Louie’s Texas Red Hots

The Louie omelette. What happens when Texas hots marry a cheese omelette. Two hot dogs sliced into little medallions, sautéed with diced yellow onions, tucked into a three egg omelette topped with lots of gooey melted American cheese and a large ladle of Texas hot sauce. If you scarf Texas hots, Ooh baby. If you chow down on American cheese omelettes, Yowzah. If you crave the sweet aromatic aroma and crunch of sautéed onions, you might want to yell out a Woo Hoo. Sadly I could not finish. The rye toast was exactly as ordered, I like mine a little dark please. Carafe of coffee made my cup bottomless. Ordered and paid at the counter, and then a server brought everything out and checked on my progress from time to time. Good no frills food. Good service. Clean.

Well, I didn’t quite have time for breakfast before PT this morning so I decided to stop at Louie’s on the way home. I had not yet been to this location. As I entered the doorway, the imagery of the Texas Red Hots seemed to whisper, «You know you want me.» So I compromised and got the sauce on my breakfast order of two eggs and home fries plus toast.
I see a lot of comments here about poor service and I must say, I think that is being addressed because when I came here today it felt like I was participating in an employee training video – being filmed to demonstrate good service. The girl behind the counter greeted me and told me about their specials and the cook even leaned over to make a recommendation. The girl was also polite when bringing my order to the table and the coffee which came with a small carafe for refills. Very convenient.

I ordered 2 cheeseburgers and a chocolate shake. I thought the food was very good and the shake was tasty as well :)

Took a break from painting my kitchen this past Saturday to go get something to eat on Elmwood. We walked through the snow and arrived at Louie’s on Elmwood.
When we walked in we checked out the menu displayed because it was our first time there. Right away I found odd all the prices were covered. The one fellow behind the counter that was also cooking stated they were «updating the prices». Thats when we should of walked out because when I asked what certain things cost, he became very frustrated and was POUNDING the computer screen to check. Made Dan and I feel very uncomfortable. Who the heck wants a «mystery price» on something.
I ordered the veggie burger, and Dan ordered the burger combo meal with an upgrade for a chocolate shake. I didn’t want to ask another question because I felt so uncomfortable.
The lady that took the order and delivered our food was nice and I felt very bad for her. When another couple came in and ordered she had to go outside to get the guy who was shoveling to come in a cook the food and she was apologizing almost to him, «I’m sorry but you have to come back inside because we have a new order to prepare».
Once our food came it was decent. It cost me almost $ 20. They charged me $ 2 for bacon on Dans burger and he didn’t even ask for it.
The experience made us feel uncomfortable. It was our first and last time visiting. They need to train the current employees how to treat others or considering getting rid of some employees if they want their business to succeed. I can tell you one thing, we’ve never experienced this level of rudeness ANYWHERE before! So… AVOID

«If you’re in a hurry, you’re in the wrong place»
This place sells cheap fast food and you may have to wait for your order for 40 minutes or more. If you ask about your order, they will yell at you. If they give you the wrong order, they will yell at you.

Great breakfast menu and options to choose from! Chicken souvlaki salads are my favorite from here for lunch. Great service, clean restaurant, friendly staff.

Since this place opened I have gained 20 lbs. which is why you should go. Don’t forget to leave a tip because they bus your dishes and you’re a messy marv. Dudes… the breakfast Sam with beef sausage and cheeseburger deluxe can’t be ignored. Few can deliver the goods like Louie’s does at this price. Whoever said the service sucked probably deserved the shitty service they recieved, so if you’re sensitive, you should probably get a crème de menthe parfait down the street at that hooka spot over there. Mr softee don’t work here.

The waitress was so very rude! Costumer service non-​existing. Today, after working long hours painting our porch, we walked over there to placed a two hamburger order, one with sautéed onions and mushrooms, one without the onions. My husband really dislikes onions, but I love them. When the «very small» hamburgers arrived. There was onions on his hamburger and none of the sautéed onion nor mushrooms on mine. We told the waiter who brought the food to our table about the mistake and asked him to please add the mushrooms and onions to mine. A few second later the waitress came over to yell at my husband for it was his fault the order was wrong, to pay the extra for the onion. He was caught of guard and told her, «it’s my mistake? You want me to pay extra? Every one enjoying their food were also shocked by her reaction.
Then she came back with the right order for me and give him attitude again when I force him to be the better person and apologize. Oh big mistake! The hamburgers where small and the mushroom were from a can and The service was horrible. Therefore they lost two customers.

It’s Louie’s in the city. Get a chocolate milkshake and then wonder how you go day to day without one.

Finally a hot dog place is back on Elmwood Ave! The hopes were high for Louie’s and the were mostly met. If you love Ted’s hot dogs you should know up front that this is not Ted’s! If you want a hot dog in the style of Ted’s save yourself some heart ache and just go there. With that said, these guys have top notch loaded Texas Red Hot and the fries are nice and crispy.
The location is newly built out and feels like it would be nice to hang out at (I had take out this time). The staff was nice and my food came quick. What more can you ask for in a hot dog joint?
