Had fish tacos & a glass of white wine last night. The flavoring was good, but they use tilapia — one of the crappiest fish around. I tried two of their three white wines — not impressed by the wine either. Maybe I just ordered the wrong items, but my stomach’s been upset since last nights meal. :(

The best part of this place is the service, the bartender with the pony tail was extremely nice and patient. The food is not all that good, had some shrimp ceviche and it was not very good

Great flavor but small portions, especially for the price/location. Wait staff was a little weird… They told us when we sat down that we might have to move to another table, but that there was a 90% chance we wouldn’t have to. Whaaaa? We asked if we could sit at a different table that was open, and they just told us to stay where we were. Kind of weird, yeah? Definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again…

Wait staff is pretty intense and aggressive about Spanish pronunciation and telling you that you’re sitting in the wrong place. Realllllly over priced for what it is and don’t go hungry. One of those places that thinks it’s more classy than it is. $ 100 for a meal that should have been 60/70z

Great place very comfortable and friendly staff. the food is off the hook amazing small portions but with great taste. The drinks are not that strong bug you can ask to for drinks to be made o your taste. The music is very comfortable you are able to keep a conversations while eating very cute place for a date

This is a good place to have great Mexican food. I miss Ciudad de Mexico and its awesome cuisine; fortunately, I have Mesa Coayacan to cure the longing.

Based on the food and drinks alone, I would give this place five stars. I started with an order of three tamales: chicken mole, tilapia and guajillo salsa, and pork with raisins and almonds, and they were sublime. Next, I tried the vegetarian chile rellenos, a poblano pepper stuffed with zucchini, carrots, grilled corn, spinach or verdolagas(seasonal), covered with red tomato salsa and topped with pumpkin seeds, and it, too, was one of the best versions of this dish I’ve ever had. Last, the margaritas are potent and delicious… no skimping on the tequila. Nevertheless, I have to subtract a star. Reason #1 is because the portion were SO small: I needed to order two entrees to feel even partly full. Reason #2 is that the food and drinks were too pricey given the portion size. Reason #3 is that although my server was very friendly and responsive, another employee gave me attitude when I asked if the front door could be shut – temps were in the 50s and I was being blasted with cold air. Would I return? Probably; I will likely dream about those tamales. However, maybe they can be accompanied by some rice and beans?

I had such a pleasant brunch here. The jalapeño infused Jamaican margaritas are delish! Everything was fresh. The tacos are filling and flavorful as well as the corn and Mexican rice. I will definitely return.

This was a last min. spot to go into to celebrate my b-day. I ordered a Mushroom & cactus salad taco which was really strong. its an acquired taste.(I had to make it vegan comes with sour cream) 3 small tacos comes with one meal and is pretty filling. My date ordered the fish tacos and was happy with his meal Gave it a 8 out of 10. It comes with your choice of 4 sauces with different levels of spicy which was fun to play with He also tried a Limeade for the first time which was pretty good. The ambiance is nice, but to be fair this was a quick stop which is why it has 3 stars. I wish I could have more of there food and drinks to really push it for you but It was nice enough to go back. Be prepared to spend some money and entre could close up to 20 bucks and drinks(alcohol) are $ 16 Ill give it another shot xoxo c.

Service was whatever, food is okay. We got here on a Saturday night, got seated right away(yay) at the communal table, but it took awhile for the waitress to come back and take our order. She didn’t refill our drinks the entire time, and I had to find her to ask for her to give us more water. We got tacos, quesedillas and guac to share and the total came out to be $ 40. The portions were very small, food tasted alright, definitely not worth the money.

Solid enchiladas, margaritas and guac! Prices are a bit high for that neighborhood but I am not complaining because the quality was good

Came here to check out the Mexican food. I’m pretty harsh when it comes to Mexican food having been born and raised in Jalisco. al pastor tacos; tortillas are thin small and well done. The meat was nicely marinated and topped off with pineapples; would have been better if they had been seasoned. Ensalda de nopal; terrible and that’s really hard to mess up. cucumber margarita disgusting… I couldn’t drink it was so awful. Enchiladas verses vegetarian; if you get these get chicken. Veggie ones are pointless but I could tell they had potential. Elote asado; bad soggy over boiled and under grilled… So my search for good Mexican continues. So far only Cosme had been 4 star. Sadly they are more $$$$ And not exactly a casual dinero spot.

