As a bar it’s great. Cider on tap. I wouldn’t order the food. We got the potato skins and sweet potato fries and they weren’t good. Fries were so over cooked they had no potato left inside. The potato skins were just bad. Too much potato left in so the cheese ratio was wrong. Bacon was over cooked more like bacon bits then real bacon. Go for the bar not the food

WORST bar/restaurant I’ve ever been to… Have been coming to Boothbay for years and my dad is from here. Never been to this place and figured we would try something new. Horrible decision. Waiter took our drink order and didn’t come back for at least 20 minutes only to tell us they didn’t have one of the drinks we ordered. Once we finally got all of our drinks(alcoholic) we quickly realized they were horrible. I got a strawberry daiquiri and it was literally all blended ice with a faint taste of strawberry… No liquor. And I am not a drinker so I taste even the slightest amount. My sister got the mango daiquiri and it was also just blended ice with barely anything else. Both of my parents got a margarita on the rocks and they didn’t even know what it was, definitely not a margarita. We ended up bringing our drinks to the bar, and left. Three other parties left while we were there. I am not one to post bad reviews unless it is completely necessary and don’t want others to waste their money. Just don’t bother with this place! We should have known something was up when we noticed no one was inside or outside… There are so many other awesome restaurants in Boothbay Harbor!

One star for the view. Who ever said you can just about fry anything and it tastes good… not. What a disappointment. Nachos could have been made in my microwave and the haddock and chicken tenders were awful. Chicken was hard and fish batter had no taste. The fish was like something from your grocer’s freezer section. Even the fries, completely unseasoned and undercooked. Our service was pleasant but couldn’t make up for the lack luster plates served that day.

Two stars. One for the large beer selection and one for Beth the bartender. We only had steamers to eat. Fresh but undercooked and served cold with watery butter and broth. Have a drink and eat somewhere else.

Well, just left here having waited over an hour and a half for nachos. Was told«someone stole» our nachos? My guess is the undertrained and clearly apathetic bartender forgot to put the order in. Unless there is actually a nacho thief ravaging Boothbay, then I apologize for my critique. Make no mistake, I was not expecting the Ritz, but I was expecting food at some point. Judging by the number of flies I think we made the right choice and 86ed the nachos and went next door to McSeagulls to get what Herringbones was clearly incapable of providing.

My boyfriend & I gave this place a whirl on a recent trip, since I hadn’t been here since it was Knot’s. It was the middle of the week at around 4 o’clock, so much like other restaurants, it was quite dead inside. The menu wasn’t anything outstanding(and rather small) & seemed to offer ordinary dishes, but since other restaurants weren’t quite ready for dinner, we just went with this location. I tried a lobster roll special that they were offering(which was described as a large lobster roll) while my boyfriend got a haddock sandwich. The food came out very quick. His fish sandwich looked alright. Nothing outstanding, but it didn’t look under or overcooked & my boyfriend seemed to like it. The lobster roll I got was indeed quite large, & quite tasty on a toasted roll.(With LOTS of lobster meat) I was pretty happy with that & would order that again. I tried a couple of the house special drinks that they had on their menu, & they were tasty. We proceeded to sit out on the deck afterwards to enjoy the view & to enjoy a couple more drinks, since it was quiet & the deck wasn’t full at all. I do have to say that it’s quite a nice view!(Lots of dirty chairs though.) I will have to give this place another shot when there is something going on, as the room does have room for a small band & frequently has bands or karaōke. The interior itself is nothing special & pretty boring to be quite honest, but I’m sure at night when the place is more full, no one notices or cares. Despite this, I didn’t mind this restaurant at all. The peace & quiet was quite nice, particularly while on the deck. If they had that lobster roll special again(The sandwich was called the«Hummer.» Yes, I’m serious.) I would definitely order it again. It really was a huge roll & they were very generous with the lobster in it.

As a family, we hadn’t been to Boothbay Harbor since 1999. I remembered with great fondness the fabulous, fresh clam chowder we had at Bridge Street Café, longtime harbor-side eatery, and returned there at 2 p.m. for a late lunch. Alas, a true luncheonette, the café had just closed moments before. But the owner directed us to «that new place,» Herringbones, a waterside restaurant with a nice deck looking out over the busy harbor where lobster boats, kayakers, pleasure craft and sailboats dot the deep blue waters. As it was late, we were seated quickly outdoors after passing through a cavernous and mostly empty space punctuated by the most uninteresting bar I’ve ever seen floating in the middle of the room. It was a quintessential Maine July day – sunny, breezy and brisk; perfect for clam chowder and grilled cheese al fresco on the weathered deck in the shadow of an large shade umbrella. The meal arrived in good time but what a disappointment! My son’s two greasy grilled cheese sandwiches featured unmelted American cheese looking like pieces of orange plastic. The fries were greasy and unremarkable. My bowl of clam chowder had all of two small clam pieces amidst the chunks of potato and over-salted, watery broth. The lemonade was super-sweet from a mix. The bill – $ 23.21 for two lemonades(we ordered one), two grilled cheese sandwiches with fries, and one bowl of clam chowder(nine dollars or $ 4.50 per clam). I left a decent 20% tip – it wasn’t the waitress’s fault, which made the entire affair almost $ 30. I would be very surprised if Herringbones is around next time we visit Boothbay Harbor.
