The first time I tried the restaurant was when I ordered a couple of dishes online. It was very timely when I picked up our order in fifteen minutes. The«Three Coins in the Fountain» seafood dish was very well done with fresh vegetables and seafood cooked just right in Cantonese style(lightly seasoned and quick stir fried). The vegetarian chow fun also was full of fresh crunchy vegetables, but perhaps too lightly seasoned. The shrimp dumpling(Ha Gaw) came with a wonderful light soy, vinegar, scallion sauce. All in all, very good small meal for two. After that we’ve eaten at the restaurant three other times trying more dishes. The garlic spinach longevity noodles was excellent with strong garlic flavors and large prawns, The Singapore rice noodle dish was as authentic as those made in Singapore. Almost every dish that we’ve tried there have been superb. Being an immigrant from the Guangzhou/Hong Kong area, I enjoy the freshness of ingredients used by the restaurant and the lightly seasoned approach in their cooking. We look forwart to regular visits to the restaurant.

Just to clear the air, Young Can Wok! He can wok, he can work, and pretty much do anything he puts his mind to. I saw him once cooking up some tasty orange chicken and teaching blind kids how to read brail. I mean, What a guy! The culture of this restaurant is unreal and perfectly embodies what it is really like in China. You can easily hear at your table the constant fighting of husband and wife in the kitchen and watch their children come in and out of the kitchen holding a different instrument as they go to their rehearsal. To go above and beyond, they always have an old Chinese man at the front door reading the most important proverbs in Chinese history. Like, «If it’s not an A, then you get spAyed» or «Once you go into the rice patties, you will end up in the never ending cycle of lust and death». It is some powerful stuff that can bring me to tears. Once again, this place has got everything from tai chi on the roof to old Chinese men taking showers in the bathroom. Chef chan is the best in the biz and will take good care of you. We took part in the male apcapella group in high school and called ourselves the tunic and chopsticks, for obvious reasons. #baboonendangerment2016

I have been coming to eat here for over 2 years. I love the food. I walk in today, a saturday afternoon and the place is empty. I ask to sit at the window and was told NO, its only for 4 people to sit. I told the waitress that the restaurant is empty and I would really like to sit at the window and was told no again. She put me at a table in the back corner??? I ate quickly and took my food to go. I wrote a note saying next time the restaurant is empty you should let the customer sit where they want. I left no tip. She follows me outside and tells me not to come back if I don’t tip. So I decide to school her on tipping. I walk back inside and tell her. tips are for good customer service and your service was crap. For future when it is slow let the customer sit where they want. She continued to say… I need to leave a tip. I left and will NEVERCOMEBACK. HORRIBLECUSTOMERSERVICE. If the owner was there he would have never let her talk to me the way she did. She needs an attitude adjustment.

This is our go-to Chinese place. Close to where we live, and everything we have tried here has cured our American-style Chinese cravings. Chow mein & pot stickers are our favorites, but we don’t go too often because those two items add up to a little over $ 20

I don’t know how to say this. The food is good and nothing too impressive, but every time I dine there the experience has always been extremely pleasant. I guess the cute interior and the friendly service makes it enjoyable. Oh wait, I take that back. Shanghai dumplings are delicious! Impressively delicious!!! Would def come back

Tonight was my second time ordering food online. I ordered the same basil beef, singapore street noodles as last time and tried the Kung Pao Chicken. The chicken was very good and the spice level was perfect. Looking forward to a night I can dine in and enjoy my dinner in the restaurant.

First time here and we loved it! The food was very good — fav was the Pumpkin Prawns with Candied Walnuts. Everything was great! Even a decent selection of wines with proper wine glasses. The room itself was nicely arranged and comfortable. Service was good and the gentleman that was probably the owner checked on us, answered our questions about the menu and thanked us on the way out. We will absolutely be back!

I’m always cautious about the reviews on Chinese restaurants and I was very surprised with a good experience. The restaurant is small but very nice inside and looks like it was recently remodeled. The service couldn’t have been more friendly. It was busy even though it was around 6:30 on a Tuesday night. The food was fresh, very good quality and we liked all the dishes. This is not like the more authentic Chinese restaurants that you will find in Milbrae that cater to local dishes from mainland China. I grew up on the East Coast and this is more like New York Chinese food that is aimed at an American audience. Just what I’ve been looking for…

I can barely function or enter an establishment without checking my beloved Unilocal, but I have become apathetic about actually writing reviews. Today, I was inspired! I have been wanting to try this restaurant since it replaced the tired Grace Garden. Today I had the opportunity to stop in at 2:44pm. They are open until 3pm so the lady did advise me I would have to order to-go which was fine. I asked to order a mongolian beef lunch special but was advised that lunch can only be ordered until 2:30pm and I would have to order a dinner portion. I found this odd because again, the restaurant is open until 3pm and then closes and re-opens at 5pm which would certainly be dinner time. I didn’t put up much of a fight mostly because I was a little taken aback. There were three tables of diners eating in, presumably lunch, and again they were closing soon but that doesn’t explain why I was barred from ordering lunch during their 11am-3pm lunch hours. I can only assume they were hoping to increase their revenue by requiring I order a family size entrée and separate steamed rice??? Whatever the case, I cannot rate their food but the dis-genuine service definitely deserves 1 star… if that. A restaurant is nothing without service and in service driven industries it is hard not to feel personally offended by arbitrary and questionable experiences like this. I will not be back. *UPDATE* The owner wrote back which I appreciate but he still didn’t answer the question of why it was possible for the chefs to make a dinner order of Mongolian beef but not a lunch order. Things that make you go hmmm…

