Came at 6pm on a weekday night with a friend. We had a Groupon for $ 40 worth of food(for $ 22). Good deal, good service, great food. I got a red broth soup(very spicy by the way), a salad with citrus fruits in it(amazing) and a pork taco(also very good and worth the wait). I’m not a vegetarian, but glad they have lots of options for them. The breakfast and lunch menu also looked good. Would love to come back. Only negative, I noticed that the waitress wasn’t filling anyone’s waters(and they were tiny cups). Only two other tables were present, so it wasn’t that busy.

People raved up, down, left and right about this place; especially about their fish tacos so naturally I had to see what all the fuss was about. The fish taco which was not bad, but it wasn’t really that great either. Like Donna A. said in her review the food was bland. I also tried the Torta de Milanesa de Pollo and it was the same case. The texture of everything was good, but there wasn’t any taste at all. Definitely a first and only experience for me.

I came across this place on groupon, and decided to get the groupon because the Unilocal reviews were pretty good. With the groupon, the restaurant required a reservation, so we made one for 7pm on a Thursday night. It was kind of weird they needed a reservation because the place was empty when we got there and the only people that came in were people who called in phone orders. The ambience is nothing special but the food on the other hand was delicious and authentic real deal Mexican food. For an app we got steak quesadillas and these gorditas de frijol which were black beans stuffed into tortillas and with queso fresco on top. The gorditas were like OMG I could of ordered them 100 more times and still wanted more, so delicious! For entrees we each got two tacos and a toastada. I got the bistec taco which was skirt steak and the pulled pork taco and than the tinga tostada. I loved the bistec taco and the tinga tostada, the pulled pork taco was okay. The food was good, really fresh and authentic, the ambience was super casual and the staff was really friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend for anyone to go and try it atleast once. Oh and on a side note they don’t have margaritas so don’t go there if you expect to get one, I had to learn that the hard way !

Had an AMAZING experience. A) I’m a vegetarian and my bf is a meat eater and there was something for everyone. B) You can tell by the menu, the presentation, and the taste that there is so much passion behind the food. They put a lot of heart into that restaurant. I also appreciate how well maintained the place was. So clean. Such a positive atmosphere. Over all A++ in our book. Definitely will be back! Best Mexican food in NYC so far!

I’ve never dined in, but I get delivery often. Delivery is reasonable time-wise and I’ve only had one order mistake which they corrected incredibly quickly. IMO, the food is almost like contemporary Mexican, and everything I’ve ordered is delicious. I really don’t think I’ve had a dud meal yet, though the tortilla soup was more like a sauce than a soup the time I tried it. I recommend the guac, squash blossom quesadilla, and any of the tort as. I’m looking forward to trying their brunch menu.

It’s your no frills basic mexican restaurant. Service was ok but ambiance is bare bones. On a hot summer day you won’t get A/C here but rather opened windows that made it quite muggy inside. In the end you come here for 2 items in my opinion. The fish tacos. Fried up well with ample tasty fish on a nice flat topped heated tortilla. Wonderful sauce that matched up well with the fish taco. The guacamole. Nice chunky avocados mashed up and flavored well with pomegranates which was this places special twist on it. A nice refreshing horchata can be had here as well with sprinkled cinnamon on top. If in the area for a snack or a small meal those would be the items to go for.

«Where can I find good Mexican food in Prospect Heights?» Citrico is your answer. Small, homey, and warm, Citrico is your place to get a Mexican meal that is beautiful to look at, beyond enjoyable to eat, and yet unpretentious. We started our meal with a very solid guacamole that had… wait for it… pomegranate seeds! I loved how the crunch, flavor, and red coloring complemented the guac. But what really stuck out were the duck and mushroom enchiladas — I never knew such a combination existed! The mole sauce was thick and smoky just the way I like it, and the crema, raddish, and tortillas were so lovingly arranged that I had to wait a minute before I could dig in. The savory duck and soft mushroom go together nicely, and for me, added an almost French touch to a Mexican standard. The space is a little small, but with such friendly service, it actually is an for Citrico. You feel relaxed here. So for Mexican food in Prospect… check out Citrico.

Nahhhhh. As my mom famously says: «This food ain’t got no taste!.» I tried the fish tacos that everyone raves about and I was pretty disappointed. With each bite I was scrambling to find that flavor and came up short. The BF agreed. Service was nice and swift but dang son. Where’s the flavor?

