I’ve never had anything from this place that didn’t taste great. The food is fantastic. Food safety, not so much. Hence the one star. But last week I was in and the guys behind the counter were all prepping raw meat and when I ordered, the guy who started preparing my food didn’t even wash his hands. His bare hands just went right from a pile of sausage to making my pasta and sandwich order. I didn’t say anything for a minute because I was so dumbfounded. Then we had this conversation: «The meat you were just handling — is it raw?» «Yes.» (He said that without even looking up — as if I had just asked if I were in Brooklyn.) «Uhm… okay. I’m a little concerned about the fact that you went straight to handling my food without washing your hands.» «Oh. Well, if you want, I can throw this out, go wash my hands, and start over.» «Yes. That sounds great. Let’s do that.» Call me a stickler, but I just feel like basic food safety precautions shouldn’t be a special request.

I used to live down the street and remember when they opened. Always a huge fan and no matter where I’ve lived in Brooklyn, I make a point to go there a few times a year. I used t go twice a month back in the early days. Impossible to go wrong. Balsamic chicken, roasted vegetables, pastas, cheese and amazing deserts. Went tonight for the first time in awhile and it was as amazing as ever.

Just ordered for very first time from this place on Seamless. Wasn’t having high hopes for the food since I have been disappointed many times before, either by, lack of taste, food was cold when it arrived or it was just a big mess on a plate. However, this place blew my taste-buds out of the water !!! It was fresh(hot), delicious and everything look and tasted amazeballs !!! Would definitely order from here again and refer this place to my family, friends, co-workers and pretty much everyone! :)

You’ll get an old school Italian feel as soon as you walk into Russo’s. The cheese, the handmade pasta, deli, etc. I tried one of their famous paninis for lunch. They have a menu but you can also make your own combination with ingredients(prosciutto, broccolini, mozzarella, sun-dried tomato, red peppers, etc.). The broccolini is doused in garlic, which is absolutely delicious but make sure to have some gum handy after the meal. The bread had just the right amount of crunch without being hard to bite into. The mozzarella is so so fresh. You’ll be full after eating this! My tip — if you get the broccolini, eat some of it separately because it will take a lot of chewing if you keep all of it in the panini.

A really good sandwich — had the turkey, hot peppers, and mozzarella sandwich. A very generous portion and a great, subtle smokey taste throughout that will have me coming back. Could use some mustard. Got a few meatballs too, because why not? Not the cheapest place in the world, but not prohibitively expensive either. Sandwich was about $ 9. 2 large meatballs from the prepared food case came to $ 5. I’d go back.

Excellent selection of homemade sauces, cheeses(the fresh mozzarella is the best in the nabe) and hot foods. Great place to buy a sandwich too. The guys behind the counter are helpful and nice.

Russo’s is a neighborhood gem! I found out about this place through a friend that recommended their amazing sandwiches. However, I soon found out that Russo’s also do catering. The food is always delicious and delivered on time. Next time you’re in the neighborhood make sure you stop by!

This is a great little grocery store to pick up some homemade pasta, homemade sauce, homemade mozzarella, fresh baked bread, and little packaged Italian goodies. I haven’t seen some of these packaged goods since I studied abroad in Rome!(or in Eataly :)) The prices are little bit higher, but the goods are quality so in my opinion it is worth it. It’s not the absolute best Italian grocery store I have ever been to, but it’s pretty darn good. I would recommend it.

I have lopped off some stars from my original post purely due to bad service. I don’t know what is up with the staff here . The sandwiches are still divine, artichokes amazing but attitude!!! Serious attitude!!! I’ve been frequenting this store for Years!!! But they still won’t give me a smile or even 1⁄10000 of a friendly vibe In a neighborhood with a thousand families and nice leafy tree lined streets I’d expect some basic service skills. Cheer up guys! You’re in the service industry !

Excellent quality and always delicious. When I make a lasagna it makes all the difference to use their ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese. Their sandwiches are also amazing. This is a neighborhood gem.

Awesome little Italian market shop with really delicious sandwiches. The olives and mozzarella are great and they package up fresh pasta and freeze raviolis that make for a perfect quick dinner. If I’m low on energy but want to cook at home Russo’s is my first choice for making my life easy.

Great little shop but it’s ok. Sandwiches are overrated, I ordered the eggplant Parmesan sandwich and it was so saucy. My sandwich was mushy and the bread could not hold my sandwich together. The fresh mozzarella is ok kinda rough not soft.

Apparently there’s also another park slope one now, and having been to the East Village one, I had to check this one out and grab some mozz’. Dig it.

Another place that’s made the confounding decision to skimp on ingredients to maintain profit margins. Just raise the prices. Seriously I will gladly pay more money for a full sandwich than pay the old price and get a hunk of bread with a whisper of ingredients. This quality of the food is great, the portions use to be normal, but after getting burned the last few times I’ve ordered it’s apparent that they’ve gone the way of so many others in a bad economy. If you order any of their hero sandwiches expect to pay $ 10 for loaf of bread with a thin slice or two of meat and cheese.

A few friends from Georgia came up to visit and we were in the area after a quick lunch. We stopped by Russo’s because there was a sign outside for prosciutto and mozzarella panini. The best I’d ever have was in Florence when the bf and I went to Italy. I still think of that sandwich. And while I knew I could not have the same in the States, I still end up getting prosciutto and mozzarella sandwiches whenever I crave it. There were tons of food in the store to look at. Meats, cheese and pastas. We stuck to the panini and it took a little bit. I am not complaining because it was wonderful. It was very close to sandwiches that I had in Italy. The bread was crusty and toasty. The prosciutto was freshly sliced and the right temperature! I hate when places toast the prosciutto inside with the bread. It was so good! I have to come back ASAP!

My favorite Park Slope option for real/fresh mozzarella. Really the best place to buy in the entire neighborhood!

I dig this place, a short walk from my apt, provides me with some simply delicious snacks. I’m looking at you breaded artichokes! While most of their things are tasty, they could use an extra hand or two on the seasonings. I also appreciate the holiday pastas. I made heart lasagna for my bf and friends on valentine’s day.

I used to walk but this shop all the time, but I was with my dog so I couldn’t walk inside. When I was finally able to stop by, there’s only one thing I can about this place: ITSMELLSFREAKIN’ DELICIOUSINHERE! I stopped in for a late breakfast and bought a chicken franchese sandwich(don’t judge me) and it was meaty and delicious. I also looked around a saw the the saw prices… super reasonable for what it they sell. $ 3.99 for fresh pasta is a steal, in my opinion. I probably won’t be visiting it as much as United Meat Market, since I can get some groceries there too, but if I was some on-point Italian deli food I’ll be back at Russo’s.

The Russo’s you have grown to love in the north slope for us to enjoy even more. Everything you expect to be there is available from the sauce, to the pasta, and of course the mozzarella! The sandwiches are absolutely perfect and I can’t wait to leverage them as my annex to whole foods when I need some meat!

Great sandwiches full of meat(prosciutto, roast beef), cheese(mozzarella, swiss cheese), and veggies(peppers, broccoli rabe). Great selection of fresh bread, pastas(even lobster, crab), sausages, and cheeses… oh and of couse I had to try the sea salt caramel gelato cake — amazing! The sandwiches are so filling($ 8.95 including soda) — great to grab before a picnic in the park.
