While the food is not terrible(not great either) it amazes me how they stay in business. They are certainly overpriced for what they offer. The lunch specials are moderately priced for not that much food and they certainly skimp on the proteins. Also they charge almost $ 7 for soups where most asian restaurants charge less than half that and they are thoroughly mediocre. When ordering a side of white rice, they wanted $ 3.50. It just does not make sense. They are thoroughly inauthentic and do not seem to mind. I would recommend Tofu on 5th for a much better, cheaper and more flavorful experience.

THEYREFOODISFROZEN! i knew something was wrong when i ate there and i just had to ask my friend(who works there) and she informed me they use FROZEN, PREPAREDFOOD! WTF??? Very expensive, poor portions. no waiters? I cant deal with the last one. The ONLY think nice about this place is the ambiance. And even that doesn’t make up for the poor quality, frozen, overpriced food they serve.

This place was really good. It’s probably the nicest Chinese food place I’ve been too in nyc.

This is my second visit. My last visit. The large white meat chicken chunks were perfected cooked despite the heavy breading. The wonton broth is bland. Yet, the pork is nuanced and seasoned. So I’ll give three stars just for that. This wants to be «modern take out.» I’m convinced that solely means generic, take out taste at a higher, bourgeois mark up. Perhaps the most serious offense to the philosophy and style of take out is the lack of fortune cookies. $ 23 for a meeting with the great General Tso and wonton soup? Go to Taste of China on 4th Ave. instead. They have a lunch menu. $ 7. I should have gotten something from that, but the General was not listed. It was sparsely populated in the restaurant with many taking orders to-go.

The food here is on a healthier scale however I have had problems here. From experience I know to only eat in. It seems as if whenever you take out, they jus throw the food together and u have never taken out and been satisfied. With that being said, last week when I went in to eat in, I stood at the counter waiting. A white couple walks in and the woman behind the counter immediately says to them, can I help you? Meanwhile I had been standing there for at least two minutes. I hate to play the race card however… I’m going to give them one more try, if I feel any way, they will never see me back there again. I like to know I’m appreciated my money is appreciated and not just tolerated

Came here for dinner with the family after hearing from friends it was underrated. Also wanted to go someplace other than my usual park slope Szechuan spot. I would agree that the food was solid and perhaps underrated. Flavors were good and everything was fresh — but I didn’t realize how much of a take out spot it is. You can sit and eat but it’s very casual dining with just the bare minimum of table service. Staff is friendly and all but if you’re looking to sit down and have a meal, adjust your expectations. My mom is an old-school lady and was taken aback at ordering at the register, paying up front and then getting your food. The good news is that the food was pretty good, which made my mom happy. I highly recommend their version of cold sesame noodles — it’s got lots of green veggies and delicious sesame flavor. It was probably my favorite dish of the night. Close second was the calamari — thin sliced, tender, not too heavily breaded and the addition of fermented black bean is genius. Everything else — shrimp and chicken dishes — was good solid food but in general benefitted from the addition of chili paste and a bite of Chinese mustard. Also on the plus side, they have a vegetarian menu which was great for my sister. The Shitake Bun(veg version of Pork Bun) was delicious! That rounded out my top three dishes for the night.

Michael & Pings is completely underrated. I came here one night because I got the groupon which was $ 15 for $ 25 worth of food, and I’m so happy I went. I was surprised when I got there to realize it’s kinda more of a order and go kinda pace. There’s no waitress service, but you order at the counter and the girls will bring your food to the table for you. As an appetizer I got the wonton soup and the pork dumplings, both were excellent. The wonton soup tasted so fresh and light and the dumplings were just as good. For an entrée I got the sesame chicken salad, that came with a light dressing on it. It was good but nothing special obviously because it was just a salad. My boyfriend got the pepper steak with vegetable fried rice, which was deeelish. All the food was so flavorful. This place is an Americanized Chinese restaurant that you definitely have to try if you’re in the area. I’ll be back for sure.

