Delicious food. Ate all vegetarian. The special was a pumpkin curry which was wonderful. Pad thai not too sweet. Nothing was too, too spicy. Will definitely return.

This place is remarkably consistent. My wife and I come here whenever we want an inexpensive, albeit smallish, dinner. We frequently order the Pad See Ew, which is a standard but good version of the classic thai street food dish. The wide rice noodles are perfectly cooked and the sweet soy glaze is delectable. We also get the Khao Sarn chicken spring rolls and the wonton soup. I have tried their unique sausage with sticky rice appetizer and love it too. In short, dependable, comfortable, courteous and reasonably priced

Clean. Pad Thai and pineapple chicken both great. Dinner was around 11 dollars a dish. Waiter didn’t really understand the concept of allergies. They charged for rice when it should have been included.

Vegetable dishes were tasty as well as the appetizers. The lychee martini on the sweeter side was actually very good. Service was excellent.

We’ve been here a number of times. I particularly love their Khao Soi. My dc said the Chili Duck was very good. Quiet enough for convo.

A well decorated place with great staff. As we entered we were seated and asked for drinks right away. I ordered chicken Ga prow. The portion was huge! The flavors were sweet and spicy– exactly what I expect from thai food. I was quite surprised when white rice had to be ordered. The rice was a bit overpriced considering the cost of the entrée. My friend ordered the shrimp fried rice and that was good too. You could taste and smell the delicious wok fire that added a nice flavor to the dish. We got coconut ice cream to share and it was delicious. There were pieces of desiccated coconut inside making the texture perfect. They also gave us an extra scoop because we were sharing! Overall, great meal with nice sized portions. If you like thai, this place won’t disappoint.

Very impressed with the atmosphere and quality of food. The owner was born and raised in Thailand and has high expectations for her employees she hires. The duck was perfectly cooked and the Pandan cake with in house made coconut ice cream was a more than perfect finish to an amazing meal from start to finish.

What has happened to Khao Sarn? Once, it was my favorite Thai restaurant, now I’m doubtful that I’ll return after the other night. Skimpy portions, high prices and not nearly as flavorful as it used to be. So disappointed.

We were very excited to try this place because we wanted to try their Khao Soi but were highly disappointed. The restaurant is nice and located in a good location but the food is such a disappointment. We ordered the Khao Soi and I thought that it could’ve definitely been a thicker consistency. It was very watery and not tasty at all. The meat in the Khao Soi was barely cooked. We also ordered the shrimp as an appetizer and it was very average. The food is not worth the price. I’ve eaten Thai food from a lot of places and I wouldn’t even rate this in the top ten. I wouldn’t recommend it at all

This was always my favorite Thai Restaurant, food was delicious. I ordered take out a few weeks ago, worst Thai food I have ever eaten. Appetizers were burnt, Pad Thai was dry and tasteless it seemed like we git someone else’s leftovers… very disappointing.

Totally great service, really nice people. Let’s start with that. I was just sitting at the table for twenty minutes with a dead phone waiting for a friend, and they let me borrow a charger. So that was totally A+ wonderful. But while very nice, the good service isn’t really going to be enough to bring me back, mostly because the prices are just wayyyy too high. The food was fine, even good. I had the huge bowl of Tom Yum Soup, and it was warm and delicious as it should be. The quantity was about perfect as well. But the soup was $ 11.50, and that was one of the cheapest things on the menu intended to be a fully meal. My friend had the green curry, which looked good — and heavy on the vegetables, which is a plus! — but seemed a little on the less flavorful side. Oh, and it was a minimum of $ 14. Seriously? I could make a vat of thai curry for like $ 10. I could go down the street, and get Thai curry at a place that doesn’t take itself so seriously for $ 8.(It also seemed like you had to pay for rice, on top of the exorbitant cost of the dish, which toed the line of being offensive.) It seems like their primary differentiation from other Brookline Thai places was that the ambience is technically«Fancier.»(To be very clear — fancIER, not fancY.) Ok. Sure. But in the end, I find tacky décor and odd cutlery and place settings charming, whether on a date or out with friends or family. If you value that ambience at the $ 6 difference you will see between this place and its less sophisticated cousins, then Khao Sarn is your Coolidge Corner thai. I will say: their lunch menu looks much more reasonable, and the location is convenient — so maybe this is a place you should try for lunch.

I tried Khao Sarn today, and have to think that the people who say this place is good have very low expectations. Someone actually thinks this might be the best Thai on the east coast — really? I ordered the Hot Beef with the Tom Yum chicken soup. The soup had some impossibly thin slices of mushrooms with some OK chicken, but I didn’t find the broth very interesting. Although the menu claimed the Hot Beef had«tender slices» of beef, they definitely weren’t tender — although I have had worse. When the waiter asked how everything was, I mentioned that the dish did not match the menu description. He offered to bring something else, so I selected chicken basil. The chicken was somewhat better, but there was not a piece of basil to be found anywhere. Perhaps I should have selected a curry dish, as the two I tried were both exceedingly bland. They came with what should have been interesting vegetables, but these seemed somehow emasculated. I will say that the service was good, but I won’t be back for the food.

