Went in to check what a true old-style dive bar felt like. It’s a cheap, bright and smelly place. Points for nostalgia though.

been here a couple of times and I liked it. I had my first jagerbomb and Irish car bomb here. the drinks are cheap and from what I remember they do have a party room in the back that has a decent space. I can’t really comment on the food here since I’ve only drank here. overall it’s a nice place to have a couple of beers. no more no less.

Great bar. Great people. Irish and old school Brooklyn through and through. If you’re around, stop by and feel life. Also, If you’re lucky enough Christina will make sure that you have some luck on the way out.

Great place to have a drink. Classic old school Irish bar… the kind of place that is getting hard to find. Want to go out for a drink with one of your bros this is definitely the place unless you have a problem with an Irish brogue .buy if you do maybe you shouldn’t be going to a place called the Irish haven.

I get that this is a dive bar and everything, but I disagree with all the good reviews. The only positive is the drinks aren’t city prices. They let underage people in, the place is seedy, and seedy people hang around here. I know it’s famous but I honestly don’t know why. I wouldn’t want to be caught here alone.

This bar been around forever my mom use to go here back in the early 80s when they were less asian people in the area. I remember me and my brother getting kicked out when I was 5 and snuck in there. This is a landmark

Best local bar in Sunset Park. One of best Jukebox’s in NYC! The clientele and the bartenders do have the propensity for grumpiness but depending on the night that can be part of this bars charm. the drinks are relatively cheap they have TVs if you want to watch a game, and as mentioned before the Jukebox is amazing. other than the sometimes unfriendliness of the bartender this is one of the best local dives in Brooklyn

Great irish pub! a lot of culture, great music both live and jukebox. Nice back room for parties, and events. Great beer selection, all kinda of liquor and friendly owner and workers. Good old-brooklyn feel. The owner Matt was kind enough to let me film in the back room for a brooklyn college short film. Departed was filmed there too so this was definitely a great experience as a patron and filmmaker.(Mainly because my crews motive was a few beers after wrap up!) All these thing mixed with an awsome welcoming made for a great time.

Great bar. Very accommodating for events. I took part in a fund raiser for a non-profit org at Irish Haven a few weeks ago and it went very smoothly thanks to the competent and professional staff. The event had a lot of moving parts: food, donations, raffles, and karaōke, all of which was pulled off thanks to good planning and careful execution. The owner/bartender cares about his patrons and he cares about his bar, and it shows. It was a pleasure being there. It’s also just an awesome bar in all the ways you want a bar you frequent to be: cool people and affordable drinks and a bonus you’ll never get in a Manhattan bar: a pool table with plenty of room to play.

The Irish Haven is an awesome spot if you are looking for a fun night out. From their themed weekday events such as Taco Tuesday and Trivia Wednesday, to their beer pong tournaments and karaōke nights, you can’t go wrong on any given night. My friends and I spend countless nights there, as the owner and bartenders are super friendly and will make you the best drinks! The Irish Haven is always our first bar of choice and they never disappoint. I recommend this place to anyone and everyone that enjoys some good times, good music and great company!

I love the Irish Haven. Great people, great events and alcohol, a recipe for a truly good time that you can only get there! If you can go on a karaōke night I guarantee you won’t regret it, but every night is fun! Sundays have live music, free tacos on Tuesday … basically there is no bad night at the Haven. Check it and see for yourself it’s the real deal.

This part of town hasn’t jumped on the gentrification bandwagon yet. This pub is a trip. It’s a great mix of townies, tourists, newbies, and hipsters. When we went there, my friend got me a drink that ended up being fifteen bucks. The woman was multiplying the cost of a shot together instead of the price of the drink that’s on the price list. I told the owner, and he gave us some money off of our next round to make up for the difference. When I was in Killarney last year, a pub put me onto Greenore. I asked a bartender at Haven for it one time when I came to visit, but he dind’t know what I was talkinga bout. When I came another time, the owner knew exactly what I was talking about. The owner is well versed in all things Irish and has spent substantial time there. Not that it matters for a dive, but it’s pretty cool. I was beyond impressed that they had this, especially after my earlier disappointment. So, obviously, their staff needs some training, but it’s a dive. I’m not coming here expecting five star service. Just give me some good music and company, and I’m a happy camper. They even have live trad music! They have a mini kitchen area that looks like it’s for private parties. They also have pool in the back. The men’s bathroom is near the end of the bar, so that’s gross. Nothing ruins a refreshing drink more than hearing a guy who has had one to many use the restroom. I’ve been here with a group of eight, a group of three, and alone. It’s been fun each time, a wonderful part of the neighborhood.