Completely underrated spot! Ordered here for a «healthier» alternative to Chinese food. Unlike some of the reviews here — I definitely felt that the food was super tasty. If you’re looking for the same experience — we ordered their scallion pancakes(amazing), shrimp fried rice, tamarind spare ribs, beef lo mein(also, amazing!) and pork dumplings. Really all very tasty. I love dirty chinese food any day but I really appreciated that this place had food that actually had a great taste and you don’t feel excessively guilty after eating it.

I came here the other night with a friend because I’ve been wanting to try this place out and we were both pleasantly surprised by the tastiness of our food. I had the General Tso’s chicken, which was the recommended chicken dish by the nice guy behind the cashier. We both thought the portions were just perfect so that we were too full for dessert and the prices are reasonable for what you get.

A-OK is the best way to describe this place. not bad, not good. used to be better. It’s 20% better than your typical chinese takeout, but 100% more expensive

Michael & Ping’s Modern Chinese Take-Out(M&P) is the best Chinese style American food I’ve ever had! The offer all the dishes you’ve grown to love to hate: General Tso’s chicken, beef and broccoli, pepper steak, kung pao chicken and other Chinese inspired American dishes. Philosophically they are on point: no MSG, «think outside of the box» etc. And – get this – they actually execute on better quality, non-bloating food. Some suggested(on Unilocal) that the food lacked flavor. Perhaps they mean that the food didn’t have the biting intensity of high-sodium soy sauce and MSG sprinkled throughout? I don’t know… My experience is that all the dishes that I tried were flavorful and satisfying. Especially the glazed pork ribs which melted in our mouths. I can’t wait to return

This place is delicious and always amazing ! The staff is great and the food is so perfect ! Did I mention delicious ??? Only thing is the best taste are in house, if you order out the container they pack it in pretty much strips the flavor away !!!

An underrated Asian/fusion spot that needs some recognition for its tasty green-ness & greatness! We just ordered for pick up, but when we went in, the cashier was über friendly & asked us if we wanted any sauces & also ensured we left with everything we ordered. Customer service is errrythang, & this spot is super on point with their friendly staff. Another plus to this spot is that THISRESTAURANTISTHEONLYCERTIFIEDGREENRESTAURANT in the city, which is super dope. Read up on what that means, it’s pretty dope how environmentally friendly this business is. We got: Chicken and shrimp Pad Thai & Sesamw shrimp with brown rice. Both were VERYLARGEPORTIONS. Both were not super, hecka, hella greasy like most Chinese restaurants. Both tasted clean, green– if ya know whattimean! Organic Brown rice substitution is free of charge, so, it’s encouraged to be healthy here! The only thing I’d change is more veggies is my Pad Thai. Other than that, I’m definitely coming back!!! Asian fusion is kinna my thang, Renee Rises

Experimenting is great, but when it goes awry don’t unleash a Frankenstein upon unsuspecting diners. The menu is a bit of a rollercoaster: up and down at any given moment. Today I tried their bahn mi sandwich, primarily because I felt like having a bahn mi sandwich. Yet what I got was some meat and pickled vegetables in focaccia bread that grew soggier by the minute. Do you have to complicate things? Eat your own food and try to be objective about it. I’ve had bahn mi about fifty times, and this one stands out… for being so soggy and lame. If this is the mentality that infects your food, how can you expect me to be inspired to try other dishes on your menu?

