Freedom Trail Run

We participated in a walk through Boston at the freedom trail. It is a nice walk through interesting streets and you pass interesting and old buildings. The trail is marked on the ground so you can’t get lost ;)

Bring your walking shoes! If you’ve never been to Boston, this is an awesome way to see and learn about the history of the city. Just make sure to reserve 4 – 5 hours of your time to explore and not have to rush. In addition, if you’re walking the trail in the summer, be prepared to be hydrated. If you need any type of foods or beverages, there are plenty of stores on your way thru the trail as well.
As for the trail, plain and simple, all you have to do is start at the beginning where the Boston Common is and follow the trail via the stone ground markings. It basically leads you thru a majority of the trail. Other than those details, take the time to take in the history and enjoy the scenic walk!

So much fun! Even my boyfriend who definitely didn’t want to get up early or run had a great time. Great guides. Includes a drink, shirt, and ferry ride. Totally worth the money. saw the whole city in 2 hours.

This was the first thing we did when we got to Boston (my first time) in July 2015 and it set the pace and guideline for the rest of our short visit and remained the highlight at the conclusion of the visit. Eddie, Danielle and Ginger have this running tour down to an art as well as a science. Eddie promised completion at the harbor at 10 am and I loved that he showed us his watch at that point and the time was 10:01. Wow for stating on schedule over a 5k running tour complete with detailed and interesting history telling at each of the 16 stops. I loved the little snippets preceded by «now get this» or «you’re going to love this part» I loved this great morning dose of American history. I will do it again and hope to find similar options in the future touring new cities.

A great way to see some of the historical sites of Boston. Ginger was a fantastic guide. The pace is brisk but not uncomfortable by any means. You will see so many things that the ordinary tourists would probably miss.

Ginger was an incredible tour guide who ran a great pace, had great energy and definitely knew her history! Her enthusiasm for making the morning run fun was contagious and everyone was all smiles the whole way (including the final uphill push). Just visiting for the weekend, this is a great way to see some of the historical sights of Boston that you may otherwise never take the time to visit (some old burying grounds, Boston Massacre sight, the back alley spring, Newman’s Window) all the while getting in a good workout. Though each run is very brief (and doable for people of all ages) you will find yourself with a light sweat and slightly breathless once you reach Tedeschi’s. I absolutely recommend this for everyone regardless of whether or not you live in Boston or just visiting to learn a little more about America’s history (and I hope you get Ginger as your guide!).

I highly recommend the Freedom Trail Run. We learned a lot about the history in Boston; got in a good, leisurely run; and had a great time with Ginger and Britney, our tour leads.
Most of the historic sites are pretty empty during the morning, so you can get a real appreciation for the place and good pictures. There are only two times during the run when you’ll get your heart rate up: running the half mile across the Charles River, and up Bunker Hill.
Ginger and Britney knew a lot about the history of the various stops and conducted the entire experience with care for the runners and good humor. They really made this a phenomenal morning!

The Freedom Trail Run was our favorite part of our trip to Boston. We ran through the streets of Boston on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning. There was hardly any traffic and very few people, it felt like we had the city to ourselves. My husband and I run regularly and our kids 12 and 16 run occasionally. We all completed the run easily. We saw so many beautiful and historical sites and buildings and we saw them in a way that just doesn’t happen on a tour bus. Our guides were great they had historical facts for us at every stop. It was an amazing time and a great memory. When we go back to Boston we will definitely do the Freedom Trail Run again.

I grew up in Boston and went to the Freedom Trail numerous times on various school trips … and always dreaded it. Ugh history! :0) In college, we turned the Freedom Trail into a pub crawl…
But THEN I found out about the Freedom Trail Run. Okay, I gave the Freedom Trail another shot…
And Eddie and his crew of tour guides DIDN’T disappoint. This is a run designed for all ages and fitness levels. In total you run about 3 miles, but you stop at least 16 times at different historical landmarks. The longest stretch of straight running was about ½ a mile.
Even though I was born and raised in Boston, I learned SO many new things during this tour and burned some calories doing it. Hello win-​win.
The tour guides are engaging and knowledgable. In total, the tour start to finish is exactly 2 hours and held no matter the weather.
This is an event for locals and tourists alike. I had a blast and would totally do it again.
In addition to the run, you get a t-​shirt, a free non-​alcoholic beverage at the end, a ferry ride back to the start and a lifetime of knowledge for $ 40.

By far, my favorite thing my wife & I did while in Boston.
We are both active people who have both run 5Ks before. It’s the length of a 5K but there are many stops in between so it wasn’t much of a physical challenge for us. It’s a *great* way to see the historical sites of Boston. There were stops for pictures, as well as a water break halfway, which was great considering it was already 95 degrees at 9:30am.
You’re comp’d a beverage at the end of the run and you’ll also get a T-​Shirt.
Some of the guides also take pictures with a nice SLR camera & you can tag yourself in the pictures after the fact… on the house!
Even if you’re somewhat active, I highly recommend this!

