My first attempt at trying Peruvian food and it was not bad! We went there with a big group of people and pretty much took over half the restaurant. The table was covered with white paper and there were crayons for people to draw on them. I thought this was a bit weird /unique experience especially for a group of people mostly in their mid-late twenties. The food menu was very extensive and they had a glossary in the back explaining some of the Peruvian foods which was kinda neat! I ordered the Arroz con Choros, which was steamed bass with mussels with risotto on top and a side of potato. The fish tasted very weird and it i thought the taste was a little off. The mussles were very yummy and so was the rissotto. The side of potatoes tasted a little bit undercooked. I think the one thing i would reccomend from this place are the plantains. They were really delicious.

The menu has tons of options, so making a decision was tough. My salmon was pretty good, with interesting green mashed potatoes. The vegetarian platter was just meh. Everything was a bit dry and lacking strong flavor. The risotto was actually really good. The best thing by far was the flan, I would highly recommend just getting that! We had nice service and the place itself is pretty casual, but I don’t think my expectations were met, especially after being in Peru.

This resturant is terrible! One of the worst restaurants ever! They are disgusting, I found a FLY in my salad. I didn’t even get to taste my salad. I thought it was just a little burned piece from my chicken, no it was a huge fly. Which means they didn’t look over my food before sending it out to me. When I called to speak to the people at the restaurant to tell them about my food dilemma, the owner was rude, he basically didn’t care. He gave us trouble trying to refund us our money. We had to call 3 times before he agreed to give us our money back and the tip from the delivery person.(Why should we tip a restaurant that is nasty and dirty) The owner hanged up the phone 2 times before he send someone with our full refund. The person picking up the food had a terrible attitude also. Terrible place I would never recommend it to anyone. Please don’t come eat here! This place deserves no stars!(Images of the bug are up also so you could see) also other reviews speak about water bugs and flies. Think twice before coming.

So I usually don’t give bad reviews but this restaurant deserves one. My boyfriend and I were walking through the Cobble Hill area when we came across this place. Everything was going fine appetizers were ok he had the boiled potato with cheese sauce and I had the chicken empanadas. To drink he had the passion fruit juice which was way too sour. I had a cuban martini which was delish. Lunch I had the rotisserie chicken dark meat and it was dry and pink. My boyfriend had the spicy steak I believe it was and he said it was so so. Now here is where it all went bad for us. As we just finished eating our lunch my boyfriend points out this big water bug that was crawling in my direction. I notify the staff and one goes running to the back saying«this is embarrassing» the other blames it on the people that live up stairs. So now I get up because the water bug literally crawled where I was sitting. We go to have a seat at the bar and the chairs were so filthy I didn’t even want to place my behind on it. As we were sitting at the bar my boyfriend then points out yet another water bug crawling on the floor. It was seriously the most disgusting thing ever! We will never dine here again! Also to make matters worse we were not accommodated in anyway!

Decent Peruvian food, but definitely not the best I’ve ever had(you want good Peruvian food, go to La Mar in Lima or Limon in San Francisco). I’ve been here on a few occasions and tried a few different things — the ceviche mixto isn’t bad but didn’t taste as fresh as it could have(it didn’t make me sick, so it was fine after all). The traditional lomo saltado was probably one of the better things on the menu — a nice salty cut of meat with a bunch of French fries sopping up the juices — delicious with a bit of rice and lightly sauteed tomatoes and onions. Be sure to ask for it with a fried egg on top! The rotisserie chicken was okay if not a bit dry. Probably not too different from the kind you can pick up from the supermarket to be honest. I tried a bit of the snapper which was actually very nice — the delicate texture with bold black bean sauce on top was a nice mix. For dessert, the flan and rice pudding are both winners.

I’ve always been obsessed with Coco Roco’s chicken. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Ask for their green sauce/hot sauce. Obsessive. Their paella is a bit weak Bleh But spinach mashed potatoes. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm They ran out of tostones the night I was there, how do you run out of tostones???