3.5 stars… On the search for the best Chinese delivery place that will delivery to my place in the Cobble Hill area, Michael & Ping’s was next on the list to try. They are«modern» in the fact that they have a website, are on seamless, offer higher quality ingredients, speak better English, and the food comes in modern cardboard containers. They also have an eat-in restaurant. The food options are a bit more limited than other Chinese take-out type places and what’s on the menu is pretty standard, nothing really modern about the recipes. This is the 4th Chinese delivery place my fiancé and I have tried. We ordered the same from each place to keep everything fair. Michael & Ping’s was the most expensive(about $ 32 before tip while the other places ranged from $ 17 – 27). What we got for that extra money was General Tso’s chicken where it was made with actual quality pieces of white meat chicken, something none of the other places were able to offer. Unfortunately were it fell short was the lack of any crispy batter, a much smaller portion that didn’t allow for any leftovers, and a mediocre sauce that tasted more like sweet and sour sauce then what I’ve come to expect from the dish. There was definitely no heat to the dish at all. The lo mein was the best we’ve had so far, it had nice doughy noodles, a tasty sauce, and a decent amount of meat. The fried dumplings weren’t at all crispy and the flavor was average at best but the dough to meat ratio was spot on. We also got something we hadn’t ordered from the other spots, scallion pancakes. These came in the most unexpected way. The pancakes were almost the same texture as a regular pancake you would have at breakfast(fluffy and not fried), rolled up with some fillings in it and a dipping sauce. They were ok but not something we would probably order again. It’s also worth noting that the delivery time was longer than the rest of the places. The food arrived without a menu for the place, fortune cookies, napkins, or utensils.

The place is decent, has its ups and downs… my only real complaint is the quantity of food they provide on the menu. For prices being so dam high at least give an effort in delivering good portion sizes! I feel as any other Chinese food restaurant gives way more food and you pay alot less money! I understand you guys want to be a unique rarity of modern Chinese food, but come on. give us quantity! And quality of course ;) –MS–

Not worth it! Twice now, I’ve ordered general tso’s chicken with extra chicken and been terribly disappointed by the amount. Tonight it came with 8 small pieces of chicken. Barely enough for a normal order. Pathetic for being charged extra. At $ 16.75 for this dish, so extremely disappointing. This used to be a very high-quality option for delivery, but no longer. Now, quality is terrible and off my list.

First off this 4 star review is for their excellent lunch special. I would probably give 3.5 review for dinner(which I will explain later). At $ 7 for their lunch menu(which includes entrée, rice, and drink) you not only get far healthier and fresher food than your typical Chinese joint, you get a lot of food. Best of all you don’t get that typical post Chinese guilt and crash immediately after eating. Yes, since it is healthier, you may think it is not as good and flavorful as good old greasy Chinese but after 2 or 3 tries you will start to crave this over the standard. I highly recommend adding in their excellent hot and sour soup for $ 3. It is an absurd amount of food and keeps me coming back. Btw, I think you get a little more food eating in(maybe it is just the very nice presentation they do… or the 80s and 90s music they always have cranking). There is always plenty of room to eat in and the space has a nice industrial feel. The only reason I give 3.5 stars outside of lunch is that it is a bit pricey for what you get. Also the food is a little more bland than good old American Chinese but then again it is a lot better for you(at least I hope).

I finally decided to give a chance to another chinese restaurant for my delivery-dinners. And I was really hoping to be happy of this place, since I like very much the idea they do things fresh everyday. I also like the idea that the menu is short, makes you think that they really work as a small fresh chinese-trattoria. But of the order we made, almost half of the dishes we wanted were not available. I know, it was a Sunday night and that might be the reason. but when you call for delivery food, you would be happy to find what you are starving for. In a perfectly sustainable world, nothing is «always» available, I am thinking about the seasonal local ingredients which I am so found of… But when ordering pork spring rolls I never think they could run out! Besides that. the black bean sauce o the fried calamari was bitter to my taste, and the calamari were not juicy but a bit chewy since very thinly sliced. The Mei fun were really very very simple, just carrot and celery + little meat and little egg. Nicely cooked but I prefer more vegetables, and it was too soy-ish. I liked the idea of the carton recyclable boxes but everthing came almost cold. Not a problem for the noodles you can warm up, but for fried spring rolls and calamari not the best. Only Cash, that might also be a little problem(if you order delivery dinner it might be that you cannot/or don/t want to go out to the ATM to take money.) So, overall 3 stars. Quality is not bad, but I guess I will stay with my favorite chinese restaurant, until I venture on a new one… Suspense!
