The Conservatory has been amazing for me — helped me musically, boosted my confidence, given me the opportunity to play with others. The jazz staff is terrific(I’m sure the classical staff is, too). It’s a very welcoming and warm environment for kids and adult students, as well. This is really a neighborhood institution that needs to be supported!

Évaluation du lieu : 5 Manhattan, NY
This is an amazing neighborhood music school, with world-class teachers and ambitious programs. I attended a jazz clinic yesterday that was led by tuba virtuoso, educator, and luminary Bob Stewart teaching kids improvisation techniques on their instruments; this is amazing and if more people were exposed to stuff like this, the world would be a better place. There are performances by the masters; Saturday night Howard Johnson performed with his tuba quintet GRAVITY!!!
Yesterday evening there was a salon on multi-instrumentalism with Howard Johnson and Scott Robinson; between the two of them, they probably play most of the instruments ever invented – including cornet, flugelhorn, tuba; tenor, C-melody, baritone, bass, and contrabass saxophone; alto and bass clarinet; penny whistle; contrabass sarrusophone; theremin; and ophicleide. The Conservatory was founded in 1897 and their mission statement says: «The Conservatory promotes individual and community growth through music, and is committed to making music accessible to people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels.» This is a wonderful, welcoming place, and fortunately can be easily reached from Manhattan on the Q train.