Lapin and I cam here for a early dinner on a Saturday afternoon. We tried making reservation several times but was told they were busy. After 4 attempts, we finally got a reservation but they said there might be a wait. When we got there around 5pm on a Saturday afternoon, the cozy place was deserted. We were the only diner for about an hour before it started raining. Then another group of diners joined us. The service was a bit slow and instead of clearing away dishes and refilling our water they kind of stood there giggling. They also were fooling around and dropped two dishes. We ordered the Camaron(shrimp) tacos, which were tasty. For $ 9.50 for three tacos, we though it should have came with something else. Lapin ordered the Camaron y Pulpo(shrimp and octopus) which he liked but he wouldn’t order it again. I ordered the Camarones al Ajilio(shrimp with garlic sauce) which was delicious but it was 3 shrimp with a tiny piece of bread. For $ 8.50, it would have been to have at least 3 pieces of bread to dip the leftover sauce. We got the Pescado Citrico which was good but a bit too citrus-y for our taste. It was definitely worth the $ 14 since it was a whole snapper and came with beans and rice(which they forgot to give us and we had to remind them several times). We also got the Jarritos in Orange and Hibiscus which was an interesting treat. The food was good and affordable but I wish we had better service and maybe then we wouldn’t be so 50⁄50 upon returning.

This is my new favorite Mexican restaurant in central Brooklyn. And by far, it has the most interesting vegetarian options of any Mexican restaurant I’ve been to in NYC. I just went tonight for the second time. The must have is the tostada de betavel(beets!) en mole. Such a unique and delicious dish. The mushroom tostada is also great and packed with flavor. Really enjoyed the gortidas de frijoles as well made from homemade masa dough. Tried the huazotle tonight which I’ve never had before. It was a fascinating stalk of Mexican greens soaked in an eggy batter and fried, served in a savory, rich broth. Totally new food experience, which I really appreciate. I’m hooked!

This place has a cozy charm about it, I like it. We started off with: — Guacamole: I really enjoyed the pomegranate seeds in this dish. It added such a refreshing quality to the guac. I did think there was too much black pepper though and the pomegranate seeds probably provided the much needed freshness to the palate. — Esquites(corn off the cobb with cohja cheese, chipotle-mayo, chili powder, lemon & epazote) — I know the description says«corn off the cob» but for some reason I was expecting corn on the cob with cheese/chili like a lot of other Mexican places. However, a corn soup-like dish appeared and I was pleasantly intrigued. I enjoyed it. For my main dish, I got the shrimp tacos, which were slightly fishy tasting and small shrimp, for the dish, I think its on the more expensive end as there were no sides that came with it and the tacos were small-ish.

There’s something here called the Tinga Quesadilla. It’s amazing, like a Mexican pizza. You should get it. But while you’re at it, try the fish tacos(yum!). My advice? Get the food to go, since it’s small and likely to be packed at peak hours.

This is a tiny restaurant in Prospect Heights. Unfortunately, I have to sit directly in front of the door because there were no other spots. I kept being cold because everyone kept coming in and out and the curtain that they had to block out the wind was not very helpful. The waitress, however, was very helpful she was pretty nice about it. I ordered two fish tacos, which were pretty delicious. I’m not normally a big Mexican food fan, but this meal was a pretty light this — — not full and heavy and greasy like some Mexican food can be. Are you even had it with the cilantro, which is something that I normally hate hate hate. I don’t remember exactly what my friend ordered, but she’s a vegetarian and she was happy that they had so many options. I I would definitely come back. Overall very solid place very fresh food wonderful ingredients. But I will not sit anywhere near the door and the weather is not nice!

Came here as a party of 5 with my family. The food was fresh and delicious, and a definite change of pace from your more typical burrito joint. The fish taco was the tastiest thing we had, and also quite large! The guac and chips is a great deal at $ 7 for a huge bowl of fresh guac. I wish they gave more chips, instead of offering a $ 1 re-fill on the chips. We also all shared the — Tinga Quesadilla(Shredded chicken in a tomato-chipotle salsa. Topped with crema, queso fresco and shredded lettuce.) It’s actually not a typical quesadilla, but like a large, crispy fried corn tortilla piled high with toppings. — chicken enchiladas, good, but not as good as their other dishes — Cemita de Res(Skirt steak, tomato, romaine lettuce, queso oaxaca, chipotle, onions and papalo). This was also a favorite! — Pollo Enchilado(Half a chicken baked in an onion, garlic, and orange-chipotle rub). This one was VERY spicy, so beware! There was no wait on a Friday night at 7, but by the time we left at 9pm there were several groups waiting to get in. It’s a small place, so make reservations if possible!

