There’s nothing special about the piece of real estate. It’s in a little shopping area and is pretty small inside. What makes it great though is the bartender is cool as hell and they do things like open comedy night and karaōke. They also have a smoking room in the back. I’ve been I twice and had a great time both times. Not like most other Boulder bars and I like that.

Bar Tenders are all friendly and knowledgable, Great atmosphere, Live Entertainment almost every night of the week, has a cigar lounge, so the main bar space is smoke-free, and a very eclectic group of regulars, with interesting stories and discussions happening on the patio. one of my favorite places to hang out.

If you are looking for a genuine cigar bar where you can have a great glass of scotch and a good cigar this is the spot. They have a separate room with lounge chairs and a TV where you can smoke and watch tv! We loved it! Great place

I really enjoy this place taking a break from Denver and going up to Boulder the owner and bartender are great the atmosphere is really cozy a big plus is the patio you can definitely sit out and chill out The cigar bar is based on the concept of bar first and cigars second which I like because sometimes when you go into a cigar shop there’s not much furniture or any place to stretch out your legs and relax this place emphasizes music personable people and some really good cigars

Surprised to see so much hate for Johnny’s! It’s a small bar that attracts a lot of men, but they have a great FREE comedy open mic night on Tuesdays. The drinks are averagely priced for Boulder, and the bartenders are all nice. Wine is slightly below average, so I’d stick with beer. I don’t smoke cigars, so I can’t really comment on their selection, but there are always some smokers enjoying them out on the patio. However, it is not smokey in the bar, so don’t let that deter you. I really love this place. It’s one of my favorite bars in Boulder. A lot of the joints in this town are a little pretentious, but you won’t find that at Johnny’s. If you like the frou-frou places with fancy drinks and hipster bartenders with glorious beards, this probably isn’t for you. If you want a chill, East-coast style small bar where you can chat, drink beer, potentially smoke a cigar if that’s your thing, and see some great comedy then try Johnny’s.

A classy, speak-easy establishment with undertones of antiquated sophistication. Josh and Whitney live up to their reputation of being the greatest bartenders in town, offering unparalleled drink & cigar expertise.

What a waste of real estate… The owner is quite RUDE and the cigar selection is pathetic. Don’t let the name FOOL you, this place is actually a bar with a tiny«smoking lounge» that is the size of a large closet. You are much better off, driving 10 minutes out of town to Louisville and smoking at Havana Manor

I had a horrible experience dealing with johnny’s cigar bar. I was interested in buying a humidor and called to ask about them, the response I got was that they were too expensive for me and I would not be able to afford them. All over the phone. I called back again to check if they were going to be open on Christmas eve and the person who answered sounded angry that I would dare call them. They also said something like is the same person calling and that I definitely could not afford them. This is absurd, they have absolutely no idea who I am or what I can afford. I will never give them my business and if they are willing to treat customers in that manner they should have never even opened such a business.

Ok this place maynot be for everyone. I liked the décor, the layout, and the smoking room in the back with poker was hella tight. I’m mean shiiiiit brother, where else you gonna get your drink on, play some cards, and light up a Cuban! So haters quit your hatin’ However I do remember how the young Asian waitress looked like she might just fall asleep pouring a scotch or fart in your glass. There is too much yoga booty in boulder to be putting up with the likes of that broad, for real!

I’m not quite sure why all the haters be hatin’, but I had a GREAT time at Johnny’s Cigar Bar. A few caveats: 1. I was visiting my sister from out of town, I’m a cigar smoker, and I’m quite familiar with cigar lounges in Chicago. 2. It was only me and my sister in the lounge(and Johnny of course) 3. It was a beautiful day so we got to sit outside and drink/smoke which, of course, was better than sitting inside We didn’t really have to deal with any crowds at all, and I imagine the smoking room in back gets a little stuffy, but for a vacation stop on a wonderful day, it was exactly what I was looking for. When we walked in, I was a little nervous that Johnny would think I was a no good out-of-towner that thought it would be «neat» to try cigars. He can be a little rough around the edges, but once we picked out some good sticks and ordered up a couple of Grand Marniers, he warmed up to us and ended up being a great guy. The lounge itself is very classy with a full bar and a piano for live music some nights(this was the middle of the afternoon, so we just settled for playing some Frank Sinatra on my phone.) They have a full bar with some signature drinks and if you talk to Johnny for a little while he’ll make some recommendations if you’re not sure what you want(for a drink or a cigar.) Don’t expect to have someone checking in on you every 20 minutes, but if you like smoking cigars at a classy joint at a slower pace with an old school feel, Johnny’s is the place for you. Next time I’m in town I’ll definitely be coming back.

If this place was just a bar it would get a mediocre 3 star rating. The addition of the cigar bar aspect, including being able to purchase cigars and smoke them on the patio with a drink during the spring and summer bumps this up to a 4 star rating.

