The food here is great and an interesting twist on southern comfort food. The staff are a wonderful bunch of friendly yet slightly snobby hipsters. The food is unique and flavorful. I really enjoy their sandwiches and my wife loves their grit soufflé with pork belly. I’d recommend this place to anyone.

Steak was excellent, but the quantity of horseradish in the potatoes ruined them. Horseradish was a prevalent flavor in both brisket sauces, also. Too much horseradish for the delicious chicken and biscuits to compensate for.

Sweet corn chowder: You make me heart sing. I suspect you’re 2000 calories. Bonez and toast: Don’t knock it until you try it, and if you’re a baby go with a friend who will spread the marrow on your toast for you. It’s a contrasting blend of textures with incredible flavors if you can tone down the visuals.

I went downtown for Sunday brunch. I was interested in their shrimp and grits dish. I grew up in Idaho and in California and had no background in Southern cooking. I was introduced to them at the Delta Café in Portland and during several trips to Indianapolis. Grits are a lot like okra. The people who badmouth them usually have never tried them or they’ve been served bad renditions of them. I noticed the menu said theres were stone-ground grits from the Carolinas. That was a good sign, because stone-ground are far superior to steel-cut. And there are very good grits that come out of North and South Carolina. My server said they came from Palmetto Farms in Galivants Ferry, S.C., which has a great reputation. The dish itself was wonderful. Plump shrimp placed on the grits and surrounded by a piquant red sauce with chunks of tomato and sausage rounds. The spice level of the sauce might scare some people off but it was right where I like it. There were strips of lemon zest and green onion slivers that also added to the flavor. I came in soon after they opened at 9:30 a.m. and there were already a few tables filled. I thought that was a good sign for a place that only opens for breakfast two days a week. The service was fine and workers were attentive. All in all, it was a good experience.

Love me some SLG. Being from Texas, I love the sight and smell of the giant offset smoker on the front patio. Brisket burnt ends are good at on a salad. Brisket platter is just okay but in fairness I’m used to some excellent brisket back in central Texas. I’d love to get a chance to smoke brisket myself on that smoker. Anyway, great cocktails, good beers, good food. Go now. Seriously. Go now.

Food’s good, service still sucks. At 35% off I’ll come back, at full price, not so much.

We called after making an open table reservation for two at 7pm. We arrived 5 minutes early and were told it would be 30 or so minutes. Been there once before for dinner the food was outstanding. The service not so. We were offered a drink while we waited… for a reservation we made and called to confirm. Sad really.

I absolutely loved the atmosphere and you know it’s a good sign when 1950’s soul music is playing. However, it is quite presumptuous to not have any salt or pepper on the tables. The flavor in your food better back up your confidence in not providing salt and pepper. Especially since your biscuits aren’t even made from scratch.

I am sad to report that I have to drop my review stars to three. I pondered putting two but I still really like St. Lawrence. I brought an out of town friend in for some drinks and the young gentleman that seated us was the only nice person working it seemed. Everyone else lacked a smile on their face or «real customer service» which consists of being nice, not just good service. Everyone working was standoffish, quiet, and they just seem to hate their job. While sitting there drinking a signature cocktail I wrote my Unilocal review in my head. After about an hour of not being treated like anything, people started to warm up, joke, interact. I then pondered not writing anything on my review but first impressions are everything. With this being said, I still like the drinks, food, and hipster atmosphere but I don’t appreciate having to walk on egg shells with the people that are working there. My friend and I left satisfied but our end conversation was about that coldness of our servers and why couldn’t they just be warm from the start? Why did it take an hour?

Coming to the end of my trip. Asked what we NEED to try before we leave. This was right up there with fork. I saw the brisket plate and could not say no to that. The brisket platter blew my socks off! It’s smoky and savory, melts in your mouth, can’t get enough! If this was the only thing they served they would do just fine! We also had their Mac and cheese which was also perfectly balanced. Who ever they have as their chef they should pay them more because he or she is the reason everyone is talking about this place. The vibe is like most of the places in DTB very hipster. They have a nice outdoor dinning patio with a good view of the capital. Only thing I would of liked was a copper cup for my Moscow mule.

American comfort food with a wonderful modern twist. The burrata and radish appetizer is fresh and unique, and the classics(cornbread, pulled pork) are done with both a nod to their roots, and a nod to new perspective. I could eat the panzenella salad with brisket ends every day of my life. The cocktail list boasts one of Boise’s few well made sazeracs, and the wine list has something for everyone. Great vibe, with the smell of smoking meat wafting over diners. When Gridiron is having a great night, I wouldn’t hesitate giving 4 stars — the only reason I’m giving three stars is consistency. When they’re off, it can be mediocre. Small kitchen, big ideas… probably just growing pains.

Food and beer game strong. Hipster game stronger. Felt like I wanted to come back soon to eat, but maybe I’m an unwanted guest. I better wait.

