You know that saying: if you love your job, you’ll never work a day in your life? Well, the people at DiningIn must really love their jobs, since they don’t seem to ever work. The drivers are late, they may not arrive with your entire order(even though the orders are supposedly packaged at the restaurants), and customer service takes more than 15 minutes(that’s not an exaggeration) to answer a call. When they promise a refund, don’t trust them. Oh, and they charge a ridiculous delivery fee. Please do not use DiningIn.

I have a love-hate relationship with DiningIn. My office uses this service weekly to order lunches and I am the one who does all of the ordering. I’d say 60% of the time, the orders are fine, albeit mostly cold and takes much longer than it should to get here given the proximity of the majority of the restaurant that we order from. For example — We order directly from Sam Lagrassas through their corporate delivery. They’re here in less than 30 minutes. DiningIn also offers Sam’s — but it will take an hour and twenty minutes. A few times, they have just flat out ignored the«special instructions». I don’t know if this is the restaurant or DiningIn’s doing but regardless, I’m paying a marked up price for you to bring me my food — it should be correct or you should fix it. Most recently, we called and added something to our order after it was placed. They said no problem, got another confirmation email with the updated items and that was that. Except those items never came. Then, there was the time we ordered from an establishment and the order was messed up not once, not twice, but THREE times same trip. The first attempt they completely forgot items. Second time they brought the two items they forgot but they were completely wrong. Third time they brought back only one of the two items that they assured me would be fixed. If you’re in a pinch and need large lunch orders brought to your office, they’re ok for what they are. We don’t ever go into ordering anything from DiningIn expecting it to be 100% correct.

In my infinite wisdom, I gave this place one more shot and of course they failed miserably once again. I have a hankering for something sweet late at night so I ordered from Sweets Cupcakes in Back Bay. Soon after I completed my order, DiningIn calls me to say the bakery doesn’t have some of the cupcakes I wanted. OK, fine. I call back to update my order. The lady puts me on hold to call the bakery and tell them my substitutions… and then proceeds to hang up on me without confirmation that everything is fine. Two minutes later a completely different person calls me back to tell me the bakery doesn’t have some of the things I ordered. I explain that someone already called me to help me but he says my order hasn’t been changed. So I tell him my substitutions… AGAIN. As I’m talking to the guy, call waiting tells me someone is trying to call me. GUESSWHO? DIningIn! Now, a third person is calling me to tell me the same thing the first two people did. Are you freaking kidding me??? Does nobody communicate to one another in that office? Holy hell! At this point I decide to hang up and call back myself hoping to get a competent person. Miraculously, I do. She changes the order for me and puts a rush on delivery. She also subtracted the delivery charge for my trouble. But here’s the kicker… the food comes AND4OUTOFTHE5CUPCAKESAREWRONG! Instead of Macaroon and Snickerdoodle cupcakes, I got Mint Chocolate Chip. I DONTEVENLIKEMINT! NEVERAGAINWITHDININGIN. NEVER… AGAIN. By the way, the one cupcake that was right was painfully mediocre and I’m headed over to their page now to let them know.

1. Doesn’t work with Safari browsers. WTF? 2. Brain dead customer service if you call to place an order. 3. Food arrives in the next century and is cold. 4. Service used to be great but it SUCKS now. 5. If you have no food in the house, save your money and eat tissues instead.

Yes, the service comes in handy for many restaurants that don’t deliver; but not only do you pay for it, you pay a painfully unjustified marked-up price; The cost isn’t only for the delivery, bust most restaurants change higher prices via this service, meaning that the price you’re paying for your food is higher than what you’ll pay in the restaurant itself or had you called-in to pick up your own order. DiningIn appears to have been slow to remedy this, if they’ve remedied it all by now. The cost doesn’t justify the service which takes a minimum of one hour or more often with missing items. Lots of room for improvement here and we finally had to back off from using them.

Dining In. I am baffled that this delivery service is still in business. Who orders from them? Fourth time ordered, but this is the first time we actually got the food! Cold pizza, no napkins, no forks. Just several boxes of stone, cold pizza.