This cash-only Irish Pub has an air of authenticity. It’s not polished, decorated-to-death, and over priced. If you’re looking for a down to earth watering hole to go have some brews with your buddies — this is it. There is a jukebox and a pool table if you’re into that sort of thing. Personally I go to pool halls to play pool, and bars to drink, but to each their own! Some nights of the week there are theoretically free tacos and other«tapas» to be had, but I’ve never been here during a weekday yet! There are some drawbacks however — for example no food(other than the above)! No cocktails either, which may account for the patrons being predominately male. The beer selection is good, not great. Men’s bathroom stalls have«saloon doors»(panels missing) so yeah… keep that in mind.

An acquaintance once told me, he does not stop here anymore, I was shocked, so I had to stop and find out why. They changed permanent staff we know some months back. There seems to be a continuous change in bartenders(mostly barmaids) who are not flexible and cannot run the bar. I was not there 10 minutes and a street wino who came in, began to shake down customers. for money to buy drinks, myself included, and he was not immediately tossed out. I was surprised to see a customer having to do it because the barmaid was deep in conversation. It must have been the social hour here. When Jane was here the derelicts were ejected faster then fast. My favorite quote from her: if you act up, you’re out of here, no ojective case, just the way it should be. Customers should have a place to relax.

It’s like some place out of a movie. The Departed, perhaps? But really, imagine an old school bar mixed with new school Brooklyn. You have the regulars, you have the grad school students grading papers, you have cheap beers/shots, you have pool tables, you have a jukebox, you have a section with diner seating, you have young female bartenders, you have that old guy in the corner.

My favorite dive bar ever. Picture a better version of Paddy’s Pub from Always Sunny In Philadelphia… Great prices, Great specials, Complimentary Food(Taco Tuesdays, Mac and Cheese Mondays, Irish Soda bread on weekends, etc…), surprisingly decent selection of tap beers, Karaōke/DJ/Live music on weekends, Pool tables, Beer pong, oh, and The Departed was actually filmed here(no bullshit!) Owners/Staff are awesome, always accommodating and super friendly(unless you’re a dick, then Mike D. might have to throw you a beating). Regulars are a cast of characters worthy of their own reality show. Irish Haven is the best bar to go to be yourself… a drunk yourself, but yourself nonetheless.

Cheap drinks(including Magners on tap for the non-beer drinkers like myself), free pool, and in the presence of «The Departed» greatness… you just can’t beat it! Apparently they have mac&cheese and taco specials on certain days.

I was not very impressed by this bar. The bar tenders seemed like they weren’t very attentive and didn’t really care about filling up your cup/pitcher all the way. A good deal of foam was left at the top of my pitchers. Speaking of pitchers, a pitcher of Coors is $ 12 and pitcher of Blue Moon is $ 16, which is decent I guess if I had received pitchers with less foam. The bar was really a bunch of hipster types, which is cool if you like that but that’s not really my style. I guess it’s because Sunset Park is the new cheap place to live and this is one of the only Irish bars in this Mexican/Puerto Rican/Chinese neighborhood. I will say I did enjoy the Jukebox in this place. After enough drinks, I was o\all over it. Except one guy decided to buy 10 songs before me and I had to wait forever. But that’s life. It’s also nice they have a pool table in the back in case you want more to do. Overall, this bar was just meh. Poor bar tenders, the crowd, and honestly how dead it was on a Friday night are reasons I wasn’t a fan. I did hear that they do have free food during the week(Taco nights, etc), but I’ve never been. Maybe this place is better on weeknights.

Legitimate bar with good music. There’s a pool table in the back and lots of space for groups. The bartender pours a mean Guinness with just the right amount of head. She played Business Time by Flight of the Concords. I will just leave it at that.

This is my favorite neighborhood spot for a pint! The bartender(Mike) is always friendly and approachable, the rest of the staff is friendly as well. The fact that it happens to be a 3 – 4 minute walk from my house is nice, as it leaves little chance of me accidentally and drunkenly stumbling into the wrong house.(Process of elimination baby!) I wish their selection of beer was a bit more expansive, from memory I recall there being 4 – 5 tap selections including Bud, Bud Lite, Guinness, Sam Adams and Sam Adams Seasonal, Smithwicks and Magners Cider. Not a terrible selection, but they don’t take the(brace for snobbiness here) TRUE beer lovers into consideration and satisfy our thirst for the good stuff(IPA). Please get IPA on tap! kthx:) ^_^ I come in here every once in a while(despite the IPA-less environment) because the atmosphere is friendly, people actually acknowledge your existence here and the other patrons are usually fun to talk to. They have events sometimes, like all-you-can eat/drink, unsure of what the prices are for those. Price for a pint at any time of the day is 5 $ which is the same as happy hour prices at most other places. They have apparently been around for some time, and I was told there was a movie shot here. They even have their own t-shirts and Ireland memorabilia. They have a jukebox and a pool table, which is awesome! The box is full of great music by Def Leopard, Pink Floyd, Metallica, etc as well as several other genres. I think they have food here too, but I have not tried it yet.