Ok. More Americanized Chinese food. What I did not like was when I asked the waitress for hot tea she responded«Jasmine?». I said sure not realizing that was another $ 5. Hot tea is normally included or is $ 1 – 2. Only place I have paid $ 5 for tea is at a very high end authentic Chinese restaurant and the food/tea was wonderful. Would I go back? No.

What a nice find! It was a Monday night and I had just finished donating blood around the corner at Blood Centers of the Pacific in Millbrae. My hubby and I were looking up places to eat and stumbled across this place on Unilocal when looking for a restaurant to enjoy some dumplings or potstickers. We got here around 8 so there was plenty of parking on Broadway. The place is very cute and clean, although it was super chilly when I first arrived, prompting me to order some hot tea. The staff was very friendly and the service was pretty fast. We ended up getting the following: — Shanghai dumplings: Yum! We got 6 and it came in this huge steamer, which made me believe that they were going to be huge. Lol. Alas, when we opened it, there were only 6 small ones spread along the container. However, each little Xiao Long Bao was yummy! — String beans: I always love me some string beans! These were no different. — Singapore noodles: This was pretty good although I thought the shrimp and egg were a bit salty. Not sure if I would get this one again. Overall, it was a nice experience and I would come back!

My husband and I had lunch here after car shopping down the street. We had eaten here under a previous ownership and it was pretty standard inexpensive Chinese. They’ve upgraded the interior and have some new attractive plates. The food is kind of generic NoCal Chinese and some Thai dishes.
The service was pretty slow; seemed as though the kitchen was the hold up. The hot and sour soup was a cut above average, with good sour and heat, along with generous shot of shredded tree ears and tofu. I got the chicken in black bean sauce with eggplant. It was good, with the eggplant just at the right degree of doneness, without having absorbed too much oil, but I would have liked a little heavier hand with the black bean sauce. My husband had the kung pao chicken, which likewise was properly cooked with fresh ingredients, needed more heat(flavor). It’s a good standby joint, but not a destination.

This is clearly a American style Chinese place. Not that there is anything wrong with that. The food is good and the quality of ingredients is higher end. They are using fresh vegetables and good meats. The flavors are good and the décor is very nice. The service is a bit off. There were long gaps between dishes. To the point we were not sure if they forgot about a couple of them. The staff was very friendly, but they need to work on the service and timing.

So excited that a decent Chinese restaurant has finally arrived in Burlingame! Woohoo for not having to go to Millbrae or San Mateo for some takeout. Young Can Wok is definitely more than just a Chinese takeout joint — it’s actually got a classy interior and has been one of the busiest restaurants on the otherwise quiet Broadway Ave since it opened. It was a rainy day, so we decided to opted for staying cozy on the couch and got takeout instead. Chicken fried rice and general’s chicken are some of our standard entrees for takeout, so we opted for the same(benchmarking at its finest — hah!). The chicken fried rice was a bit bland and somewhat colorless — in my opnion, it could have used a bit more soy sauce. We mixed in some Siracha and that seemed to kick it up a notch to what we needed. The general’s chicken was amazing! Crispy, sweet, spicy deep-fried goodness… with some broccoli on the side. YUM. Prices are definitely high for Chinese food, but hey, it is downtown Burlingame. What’dya expect? Next time, we’ll be dining here to get the full restaurant experience. I look forward to upgrading it to a 4-star, but let’s see how they do.

We love the food here and would definitely give the food 5-stars, but the last two times we’ve been here, the service wasn’t that great. While the staff is very friendly, the time it takes between when the first entrée is served and when the last entrée is served was over half an hour both times. When eating family style, that may not be the worst thing, but when your child and spouse both want different dishes, it becomes each of us taking turns eating dinner when it’s fifteen minutes between each dish. Hopefully they get their kitchen operations a bit more efficient some time soon.

The décor of the restaurant is nice. However, upon entering the establishment I can tell that they’re a new restaurant. No one greeted us and we were standing for a while. That isn’t to say that the workers were ignoring us. They were SO busy. It felt very short staffed. After dinner I found out that they’ve been open for about 7 weeks– Hmm after almost 2 months I think they should have gotten their system down. The food seemed to cater to the American style chinese food. Didn’t feel authentic except for the workers were chinese and speak Chinese but the food didn’t feel authentic Chinese. It’s good though. Hubert and I were the only Asians in the whole establishment and at first I thought I thought it might have been because we were in burlingame but then I remember that Shabu Shabu is down the street and is FILLED with Asians and thus this place isn’t meant to cater to the Chinese folks.
