My main issue with this spot were the blaring tvs strategically placed in the front and back of any table you sit at. I asked if the volume could be lowered — though you could not even tell even after the request. It’s diner food. Nuff said. The décor is traditional, with the cute leather seated booths and such.

I really love this place! Friendly people, and my eggs are always perfect just the way I ask for them every time!

my favorite place in Riverdale to order a hungover breakfast sandwhich. Bacon egg and cheese on a wrap — hits the spot every time.

The best diner food I’ve ever had for the best price. I’m pretty sure there secret ingredient is love I’m not sure cause they won’t tell me. My only complaint is that they aren’t open 24 – 7 every day

Ate here on Comedians In Cars with Amy Schumer. What I like about this superb dining establishment is they have an extensive menu: Fried shrimp with tartar sauce, Chicken souvlaki, grilled mozzarella, tuna fish, bread and butter, corn niblets. We ate none of this. Drinks? Forget it. They have everything! Sanka, Snapple, egg creams, hot chocolate. We drank none of these. All we had was coffee. Why? BECAUSETHAT’S THETITLEOFTHESHOW! What I like about the Shortstop restaurant in the Bronx is that you cannot get a haircut here. That keeps the traffic down. Why? BECAUSENOSANERESTAURANTWOULDGIVEHAIRCUTS! I HAVENEVERSEENONE. IT’S NOTCOMEDIANSINCARSGETTINGHAIRCUTS! 5 Stars! We loved it.

I was visiting a friend in the area, and had a serious craving for pancakes… so my friend suggested this diner, which is virtually around the corner from where she lives. This place is easy to miss, as it’s right underneath the 242nd street subway platform. The front entrance is quite small and pretty much overpowered by the eateries on either side of the restaurant. The place itself: Totally divey, dingy and like an antique greasy spoon. Looks like a favorite spot for MTA workers. The service: Decent. The guy at the counter was very friendly and very cute. My food came super fast as well. The food: I had a short stack with bacon. The pancakes were a good size, and the bacon had the right amount of crunch The butter used to top the pancakes was profoundly salty, but it added a good balance to the sweetness of the syrup. The cost of the meal was really reasonable– I only paid $ 5 for my meal. I would return, but until they make the place over, I’ll just take my food to go(yes I am an aesthetics freak lol).

Not bad. If everything else is closed and you don’t like fast food joints, this is a fine choice when in this vicinity. Western. Omelette was decent.

The absolute perfect place for a night time snack. I went here almost religiously while I was in school and up all night studying. I really only ever had a bacon, egg, and cheese with fries, but it was always great. The french toast is pretty good, too. I am not saying this place is great, but a nice greasy sandwich at 2am in between studying for an organic chem final felt great. I have been to a few diners in the area and this has always been my favorite. Keep in mind there are a few characters that hang out inside, especially at night, and the place doesn’t look the cleanest, but I never had a problem. I would recommend this place to all the college kids. They always had a couple of good, very affordable deals, but I think they end at 11pm. I was a regular so I got away with get the special price whatever time I went.

I mean, a diner is generally a diner. This is pretty much the same, but with a lot lower end of clientele. LOL It did the trick, but dont count me as a regular.

There are only two reasons to go to Short Stop: 1). You wake up to the sound of the train operator saying the #1 train is about to leave the station to go back downtown AND have a severe cheeseburger and fries deficiency after a long night of fun. 2). You are hungry at 4:00am AND you have no food at home.

I’ve never had a drunken meal here I didn’t like, and I have a lot of them. What can I say that hasn’t already been said, average diner, open 24/7, with good food and memorable staff /clientele.

It’s inexpensive, the food is mediocre and served quickly. That’s pretty much all I look for in a diner anyway. The only thing I advise is to not order the hot chocolate, capuccino, or coffee. They’re all watered down. Also, I’ve been here on a weekday afternoon where there was only one waitress and she didn’t even want to work. She went outside to smoke a cigarette and didn’t dare check in with anyone to see if you’d like anything. So, I’m not a fan of the wait service at all. I will never dine here again.

