Everytime I’ve been here, it’s been empty aside from 3 drunk sleezy guys. One came up and said«I won’t be able to sleep tonight until I know your name.» My response: «I don’t care if you never sleep again.» Two stars for the bartenders who are willing to put up with all that.

Noosed I had several wonderful experiences here, thanks to a certain bartender named Matthew F. Sad to see you go, Rope, hopefully you’re not replaced by a Vitamin Shoppe or the like.

Love it! Reminds me of chicago but a little nicer. Only thing that couldve been better was if the garden was open. 6 bucks for a beer shot combo with good alcohol 8 bucks with a good beer. skeeball, i LOVED the jukebox selection. i nice place to be stuck in the rain, not too crowded on a friday night and I felt free enough to get drunk and dance to david bowie. making ny friendlier! plus some interesting can selections…

This bar remind me of my student life. 1 euro for shitty beer in can on Monday, rock/folk/country music, lot of noise and young people. If it’s what you’re searching for, Rope is for you. You get what you pay for, so if you’re waiting for a neat service + 5 stars cocktails, this place isn’t for you. If you’re there for beers and student mood, let’s talk…

Cheap. Divey. Real. The bartenders are amazing and the music is usually grand. My boyfriend’s neighborhood joint though I go a lot more than him. There is skeeball, and karaōke one night a week(Wednesday?) that somehow manages not to be lame. They have a back deck that is really nice in the summertime. You can totally go in and be alone, or go in alone and meet people, or bring a whole bunch of friends and have an awesome time.

Last call at Emerson is 2:30 on Wed night? What da hell? So, needed one more– roamed around Murder Ave until we were greeted by a rebel rousing crew smoking and wobbling around the chalkboard teepee outside, I figured it was open and lively. Its funny what debauchery filters from memory. I remember the following, talking to a girl, bartender was from Atlanta, 3 people at the bar, A guy threatening someone with a gun, no one really getting scared about this and we all took shots after he left, talking about Seattle, will I make out with this girl/will I even text her again?, talking about Portland, I thought the bartender was Jewish but it turns out shes just from Atlanta and dates a musician! I come from up North, Greenpoint, so I dont know what its usually like in here, but there was bout 6 people at the bar, and a table with 4 more. Music was good, although I dont remember what it was, and the bartender was from Atlanta and held things down.

Oh I am an ass. I thought I had reviewed Rope, but alas, I have not. This is my neighborhood bar for exactly one more week(til I move to BedStuy), so I better do it now. Rope is at the top of my block. It is my go-to bar for everything: taking friends from out of town here, taking dates I’m not super interested in here so that I can quickly escape home if need be, taking dates here that I like so I have easy access to my home, drinking alone, drinking with my cousin and her boyfriend, taking friends from other boroughs to show them how superior Brooklyn is… etc etc. Don’t tell the hipsters about Rope though, because they’d probably really dig it — we have so few here, and we’re so dangerously close to Williamsburgh… there are some Pratt students that hang out here, but I think most of the more annoying ones go to the Emerson. All of the bartenders are wonderful, all of them are way laid back and cool. The patrons are also a real neighborhoody and diverse bunch. Rope has awesome drink specials, too: $ 1PBR cans on Monday evenings/nights and $ 3 Guinnesses on Thursdays. They have shot + beer specials as well, and just came up with this new high/low deal where you can either pick a fancy liquor and a low-end beer or the opposite, for like $ 5 – 6 dollars(I can’t remember the exact deal because I’ve only had it once — but seriously, it’s a good deal). The music is ALWAYS great here, too, which makes me happy in my heart. You can also bring in outside food, so we sometimes get Thai from across the street and eat it at Rope. I really don’t understand why anyone in Clinton Hill-ish would go anywhere else. I heart Rope, and moving to a different hood will not stop me from trampling down Myrtle a bunch of blocks to hang out here.

We come here a good bit. Yes, it’s divey. But it’s also nearby. Cheap. Reliable. Drunk. Also: this past weekend they scored fun points for free pumpkin carving.

My good friend lives in the neighborhood and this is his go to bar. Always trusting his taste in bars, I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed. But, I was feeling kinda sluggish… it was one of those nights where you have already been out all day eating and drinking so you say, «Well, just one more…» and that turns into… 4(or 5) delicious, well crafted cocktails by a friendly bartender who actually makes conversation with you, asks what you like, and gives you a buy-back! With all of the hospitality, I felt like I was back in New Orleans for a minute. AND the best part… they have Skeeball!!! Heaven in Brooklyn. I’ll be back!

