I usually love Safeway’s breakfast burritos, but lately they’ve gone down hill. Today hit rock bottom. I ordered a breakfast burrito at the deli and this is how it came. It’s definitely the worst looking burrito I’ve ever seen. I shouldn’t judge based off appearance, right? Wrong. It had 1 very thin strip of bacon, two potato wedges, and a some egg with a slab of cheese pancaked into a 3×3 square. It fell apart as soon as I picked it up. Fail.

Meat packets open for days. Yes, days. Expired fish. I would not buy meat from this place. But they are ok on everything else.

Have you ever tried to reach their customer service by phone to try and achieve getting some customer satisfaction at this store? Well save yourself some precious time and avoid getting frustrated. I’ve tried eleven times and when the customer service department attempt failed I thought ill outsmart them and go down their phone tree, still a huge fail and when I got lucky a couple of time to reach a real person I was put on a long hold and I even got disconnected. No wonder I hear their employees complaining a lot about how poorly management treats them. Too bad because I am probably one of their many customers who is in Safeway at least three to four times a week and never leave the store without at least spending $ 70 plus. I have finally lost my patience and I’ll soon be shopping somewhere where my person presence counts. In the meantime after all this I gave up on the Burlingame branch and decided to call the Millbrae branch and after a few more attempts I finally got through to customer service. I needed to ask what I need to do with all the O Organic frozen vegetables that have recently been called back due to some chemical issues were people have actually died. Get a load of this, I have about a dozen of these bags stashed in my freezer and the clerk asked me if I still have the receipt because without it I would not be eligible to receive my cash and instead I will be issued a store credit. I said ms with the way I’ve been frustratingly treated I do not even want to know or hear the name Safeway from now on let alone setting a foot in there to spend my hard earned money. Rude, rude and then rude. After thirty one years shopping here, goodbye Safeway. Or do you even deserve a goodbye? You do not even deserve one star and the reason you got one is because if I didn’t press on one it would let me post my complaint.

This review is specific to the sandwich shop. Why do you list pesto as a sandwich sauce then charge an extra .50 if you ask for it. Either change your signage to say pesto is extra or stop charging it. Let me know when you have resolved this.

I implore all people not to use this Safeway after 945pm or so. Once they close the self check out, the lines are ridiculous. I’ve seen the lines go halfway down the aisle on multiple occasions. I don’t blame the employees. I blame their management. They severely understaff the evening shift. I’ve sat in line for up to 15 min. No joke.

Have plenty of choices here, nice and friendly staff. Hope they have more condiment to choose from.

This is just like any of your typical Safeway stores, but the parking situation is horrible. The parking spots are very small and they don’t have enough of them.

I really like this Safeway! Good amount of parking, clean store and well organized. It is my new grocery store and I really like going there!
Worst experience today with a cashier — I believe her name is Maritess(she’s wearing a name plate) For some reason, I’ve noticed a number of times(because I shop here 2−3x/week) she doesn’t greet you good morning, doesn’t smile and she just throw the groceries(like making tantrums) I guess she’s NOT happy with her job. My unsolicited advice– QUIT and go get another job that will make you HAPPY! Safeway is very particular with customer service… Wondering how can this person can still work here with this kind of attitude

This Safeway is so clean and well stocked and organized! It’s incredible. I only come here to do food runs for work, but it beats my local Safeway by a mile. One of the things that really stands out about this location is that the produce section is always well stocked and with produce that is not to over/underripe, which I find is the case in San Mateo. I only come in here early in the mornings and it’s always the same cashier. He is friendly and of course there are very few people in the store at those early hours so it’s easy to get in and out quickly. As I typically dread grocery shopping, this store makes me look forward to going!

Man oh man. I was here earlier today trying to buy a few zucchinis. I couldn’t find them, so I asked the only employee that I could find and he did not know what zucchinis were. I tried to explain for a few minutes and he finally told me they did not have them, but I could ask at customer service. I went to the front at customer service where I was told by an employee who seemed to be in a huge hurry to go somewhere that I should look in the produce section. When I explained to him that I couldn’t find them he paged someone to help in produce THREE times with no response. After nobody showed up he left me there and walked away… so I left and went to Molly Stones.

Re-review, NOW«they’ve» re did all lighting in the produce section. The whole point of the down lights was to SHOWCASE the produce. Who is making these decisions? Someone from the Midwest, no doubt. Good god we’re are going to go back to the whole store being BIGHT fluorescent lighting… the way it was in the seventies . Even the employees are depressed, can’t blame them.

This is definitely the best Safeway I have been too. It’s very clean and organized and the fact that it’s 24⁄7 is a major plus! The produce section is always neat and smells like fresh fruits. The staff here are very helpful and most of the cashiers are fast. The meat /fish section is mostly very fresh and priced well.

This is a new store. It is wonderful that the construction is finally done. I really appreciate that there is plenty of parking on top of the building. Pros: Tons of selection, a pharmacy, florist, plenty of fresh fish and meat, and a nice selection of local fruits and vegetables. Cons: Constantly busy, I have yet to visit when it wasn’t crazy crowded. Even midday you have to fight the crowds.

This store is reasonably well-kept. It does not have quite as many product options as some of the larger Safeway stores but is certainly adequate. As of late, my biggest complaint would be that Safeway is offering fewer and fewer sales, specials, and Just4U coupons to justify trips to the store. While I found myself regularly shopping at Safeway before, I now find myself going less than once a week. I hope to see Safeway return to some of the more aggressive sale and coupons that for months made regular shopping worthwhile. In the meantime, it remains a rare trip for me.

This is not my neighborhood store but I’m often in Burlingame to run errands. I have a hard time finding things on my list here and they don’t seem particularly well-staffed. I will only go to this store but basic items in the future. PROs: location, rewards CONs: parking is nightmarish, prices given the quality

This review is strictly for the pharmacy. They wasted my time and were accusatory in nature. It was my first time using their pharmacy and will not be back.

Probably one of the nicest Safeways I’ve been to, which makes sense given the area. PARKING. Can be an absolute nightmare. If you value your sanity, don’t go during any prime shopping times(after work, mostly). SELECTION. Huge selection of items, and all at the normal reasonable Safeway prices. My biggest ‘YES’ moment was seeing they carried Jeni ice cream for about $ 10, much cheaper than Draegers. Definitely worth it to come here just for that alone. Not much else to say, it’s an upscale-ish Safeway.

Why so many bad reviews? I thought the Safeway very clean and prob one of the newest store I ever been too. Deli was very organize and also had many hot meats under the oven Quick service and love the self check outs Produce area was really clean and organize too Easy parking — downstairs and upstairs If the low reviews r based on prices then people should know better than Safeway is just a convienece grocery store. Looking for low price goods? Then I suggest going to wInco or even Walmart…
