. His fish and chips were fine, with a generous portion of fish. So, in summary, it’s a neighborhood bar with friendly locals who love the place, and just mediocre food. If you like beer, hamburgers and fries, then give it an extra star! As far as I’m concerned, I’ll wait another year or two before I give it another try!

Grabbed a couple pints on St. Patty’s Day here. Nice Irish Pub, they do buy backs and make a tasty Half & half ;) Bar staff was good too. Would like to try their food next time. They have dining in the bar room as well as in the back if you don’t want any bar noise.

I love coming here for lunch! The menu is extensive and delicious. The best burgers I have ever had and a wonderful specials menu that changes often. I would come here with my family often for lunch and usually on triple crown race days. You can bet and watch the races or the game on their many TV’s, and there is always something for the kids to eat and enjoy. A Saturday on race day(or game day) is well spent. I feel at home when I’m here.

This place is awesome! This is a real Irish pub and it’s always a great time. Beers on tap, great service and I love their wings, but they have lots of other menu options as well. Great burgers, and you must try the Irish nachos. Come for dinner or whatever then just hang out at the bar. If you find yourself out this way do stop in. Lots of cool people and always something going on. You’re sure to have a great time!