This is my neighborhood haunt. It has everything you need: –booze –friendly bartenders –friendly bartenders who snap on young idiot college students for not tipping –a back patio –a never crowded or obnoxious atmosphere –a laid back crowd of locals aside from the dude with the beard from the mid-west who hates NYC but won’t leave because he loves to get drunk and scowl/argue nonsensically about it and bask in his justification –perpetual darkness –music that often reflects perpetual darkness I wish: –my dog would be allowed inside. Often I would love to go out and spend money at Rope(and argue with grouchy midwesterners), but because I don’t want to leave my dog alone for too long– I just stay at home, sipping Oronoco and watching those bad straight-to-dvd movies on Instant Netflix that promise zany hijinks and T & A but deliver a quick, boring avenue to falling asleep before 10PM with all of my clothes on. –well drinks weren’t $ 6. The beer drinkers get good deals but my ass is stuck with liquor.

My ambivalence about Rope goes back to the first day I ever walked down this block of Myrtle. I was new to Brooklyn and hoping to get an apartment on the block. It was a sunny day, I’d just walked past the mansions on Clinton, and all of a sudden, there’s a dive bar with a name that just reminds me a little too much of lynching, or maybe suicide. Okay. That aside. I didn’t actually visit Rope until a few months later(despite having indeed become a resident of the block). It was a late-night post-concert first date in which I was already pretty smashed, and Rope was exactly the right spot for my date to have casually informed me that he has an STD. Uhh, that aside too. I dropped into Rope another time about a week later. It was a weekend night, after 10, and the place was packed – standing room only. I ducked out of there and went over to Maggie Brown’s instead. Much chiller. Room to sit. But I like Rope, and I will go back. Probably a lot. The beer is cheap, especially during the week, and the crowd is usually totally manageable. I hope you have as much fun with Rope as I have!!!

Rope is awesome. Great deals like the $ 1PBR Mondays they just brought back. The bartenders take care of you and remember you and it quickly becomes your local bar. It has great seating and is pet friendly… there are always one or two dogs around. There is large seating for groups and sufficient tables around. When it’s warm outside they open the patio giving you even more space. They just got a TV which is rad for the occasional sports game. The music is usually hit or miss for me but that’s just me being picky. Fridays and Saturdays at night it can get a little packed but generally it is a very calm and relaxing place to chug some down. I rated it 5 stars instead of 4 because of how awesome Aubrey has been, but now that she is gone we will see if it can hold up to the great name it’s made for itself as my local bar. Check it out!

Rope has absolutely wonderful margaritas, wonderful! The bartenders are also pretty nice. Went with 7 friends on a Sunday and we couldn’t pull away from the bar. A few rounds in the bartender buys a round on her. It just couldn’t get any better. Go. With friends. Have some margs.

Cheap drinks are hard to find in New York. Just last Saturday I spent $ 42 on two drinks. But not at this place. It’s a great homey neighborhood dive bar but without all the gross stuff in dive bars. No nasty floors or cockroaches crawling on the counter. Just friendly and chatty bartenders and drinkers. Everybody seems to know each other here, which is comforting in a city that’s so often big and anonymous. I just moved to Brooklyn a little over a month ago and have found a local bar home. If you’re new to the neighborhood, come by and meet your neighbors.

Rope is several blocks from my school. I think I’d come more often if it was my neighborhood bar(instead of my school-borhood bar)(I like that word, I’m keeping it), because it meets the following requirements I have for bars: 1. cheapness of beer 2. a number of places to sit But it fails at my requirements for being my neighborhood bar: 1. must be in my neighborhood 2. must not be filled with everyone I see all day everyday I can see what people are saying about Rope being kind of horrifying if you’re not used to being surrounded by loud, pretentious 21 year olds in stupid clothes, but if you go to Pratt, you get a faceful of obnoxious emo youth-drama at every turn, and I promise they start to blend into the scenery after a while. I feel like everyone in here from Pratt is generally pretty friendly, even if they are kind of irritating, trying too hard, or essentially wearing neon green lederhosen and playing a plastic ukelele because no one liked them in high school.(If you want to talk to random art school strangers, look for the grad students, who tend to be quieter and have less elaborate hairstyles. Except for me, my hair is ridiculous.) I’d be more enthusiastic with my rating, frankly, but I feel like Rope doesn’t inspire enthusiasm, it’s more relaxed, and would prefer if you weren’t screaming YAY! SUPERFAN! WOOHOO! MEGALUV!!! in its face.

