Sushi Zone is now CLOSED. In it’s place is a new(much better) sushi place: Kenzo Sushi

Update-Sushi Zone closed a few months back and Kenzo Sushi replaced it. Kenzo is MUCH better, presentation and food wise. The service is much better as well. I have been here twice, the food is good especially for the price. Maybe I am just comparing the prices to the Chicagoland area. My daughter and I had a couple of rolls each and our bill was under $ 20 including tea and a post dinner bowl of noodles with veg that was brought out complimentary. The Bento box for $ 8.95 is a great deal! You get Miso soup, and can select 2 of 8 different choices including Goyza, Tempura, California Roll, Teriyaki Chicken and a few others. You also get a salad and rice. On my second visit my whole family ordered these and they were great. Service can be a bit sporadic, the food comes out fast though once your order is taken. We will definitely be back.

Quite possibly one of the worst experiences at a restaurant. Albeit not from the food which was average to decent sushi. The problem came with the service. I am not one to complain about a wait but when no one is in the restaurant and all you are ordering is sushi, one would think 15 minutes would be sufficient. 35 minutes after our order we stuffed our faces with a variety of rolls. When it came time to pay the restaurant would not accept my coupon I purchased from . After bickering for a minute they went ahead and decided to accept it. She took the bill and coupon in the back and came back and presented it to me along with my credit card. She had already charged me and despite it being $ 25 off my purchase I noticed the difference was literally less then $ 3!!! I mind you she already swiped my card. I went back to the register and asked her what happened and she said we were originally getting special prices. With the coupon we were required to pay full price. What a scam, I will never eat here again. I was so pissed I thought about calling the police. It made me even more steamed that she got an automatic 18% gratuity for using the coupon. NEVEREVERAGAIN!

So I’m an easy going person who eats a good amount of sushi. I came to this place because I had a coupon from , and thought it would be nice to help out a place that I haven’t been in a while. Well as soon as my girlfriend an I walked in, we were treated poorly, the people working there seemed upset that we came with the coupon, and we were the only people in the place, so I thought they’d be greatful to have paying customers. Aside from that, the service we received was not very good, the sushi chef was the guy who was taking our order, and he yelled across the restaurant to let him know when we were ready. After some lackluster appetizers(gyoza & tempura) which neither came as advertised; I was excited to try some rolls that were different from the norm. I like spicy, so I went with a few of what I thought would be spicy, but they were in fact, basic rolls with Sriracha sauce on them. Ok, no biggie for me, but my girlfriend’s roll tasted like the fish had been left out too long, and she’s been feeling nauseous since we left. So the bill comes and we’re looking over it, and it was handwritten. So we did the math and thought we were charged an extra $ 10. Nope, the guy condescendingly looks at us and informs us that he doesn’t write the $.95 in for each item. I’m actually ok with him not doing that, I understand that he does this all day, and that would seem redundant. But when you treat your paying customers like trash, and your food sucks; it’s no wonder why your restaurant is empty on a Saturday night. This is tough for me because I think that any local business needs the good reviews from a source like Unilocal. But when going out to a restaurant and spending your hard earned dollars turns into being pissed off and feeling cheated, that’s not right. I don’t recommend this restaurant, and don’t appreciate the way we were treated.

The food was fine and the service was ok. So why only 1 star? Because they’ve decided that if you are going to use a certificate, then you have to order off of a different menu(printed on printer paper with hand crossouts). The new menu has more than half of the sections crossed off, and has everything at least $ 2-$ 3 more expensive than the menu. I bought the certificate less than a week ago. If they decided they didn’t want to be good citizens, then they should have gotten their restaurant taken off the website.

