I’ve seen the owners renovating and was wondering what would come of this place. The old Mexican joint here had a beautiful garden but food that was reminiscent of Chi-Chis and abrupt service. I’m really happy to say a new, welcoming neighborhood treat has emerged. With vintage tiles and bar stools, nooks of ferns, adorably kitsch clutter and a small stage perched high above the tables, someone put a lot of care into this spot. The drinks, hibiscus and ginger margaritas, were delicious and served by a friendly, attentive bartender. We had the octopus ceviche, beet salad, carnitas tacos which were all good, and a mushroom stuffed poblano pepper topped with goat cheese that was lovely. Overall, a lot of care is clearly put into making customers happy here. We live just a few blocks away and I hope we found a new regular spot.

I went here with 9 other people for a friend’s birthday dinner. The restaurant is small, but they were very willing to accommodate our large group. The staff was great, particularly the bartender who gave the birthday girl a free drink and charged us nothing for 6 birthday shots of patron. The prices are very low. However, the food isn’t that great as many of the other reviewers commented. I had the pollo marinado and it was okay. The birthday girl has the sombrero and did not like it. We also ordered this cream cheese stuffed taquito for a dessert and it was the first time I witness a dessert being a low point of the meal.

—closed now called Elotes. — - Have been going to this place for dinner and drinks, three Saturdays in a row now. And I always leave happy. The food is good, and I’m partial to the taco salad! The chips aren’t stale like previous reviews stated. The margaritas are really good. The vibe is great and the garden is very nice.

I agree 100% with Lauren B. The margaritas are good, but I feel like everytime I eat here the prices go up. The specials are usually good, and the brunch is good, and reasonably priced. They need to bring back the spinach quesadillas-I loved those!

I was invited to a special tasting menu/drink pairing night. It seemed most of the people were friends of the chef(or friends of friends) and other staff, so it felt more like a big dinner party of about 40 people. There was an amuse bouche followed by 5 courses, the last being the dessert. All came with a drink paring. The food was good, though I can’t vouch for the New Mexican authenticity. Definitely a southwestern influence with the use of chiles. I enjoyed everything, particularly the roasted chile/corn soup and the seafood Luis(crab salad topped with a single shrimp). The dessert was a green chile cheesecake, which most of the people at my table thought was too weird, but I thought it had an interesting depth of flavor. I’d go back to try the regular menu, but I rarely make it to Williamsburg, so my next visit will probably be for another tasting menu, as they hope to make this a regular event. We had a good time(and a lot of booze!).

I was amazed by this place when they first opened, but it seems to be wearing down on me. Maybe its the happy hour margaritas that have had 3 price increases that I can remember. I don’t know. The queso frito is one of the best things I have ever eaten and the tacos of the day are usually great. However the sombrero is a let down and the beet salad tastes like its been sitting in the fridge too long. I recommend sticking to drinks and dessert(especially if they have one of their amazing sweet/spicy specialties on the menu). The chips haven’t been stale the last couple times I’ve been, like they used to be. Although the staff can be a little absent they are definitely the sweetest I have encountered in the neighborhood. Its hard to resist as it is the closest place to my house and I’m already feeling drunk after just two of their margaritas.

While everyone working here was very nice, the menu for dinner sounded much better than it tasted. I started with the crabcakes which were recommended by the staff since they make them there. Well, they don’t make them fresh since they tasted like freezer burn. My entrée was the chicken mole. Now Mole is one of those things that you’ve either got it or you don’t. Well, they got it — from a jar and poured it all over two boneless chicken breasts. With a side of Uncle Ben’s vegetable medley rice and black beans fresh out of the goya can. The décor is non-descript.This place will do ok since they have lots of tequila and a garden. I think I will still try the brunch and have happy hour drinks here but no more dinners.

Formerly Hope and Union, this is the newest little spot in my ‘hood. Ok, it’s almost 5 months old now, but the fresh paint on the walls screams«just opened» at you as you’re being seated. Went here for brunch, very impressed by the menu. Basic brunch fare, with a southwesterny-twist. I had the french toast, which is filled with cinnamon cream cheese and served with fruit, highly recommended. My friend had the plate with eggs, pancakes, chorizo, and potatoes, and they were perhaps the fluffiest most delicious buttermilk pancakes of our lives. Also very very good. Not sure what they have for their dinner options. No complaints really. Fast, attentive, friendly service, great atmosphere, excellent music(Flaming Lips cd on repeat), great food, strong bloody mary, good coffee — and best of all, there was no waiting for a table on a Sunday afternoon at 1pm — although I’m sure the word will get out on this little place very soon! Also they have a garden out back. Come on, summertime!
