The food here is consistently SUPERB. The flavor, the freshness of the ingredients, the textures. Last night I had their trout entrée and it was to die for! And I don’t eat fish very often but this was sooo good! I chose the dish because it had rice, but everything on it was exquisite. I don’t usually write reviews, but this meal I had to mention and I must spread the word about this talented chef in Clinton Hill. Tasty stuff!

We came here at 8:56 for a listening party. I was all set to purchase the prix fix meal but the waitress told us the kitchen closed at 9. This was disappointing and confusing since there was a table that had just been sat for dinner. We rolled with it and asked the bar tender if we could bring Chinese food back. She said yes and that’s what we did. We came back to autour du monde to eat our takeout and hopefully get a nice glass of wine. After waiting at the NOT crowded bar for 10 minutes, watching the bar tender walk back and forth dancing to the music, I finally walked up to her and asked for a glass of red. She was very nice and named all the wine they had. I settled on a Malbec. She continued to dance and talk as we ate our food never even going behind the bar to get the wine. Meanwhile the waitress came by and started pushing our stuff off the table so she could clear the white table cloth. She didn’t ask she just grabbed the cloth and we had to hustle to grab our food. The bar tender then came by a moved our table – with us sitting in it – so she could make room for a dance floor. She dropped my coat on the floor, didn’t pick it up or say sorry. And, still no wine. I told my friend that if I didn’t receive my wine by the time the food was finished I would go across the street and get a beer. And… that is exactly what i did. So, only come to this restaurant if u bring your own food and drink. U can always use the bathroom which was clean enough though there is a big sign on the door«please don’t put any paper in the toilet.» Hmmmm. this doesn’t include toilet paper does it? I would have loved to like this place. If i would have at least gotten the glass of wine I ordered(by the way, other people definitely got their cocktails) i would feel differently. As it is I will tell anyone who asks to not go here. They not only missed out on money tonight but future money from myself and anyone I know. I will not be surprised when they go out of business.

OMG I came here with my Godmother for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed myself. My favorite part of the meal was my French onion soup. I have not had French Onion Soup that good since coming to this restaurant. If you are in the area definitely stop by, you won’t be disappointed. The next time we came we bought my niece and nephew who are constantly exposed to the language and they were learning french at the time and the waiter spoke with them in french and helped them to better understand and say different phrases.

Go for random special occasions in the neighborhood. The service can be a little spotty and slow because the actual owner of the place is usually the only server. The food is GREAT. The bf and I always lick our plates clean, and I mean CLEAN. The owner is a great guy who really cares about the food he’s cooking and serving up. He asks for feedback on each dish and wants the food to make you smile — he says that’s the whole purpose of food/eating/dining. There’s a full bar that seems to entertain a few regulars. I think this is a great restaurant in an under-appreciative neighborhood. Have only been for dinner.

I love this restaurant! I had 2 wonderful dinners here previously… the food was really good, the service was very friendly(though fair notice: this place doesn’t seem to be intended for a quick meal, but rather a nice-sit-down-have-a-conversation-drink-wine-and-enjoy vibe. If you’ve eaten in French restaurants, or France for that matter, you understand), and the atmosphere was conducive to a romantic date or an enjoyable meal with friends. So when I saw a deal with Groupon I took it… I knew we’d wanna go back for dinner so why not save a few dollars? We got no looks for the Groupon use at all, and we were served by the owner. So we enjoyed yet another fabulous dinner… we both ordered off of the prix-fixe dinner menu and everything was delicious and our plates were left clean. My only concern is the restaurant seems a bit pricey for the neighborhood… I really want them to make it but I’m worried their location is off for this type of restaurant at this price point. Hope I’m wrong though!