I been here twice… The 1st time I has the fish which was just good to me… It was missing something in my opinion and the last time I had the beef stew which was great. I had also tried my friends bakes chicken which was also really good. I love their drinks. I tried some kind of berry mojito and it was soooooo tasty! I would def. come back here. Con– Oh yea when they seat you they are suppose to put some plantain chips n this sauce in the beggining for free and when I asked about why we werent served it our waiter said they ran out :/…like really … It was probably no later than 4pm and you guys ran out of it smh.

I never tried to cook Peruvian before but, after my meal here, I feel I can. Canned black beans, under-seasoned and untrimmed lamb shank, generic sauce, and mashed potatoes so green my friend made a Dr Seuss reference. Service was good but not the food.

Came here for the first time for a friend’s bday. For a few of us, the average per person came out to be about 40 something. Not bad, since you are including drinks AND a bunch appetizers to share. Not to mention, our entrees were basically seafood. My fave part of this experience was the plaintain chips and mole sauce. YUUUUMMO!!! I kept asking the waiter to refill, after a while, they were getting annoyed at me. I am sure I am not the only one who does that! haha! I made some small talk with the manager so he was very friendly. Bathroom are spacious but the floors can get wet. I give it that many stars because food portions were big, good wait staff and I had a nice time. Sometimes on weekends, I noticed they have a live musician… which can get loud.

I like quite calm places with a great aroma of food. Coco Roco had something about it that drew me more that the typical Pio pio. I ordered the ceviche, half chicken w/chicken and rice, calamari and the platanos. Everything was quite typical of a Peruvian meal, but that’s what makes a meal homely. The service was quick, comfortable, and the meal was def enjoyable. I left one star off because there simply wasn’t enough space on the table for me and my girlfriend to eat at once and there was no accommodation for that– otherwise, I high recommend this!

Coco Roco is not someplace I’ll be returning to any time soon. When we walked in, the music was so loud, we couldn’t understand the host until he started shouting. Strike one. Then despite having a reservation for a Friday evening, they scrambled to find us a table. Strike two. We asked to have the music turned down, which it was — for all of about 2 minutes — before being cranked up to eleven again. Sitting next to my date, I couldn’t hear a damn thing she said, nor she me. We ordered drinks, which didn’t make it to the table until after our appetizers. The appetizers, both off the ceviche menu, were both so acidic they couldn’t be eaten. It was a few slivers of fish in a soup of lemon juice and vinegar. It lacked any seasoning, and all balance… totally unpalatable. The entrees were a hot mess. One was the Arroz con Choros, steamed bass over a mussel and cilantro pilaf. The fish was completely unseasoned, the pilaf was a reheat — overcooked rice and shriveled, desiccated mussels. The other was the Bistek Montado, a grilled skirt steak served with a fried egg, plantains and rice. The steak was absolutely bland. The egg was fried to the point that not only were the yolks hard, but the white had burned to a crisp. I needed the steak knife to get through it. The rice was the same reheated mess as the other entrée, but without the dry fish turds. Nothing had been seasoned. There was no salt anywhere except on the rim of my date’s cocktail glass. The service was abysmal. Getting the waiter’s attention was like trying to hail a cab in Williamsburg at 2 in the morning. He was definitely more intent on getting smiles from the two girls at the next table than doing his job while the rest of the staff alternated between schmoozing singles and hopping out for a smoke. By the time the second round of drinks made it to the table, we were finishing our entrees. Empty plates sat around on the table. The appetizer plates weren’t removed until the entrees came. we left before the entrée plates were ever cleared. In the end, this is not a place for dinner. It’s a place for desperate wait staff to trying and find a hook-up.

