Disappointing. Chose this restaurant after reading great reviews. Dined with a work colleague on a Monday evening. The restaurant was empty – probably not a good sign. I was excited initially as a saw a Brunello di Montalcino on the wine list and quickly ordered that. But the rest of the evening went downhill, fast. The server was polite and went over the menu – but really did nothing more than read the description already printed, and re-iterate the price already printed. Not a sign of an experienced server or a high end place in my experience. My colleague and I asked for suggestions, what’s popular, what’s the signature dish, etc. After the server went through a few selections that all contained cheese, I interjected and said, «I should have prefaced that question with the fact I am allergic to cheese. What dishes do you suggest that do not contain ANY cheese?» He pointed out two boring pastas and I chose the«classic» taglietalle with pomodoro sauce and meatballs. And again, I asked, «no cheese, right?» My colleague made her selection. And again, before the server left the table, I light heartily said, «no cheese, right?» My colleague jokingly said, «I think he’s got it after ten requests.» I replied, jokingly, «Let’s make it 11 for good measure.» Our dinners arrived at the same time. My pasta covered in shaved cheese! I promptly said, this has cheese, please take it away. The server apologized and said my pasta would be right out. I guess stating 11 times I’m allergic to cheese doesn’t matter. The server still didn’t listen. Or care? So I’m left without any food and in an awkward situation where I don’t want my colleague’s food to get cold, and she doesn’t want to eat in front of me. My pasta without cheese finally arrived half-way through my colleague’s dinner. The pasta was average… nothing special. And, one bite into the meatball and I could taste cheese! Really?! I travel all over the world, and yes I have high standards. I chose to dine out at the best restaurants because I appreciate good food, and good service. I’M ALLERGICTOCHEESE and you keep giving me cheese. Are you trying to kill me? When the server finally came to get our plates, my colleague was eating the meatballs, I said, «oh, she’s eating the meatballs because they have cheese in them», he never even acknowledged, or said sorry. I thought for sure they would have comped the wine, or something. Nothing. Terrible service. And average food. I’M ALLERGICTOCHEESE and you kept giving me cheese. Barolo, were you trying to kill me?

The burrata appetizer is literally one of the best things I’ve eaten ever. Oh my goodness I wanted to rub it all over my face and eat 10 plates of it. The leeks offset the creaminess perfectly. The carbonara was also divine but if I had to be picky I would have liked a little more fat rendered out of the bacon. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and service as well. I will definitely make it a point to come here again.

Amazing authentic Italian cooking with many products from California, nice environment, friendly good music. N.b. Italian cooking as it is in Italy, not Italian-American.

My husband and I stopped into Barolo to for dinner. It was our first time eating in Calistoga. We have spent most of our time lower down in the Valley. The food was fabulous and the service was great. All of the employees were very nice and attentive. The Manager, Matthew was very attentive, making sure everything was perfect. We started with the Arancini and the meatballs with polenta. We didn’t order the asparagus, but saw one come out to another table and it looked delicious. We would try that next time for sure. We ordered the Pasta Carbonara to split for dinner. I’m hesitant to order pasta at restaurants for fear of overcooking the pasta. Not to worry. The pasta was exquisite! My husband and I we’re very happy. For dessert the Panna Cotta was great and the Olive Oil Chocolate Cake was to die for! We look forward to our next visit! Barolo is on our new must list!

Bottom line: The level of service at the bar was as good as the finest 5-star restaurant you will ever visit. We stayed at the hotel attached to Barolo, so decided to hit up happy hour. As it turns out, we showed up 5 minutes after happy hour was supposed to end, BUT because there was a Giant’s game on TV, happy hour is extended until it’s over — great news for us! We basically ate tapas and drank wine for over 2 hours through an extra-innings game, and throughout the course, tried some gin-based sangria they make in-house and drank some absolutely fantastic cabernet for $ 12 a glass — a bargain in my book. On top of that, the food was delicious and happy hour prices were on point. Our bartender was incredibly attentive — the level of attention he gave to every patron was astounding. Anyone in the service business should spend an evening at the bar in Barolo to see how they should be doing their job. Service at Barolo pretty much ruins me for going anywhere else! Next time we’re within an hour’s drive of Barolo, we’ll definitely make it a point to come back.

Did this place get a new chef? It has gone downhill since my last visit. It seems like the prices have gone up and the food quality has gone down. My girlfriend and I used to come in for the great pizzas but they’ve all seemed to dissappear from the menu except for the most basic Margherita pizza. The only reason I gave the third star is because of the outstanding service from our waiter and bartender. Definitely giving my business to Sam’s Social Club next time we’re in Calistoga.

We sat at the bar and had a very good experience. The place is pretty inside(marble countertop, nice modern décor) and the wine list was fab. Ordered a wonderful Chardonnay and it was perfection. Very buttery and the presentation of the polenta tots were nice. Would recommend — especially when in Calistoga! The bartender was also nice. Go! You won’t be disappointed!

Only place open in downtown Calistoga after our mudbath at the Golden Haven Spa. Usually I’m wary about recommendations by hotels because they usually get a cut from recommending customers but in this case, we were surprised. Barolo was a great restaurant. The food was amazing, however, I remembered that there weren’t as much variety as I’d liked but that’s alright. The dishes we had that night were delicious. I will definitely return here for dinner when I’m in the area again.

This is the best place, hands down! The manger Matt is amazing! His choices make this place amazing! The food, the wine, the service, all 5 stars! We went on suggestion from a wine bar employee and we’re not disappointed. Come here for an amazing experience.