I admit, I’ve enjoyed a good brunch or two here at Autour du Monde. However, I’ve also settled for a mediocre dinner or two, as well. The prices aren’t great, so their groupon offers balance things out. Except for the fact that they don’t seem too pleased to honor the groupon. It’s annoying. Did they opt into the groupon deal, as in w/the consent of management, or did groupon just fabricate some kind of arrangement w/the restaurant? I assume Autour was in on the deal, so WHYTHE F do they whine and moan like a bunch of biatches when we mention the G word? I am tired of dealing w/whiny bitches when I am trying to enjoy a meal. I came here for my birthday brunch after trying to get reservations for a long list of other places. This place does take reservations for brunch, unlike Rose Water and other famous brunch places in downtown brooklyn. The staff was really friendly upon arriving and let us idle for quite awhile before making our decisions. It also helped that the room was pretty much empty. I had the special Autour du Monde Eggs Benedict. It was served with spinach on top of a poached egg and had some tomato hollandaise sauce on top. Instead of an English muffin, it had a brioche. The egg benedict was savory. I liked the twist on the original dish. The dish also came with some home fries. Unfortunately, since I had a large party, my dish came out room temperature. So, the home fries got cold pretty quickly. So, I can’t really comment on them. All in all, I had a good time, next time I hope to get a hot dish though.

Went hoping for a nice dinner on my own with my groupon but manager refused to honor my purchase as advertised saying that I couldn’t use it by myself even though there is no such stipulation on the groupon. He was completely unapologetic and basically said that even though it was advertised one way it wasn’t cost effective for him to allow single customers to use it. He then blamed groupon and made no attempts to rectify the situation. Problem is that his crappy attitude means that I will never go back. I will never tell anyone — hey I had a great dinner at ADM — we should all go back some time. I have been there once before for brunch, was not impressed, and was looking to give them another chance with dinner. Oh well. Do yourself a favor and avoid that place.

i had brunch with my girlfriend at Autor du Monde after discovering the place on Groupon. We went around noon on a Saturday. The front room was pretty packed with just one table for 2 available for us when we arrived and we were seated there immediately. There was also a whole back room of open tables available though. As we sat down, all the food going by us to neighboring tables looked amazing. i usually get more breakfast-y leaning foods at brunch, but i caught site of a huge delicious looking burger, so i ordered the ½ pound organic burger with vermont cheddar. My girlfriend ordered the Croque Madame which was an open sandwich with broiled black forest ham & swiss cheese on toasted brioche, with an egg on top. Her sandwich was very delicious. Im ordering that one next time. My burger was very messy, tasty and bloody(how i expected a big rare ½lb burger to be). The food was pretty well priced for the great quality food they served. We are of the belief that the drinks are just as(if not more) important than the the food at brunch. The drinks were good. They have a full bar, but we stuck to the brunch drin k menu. Between the two of us we had a couple bloody marys, a strawberry mimosa(for the lady) and even a Capirinha, too. The drinks were tasty, but they came in some pretty small glasses, just in little tumblers. At about $ 7 a pop, i would expect my bloody mary in a pint glass or at least a highball glass if they want to skimp a bit, but not a little tumbler. We ended up ordering a few drinks each and quickly drove our meal price up. I want to go back because the food was great. I will probably even go back soon to try the crepes, but those drinks size/prices is a big deal breaker for me. if they gave some larger drinks, i would have given this place 5 stars and would likely turn into some sort of regular. I started the review with 4 stars, but i am remembering how annoying those little bloody marys were and think this needs to go down to a 3. 3 stars.