Burger and fries I said in my drunken stupor. Those were the best fries I remember eating drunk… and now my burger… ummm, I love you burger, but I’m getting sleepy, and sleepy, and… uh…er…uuuuu…zzzzzzz. Then I woke up Saturday morning with my face in a platter of cold fries and a half eaten burger. Suddenly, I’m clutching my belly with one hand and holding my arse with the other racing to the potty… I’ll. Spare u the rest of the gruesome details… I returned to the living room and could barely recognize the dish in front of me. Not very appealing. I’ve not been back in months and I don’t think I’m missing out on anything. Serves me right for drinking too much I guess but the burger didn’t look too good the next day and my tummy was rockin

Shortstop Restaurant is so decidedly average, well, it’s about as average as rowboats, t-shirts, ants, C students, a book being better than the movie, serial killers being white and male, this review, and 2.3 children per US household. And that’s pretty damn average. However, Shortstop is also a pretty perfect pit stop between a wonderful day in Van Cortlandt Park and your return trip southbound on the 1 Train. Plus, if you ever pass out underground and find yourself starved and stopped at the End of the Line(yes, 242nd St. is the last stop on the 1), Shortstop is a by-the-book diner, open 24 hours, and will gladly serve as the light at the end of your drunken tunnel. Anyway, I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich — lettuce, tomato, unremarkable bun, and a thin sliced breast that looked like it came hot off my kitchen skillet. So, yeah, like I said, a grilled chicken sandwich. Hit the spot, but again, still pretty damn average. However, the shoestring french fries(albeit a decidedly average side item in itself) must’ve been tasty because I feel like I was just shoveling them into my mouth. Not like that’s average behavior for me or anything. Shortstop Restaurant is also one of those joints where you need to ask for the key for the bathroom. Not sure what has gone on in there prior to this policy, nor do I think I want to know. But with the amount of cops that mosey on through this joint, I would hope not much. Then again, I can only imagine the amount of hoodrats that mosey on through this joint come nightfall. Vicious cycle, people. All in all, Shortstop Restaurant is a very clean, chill place to grab a booth, eat some decent grub, catch up on the news, and blend into the background. Sometimes being average ain’t half-bad.

It makes no difference if it’s 4AM or 2PM, you will always get your money’s worth at Shortstop. Shortstop personifies the definition of greasy spoon. It’s not some shiny, sterile diner you go to with the whole family after church on Sunday. They don’t need a big banner that brags, «Daily News readers picked us #1 four years in a row.» You go, you eat, you leave. If you’re alone, you read the NY Post at the counter, between a cop, and a MTA worker. If it wasn’t for the smoking ban, Tina would be taking your order, with a cig in one hand, pen in the other. Her sassy tude, along with the French Toast Deluxe and cheese fries, never disappoints.

It’s been years since I’ve made it back to Shortspot. But I stumbled on this place when I was reviewing Broadway Joe’s(next door). The thing I remember most about Shortstop is that they have THEBEST meatball sandwich I’ve EVER had. Very cheesey, very saucey, packed with gigantic, tasty, fresh meatballs. I always have the same thing when I return so I’ll need to attempt to try something else next time because if their meatball sandwich is any indication of the rest of their menu, I’m in for a treat. Love that it is open late hours too. This was always my late night stop when visiting Manhattan College.

This is a great place to eat near the subway, 242nd St Bars, and is open 24⁄7. Ive gone to this place for 20 years and it is very good, cheap, and the staff is very nice. Simple basic diner in appearance. not fancy… but you are eating the food and enjoying your company. Spotless and clean I highly reccomend to all. If you want a great filling breakfast, lunch and dinner for the food, company you have at a good bargain this is your place. Great all hours of day and night for a quick bite to eat. Shit… I was a drunk Manhattan College kid when I used to come here. They had this insane special of bacon, egg and cheese on a bun with fries and a drink for $ 3.25! I blame this place for my freshman 15!

This place barely gets a three. I figured it works out well in a mathematical sense. See this place is open 24 hours in an area that really lacks all night eateries. Anytime between 7 am and 12 pm its probably a 2.5, but after midnight as the majority of places in the area close its stock raises one full point. The service is friendly, 24 hour, neighborhood place. Decent burgers, decent omelets. Kind of dingy and grimy, frequented by NYPD, MTA and FDNY, and Manhattan College kids who are usually(but not always) loud, drunk, and rude. PS. NOTFORDATES.
