Pretty deplorable. I ordered the 15 Piece Sashimi Special which was a nice size… everything that I would have guessed to be on a special plate. As usual I arrange the order of the fish from the type I like the least to the most, so thus, I always eat my salmon last. That was my mistake I suppose… as I was taking the first bite of the salmon piece, I flipped it over to dip in soy and THEREWAS A DEADFLYONIT!!! AHH! Gross! As I totally reacted that way in the restaurant the waitress rushed over to see what was wrong. I showed her the fly and she was very embarrassed and asked me if I wanted anything else. I told her I had lost my appetite for sushi. I said I’d take a green tea ice cream. The waitress scampered off to grab me a dish of ice cream and yell at the chefs. When I came back with the ice cream I took the first spoonful and THEREWAS A LONGBLACKHAIRINIT! I just got pissed at this point and wanted to walk out. They didn’t even comp my bill or discount it at all! I just paid and ran out of there as fast as I could. NEVERAGAIN! VERDICT– EW! Cheap and unclean, stay away!

Tried their all-you-can eat deal. An amazing price for all the items you get(soup, an entrée, sushi and sushi rolls). I was a little underwhelmed by the quality. Not bad, but not great. When I’m eating raw fish, I really prefer great.

The sushi here is just ok. I came to this sushi bar because my friend told me they have nice and not-so-expensive sushi. However, for the quality of the sushi there, I think the price is too high. I would not come to this restaurant again.

I always drive past Yaki Maki on my way to Pearl Street, so one day I finally decided to check it out. I went with a couple of my girlfriends for the $ 20 all you can eat special, which is a genius idea. The sushi was alright, there are definitely better places to get it, but they had some really original rolls that I hadn’t tried before,(which is a hard feat to accomplish because I am a self-proclaimed sushi officianado) which was refreshing and nice. Overall good servuive and food, but all you can eat sushi for $ 20? That in itself is enough to get me to go back!

Ah, I adore sushi – and while I’ve certainly had better, for $ 20 for all you can eat, this place is a gem. I was expecting a sketchy buffet, but was pleasantly surprised that the way it works is you’re given a list of nigiri, rolls, and sushi options and you can order 2 rolls per round, but are given an unlimited number of rounds, so everything is prepared fresh to order. I did a salmon roll and several iterations of vegetarian rolls – the salmon was decent, but the veggie rolls were definitely solid. The only caveat is that for any rolls that you don’t finish, you are charged full price, so if you’re in the edge about round 10, perhaps wait until next time, or be ready to power through the pain. Our waiter was a bit lack luster, but I was still a happy camper at the end of the day.

Good sushi for a good price. I’ve been very pleased with this place both times I went. The all-you-can-eat was a great deal for lunch, although we were disappointed that you couldn’t order the specialty rolls. Notables: I really enjoyed their edamame and tempura rolls. Last time we went, we had some fishy tasting yellowtail on the all-you-can-eat. When we told the waiter, he was nice and said«Don’t worry about it. You can just leave it.» One complaint: their house sake was very bland.

All-You-Can-Eat Sushi is never a bad thing. For 18.95 a person, myself and three friends enjoyed over 10 maki rolls and 40 nigiri rolls plus bowls of miso, edamame and with three drinks our bill was under 100. The sushi was great and fresh. They have a large assortment of maki to choose from for the all-you-can-eat so you are not just stuck ordering tuna and salmon all night long. It is located right in downtown Boulder in the quaint part near the Walnut Brewery. My only complaint was that their bathroom smelled terrible, but it is the next morning and i feel fine so the food wasn’t tainted, joy!

I was a little hesitant to try sushi in Colorado let alone Boulder — not exactly due to sushi snobbery, but… this state is landlocked. When you are from a coastal region, it’s a bit scary thinking of fresh fish away from large bodies of water for a decent price. My friend goes here a lot with her boyfriend because they love sushi and can both pack away food– which is surprising if you saw them haha. Anyhow, we went for lunch on a day off. I would give the nigiri about a 3. Avoid the tuna, it was unpleasant. The all-you-can-eat special earned an extra star — there is a pretty good selection, some nice special rolls, and the appetizers are pretty good. It is definitely worth the price. I hear the fish is from the same supplier as most sushi bars in Boulder, which isn’t awful, however it doesn’t really set them apart — except for the inventive rolls and all-you-can-eat. You need to either eat all the rice or hide it inventively, or you are charged. If you aren’t sure how much you can eat, wait and order in the next round — you get 3 rounds to order. If I remember correctly, for each person you can order 1 appetizer, 8(or 10??) pieces of nigiri, 1 roll, annnd 1 entrée — every round. And you can share, though obviously you each have to pay the $ 13.95($ 18.95 for dinner).

Went to Yaki Maki for dinner Saturday night, on my solo tour of Boulder(waiting for movers to arrive with my belongings). The thing I really enjoy about Yaki Maki is that you can just order off of sheets of paper, which feature pretty reasonably priced specials(for both lunch and dinner). My dinner was perfectly fine — but nothing really stood out as superb. I had the two rolls for 8.95 special — spicy salmon and sweet potato tempura. Neither were the best I’ve ever had, but certainly weren’t the worst. The guys at the bar were friendly and entertaining, and gave me some free edamame. Apparently, there’s an all-you-can-eat special as well. It was surprisingly quiet here for Saturday night dinner(I went around 8pm). I have yet to check out other Japanese in the area so I don’t have a fair basis for comparison. But if you’re looking for sushi on the cheaper side of things, Yaki Maki is worth checking out.
