My husband planned this as a surprise for our 3yr wedding anniversary. It was our first 5star experience and one I will never forget. Amazing ambiance, valet only parking, a warmed coat closet, spectacular views of Boulder, excellent service. Everything looked so good on the menu. I had the duck and my husband had the red snapper. The best food I have ever had. Was a very special night… not something we would do very often with the price point but a wonderful anniversary experience.

The service is great, the view is fantastic, but the food was ok. My husband liked his steak.

A very pretty view. There were a lot of amuse bouche and complimentary sorbets and deserts. I had scallops which were great.

First time here for my boyfriends birthday last night. First off the customer service is fantastic. I felt a little weird everyone kept apologizing to me about reaching over to take my plate away. lol Overall the experience was great. I wish we were seated in the first room towards the right though. Our view wasn’t as great and the reflection from the lighting made it harder to see through the windows in the evening. The restaurant is very quiet and clean. As for the food, it was all very delicious. My boyfriend got the lamb three different ways, and was a hit. I grabbed the Red snapper and it came with this red beet and goat cheese(from what I remember) gnocchi. I absolutely LOVE gnocchi, but it was decent. It wasn’t fluffly and soft like it should be. It ended up being a little more dense then I expected. Throughout the meal they kept bringing little plates from the chef. Those were great! Like these cheese and cracker bites, a palate cleanser which was a hibiscus sorbet in a flakey pastry, and this teeny, tiny, panna cotta(it came with this tiny spoon). All were great transitions into the meal. Finally, we ordered the crème brûlée with fresh fruits, and because it was my boyfriends birthday we also received a wonderful plate of assorted tiny pastries and chocolates. The experience overall was delightful. They made us feel very fancy =) Next time, I would try and get a table reserved in the other room, and maybe earlier in the day. So, we can see a better view. Besides that and the gnocchi, great place for a romantic evening. Nice job guys!

we decided to celebrate my birthday this year going to Flagstaff House, we only go there for special occasions and in the past the service & food was impeccable. this year not so much, we were disappointed. Flagstaff house was always 5+ stars and I was excited that we were going there again. However the menu was disappointing & the service was just ok — the food was ok. If I never go back that will be ok too — I will not hold it in the highest esteem any longer.

Gifts from the chef between meals can’t make up for a bland salad, undercooked fish and small entrée portions. Cooking fish so it melts in your mouth is simple using the Canada Fisheries Rule. Any cook or chef worth their salt knows this. We found them listed under farm to table restaurants. I expect generous portions of vegetables – at least one to two fistfuls, from this type of restaurant. We were seated amidst many large parties. So many servers were milling around them. It was so distracting. All for $ 130 for two. We don’t drink. Maybe we should. Won’t be going back.

I was recently at a class in Boulder, Co and we went to this restaurant one evening for dinner. This is by far one of the best places that I have ever eaten at. The food was great. The mountain view from the restaurant is awesome.

View here is AMAZING!!! Not the easiest place to get to, the road going up the mountain is a bit dangerous and will result in some serious white knuckles. We came here for dinner one night, started off on the patio for drinks then went into the main dining room for food. The appetizers were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. The dining room ambience is very nice, super romantic. I ordered the filet mignon, it was pretty good, quality meat and cooked just right. The salad was kind of bad, and the dessert was just so so. Nice place for a candle lit romantic dinner. Super pricey but you will score some major points with your date!

Dinner was amazing. All the courses were spectacular. The service was impeccable. Our server, Hannah, was knowledgable, pleasant and elegantly professional while maintaining a friendly and comfortable rapport all night. She was backed up by what seemed like a cast of thousands. Ever present and well timed service that never intruded. Great view and an incredible wine list to top it off. Especially strong in older and rare vintages.

Fantastic birthday surprise from my love. Outstanding service and menu selections(even a special menu printed for my birthday!). The views are fantastic… be sure to get there ahead of the amazing sunset, and take your time sitting outside on the patio with a glass of wine, before you head in for your meal. Be sure to try the ‘eggs and bacon’ appetizer. Not sure about the negative reviews, as both my spouse and I are foodies and were quite happy with our selections(preparation, presentation and taste). From the amuse bouche sent by the chef, to the complimentary sweet cakes we were sent home with… everything was well planned. This was an amazing evening and I hope to be back again soon!

The view was amazing. The metro area needs more restaurants with a view. The food… Like another reviewer said, is totally 80s gourmet. It’s so completely average I can’t believe this place is as popular as it is. They are surviving on nostalgia and reputation alone. The service was good, but bordering on weird. The vegetarian options are very limited. We had a good time and checked a box on the experience, but I wouldn’t go back. Restauranteurs… There is business opportunity in the«restaurants with a view» market if these guys are winning it!

