Delicious food! I’m so happy this place is near the subway– an easy pit stop to grab an affordable and healthy dinner on my way home.

Just to note: this review is for the new establishment, «uptown veg» which seems to be now occupying and running the place.
I’ve been meaning to try this place since I moved into the area, but they seem to stay pretty slow and always close early before 7 or 8pm. Tonight, I finally made it off the subway in time to get a plate of vegan soul food before they closed. The first time I attempted to visit, they were closing before advertised time, and the clerk attempted to sell me a cold plate of food that was sitting in a dark room, for full price. With zero apologies for closing early. Should have seen that as the ultimate sign!
For the record, when asked whether the food was cooked on premises, the answer from the counter attendant was unfortunate a no. The food in this location is actually cooked at their uptown location, which means it basically sits in a warmer all day here in Brooklyn. As someone who loves some authentic vegan soul food, however, I decided to give it a whirl.
$ 9 later, I had a plate of mediocre vegan food. The highlights were definitely the proteins.
Delicious curry tofu wings, and some tasty Asian style stir-​fry. The sides were pretty disappointing, however. Mac and cheese was flavorless and dry; they tasted like someone cooked a box of kraft macaroni and cheese, but forgot to add the packet of stuff that makes Mac and cheese taste like Mac and cheese. I’ve had amazing vegan Mac before, so this was the most disappointing part of all.
The Greens were decent, but didn’t taste as fresh as one would like and also seemed to be under seasoned.
All in all, it was worth a shot… But as long as all the food is not being made on premises, I see no point in paying $ 9 for a plate of leftovers.

Went in here the other day to try it for the first time and to my surprise this place is now Uptown Veg’s second location and it was bought by them a couple weeks ago. The food is delicious! The sign still says VBar though I think the guy said they are changing it. Uptown Veg is a Harlem spot I’ve never been to either but the reviews seem favorable on Unilocal

food is late and i was promised i would be called back right away this was 15 mins ago and now no one is answering the phone! how rude, i want my money back now! this is the worst customer service

The first time I ordered from V Bar (via GrubHub), I got a call about 10 minutes later saying it was past deliver hours and that the hours listed on GrubHub hadn’t been updated. It did take me a while to sort a refund out with GrubHub, but hey, mistakes happen so there were no hard feelings.
Until today.
I ordered lunch, got the confirmation from GrubHub (which I know doesn’t get sent until the restaurant has accepted the order) with a delivery estimate of around an hour, and patiently waited. After trying to call the restaurant, to no avail (busy line), I get a call from GrubHub at the 1 hour 20 minutes mark saying that the restaurant has canceled my order because of «technical difficulties».
I won’t bother trying to order from here again.

So I came to VBar today to get the delicious food I enjoyed on previous visits.
I was wrong I looked at the food and realized something looked different about the food. I was than notified by the server that they changed chefs. So all the delicious vegan optIons I loved are gone. Menu has been changed. I wanted to see if the food was as equally delicious so I ordered Curry Chicken, Collard Greens & Rice & Beans. It was edible but not that good. I really hope they get the previous chef to return. VBar is the only place I can get something that’s sticks to my cleaning eating lifestyle.

Delicious vegan soul food, everything is made with love and you can tell by the care and way they seasoned every dish. Highlights are the drumsticks, vegan with a sticky amazing souuuceeee, But I must say that the banana pudding was taking home the prize with a punch of richness creaminess Shangri-​La .
The service is friendly, the only thing I was not a fan of was their sweet potato side, to sweet, but I guess that’s the souther way… I will def come back!

Ordered lunch for myself and two (meat eater) friends, yesterday. Delivery was fast. Service was excellent, but most excitingly, THE FOOD WAS ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL! Their chef (s) really REALLY know how to cook great, veggie comfort food. It was decadent, but not greasy and incredibly flavorful, filling, and fresh. I’m so completely overjoyed that this joint delivers to my neighborhood!
Had: Mac n Cheese (Halelujah!!! finally a FANTASTIC mac n cheese in Bedstuy!!!) Brussels sprouts (awesome!) «chicken» drummies (juicy, wonderful texture, very delicious) the pepper steak (also yummy as all get out), the lentil loaf (this is probably the healthiest entrée option, but it didn’t disappoint on flavor! A+ loaf!!)
*Please note: EVEN THE MEAT EATERS AGREED ALL THE FOOD TOTALLY ROCKED!
Would HIGHLY recommend this phenomenal, new addition to Bed-​stuy! Thank you, fine folks at VBar! Keep up the great work and keep those mouth watering viddles comin’! Woo!!!

The first time I discovered this place, I was absolutely in heaven. I haven’t visited the store personally before, I ordered takeout twice. This review is based on the two times I placed an order with them. The first time I placed my order it was great, the girl on the phone was nice and patient with me, she helped me choose what I wanted. The fact they were able to have a lot of variety with vegan meals and their portion size was also generous. I was glad to have discovered them online, the same girl on the phone with me was the one that delivered my order, I believe they are a small location and a small staff the same girl I placed my order with, does deliveries as well. I had a large with Kale, Mixed Vegetable Rice, Pineapple soy chunks and sweet potato casserole. Delicious! The second time I placed my order, things got weird. I waited an entire hour for my food to come, I called this place again to be told «yeah I just seen your order the lady who drives deliveries is not here». I told her, that was ridiculous, why didn’t they tell me that when I first called. I was pretty sure my first delivery was by foot, but the employees there must think customers are stupid, I just hung up the phone at the point. Bedstuy area is in need of more healthy options, even though many Caribbean restaurants offer that in the neighborhood of Bedstuy– Crown Heights, because of the Rastafarian influence. Very few vegan places in Bedstuy actually deliver, or exist, this last experience for me was very disappointing.

I spent $ 4.99 and got one protein and one side. I had the lentil meatloaf with collards. I was asked if I wanted kale too and was able to split the collards/​kale for one side (this may not be commonly allowed, but it happened).
All I have to say is thank you for allowing greens to be greens. Not going to preach but why do people need meat in their vegetables while their main course is meat? Anyway, I enjoyed both greens.
Another thing which may just be the situation but I said I did not need a plastic bag for bringing my food home. I opened my bag to put the food in, but the woman was concerned about the food spilling in my bag. I happened to pull out a plastic container from my lunch that was empty and she said she would wash it, which she did and then put my food in it.
All in all the food was inexpensive ($ 4.99) and good, and the service was awesome.

I stopped in for lunch today and was greeted with a friendly smile and excellent service. The food was delicious! So happy to see more veg-​friendly restaurants opening in the area. I will definitely be back for more tasty vegan soul food soon!

The food was OK. It’s nice to have healthy options available. No room to sit and eat so be mindful of that. I had to stand and eat my food at a counter in the window. It worked for me, but may not work for you. No restroom available for customers but it’s to be expected because it’s a very small place.