I did not like this place. There were three men sitting at the bar and I sat in the ‘lounge’ area. I wasn’t greeted when I walked in. I waiting 10 minutes before the waitress approached me and asked if I wanted a drink. I let her know that I was waiting for other people, but I’d be ready to order in a minute. She responded that people ordinarily come to the bar and order and don’t wait for her to come to their table. And she never approached me again, even though she stood about 20 feet away from me. She took more time putting on some pop music(which was very loud). The owner asked me if I just wandered in, then he asked me if I wanted a drink and I told him I did. And then nothing happened. He didn’t take my drink order and neither did the waitress. At that point I called the rest of my party and told them to meet me somewhere else downtown. At that point the waitress approached me and asked if I wanted to order. I told her no and left. This establishment seems to cater to their ‘regulars’. No one seemed interested that I wanted to order a drink and I was ignored practically the entire time I was there. My party and I had a MUCH better time at another place downtown and there is no way I’d walk into this place again. The other reviewers who have given this place 1 star are completely correct in their assessment.

Local, small, and great live music. Johnny’s is the only place in Boulder where you can smoke a cigar indoors. I would recommend this place if you were looking for something a bit quieter, and mellow

I’ve been an avid Cigar smoker for many years and I travel quite a bit for business throughout the US. One of my favorite routines while on the road is to find a local Cigar Bar and enjoy a smoke. I recently visited Johnny’s Cigar Bar and can tell you that it was the worst experience I’ve had at any Cigar Bar in the Country. Walking in the place looks nice enough, in fact better than most; nice bar, nice smoking lounge, right on par with a few of the other reviewers comments. As you enter, there is a small section of humidors sparsely filled with cigars. There was an overwhelming majority of low end cigars that were priced 2 – 3 times higher than I’ve seen anywhere else. I asked the guy behind the bar if he had another humidor in the store, most places of this size have a nice walk in or separate humidor for premium cigars. As it turned out the man behind the bar was the owner and he seemed to take offense to my question because he immediately went on the offensive asking me, «you mean something besides the 180 different labels and variety of blends?» I was taken back by his aggressiveness, I later came to the conclusion that he must get that question a lot and knows deep down it’s a poor, overpriced collection of cigars. I’d also like to add there was no where near 180 different labels, and if you look at the short list on his website most of the good cigars he says he has, he really doesn’t. His next few comments closed the deal for me. He first asked if I was from out of town, to which I replied yes, this prompted a lecture on Cigar taxes in CO. He then said I could drive 25 miles to Longmont or 30 miles to Northglenn but I would only save a dollar. My response to him was that it would be worth it for the Customer Service alone and I left. I found a tobacco shop 1 mile from his location with a great walk-in humidor and reasonably priced cigars. As a cigar smoker I find it extremely offensive to see $ 5-$ 10 cigars selling for $ 15-$ 25, it’s price gouging. From what Dustin G. said about the drinks it seems to be a common theme at Johnny’s Cigar Bar. Caveat emptor

I went back in January, and only now got around to submitting a review. A very cute asian bartender was completely and totally overwhelmed. Empty glasses all around. She was out of her league here. We had a beer, begged for more, but were told«i’m busy and I’ll get to you in a minute», so we left.(as did others) A pity, since the music and atmosphere were nice. I don’t like cigars at all so we didn’t go in the smoking lounge.

If you like the mellow jazz scene then this is your place. Classy layout and proper drinks, you won’t find the bros hanging out here. If you don’t mind smoke they have their own cigar lounge with tv and poker table, pretty sweet to end a night. Oh and good scotch collection.

Well well well Of course I don’t smoke cigars and don’t drink alcohol either. A customer Johnny’s Cigar Bar will treasure for now and the eternal future, right? Ah, but, it doesn’t really matter. After dinner at Salt Bistro recently, my group of mostly out-of-town friends adjourned to Johnny’s, as a friend’s daughter bartends here during the weekend. I cannot speak of the drink prices, as friends were already generously buying rounds for one another & drinking interesting drinks like«dark and stormy night» by the time I made my appearance. But the bartender brought me coffee with a nice little container of half and half and sugar and said«it’s on me». So I left her a 100% tip! No one at our table complained about drink prices, but like I said, I did not peruse the drink menu. It was nice to know the bartender, and to feel welcome there. A guy was singing and playing guitar. I left him a tip too, because he sang a Bob Dylan song especially for me. You know, my life is just so darn solitary a lot of the time, I am quite overjoyed when out-of-towners visit and invite me on an outing! So that’s why a non-drinking non-smoker could just simply love Johnny’s Cigar Bar. They serve hot chocolate too, you know. I hear it’s very popular with the ice skaters in the rink just outside the door.

I don’t smoke cigars very often but I was in the neighborhood and stopped in. The owner was around and he was really helpful and chatty about the cigars without being a cigar snob about it. Just because it’s in Boulder does not mean he needs to cater to college students. Nothing in here is priced for anyone attending CU. It’s a cigar bar. If you want a $ 2 beer and a swisher sweet go to a liquor store. If you don’t like the prices of cigars don’t vote for tax increases on tobacco products.
