How this place hasn’t been reviewed yet, I don’t know… but honored to be the first. Entering Red Hook Garden Center is like entering a mini tropical paradise.
Leroy, the owner is AMAZING. Each time I have gone there, he takes his time to discuss my plants, even having me roll a huge palm down Van Brunt street to diagnose it and replant it. Having grown up around plants, and grown plants from seed his whole life, he is a total expert and is generous with his advice. He goes out of his way to give you a half a bag of compost if that’s all you need, repot your plants, and order plants from his sister who grows many of his plants from seed in Queens.
Will you pay a little more than you would at Lowes? Yes. But the service and the quality is 100% worth it. This place is a true gem in the Red Hook community, one that reminds me of what local businesses used to be like.