Saint Lawrence Gridiron pairs classically creative craft cocktails and comfort food with an adroitness that commands respect. Came here with friends to celebrate their anniversary and so, of course, the first order of the evening was for celebratory cocktails. I ordered their Boulevardier, which is the fetching and always enticing cousin to the illustrious negroni. Substitute negroni’s gin for bourbon and the jazz age darling of a cocktail is swirling in your glass. A cocktail that if done well is divine, and if done poorly leaves a flavor too Campari precocious and bourbon deficient. Fortunately, Saint Lawrence Gridiron does the Boulevardier and does it well. This spirit forward cocktail will leave your head humming and your toes tingling in the loveliest of ways. Next, came appetizers. Our dining companions ordered the wings while my main dining companion and I opted for the poutine. Poutine is Idaho meets Canada in one delicious dish. I have had ho-hum poutine and I have had exemplary. Saint Lawrence Gridiron’s interpretation of the dish is by far my favorite. Fries smothered in gravy with the sharp zing of bleu cheese(instead of the more traditional cheese curds), this is not a dish to be trifled with. It was gorgeous and beyond flavorful. A word of warning, though – it is topped with beef – so not a vegetarians delight. For my second cocktail, I had their traditional Old Fashioned. My dining companions found SL Gridiron’s Old Fashioned a little too citrus forward. For my part, I found it to be spot on perfect. But, then again, I like a little orange zestiness in my Old Fashioned. It was rich, lovely, and smooth as Mulberry silk. For my main dish, I ordered their macaroni and cheese. Delicious! It’s not the most creative interpretation, but it was exactly what mac and cheese should be. It’s pasta swimming in cheesy loveliness baked in its own cast iron casserole. What’s not to like? For dessert, my dining companion and I shared their beignets and bread pudding and weren’t wowed by either. The beignets seemed to lack substance and the bread pudding wasn’t terribly memorable. Neither were bad, mind you, but they weren’t fabulous either. The service was friendly but often lagging a bit. We sat on the patio, which may account for that. The patio is protected by buildings on three sides, which is nice. And, on occasion, they show movies out there. Get yourself a cocktail, some poutine, and enjoy the show! Overall, a place I will definitely visit again. And, often. Get to it!

This was strictly a happy hour visit. I wouldn’t have thought to stop here but it turns out Saint Lawrence Gridiron has a great happy hour including $ 3.50 wells, $ 6.00 craft cocktails and $ 2.00 off appetizers(plus a few other items I can’t recall). A stout vodka tonic, the Bees Knees(gin-based cocktail) and a side of fries hardly set us back for the start of happy hour. Service was friendly and prompt. I would like to come back for lunch or dinner.

Updated… second visit: Stopped by last night for drinks and dinner after work. Again, great customer service, greeted at the door. Tried the boiled peanuts and was not a fan. I think they tasted just as they should, but that didn’t do anything for me. Give them a try and decide for yourself. The shrimp and grits, however, were magical. Apparently, so is the hen that laid the poached $ 2 egg that I added to the grits. It was an awesome addition, but a way over priced. I like this place. I will be back I’m sure.

I personally would not elect to eat at Saint Lawrence Gridiron because I don’t eat seafood and I rarely eat meat — that’s about all they have. The vegetarian option looked odd — a roasted beet sandwich with arugula and goat cheese. The waitress recommended it, however, and I do love trying new things. I’m so glad I tried it. The sandwich was DIVINE. I’ve had different variations of beet & goat cheese pasta, but I’ve never had a beet & goat cheese sandwich. Wonderful flavor, and not as heavy as pasta. The arugula was a nice, refreshing touch. I highly recommend this sandwich, even if you’re not a vegetarian. The location of the restaurant is great — right downtown near the Capitol building. The vibe is welcoming and casual. The patio provides a relaxing outdoor experience. The prices were fair and the waitress was friendly. The service was slow but only because the restaurant appeared understaffed. I won’t come back often because there’s only 4 vegetarian options(2 of which are salads — not filling, one is mac & cheese — too filling). But I will come back again for that sandwich!

This was phenomenal food! We were assisted in our choices by Billy, who clearly knows this menu and everything that goes into. His passion for the entrées was infectious, and these plates didn’t disappoint. My partner loved the pork belly soufflé; I had the seared trout, which is definitely the best I’ve had anywhere. The seasonings, the cauliflower, the perfect cut of fish. This is the magical substance of what true foodie dreams are made!!! The Izzy Verde was a delightfully refreshing cocktail, too. We will return, very soon. Bön appetite!

I’ve been waiting to visit for months, and it was definitely worth the wait! Awesome patio seating and delicious food. Sticky wings were awesome, especially with the black sauce. Try the pork belly soufflé. .it is amazing!

I’ve visited St. Lawrence on several occasions, both at lunchtime and for dinner. I’ve found their food to be consistently well prepared, flavorful, and unique in its offerings. They serve a variety of beers to pair with your meal, and the ambiance inside is modern and pleasant. A favorite dish of mine(it may no longer be available, as they rotate featured entrees from time to time) is the Hot Chicken. It’s fried chicken with a spicy batter that’s flavorful and crisp. Love. I will note that at times the service can be a tad bit slow, and that during the winter months I find it necessary to wear a sweatshirt and a couple layers in order to stay comfortable while dining in. But I’m a bit of a wuss when it comes to the cold in general.