Their me karb pad Thai was so good. Also I had their sweet beef with sticky rice. Taste just like home. And their beef noodke soup is to die for. Beef shank is so tender

Khao Sarn is probably one of the more expensive Thai options in the Coolidge Corner area(many entrees and curries are $ 14+), but this is reflected in a nice seating area and ambiance. I’ve been to the restaurant twice for a sit down meal and thought that the dishes were good but not better than what I could have gotten elsewhere. This latest time I got the chicken massaman curry for take-out, and for $ 15 I thought it was just average. There was a lot of onion in it which I normally like but they were still a little too crunchy for my taste. The best part of the curry was the fact that they used sweet potato rather than the usual potato, but too bad there were very few pieces! I’ll probably go back for the sole reason of its convenient location.

Great vegetarian pad Thai. A place smart enough to realize that means no fish or oyster sauce so they gave it a lovely smoky flavor. YUM

Average Thai cuisine, I wasn’t happy that they didn’t have sriracha sauce ATALL. no bottles, not offered for sides. We were also given ice water but not asked to order drinks, we waited until our food came and had to ask then. The summer rolls were tasty, and they are great for sharing(4 pieces) with curried chicken inside. Good deals on lunch specials — we paid about $ 8/dish. Interesting tip, we were told by the waitress that the name of the restaurant translated to «white rice.» The dining room is clean and we were seated immediately, it’s convenient to stop at in Brookline, and we had no problem finding street parking on a Friday afternoon(5 minute walk away).

Just went here for the first time last night and was surprised with how good it was. The reviews were mixed so I was skeptical, but the food was actually really good. The waiting staff was good as well.

Eh, this place was ok but not great. I ordered 3 dishes for my friends and I to share for takeout — shrimp pad kee mao, veggie and tofu pad thai, and red curry with veggies. My favorite of these was the curry. It had a great flavor and was packed with veggies and tofu. My complaint is that you had to pay extra rice… at every other Thai place I’ve been to, rice comes with curry dishes, that’s just how it is. The shrimp pad kee mow was the dish I was most looking forward to but the biggest disappointment! It was spicy, but it had a different flavor than I’m used to. And the noodles were all clumped together, so it was like eating a solid block of carbs. It also had only a few veggies in it – red pepper and a strange round green vegetable with seeds that tasted kind of funny — and the shrimp in it was on the smaller side and overcooked. Overall, a fail. I had a few bites and was done with it. The veggie and tofu pad thai was good but nothing special. It had a good amount of veggies, and the flavor was good. The takeout was ok, but I’m not sure if I’ll be back, given all of the other good Thai options in the area.

I will preface this review by stating that pad thai is not simply a favorite food but an obsession of mine. Anytime someone asks what I’m in the mood for, the answer is pad thai. and more specifically, Khao Sarn! PADTHAI: They’ve got what I consider a solid, standard pad thai. by «standard,» I mean that it doesn’t have weird ingredients(I’ve had places include things like carrots and baby corn. they don’t belong!!) or use weird things like chile sauce to make the pad thai spicy(I always ask for spicy!). I get the tofu pad thai but my fellow diners will get it with chicken and shrimp. The tofu is fried perfectly– it’s firm, not that silken cheap stuff which doesn’t create as good a «skin», and bite-sized. The chicken is good quality white meat and the shrimp looks plump and scrumptious. The noodles are always perfectly cooked, too and I also appreciate that while the taste is totally traditional, it’s not overly fishy. APPETIZERS: I’ve had both the fresh and fried veggie spring rolls and they’re perfect. I love that the fried spring rolls are really thin and tightly wrapped, making for a super crunchy roll. The dipping sauce is also amazing– it’s the usual sweet/sour stuff but a little spicy! AMBIANCE/EXPERIENCE: This is one of the best parts… I’d take Khao Sarn any day if it were some hole-in-the-wall, but it’s actually a super clean, nicely decorated place. It’s the nicest looking Thai restaurant in Boston that doesn’t have tacky décor so it’s great for dates. PRICE: Despite being a little«fancier», the prices are totally standard and competitive with other Thai restaurants. Overall, I clearly recommend this place and whether you’re a regular Thai eater or not very familiar, Khao Sarn is a safe bet!

Fine Thai Cuisine in Coolidge Corner Khao Sarn is located in the center of Coolidge Corner just steps from the T stop and right at the intersection of Harvard and Beacon. Khao Sarn has a beautiful and elegant dining space perfect for intimate dinners or meeting up with friends. They offer the majority of the standards of Thai cuisine with a few special dishes as well. My wife and I had lunch at Khao Sarn but I have dined here for dinner as well. To start, we had the fresh rolls which had a great basil flavor, chicken, tender noodles, and a nice mild peanut sauce. For my meal, I had the pad see ew which was delicious with savory beef and perfectly chewy flat noodles. My wife had the chicken with vegetables and light oyster sauce. Both entrees were delicious and generously portioned. Khao Sarn is a great option for fine Thai cuisine. The dining space is clean and elegant making it perfect for the dine-in experience. Prices are quite reasonable as well.