View, food, view, food, view, food. That about sums it up. I guess for the amount of $$$$$$, you expect no less and we were not disappointed. The timing and choreographed service was outstanding, really hard to find these days a nice restaurant that has the discipline and training to bring the courses out at the right time and tempo while the foods are still warm, allowing for some time between courses and removing all your dishes at the same time without feeling rushed. Nicely done, Flagstaff House. Not going to talk much about the view other than GREAT. The foods were well seasoned and prepared. Medium rare steak was indeed medium rare. I wish they had more vegeterian dishes, because the wild mushroom cannelloni(the only veg option entrée) was nicely done and very tasty, so I know they can do it.

Great views, very expensive and the food was poor. They brought a bunch of food from the chef, nice idea but marginal execution. The entre i ordered was greasy. Thye grilled the snapper and then dropped a greasy, bacon sauce on it, yuck. It is a bit maddening as I specifically asked how the fish was prepared and the waitress clearly did not know as the final product was not even close to the description. Good thing i did not like it as the portion was tiny. My daughter ordered the cannelloni, it came out looking and tasting like it had been under a heat lamp for sometime. They seem to think all of the snacks from the chef made up for the tiny portion. Did not get my money’s worth. My advice to them is to pay attention to what customers order and don’t worry so much about the fluff. Came for my birthday, will be the last ime.

Took a date and had an absolutely perfect first time experience. We shared a tuna tar tar app that was delicious, I had the Kobe beef(rare) and she went with the duck leg with couscous. Both were incredible. For desert we shared the chocolate bag, so wonderful. In between the courses they surprised us with a number of pallet cleansers complimentary of the chef. The cucumber sorbet was very refreshing and interesting! The service was outstanding. You definitely get what you pay for, I cant wait to come back.

Took the BF here for his special birthday. Although, this type of establishment is normally not his cup of tea, as long as duck is on the menu then he’s game. Valet is complementary. Upon entering, we were greeted by three hostesses and taken to our reserved table by a window overlooking the city of Boulder! Beautiful view. Before ordering we were offered sample appetizers and breads. Service was very proper, prompt and courteous. Our server was Janae, and she was great! I ordered the trout with scallop, which looked and tasted great. The BF ordered the duck breast and confit with apricot. We did not have room for dessert, but Janae was so sweet to provide tiny bites of a variety of desserts as gratis. They were yummy. Price to treat out my special guy on one appetizer and two main courses(no wine, no dessert) was $ 113 + tip. The establishment is pricey and something I would like to treat myself to once a year. Overall, even though the bf might not have cared for such froo-frooiness, I enjoyed every aspect of the service. As extra gratis, Janae gave a small loaf of blue berry bread to take home. I would bring out of town friends and family here next time.

We have a group that visits Boulder annually for a meeting, and the Flagstaff is a tradition. From the mountain view, to the stellar service, to the creative dishes we look forward to our annual return. Dining here, especially with a larger group, is an event so plan on several hours. With multiple courses, small tastes and palate cleansers it is an enjoyable night to share with friends. Many reviews share the love of the place. A few of our group’s favorites — the lemon drop cocktail, the asparagus, morel mushroom and soft-boiled egg starter, and the infamous chocolate bag dessert. Don’t forget a picture out on the back patio with a view of the Flatirons in the background. The staff will be happy to help.

This place is seriously one of a kind. Everyone must experience Flagstaff House at some point in their life. This is now my third time eating here and it seriously gets better every time! I had the Alaskan Halibut and it was the best! They really know how to cook the fish perfectly bringing out its natural flavor. Also definitely recommend the salted cashew ice cream! I’ve never had a better ice cream! Our server Hannah was amazing! She really knows how to make everyone at the table feel welcomed. She was so knowledgeable and really helped make our experience a great one. Thanks Flagstaff for another unforgettable experience!

Oh how I hate to do this, but I can only give 3 stars. The atmosphere was wonderful(except for the crying baby. not their fault). The view was amazing and you really felt that you were in a special place to have dinner. However, the food was just ok. It seems as though most of the creativity and flavor is put into the amuse bouche and not the main menu. We had the tenderbelly Berkshire bacon as an appetizer and it was ok. The top was rather dried out. We also had the filet. I have to say I have had much better steaks. Not much flavor and it was overlooked. We skipped dessert as nothing was wowing us and at that point we didn’t have high expectations for dessert. Finally, the service was just ok. We only spoke to our server a couple of times and never saw her again until time for the check.