I’m stunned, shocked, perplexed and amazed by the four and five star reviews this place has gotten. Overpriced lousy food, bad service, and strange décor. they should be expecting a visit from Gordon Ramsay any day now. K. and I live around the corner, but we always got a weird vibe from the place, and had avoided it since it opened. She’s on crutches at the moment, though, so we gave it shot last night because of its proximity to the subway entrance. Honestly, it was just plain lousy. It started well enough — the bald Frenchman who I took for the manager was very friendly, and there were 6 or 8 people at the bar who seemed to be enjoying themselves. There wasn’t anyone at the tables(plenty of room for a noisy four year old who began running laps around the room, ignored by her mother) but it was early(around 6:30) so I didn’t make much of that. The waitress was friendly, too, but it became quickly clear that she wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. She told us that there was a fish special but it wasn’t «ready yet» so we couldn’t order it, couldn’t remember our drink order(a Brooklyn lager and a glass of Chardonnay) and, when asked for a recommendation of an entrée, had to give the menu a long read over K’s shoulder, as if she’d never really looked at it before. We settled on sharing the calamari, followed by a burger for me and hanger steak for K. The squid was fine, completely ordinary but unobjectionable, and the burger was ok, too, though under-seasoned and boring, but the steak when it came was way past the medium rare she ordered, and tough as shoe leather. We called the waitress over and the manager jumped in immediately, trying to convince us that it was, in fact«medium to rare» because«you can see the blood». What an appetizing description! She asked for a salad to replace it, specifically saying that she was tired from hobbling around and didn’t want to wait for another steak. the frisee salad took a solid half-hour to appear, while my poor burger got cold. It was now 8 o’clock on a Friday, and the place was still nearly empty — just us and another two top. No wonder. As a final flourish, our check was wrong — they tried to charge us for an extra glass of wine. An honest mistake? probably… but I couldn’t shake the feeling that were trying to make up for the un-paid-for leather steak, and thought we wouldn’t notice. Adieu, Autour du Monde, and bonne chance.

I love this restaurant, but I can only speak on their brunch, which is delicious! The atmosphere is nice and very brunch-y. My boyfriend and I had initially passed by on an early weekend evening, but the place was empty, so we passed. We went back for brunch and it was a completely different feel. I had the Eggs Benedict which came with well-seasoned homefries and a tasty salad. Everything was delicious! My boyfriend had the steak and eggs which also came with homefries and salad. The presentation of everything was beautiful. I can’t wait to go back!

As much as I’d like to keep this place a secret, every time I eat here I’m won over by the delicious food and unhurried service, so much so that I feel obligated to write a review. Every course I’ve tried has been exceptional. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a meal of this caliber so reasonably priced. Not to say it’s cheap. It isn’t. It’s just not New York prices. The space is roomy, relaxed, and it has a full bar. I’d recommend a kir royale as an apéritif. My girlfriend and I have always been waited on by the owner, who’s very familiar with all the items on the menu and more than happy to talk about how your food will be prepared. If this place was in Carroll Gardens or Park Slope there would be lines out the door, but in Fort Greene’s nether-regions it makes for a nice out-of-the-way spot that’s not too crowded or hectic. I always come here knowing my meal is going to be an «event» rather than something I scarf down before trying to make a movie or a show.

I literally stumbled upon this restaurant and how lucky I was! The food(at least for dinner) is very farm fresh(a la Farm on Adderley). Highly recommend grabbing a bite here… I had the trout, and it was divine. My date had the short ribs, which he loved. Also highly recommend the pear & brie appetizer… Also, the service(by the owner himself) was very nice. Quite a find on a block that doesn’t have much to offer for eats(besides Subway)!

Enter stage right, 10pm. Kentucky and WVU(A**holes) were playing that night, and Anne H. and her boyfriend felt compelled to watch the whole game(Boyfriend is a UK alum). I was getting so hungry that our friend’s Husky-Lab mix was looking delicious. Thankfully, Autour du Monde was a quick hop and jump away and was not packed at all when we arrived(though that probably has less to do with how late we arrived– not with the quality of the food). We were seated by a charming native Frenchman who told us the specials. The daily fish, branzino, was tempting— but the second that I saw the menu I knew that I had to have some hot LAPIN* action. Thankfully, Josh got the branzino so that we could do the half eaten switch-a-roo. He also decided to start with the French onion soup. I may or may not have stolen a few bites of his soup. It was delicious. Buttery, cheesy, onion-y, all that good stuff. Dinner took a while to cook. Prolly like 45 minutes. It may have been less long, but at this point, I was about ready to run to Subway across the street and order a 5 dollar Italian footlong. Thank god social propriety took over and I was able to contain myself. My rabbit was excellent! Delicious sweet mustard berry sauce, crispy polenta cake, but most importantly, tender, succulent rabbit. My boyfriend loved his branzino as well. It was moist and filling, not flaky the way most white fish can be. I enjoyed my rabbit so much that I ‘forgot’ to trade with Josh. Sorry hun! Service was pleasant, the owner even apologized for the bongo noise going on in the background(it was Salsa night). I was too busy making sweet sweet love to my lapin to even notice. Autour du Monde serves up authentic, delicious, and most importantly, unpretentious French food at a reasonable cost. I’m so happy that I decided not to eat my friend’s dog and waited for the rabbit instead. *Lapin= rabbit; it’s the only thing I remember from college French besides«une douche,”-for obvious reasons.

