Sofia Pizza

Hot, crispy. And so tasty. Never was quite a pizza girl but the eggplant slice was deelish :)

Here is the scoop on Sophia Pizza. The man who started the shop used to work at another big and successful pizza place in Brooklyn but when they started buying inferior ingredients he opened his own shop. The cheese is the best there is anywhere. I have been ordering the eggplant pizza and the plain and each time we order we also get another pie on the list. This is the best pizza I have ever had but I have only eaten at 170 shops or so, so I’m not an expert. My friends and I used to pile in someone’s car and drive as far as Boston or Philly just to try some famous shop This is the first time my family has a designated pizza night which is now Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday and whenever people come over. You have to try this place seriously.

I was dying for an decent Italian sub and gave this place a try. They weren’t cheap with cold cuts. It was delicious. We also tried their cheesy bread and ordered potato croquettes but they ran out so we substituted for the rice balls. All very tasty. I’ll be back to try their pizza!

Me and my friends always order from here. My Fiancé usually gets the cheesy bread which I highly recommend. The pies are usually really good but we get them well done just because we prefer crispy over soft dough. My favorite thing on the menu is the chicken cutlet hero. Love it !!

We ordered pizza and garlic knots I took a bite from the garlic knot and there was broken glass in the garlic knots! I was lucky that I did not cut my mouth or swallowed it We were luckier that the kids didn’t eat it We called Sofia’s and told them and they didn’t want to believe us They said they would deliver some more garlic knots We declined They didn’t even say sorry Please beware for you and your kids This place doesn’t take responsibility for their near FATAL mistakes I would not recommend this place to my worst enemies!

*****This is a great pizza place. They have slices, pies, salads, wings, and even whole lunch/​dinner entrees. Even their sandwiches, heros & appetizers are awesome; A few of the sandwiches are great, and tasty! The food there is just amazing. The whole pies are so great, they look, taste, and are perfectly created.
I love their delivery, in that they bring me everything, and its always soo good.; They also have great service right to my door! I’m also glad they have hours past regular lunch and dinner times, since I’m sometimes back home later and appreciate the convince of being available. I highly recommend Sofia’s Pizza to everyone. *****

What’s with all the bad reviews?
I order from Sophia Pizza 1 – 2 times a week.
Their pasta dishes are surprisingly really yummy for a pizza joint. And you get a LOT for the money. Definitely worth it.
Their specialty slices are hit and miss and their heroes are pretty good.
Delivery is always fast and the guys that work there are super friendly.

Ordered the chicken parm hero for delivery.
Tasted very bland
The chicken was mushy .
The sauce didn’t have much flavor.
I ordered before but sadly this will be my last

Never disappointment when I get anything from here. The guys here are nice and easy to talk to.

Baked ziti — ²⁄₅ — Didn’t really look like baked ziti. Looked more like ziti marinara. Barely any mozzarella or ricotta. But otherwise, ok.
Fettucini Alfredo — ⁵⁄₅ Creamy, perfectly cooked noodles, delicious sauce, a hearty portion — Absolutely fantastic.
Penne alla vodka — 3 out of 5. Large portions. It smelled fantastic. They gave a nice serving of Italian bread on the side, but the sauce had an odd taste — like burnt plastic. I find this to be the case with a few pizza places in this area — not sure why. The pasta was cooked well, they gave ample sauce, and I loved that they even included a side of Parmesan without me asking. But the after-​taste of the sauce just wasn’t enjoyable, and it was far too tomato-​based with very little cream. I’d probably opt for another pasta dish next time I come here, and pass on the penne alla vodka in the future.
[edit] — I added some light cream to the sauce and it improved it 10-​fold. Covered up the plastic-​taste and I’m now able to enjoy my meal! Hurrah! But if you don’t have cream at your disposal, expect to be slightly disappointed. :\
Caesar salad — 5 out of 5. For a family-​run pizza joint, this Caesar salad is everything you’d expect. A nice portion size, croutons, Parmesan, and they don’t skimp on the dressing (which is quite flavorful). This will be my new go-​to spot for Caesar salads
Spinach roll — 4.5 out of 5. Quite delicious. And they actually cream the spinach here, instead of putting whole leaves in the roll, which is always appreciated. They don’t skimp on the cheese, which doesn’t have a cheap taste, and the dough is well flavored and cooked perfectly. There’s even some sauteed garlic in there for good measure! My new go-​to spinach roll in the area as well.
Garlic knots — 5 out of 5. They don’t skimp on the quantity, and they’re *super* garlicky and flavorful. I’m not sure why they appear green (perhaps parsley?) Either way — delicious!
Shrimp parm — 3.5 (rated by my boyfriend) — shrimp is breaded and deep fried, good cheese distribution, bread is warm and crusty. Only issue comes from a lot of mouthfuls of nothing but bread and sauce. Definitely could’ve used some more shrimp. Still, good flavor.
Overall, outside of the plain slices (I find something a little off with them, but can’t pinpoint what…), the lack of cream in the penne alla vodka, and the lack of ricotta and mozzarella in the baked ziti, I really like this place. By far the 2^nd best Italian food options within delivery of my apartment (2^nd to Anthony’s on Ave. X — which pretty much blows everyone else out of the water). But I would recommend this place to anyone looking to get pizza in the South Brooklyn area.

Sophia Pizza is on the block that was flooded out during Hurricane Sandy, so this place is relatively new. As such, there isn’t much to tweak. It fits the mold of a reliably good pepperoni and buffalo chicken pizza place. The décor is basic and the pricing isn’t posted (don’t worry, there are to-​go menus).
A word on the pricing, the per slice cost is a little higher than I would expect for the neighborhood. This place is in the Coney Island/​Sheepshead Bay/​Gravesend area not the East Village, but two slices should be enough for a hungry person, so I guess volume wise the pricing is consistent. Maybe, I’m just a spoiled, hard-​to-​impress, Brooklynite?
I gave it three stars because it is a good restaurant but not a place you would go to try something new, unless you were from out of town and categorically unfamiliar with the concept of a pizza-​by-​the-​slice shop. $ 3 for a pepperoni slice? Yeah, okay.