I came here for Monday’s dollar PBR night with Hector V. and some of my Brooklyn friends that frequent it weekly. It reminded me a lot of the Avalon Bar back home, but with more street cred and way better music. Like, waaaaaay better music. The jukebox rules. Plus, the girl bartender was a babe! She gave Hector V. a discounted drink because he only had $ 4 but also wanted to tip her. She looked like Pocahontas. For the rest of the night, we preceded to call her«Poca-Hottie.» I’ll probably go again if I’m in Brooklyn on Monday.

Despite the curious name(for when I think about«rope» and«alcohol» in the same sentence, it doesn’t make for a happy ending, exactly) this place is quite wonderful. From the excellent drink specials – $ 3 pints of Guinness on Thursday, and $ 6 for a shot of Jim Beam and a bottle of Bud, well, all the time – to the totally sweet tunes, to the helpful, kind, chill staff, Rope is everything I want in a neighborhood bar. Aside from the daily special, pints of beer and mixed drinks are only $ 5, which I think is quite inexpensive in general, especially in New York City. Rope is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to hang out. It’s a perfect bar for nerding out and reading – quite relaxed, though never boring – or for striking up a random conversation with the friendly folks who regularly come by to kick it. A very cool spot.

It’s always nice to have a place you can chill out at with some friends and a pint and not deal with any attitude(from the staff or customers). The bartenders are pretty easygoing and you never have to wait long for a drink, even when it’s busy. There’s also a backyard with a grill — awesome during summer — and you can usually find room at a couch or table if you’re with a bunch of people. As for the art students… they’re harmless. If you’re going to let them bother you, either don’t go on Mondays($ 1PBR night) or realize that Pratt is 3 blocks away and deal with it.

Consistently awesome and interesting beer on tap! Totally solid whisky collection! GREAT jukebox that gets updated dilligently! Pretty awesome little patio! Pretty nice couches inside! I mean, sure it gets crowded sometimes. But I don’t get why people are complaining about *Pratt Students* if you are on purpose visiting a bar that is like two blocks from Pratt. Huh? Come on.(And no, I did not go to Pratt. But I have lived in Clinton hill about four years, and I think I can say with relative expertise, Pratt students are pretty nice kids who study art.) This is NOT a dive. It’s a nice place. If you’re looking for a dive go to Alibi on Dekalb, that’s a great dive. Rope, on the other hand, is a great place for a little group or a visitor from out of town or an after dinner drink, get there a bit early and you’ll have plenty of space to set up camp. Yeah Rope! The only bum note you’ve ever played is the Goth DJ cutting off the jukebox playlist me and my pals set up one time. So I can’t give you a perfect score. Other than that, thanks for being awesome.

Great juke box. Honestly. OK beer selection. But it’s cheap. And the bartenders are really, truly kind. Good place to meet people and, more importantly, people-watch. Omigod: it’s a sociologist’s playground. One could spend hours studying how Pratt youngsters try out their new arty style. But the bar has a familiar, gentle feel to it that doesn’t at all match its trendy exterior. And, on quieter nights, it’s the perfect place to hide with a copy of Kafka or Calvino — because, I assure you, you’ll either be left alone or will be engaged in intellectual conversation. Oh. And on those deliriously wild nights, it’s been known to stay open ’til sunrise.

Went there with a friend from out of town on a weeknight and we downed many drinks and enjoyed it there. They have a pretty decent Juke and the prices are okay. Seemed like it was devoid of pretension and all that crap. My friend asked, «is this a gay bar?» and I found that hilarious, mostly because it’s the type of shit I’m accustomed to hearing from him — general random misconceptions — but yes, on that particular night, the place consisted entirely of dudes, minus the ‘tender. Outside having a smoke, we were solicited by a few homeless cats, and it was something of a flashback to my days in Bed-Stuy and Chicago(Hyde Park — especially waiting for the Garfield/55 on the bridge over the Dan Ryan) since I haven’t had to deal with that kind of stuff in this neighborhood. Good Happy Hour prices if you can get back to the ‘hood from Manhattan by 7.5pm.