I really want to love this place. I really do. They are right in my neighborhood and fulton street could use some good eats. The people who run it are super nice and friendly, and take pride in their restaurant. Service is good and the vibe is nice… Food, mediocre at best. Sadly, pretty much all of it is forgettable at best. Baked goods for some reason are consistently stale, salads are wilted and over dressed, and brunch items… bland and boring. I would have given them the two star rating but there is one saving dish this place serves.(yay!) The Burger. Amazing. It’s extra star good

Best kept secret in Brooklyn. One of my favorite restaurants in the area. I got hooked one night on a beet salad and have been thinking about it ever since. They change their menu every few weeks, and each time I go back its been delicious. I don’t think I’ve ever eaten anything there I didn’t think was amazing. The place is cozy and the service is fantastic — family run(I think) and very friendly! If they have bread pudding on the menu — get it. I’m not a bread pudding fan by any means but this is the one exception. I went with a friend who’s a bread putting fanatic. After I had a bite, I almost shoved him aside for it.

Tried this place for the first time last night and I can’t stop RAVING about it. The owners are the most friendly and wonderful people. The food… it was amazing. I was actually shocked, there usually aren’t many people in here so I thought… must not be good. It. is. amazing. Plus, since there are less people in it you get amazing service from the owner himself. It’s probably my new favorite restaurant. I HIGHLY recommend people give it a try! Also, it’s absolutely not cash only… I saw someone else on here write that. Maybe it used to be… but I paid with a credit card when I went.

My boyfriend and I had been wanting to try this place for a while, so when we found ourselves post-gym starving with no desire to cook, we stopped by. I was surprised at how large the space is — the main room has a bunch of tables which were nicely spaced and good sized bar, but there’s also another dining room off the side which looked to be larger than the main room. There were only a few other diners the night that we went, so we were all seated in the main room, but it’s nice to eat in a restaurant where you actually have a little space. No jostling elbows with your neighbors or overhearing other conversations that ruin your meal. [I’m looking at you, patrons at Taro sushi the other night. 6 inch voices when you’re at a restaurant, people… I don’t need to hear how you think living in a windowless bedroom is «slumming it.”] The place is nicely decorated — nothing crazy, not too dim, not too light. Modern, but tasteful. There was only one waiter working that night [I’m assuming he’s one of the owners as he was very french and also very professional] and I’m sure they were expecting a quieter Monday evening, but there was a table of 8 seated behind us so our service was a bit on the slow side. It was fine though, we weren’t in a rush, and we got everything we needed, it just took time. We skipped out on the appetizers [a little pricey] and ordered the Brooklyn Beer Battered Fish and Chips [I know, Fish and Chips at a French place…] and the Duck Confit. I thought the Fish and Chips were delicious — decent portion, perfectly crusted on the outside, juicy and seasoned on the inside. The hand cut fries were excellent. The Duck Confit looked good and my boyfriend confirmed it was, however, the portion was on the smaller side and it was slightly over-cooked for his liking. Prices were a little on the steep side for the area [$ 17 – 19], but the quality of the food was very good. Wines were about $ 7 a glass and they were out of a few that I would have liked to try. Overall, a nice, relaxed dining experience with good food. I hope that this restaurant does well and sees an increase in foot traffic now that they’re finally paving Fulton Street [hallelujah!]. I’ll definitely be back to check out brunch.
