Wanted to order take out, but the line was busy. We were«forced» to order at the bar and have a beer while we waited. The service was great. The pizzas were great. The crusts are thin and crisp. The beer selection was good. The take out salad could have used a lot more dressing.

I work in North Boulder, and Proto’s is convenient. It is pretty pricey for lunch, although the pizza is good. Because the crust is thin, if you are hungry, the small pizza may not be big enough. I will go there when I am craving pizza and feeling rich.

We hadn’t been here for a very long time, but I’m afraid we won’t be back. The service was wonderfully attentive and friendly, but the food was actually only average. The really irritating thing was the check — two added items which had been listed as being an included part of the day’s special pizza. A $ 20 pizza? I think not.

Working in north Boulder, you have very limited places for lunch. Proto’s has been a great option — nice setting, outside seating, and easy pick-up. The staff is always friendly and the food is great.

Cute location, very clean. Loved the ceiling lights. Outdoor patio and a garage door opening out on it for the summer months. Next to a small gym, which seems unfair, but not as unfair as the bakery across the street. I’m not a big fan of thin crust pizza, but what was there of the crust was very good. I got the special of the day, the harvest pizza, which had pesto and spinach and two cheese, and loved it. B. got a sausage pizza and actually let me have a bite. I thought it was overly sweet, in a ‘chef boyardee’ flavor kind of way. Not sure if it was the sausage or the sauce, but I wasn’t overly impressed by it. Will, of course, try again sometime, because it’s a block away from work. I did like the sizes available. The small is good for lunchtime!

Solid pie but a bit on the expensive side for what you get. It is the nearest to my house so the easiest to get so we wind up eating here pretty often. Their white pie is pretty tasty and in general a consistent quality pie.

Pizza tastes great, I especially like the sauce! I went in at around 3:30 so not busy at all. Pizza came within 10 minutes. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I’ll stop here again for sure!

Way too expensive for what you are getting. The pizza is average at best, but priced like a gourmet pizzeria. The menu is small, doesn’t offer many appetizers you’d normally find at a pizza place… like they don’t have breadsticks! My husband and I ordered the caesar salad and it was so small and very expensive. Overall, you can find a much better pizzeria in Boulder!

Do not eat here if you need to be gluten free! I ordered their gluten free pizza– which was quite good– and I suppose they don’t have a dedicated oven or preparation space for gluten free pizzas, because I had a severe reaction. I couldn’t even leave my house for 18 hours for fear of being away from the toilet… So, good pizza, but not for those that truly need to be gluten free for health reasons and not preference.

We’ve been going to Proto’s for their Friday night clam pizza. We don’t make it every week but maybe once a month. It’s not the best pizza but we enjoy it. Has a nice thin crispy crust. The toppings aren’t too much and you won’t walk away feeling heavy and full. The sauce is tasty and our child gets his own pizza. We go pretty early in the evening and always managed to get a table. I know everyone is complaining that it’s expensive but pizza is expensive. It used to be this fun cheap dinner and now somehow, it’s gotten pretty pricey for what you get. It’s not just here. We’ve ordered Abo’s(which tastes like cardboard) and spent $ 30 on a pizza. The staff here is friendly and decent and the patio is nice on a summer evening.

We stopped here after a long bike ride. Great thin crust pizza and a wonderful arugula, watdercress and pear salad. If only they had a wood fired oven, then they would have a true Neapolitan style pizza.

Very average experience. Pizza was fine, ingredients fresh, but everything was quite overpriced and nothing was particularly tasty. Overall very bland; I would recommend Nick N Willys near Pearl or Marcos in Louisville for better pizza. Proto’s is just conveniently located for me.

A visit on a recent trip led me to Photo’s, and if I had not read other reviews stating it was a chain I would never have guessed it. Interesting pizza combinations to choose from, and a good beer selection. Our server gave us plenty of time to chat while selecting our pizza without making us feel abandoned. As for our selection, I would have it again in a heartbeat(but I will not be surprised if it is only at Proto’s); the Sour Kraut pie was quite tasty! That and a cold stout hit the spot.