Sorry Mesa Coyoacan, I thought I reviewed you over the years. I like the pina margaritas for some heat and good tequila. The guacamole is excellent and the many varieties of salsas will catch your attention if you like a variety and heat. I’ve enjoyed their Octopus ceviche, chips & guacamole, Enchilada Verde, Enchilada Rojas, skirt steak, the shrimp tacos or beef tacos, and their Ribs. I think the food has good imagination and the drinks are just as solid. If you want good regional Mexican food with excellent drinks then this is a great option. Parking is easy, the Graham L train stop is right outside, and the Metropolitan Ave G train is 4 blocks away.

Went here yesterday, omg so yummy. I had the torta de carne Asada was amazing ! Steak cooked very well, bread fresh and soft. Oh and they served four different sauces from mild to very spicy . What I loved most was their cocktails, some made with a smoky tequila .i would definitely go back, wait staff was very polite as well.

We arrived around 7 pm on a Saturday night and put our names in for the hour wait. We were called back about 45 minutes later and were given a nice table in the back. The restaurant is small but the décor is fantastic and festive, filled with Mexican art, an abundance of plants, and sparkling lights. The cucumber margarita I had was average(I also found it to be too sweet) but the food was exceptional. We started with the ceviche de pulpo(octopus) and it was deliciously tart and tangy served with some of the crispiest tortilla chips I’ve ever had. One entrée we tried was the spiced lamb, cooked in a banana leaf, and served with cactus salad and beans. The meat was unbelievably tender and flavorful. The second entrée with the pollo in mole sauce served with beans and rice. This mole was outstanding and as good as any I have had in Mexico. Portions were large and filling. My only complaint was the service, which is why I am bringing the stars down from 5. The food alone definitely deserves a 5 star rating but the service was extremely rushed. We were given no time to relax from one course to the next and it was obvious that they were pushing to have a quick table turnover. I will definitely return for more delicious food but only on a week night when we can enjoy ourselves more leisurely.

Mesa Coyacan already had earned at least four stars from me when I was done with the round of guacamole and tacos that I started my meal off with. There’s dark beer in the guacamole, and in one of the chile sauces that accompanied the tacos — that subtle malty flavor hits my palette in all the right places. The tongue tacos, de lengua, were my favorite — the meat on them is less seasoned than much of the other beef and pork options, and it played very well with the sauce I was so enamored by. Star number five was earned after one bite of the Mole Poblano. This dish is entirely underplayed on the menu; with Mexican restaurants all over claiming their Mole to be authentic, complex, composed of over 30 ingredients, you’d think they’d do more than just say«Chef Ivan’s traditional Mole». Apparently I should have known to give Chef Ivan more credit for his recipes. This is the singular best Mole I’ve had in the US, and I find myself comparing every other attempt at the sauce I’ve had through the states to This variation, not even the ones I’ve loved in Mexico itself. Don’t miss it.

I had an excellent experience here the other week! Mesa Coyoacan is a cozy, authentic Mexican restaurant in East Williamsburg with a casually romantic atmosphere. A friend and I shared the guacamole and chips, which I admit would have tasted much better if mixed spicy instead of mild. It also came with a small serving of black stout-based salsa, which was interesting but nothing more. We both ordered the brunch plate special, because $ 12 seems more than reasonable for what’s included: your choice of meat, rice, beans, guac, salsa, and tortillas. A bit perplexed by the absence of sour cream, though? Their carne asada was delicious and juicy, while the carnitas came in tender, delectable chunks. I also had a refreshing watermelon margarita, because it’s never too early for tequila. ;) While it comes in a small glass, it was enough to give me a nice buzz for the next hour. Overall, I really enjoyed our meal here and would definitely come back and try their dinner menu, as it’s larger and has more variety.