Coco Roco came through when I was in need of a fortifying brunch meal, so I could wake up and be human again. Both my boyfriend and I got the steak and eggs brunch meal, which came with either a mojito, mimosa, or bloody mary. My bloody mary was tasty, though it had a bit of an odd aftertaste that I think more spice could have helped. My boyfriend’s mojito was delicious, though, and packed a serious punch– at the end of the meal, we both had to take a couple of laps so that we’d be able to drive home, whoops! The steak itself was delicious, and was perfectly medium rare, just like I wanted. It was smeared liberally with chimichurri sauce, and that was a great garlicky, herby bite. My eggs were nice and runny as well, and the maduros on the side were AMAZING. There was also a mixed green side salad that made me feel like this was somehow healthy. When we were done, I couldn’t resist getting the bread pudding – don’t I get to eat dessert after every meal?! And it came out, steaming hot and gloriously sweet. Nomnomnom. I was full from this meal basically for the whole day, so it was a lot of bang for your buck, and I look forward to returning and trying the huevos rancheros.

Oh the staff was so amazing!!! Super attentive and they knew every damn thing about the menu. I can’t say enough about the wonderful service :) The food was divine, my salmon dish was cooked perfectly and my friends skirt steak had him raving. The back patio is very romantic, if you get the chance, grab a table there!

Had a lunch date here last week and found this place to be mediocre. Don’t get me wrong, the staff were pleasant but everything else was«ok». I had roasted chicken, rice, beans, plantains, salad, and a mimosa. It was decent.

Viva la Peru! Coco Roco is a wonderful little Peruvian restaurant tucked in Cobble Hill of Brooklyn. The décor is vibrant and fun featuring Mayan statuettes and photos of all things Peru. The seating is cozy and comfortable and there is a lovely outdoor patio in the back fenced in with twinkle lights and colorful umbrellas. The food is authentic and delicious! We loved the crispy, light plantains served before the meal. The lime Ceviche was absolutely scrumptious! The roasted chicken and grilled snapper were both very tasty, the beans and rice were flavorful, and the mixed seafood in a ginger sauce was delish. Our native Peruvian friends were impressed. My only minor complaints were that the service was very slow, even though the dining room was relatively sparse. Additionally, the restrooms were a bit of a mess. Other than that, a great experience!

A couple of friends were in from out of town, and we were looking for somewhere unique that was close by. I had never tried Peruvian food before, and the pictures and reviews on Unilocal!tempted us just enough to give Coco Roco a try. So what was the verdict? Well, my food was just okay, but the rest of my party thoroughly enjoyed theirs… and all the drinks were tasty, and the service was good, too. I got the Churrasco Coco Roco(grilled steak topped with chimichurri). The steak and chimichurri sauce were fine but nothing spectacular. Furthermore, the fries were not flavorful at all and very disappointing. One of my dining companions got the fried snapper(the fried whole fish picture you can see in the Unilocal!pictures for Coco Roco). I got to sneak a bite, and it was very delicious! I’d definitely check that out if I returned. For an appetizer, we got the chicken tamale. It was unique in that it was overstuffed and sized to share. It was tasty, but it could have been hotter(temperature-wise). The best item of the night goes to the drink they call the Diablito. It was a a chili pepper salted rim with Tequila añejo, blood orange, passion fruit, & lemon juice. Delicious!

I’ve never been here for dinner but of all the places on Smith this is definitely the best bang for your buck as far as brunch goes. Huge meal with unlimited coffee, an alcoholic beverage for a mere $ 14. My only complaint is that there aren’t enough vegetarian options on the menu. Great service though and great location.

After a day of tasting food in Park Slope, some Peruvian food was called for. I went in craving for Tostones and Arroz con pollo. The menu made me jump way past my taste bud craving. Ceviche con marasco… amazing. Calamari, squid, shrimp clams, and guacamole. A seafood paradise. The rotisserie chicken was unbelievably tasty. Similar to Columbian, but definetly a different flavor. The tres leche definetly sealed the deal.
