The service was bad but the sushi is very very fresh. I ordered the combo with the 9 pieces of sashimi; very large chunks of fish. The miso and salad were deplorable. The miso soup had only the bits of tofu but the soup tastes very bland. The salad was very salty. The restroom was clean. The bright green tennis balls on the chair legs looked out of place but it was kind of funny.

I really liked sushi. Since going here I haven’t been able to eat it. I ordered a hand roll, it was so horrible and smelled like bad fish. I thought, it was just a mistake and got my main dish and it tasted horrible too. I told the front desk, they didn’t charge me for the food as I couldn’t continue to eat it. The person told me «it’s just not for everyone» as though I didn’t know what it was supposed to be like. I have been eating fresh sushi since I have 13 years old and I used to love it. Since then I haven’t been able to stomach it.

Y’all need to wash your filthy hands and do a deep clean of the kitchen cause after eating a salmon/sushi combo dinner last night I’ve been puking my brains out nonstop. It’s too bad this is the only sushi in mission oaks. Never again.

Tough teriyaki steak and unsympathetic wait staff/manager. My wife and daughter visited for dinner. My teriyaki chicken was poorly cut into pieces and nearly impossible to eat with chopsticks. My daughter’s teriyaki steak was extremely tough and had a metallic taste. It was so bad that she wouldn’t eat more than one piece. When we brought this to the attention of the manager, his comment was, «oh, sorry — that steak can get a little tough sometimes» before he walked away. Most restaurants would at least offer another entrée or a remake of the offending dish. Not happening here. This was our first and last visit to Yomama Sushi.

Love, LOVE the Dynamite appetizer. The fish is always really fresh and this place is very reasonable. I try to go as often as I can, unfortunately that not often enough!

Well I hadn’t been here in a hot minute, but I was craving teriyaki, and was price-hunting. Well, they have a better lunch deal than their TO location(2 main items for $ 8 something)! I ended up not getting the lunch special aka obento. Anyway, pretty good. Although, not a fan of the cooking-with-onions thing, luckily it wasn’t terribly over-powering, but I wish I had known/remembered/gotten a heads up. Didn’t get any actual sushi this time around since that was a healing/protein-run. But I’m sure the reviews are accurate. After all, it was semi-busy for a Thursday at 11:30. Front/host guy was still the same, and of course super friendly. Sushi guys still nice too when you walk in. Will, of course, return ASAP.

Good fish and some tasty rolls at a reasonable price. Sometimes they seem a little shorthanded, but it’s not so bad. The crispy-spicy tuna roll, and the crunch roll are great.

This is a tough review to write. I could not order or dream of eating because I was totally repulsed by the extremely dirty bench cushions and the foul odor of fish. However, the staff was extremely friendly and the food was ok. We have been searching for a high quality Japanese restaurant(this is definitely not it). The sesame dressing on the salad was very light, refreshing and tasty. The miso soup was ok, but it was a bit fishy(this did not compliment the fishy odor of the restaurant). The chicken teriyaki was barbecued(nice and different) and the sauce was decent. It did not taste like it came from a supermarket bottle. The steak teriyaki was shaved and cooked until it was incredibly tough. The tempura was surprisingly good, but we would have preffered some green vegetable tempura in contrast to the squash, sweet potato and potato tempura. We will continue our search and keep you posted.

Don’t want to waste much time leaving a review for a pitiful restaurant. Because it is in near proximity to my house, I’ve given it chances time & time again. For lack of better descriptions– frozen meats, disgusting. DONTWASTEYOURTIME&MONEY.

Sometime since my last visit, wasn’t that impressed. Last Sunday about 5pm, my girlfriend and thought we would give it another try. The last star is missing due to slow service, there was only two other people in the place, and yet somehow our waiter appeared very busy?!(Is there a school for learning this technique?) That and we had to ask for the A/C to be turned on, we almost left because it was too hot and that would have been a shame because our food was excellent. I ordered the CJ roll and it was really good. My girlfriend ordered something baked, served on a shell with flames under it, nice presentation, and she loved it. We will definitely be back, hope the A/C is on and maybe a different waiter…

Quality of sushi is not good at all. I am a sashimi person and the salmon sashimi was slimy and I could smell a harsh fish taste as soon as it came to the table. Tuna was thick but discolored and the texture was way off. Friendly and good service but that doesn’t matter when it comes to quality. Won’t be back here again.

Good sushi, but not spectacular probably won’t be back. I love sushi so it really just has to be there on the flavor and I can’t say it was. The staff was attentive and sushi chef came to say hello.

This place is better than a 3, the main reason — The lunch Specials — Cheap, good and fresh. The lunch boxes are their best buy and filling. The Sushi Is innovative, but the staples are still there.

Not sure why the ratings on this place is lower than 4, however it’s great. Guess I got there at a not so busy time, there were a couple people there but as usual I sat at the bar. Talk about deliciousness, everything I ordered was great. The spicy tuna, crab, and spicy salmon were damn near impeccable! The rice wasn’t the best I must say and I mean that’s it was either clumped together with other pieces or it broke easy. Either how, didn’t take away from the deliciousness that I ate. It was fresh. The wasabi even had the fresh kick not the old stayed out too long type taste. Then I had the crispy tuna roll and I’m not sure how it was prepared or or what sauce was on it at this point all I know is that it was f’n fantastic! I was really impressed by it and the service of the people there. Definitely will have to stop by again.

Great lunch box special. Best sushi value in Ventura County that I’ve found. Sometimes service is slow when it’s the lunch crowd. Overall a nice place and convenient location.

I’m not much of a sushi guy but the wife likes to force me to go from time to time. Normally I’ll get the safe bet«chicken teriyaki and California rolls» but I decided to step out of my comfort zone. I tried the crispy tuna and crunch roll and to my surprise I actually liked it! I held my straight face as to not let the wife on to my dancing taste buds because I knew if she knew that I liked it we’d be eating sushi multiple times a week. All that being said food was good and the service was pretty good too.

First and last time here. I tend to judge sushi places on 3 things: salmon, albacore, and the rice. These are pretty simple and basic items to a sushi menu that I feel will give you a proper judgment on the overall quality of fish and preparation the sushi bar has. This placed FAILED in all 3 categories. I ordered salmon sushi, albacore sushi, and a philly roll as I wanted to play it safe for my first time here. After the first bite of salmon I had wished that I never ordered anything. My only saving grace for the meal was copious amounts of wasabi and soy sauce to hide the terrible taste of their fish and the weird wet rice it was placed upon. I will say that the waitress and host/possible owner were very accommodating and pleasant. The older sushi chef behind the bar was unfriendly and obviously hated his job in this subpar sushi spot. They also recommend that you tip with the tax included in the calculation. Not a big deal but if I’m going to be scammed for a few extra bucks, I would prefer to actually enjoy my meal. Bottom line is do yourself a favor and just avoid this place. I suggest you roll the dice and try elsewhere.