We spent our Friday night here and found the atmosphere fun and lively. The kids loved being able to pick their own individual pizzas– and my hubby and I could finally be happy with our own selections as well– him all veggie and me with some substance. Their version of the Hawaiian was fantastic! My husband and I also shared a yummy and fresh salad. The downside was the price… we definitely paid for the luxury of 4 individual pizzas. I get it, the guys behind the counter never stopped rolling, flipping, and working out the dough. Tons of hard work! I think next time we will suck it up and get one large to share… SOME people will have to pick off the meat!

Truly delightful GF and regular truly thin crust pizza with a great open atmosphere. The pizza and salad were great. Even better — great patio, drinks and italian sodas. They had three pizza makers out where everyone can watch them prepare pizza and watch them spin it! Yep — it was a good time as well as yummy!

Simple, little place with good food. I think the salads are great and the pizza is really tasty. Is it the best pizza in Boulder– no. But it is darn good pizza that is definitely better than most and there is usually not a wait to get a table. Always friendly service. I recommend it!

Even though Proto is a chain and is situated on a busy stretch of Broadway it feels very much like a neighborhood hangout, especially with the lovely, relatively quiet patio out back and the relaxed, chill vibe of the staff and patrons. I had the Sicilian martini to begin with and I loved the savoury details — anchovy-stuffed olives, a splash of bloody mary mix and Abolut peppar vodka. Not for everyone, but definitely my style. The pizzas here are quite good and definitely some of the best I’ve had in Boulder. Good combo of stretch and crisp in the crust and the toppings do not soggify the crust, which is very important to me. We enjoyed the Proto pie, a margherita jazzed up with Italian sausage, as well as the Pesto. Both were delicious and enough food for two adults and two children. This place is very kid-friendly but also holds on to an adult crowd as the evening wears on. The drinks menu is really good and I think this helps to retain people!

This is our favorite pizza in Boulder. Thin crust, nicely browned in the wood fired oven, modest portions so no leftover which is good. I only like my pizza fresh. All the pizzas are really good, but I always order extra basil on my margherita. The special salads on the weekends are our favorites. And the staff is the friendliest in Boulder. Like family, really. The outdoor patio is so much fun in the summer and we love that it is in the shade in hot weather, even for an early dinner. The restaurant is a little small inside so it can get awfully crowded in the winter though.

Still our favorite pizza place in Boulder. We used to go to the original one up in Longmont, so happy to have one close to home! And it’s been good watching the company grow. Nice thin crust, not smothered in cheese, and good sauce! I love the sauce. Friendly, helpful service. Good drinks! Funky bathrooms. Not dirty, eclectic. Very glad they installed changing tables, finally. I’ve tried most of the pizzas on the menu and many of the special pies. We like the clam pizza, the Lazy L with extra peppers, the Proto Pie, the Annie, and SO many others. We do not often get dessert. The cheesecake from across the street at Spruce was quite good. Gelato is good, too. Very good mixed drinks. Italian sodas are well done, too. It can be super loud on busy nights, but we always go early. Love the garage door windows that open up the restaurant to the great patio. The patio is our favored place to sit in the summer with all the herbs growing in nearby beds.

A decidedly average experience. Let’s start with the pros… — Thin crust, fresh ingredients. I’m not sure the crust could get much thinner and, unlike another recent review, the toppings were generous. — Cannolis and Glacier Gelato were rich and delicious. Not so good… — The first set of plates the server brought out were filthy. I mean lots of stuck-on food, easily visible. Our pizza got cold while we waited for the plates to be replaced. — I found a plastic in my Cannoli. It looked like a bit cut off when they opened the plastic bag of filling. I didn’t make a stink about it, but still… there’s nothing like pulling a piece of half chewed plastic out of your mouth. — They’re storing an old Twisted Pine keg in the men’s room. The keg was just sort of placed there next to the toilet, the protective cap off, placed along with a piece of random furniture. The brew date on the keg was October, six months ago. — They ran out of coffee and only had decaf. What sort of restaurant, especially one that promotes Lavazza, actually runs of out cofee?