While staying at the Mount View Hotel, we ordered room service from Barolo. Can’t speak to the service, but the food was great. We ordered the arugula salad, the savory zeppole, orrichiette pasta, and arancini. All of the dishes were beautiful and very tasty. Would definitely recommend.

Oh I was so disappointed! This place was not very good. My husband and I love Italian food and we’ve eaten at many restaurants in the United States and in Italy and this place was very average. Pasta tasted more like jar sauce then cooking all day. We started with an appetizer that was worthy of all the stars for this review. Fresh bread and cheese. Sort of like a drippy buffalo mozzarella — very tasty. They have a decent wine list. The restaurant location it’s in a great spot in downtown Calistoga.

The mushroom polenta app. and $ 3 drinks at happy hour is enough to transcend the noise level. That night we had vodka and cranberry. A squeeze of lime… perfection.

Very disappointed in service & food. Quality of food has gone down, not sure of the chef has changed since this summer. They don’t substitute much if you ask. I won’t be going back.

Wine tasting followed by a delicious dinner. Here is what we had Aranchi-delicious and not too much cheese-this was the best part! Burrata-this was good but not my favorite and Burrata normally is Garlic rolls with anchovies-super garlicky but tasty Pumpkin ravioli-very well done-not too rich and this portion isn’t very big Arugula and mushroom pizza-best item in the menu-mushrooms, truffle and arugula-yum! Could have maybe used a little more cheese Hazelnut gelato(we wanted vanilla too but only got hazelnut) creamy and flavorful Service-personable, attentive and not overbearing

I had the BEST service here. My boyfriend chose this place for my birthday dinner and it was the perfect spot. As soon as we sat, our waitress(I LOVEHER) greeted us with champagne on the house because it was my birthday. She described the specials for the night and as we asked what her suggestions were, she named off everything I would have ordered anyway. She was very attentive and is amazing at what she does. I hope she gets a fat raise or employee of month! We ordered the roasted beet salad, burrata and flatbread, funghi pizza, carbonara and the cavatelli. Within 5 minutes, the salad came out because she told the chef how hungry we were and he whipped it out right away. The salad was amazing!!! The burrata was delicious, funghi pizza is something you should share because all that food was pretty filling. Our main courses were so good. We ordered the extra fried egg for the carbonara. The cavatelli was delicious since I’m a huge fan of butternut squash. Our meals were paired up with pinot nouveau and it was perfect. To make my birthday extra special, they brought out the donuts with salted caramel and the panna cotta. I was one happy girl. Barolo will be my go to spot if I’m ever in the area again. Thank you for such a wonderful experience and birthday celebration.

Did a couple of days in Calistoga at a spa. Ate at different places. So, this review is for just one dinner at Barolo. We liked it. Very modern interior with a mirrored wall. Greeted by friendly staff. Service was friendly, fast, and very good overall. Had an appetizer that was a special for the night — salted cod fish balls in a creamy lemon sauce. I like them very much — reminded me of «deviled crab» cakes that I had as a kid. Spouse thought they were too fishy. Romaine salad with anchovy dressing and cheese. It was just a variation on a Caesar salad. Good. Ordered the funghi pizza. These are thin crust pizzas(as I suspected), and I prefer a thicker crust. I didn’t read the menu fully(it did say arugula), and the pizza came topped with arugula. I like arugula, so it was okay. Mushrooms were very tasty. Fettucini carbonnara was very good. Too full for dessert. But there was a panna cotta that was tempting. Prices are not bad for a resort town restaurant.(appetizer $ 10, salad $ 9, Pizza $ 15, pasta $ 18, desserts $ 9). I’d certainly go back. Yes, indeed.

We loved this small spot in downtown Calistoga. It felt like a combination wine bar and Italian kitchen. We had the Arancini, heirloom tomato salad with burrata, pizza with pepperoni and sweet peppers and the Orecchiette pasta with sausage. The heirloom tomato salad and pizza were superb. So fresh and perfectly prepared. The aracini ball was perfectly prepared but thought there was a bit too much cheese inside. The pasta was good but not out of this world. Some of the other pastas on the menu at the nearby tables look a lot better. However, the house-made pork was spicy pork perfection. The service was a relaxed pace for us city folk but excellent and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. Highly recommend!

Great Italian place in town. Creative menu and really hearty home made pastas hit the spot. Definitely didn’t leave starving. Fried risotto appetizer was good and the cavatelli and bruschetta were perfect. Just enough food per course to order lots of things and share. Cocktails were good as well.

This place was recommended by a friend, and it is great! The atmosphere is lively but not over the top. The waiters are casual and helpful — they know the food well. In had the heirloom tomato salad and the tomato and mozzarella pizza. Such similar things, you might say. Yes, but the tomatoes were so good I couldn’t resist after my salad. I went in July so it was prime time for tomatoes. Good grief — delicious(the cheeses, too). Also, I highly recommend the Calistoga Cooler cocktail. Refreshing and tangy! It’s pricey but worth it for the fresh ingredients and good quality of things like sea salt, basil, olive oil, and balsamic oil. I could taste each layer of the simple ingredients. Better food than other places in Calistoga! Consider a reservation — I went at 9PM and it was still full! Got lucky with a table, methinks.

This is my go-to place whenever I visit Calistoga. Chef Angelo really knows what he is doing and takes great pride in his food. And Luigi serves up some great martinis. Everyone who works here is nice, and the atmosphere is always lively but not too noisy. Barolo is definitely one of the best finds(if not THE best) in Calistoga if you’re a foodie. And the prices are excellent for the quality you’re getting. I really have nothing but positive things to say about this place. Go eat here when you’re in town.