The freedom trail run is a three mile running tour along Boston’s Freedom Trail. I have lived in MA most of my life, and yet, have never gone along the whole Freedom Trail. Last weekend BF and I decided to check this tour out, as it was half historical, and half athletic-​y. Really though, you don’t at all have to be in shape to do this «run» as Eddie stops 17 times to teach you various things. I learned a lot of random info from Eddie… among them are…
Tremont Street got it’s name from three man-​made hills, or, «mounts» Tre-​mont.
John Handcock’s grave has a hand and three roosters on it, symbolizing Hand and Cock.
The skinniest house in Boston is looking for renters. And you have a view of the cemetery when washing your dishes.
Parts of gravestone slabs are removable to go downstairs into a tomb.
So, yeah… you learn all these bits an pieces of info along the way. Eddie is extremely enthusiastic about his job, and very knowledgeable. He takes many pics along the way. The longest part of the run is about a half mile, as you head into Charlestown. At the end, he buys you a drink and you get a ride back on the ferry, where you get the best views of Boston. Oh, and you get a cute Boston Freedom Trail Run tee too!
Definitely a fun way to learn a little about Boston history, without getting sucked into a full day of touring. We met at 8:15, and finished at 10:30. It was definitely worth $ 35 for a unique way to tour Boston on a Saturday morning!

Eddie did a great job leading our group on a run of the Freedom Trail historic spots. He gave the history of each site as well as some interesting personal stories. We did the run at the beginning of our Boston visit and it allowed us to get an overview of each site and then we re-​visited in more depth what we were interested in.

One of the best ways to see the city — a quick and dirty version of so many important sites with great views. Eddie even works as a photographer, not just a tour guide so you will end up with some great shots along the trail.

My wife and I were traveling with our kids (9 & 12) and wanted to try something different from a traditional tour. I booked this tour on their website and paid through Google payments. On the day of the tour, Eddie met us at our hotel and we quickly started to run. My daughter who was a little worried about conditioning did not have any problem. We stopped about 20 times during the 2 hour run and got great explanations on every stop of the Freedom Trail. Eddie also took a lot of pictures of the family which he later e-​mailed to us.

I own my own bike touring company, so I tend to take tons of «tours» when I travel. Let me tell you, Eddie O knows his stuff! His knowledge of Boston’s history is endless, and his speaking ability is quite impressive! Very engaging, loved the whole thing.
The pace was very easy, so all levels can handle it. You stop 17 times to learn about an area, building, historical figure, etc, so you have lots of time to recover (if even needed!).
Thanks Eddie O, I will (and have been) suggesting this to everyone I can. Can’t wait to return the favor when you come to the island for a visit.

I just ran the Freedom Trail Run with Eddie O, for my second time. Both times were 5 stars! Eddie makes the run fun and he is exploding with interesting facts about Boston. I’ve lived in the area for about 6 years and I’ve never felt so smart about Beantown than I do right now! Thanks Eddie’O and Freedom Trail Run crew!

I have been living in Boston since February of 2010 and had yet to take a tour of the Freedom Trail. Finally after a year and a half, I took the plunge this past Saturday and saw the Freedom Trail ‘in motion’ under the direction of Eddie O.
This tour couldn’t have been better. It was a beautiful day, clear skies and temperatures in the mid-70’s. We started right outside of the Park Street T stop (Park & Tremont) and ran along the Freedom Trail all the way to the Charlestown Navy Yard. This tour covers the great cemetery’s along the trail, the old State House, Faneuil Hall, the North End and the Bunker Hill Monument in Charlestown. Throughout the tour (3 miles), you stop about 15 times.
The tour starts out slow with many stops, however, it gets slightly more difficult at the end. The longest stretch is about ½ mile over the bridge from Boston to Charlestown. The hardest stretch (in my opinion) is from bottom of a hill in Charlestown to the top to see the Bunker Hill Monument. As long as you can run a mile between 8 – 12 minutes you will be just fine on this tour. You definitely don’t need to be a marathon runner, but don’t test it out if you have never run before. There were a couple lagging behind on my tour and unfortunately by the time they caught up with the group they had missed the history and it was time to run again.
Once the tour ends in the Charlestown Navy Yard, you are given plenty of water and a t-​shirt, then everyone boards a ferry en route which drops off at Quincy Market. They do group tours (about 15 – 20 people) every Saturday & Sunday morning; the run is $ 35. This tour was so much fun and Eddie O. is awesome; he also takes plenty of pictures and e-​mails them out to the whole group. If you have a chance to take this tour, I highly recommend it.
Woohoo, Freedom Trail Run!

This run was a BLAST ! And I’m not even a real runner … I huffed and puffed a bit, as the pace was a BIT faster than I expected, but given that I run slow as a snail, don’t let that keep you away. We paused at ALL sorts of great sights along the trail, so there’s plenty of time to catch your breath if, like me, you’re not in the greatest running shape. This run is a GREAT way to see the Freedom Trail, plus there’s a ferry ride and a T shirt at the end ! Also, with all the food I’d eaten in Boston, this was a great way to get in some exercise ! Wear GOOD running shoes, as the cobblestones in this town are a killer !!
Eddie is a super entertaining history buff and filled us in on all sorts of trivia that I probably would not have known about otherwise. Also, this got us up and out of the hotel nice and early, and was a super start to the day. I highly recommend it !!

Loved it! If you like to run, but not really so much on early weekend mornings you’ll probably enjoy yourself. I prefer to stop and look at stuff while I run in order to pretend like i’m not winded. Annoyingly ambitious runners might want to get there half an hour early in order to run the common a few times to feel productive. I also learned lots of interesting stuff because Eddie is so fantastic.

This is such a fun tour of Boston as well as a great workout! Eddie is funny and informative as the group runs from stop to stop on Boston’s historical freedom trail. We went on a Sunday and because of the smaller groups on this day, we were able to do a bonus Bunker Hill stair climb! Since then, I ran the Halloween special run which focused on the dark side of Boston — murders, deaths and ghosts. We even got to go into the crypt of King’s chapel. I also ran the Christmas light run which was also a ton of fun. Each run is a little over 3 miles (5K) and a great workout. You also get a t-​shirt with every run that is always in festive colors. I highly recommend this run to everyone!