In a neighborhood filled with some amazing Mexican food, Citrico manages to go toe to taco(That actually sounds gross) with all of them. The new kid on the block manages to put out top notch Mexican grub, and has become part of my new rotation. It also is probably the one I’ll be ordering pick up from the most. The first time I came here is when I heard about their fish tacos. Word on the street was that they were the best around. I had to try them. Sure enough they are just as good, if not better, than the fish tacos at some of the aforementioned establishments in the neighborhood. A couple of weeks later they participated in a Prospect Heights beer crawl, and got them again. So good. Their guac is really good, and has some serious spice. The cemita sandwiches are huge! I got the skirt steak and I almost didn’t finish it. Almost… Recently after a long grueling 12 hour day at work, I ordered some pick up. I had some grub hub card that included $ 5 off. I created a grub hub account(I don’t get it, are people scared to look up a place’s phone number and actually call them?) and placed my order with the $ 5 off code. After placing it, I called them up to ensure everything went through and they said I was all set. I got in my car and flew over. When I got there they said there was a problem with the order, and something grubhub did messed it all up. Everything with the food was fine, but they didn’t recognize the $ 5 off promo. They were super cool about it, and took $ 5 off themselves. When I got home, my dish was still hot. The Enchiladas de Pato y Hongos, duck and mushroom enchiladas in a mole sauce, was phenomenal. A must try. The only knock on the joint is the décor. This is a very casual, laid back place. This is a place to order from, get a good bite to eat with your friend, or your significant other when it’s not a special night and you don’t care about that stuff anymore. It’s not a dump, far from it, but it lacks a certain ambiance you may want if you’re taking someone out for a special occasion or you want to impress them. So plan accordingly and the next time you’re in the mood for Mexican, try Citrico.

Okay — you should stop reading this review right now and RUN(don’t walk!) to Citrico! What a fantastic little place. The food is out of this world delicious and cheap, with huge portion sizes! It’s a tiny space with an open kitchen: there are probably ~10 tables and there’s space to sit at the bar and watch the chefs cook. I was fortunate to have a $ 40 groupon, but their prices are so reasonable that my boyfriend and I had to purposefully over-order to get past the $ 40 mark. We took enough food home for at least 2 more meals. Besides some non-alcoholic traditional Mexican beverages, they also have sangria and a few beers. We ordered: Horchata($ 3) — Delicious, definitely get it if you’re a fan! Guacamole($ 7) — Pretty good! They add pomegranate which gives it a little something extra special. My boyfriend loved it and practically ate the entire bowl himself. Esquites($ 4) — Corn off the cobb! I was super excited to try this since I can’t eat corn on the cob right now and I was just a tad disappointed– it’s really watery, almost more like a corn soup. The flavor was different and interesting for sure though. I liked the spices and the taste, but my boyfriend was not a fan. Chicken Tinga Quesadilla($ 5!!) — This is a total steal for the price and probably my favorite bite of the meal. GETIT! Torta de Milanesa de Pollo(8!) — This is a hefty sandwich for the price! The flavors were spot-on. I loved the breaded chicken, avocado and jalapenos on a nice soft, squishy bun. Yum, I’d definitely get this again. Chile Relleno de Tinga($ 13) — We also really enjoyed this dish– it was moist, flavorful chicken on top of a poblano pepper with a tasty mole sauce. I’d get this again for sure too. Carlota($ 5) — YOUHAVETOGETTHIS. It’s an incredible citrus cream pie. Forget key lime pie– this is way better! A little sour and a little sweet, it’s perfection. TL;DR: You need to go here!

Cute spot with tasty Mexican food – albeit still fresh/healthy tasting. The tortilla soup was excellent(and spicy!) and I’ve also had fish tacos which were very fresh and light, in spite of being fried. The sangria was delicious yet strong – a mix of red wine, apples and mandarin orange wedges. When I was here recently we split a side of guac and the corn dish with queso? and both were quite good. The corn appetizer was a little watery so I might skip that next time but the ingredients were still clearly high quality. We also split two desserts: key lime cake(?) and flan. I’m not a huge fan of flan but the cake was light and tangy. You wouldn’t really go to Citrico for the atmosphere(it’s pretty casual) but for a cheapish dinner with friends it’s great.

New go-to Mexican spot, fo sho. Seriously, you could tell all the ingredients were fresh and high-quality. I got a $ 4 fish taco which was huge, and a $ 5 chicken tinga quesadilla which was also huge. Plus an app of black bean gorditas, and I was fully satisfied at the end of the night. Everything was delicious. The gordita was crispy and flaky. The fish in the fish taco was nicely cooked and the chipotle sauce was yummy. The quesadilla, with its shredded chicken and queso fresco, omg. Super cheap for the big portions you get. My bf got the beef cemita, and the beef was sooo tasty, I don’t know what they must’ve marinated it in. Miiiiiinor issue: we were at the table by the door and I know once it starts to get cold, you’re not gonna wanna sit there. But service was great, food was amazing, prices were surprising… I will be back.