I came here with my boyfriend and his parents, and it was Americanized just enough for our little group. We had the nigiri combo and the more basic sushi rolls(super california, cherry blossom, titanic, caterpillar, tuna sausage) and everything tasted fresh and fine. The presentation of the rolls was nice, which was no surprise considering how tastefully the restaurant is decorated. I think everything was well-priced. Our waitress was pretty attentive and even brought us complimentary strawberry mochi! :D I’ve been meaning to come back to try some of their fancier rolls, preferably without any parents so I can truly pig out(no holding back!) and drink too ;p

First of all, this is a Korean sushi restaurant. Not that Korean sushi restaurants are bad, but just want you all to know that they are not Japanese. I recently went to this restaurant with my family in my attempt to use a gift certificate that I had purchased a week prior to the visit. I was hoping that the certificate will help lessen the damage… my kids love those expensive nigiri sushis and that are not easy on the wallet. As soon as we entered the restaurant, I noticed that the restaurant was pretty empty — not really a good sign for restaurant on a weekend evening. The waitress nervously showed us to the table, and immediately after we sat down, told us that they don’t honor certificates anymore, because they have terminated the contract with them. «Wh-what the!!! I just purchased the certificate!!» That was what went through my mind, but I’ve already told my kids that we are having sushi and they were excited. We’ve crossed the point of no return. I know I shouldn’t let this affect my review for the restaurant, but that completely ruined my experience… especially since their certificate is still on sale at 5 days after my vist. «Really, what the ****?» We ordered some nigiris and rolls, and they were okay but the rolls were relatively small. The service was just so-so, and the atmosphere wasn’t comfortable either(cold and empty). C– Not recommended.

Sushi Zone never disappoints! My husband always gets a plate of assorted sashimi(he’ll just ask for whatever is freshest) and I’ll get a roll, usually the Philly roll. Sometimes I’ll get the Tamago sushi and the mix tempura as well. The restaurant is spacious, clean and unpretentious, which I really like. If you’re looking for a fancy place to take a first-date, Sushi Zone might not be impressive enough. It’s the type of place you bring your family for a Saturday lunch or just get together with a buddy for a beer and some sushi. The staff is very friendly and the food is good! Parking is very easy too.

Ate here thanks to a coupon but not sure if I’d come otherwise. As a creature of habit, I generally order the chirashi when I go out for sushi so that I can control my fish-to-rice ratio per bite. The fish here is fresh but cut oh-so-thinly and the portions are a little on the lean side. At $ 19.95, I expect a bit more fish or at least sashimi that is cut a little bit more generously. But the fish is fresh and the service is attentive and quite friendly. The pork tonkatsu portions are huge and the dish is very tasty — order this over the chicken katsu which gives smaller portions and is not as good. We had no problems with using the gift certificate as others have reported experiencing.

Chirashi and the chicken katsu are both a little overpriced here. The chirashi is cut a bit thinly, but it does taste fresh and tasty. The chicken katsu is a bit on the small side and was a touch over-fried. When I was here last time I had the tonkatsu which was bigger and more lightly fried. Breading was flavorful and the right thickness. I really only come here with a certificate which they happily honor. The service staff is nice and attentive without being annoying. I would like to give more stars based on the friendliness of the staff, but with so many sushi options in the south bay, I can’t justify 4 stars. 3.5 would be most accurate.

If I can give Sushi Zone negative stars, I would. Poor quality ingredients. They’re «real crab» is shredded dried, CANNED crab. Week old, fishy salmon. Terrible, terrible, terrible!

I hate to leave this review, but I must speak after my experience here. I came here with a group of friends on a Sunday evening and it was completely dead. With a group of six we decided to order a bunch of sushi dishes and share. The staff barely spoke english and it was very difficult to communicate. The food’s presentation and quality was medicore. When we received our bill, one of our group member’s had a $ 25 gift certificate she wanted to use and the waitress told her she could not use it since we ordered a bento box. HUH? The waitress’s explanation did not make sense why my friend could not use her gift certificate and they continued to argue till death do them a part. After listening for ten minutes the waitress arguing, I was completely turned off. The service was horrible and the food was ok. Now I know why this place was completely empty when we arrived. I hope after this experience the staff has at least a minimal understanding of how to better communicate with their customers versus arguing with them and continually telling the customer how wrong they are. Down with Sushi Zone Ps. I still dont understand why they would not accept the gift certificate???

You know you can’t have high expectations when this place is next to a Subway and Walgreens in a strip mall, but we gave it a chance for the cheap prices. Pretty quiet, small dining place with some TVs to keep you entertained. Their menu was actually pretty expansive especially the rolls. *Twin Peaks Roll: seared beef with avocado & shrimp tempura. Sounded interesting but did not taste great, guess beef on sushi just doesn’t work. Came in a smaller portion than we thought– 5 pieces??? random. *Screaming Opera: tuna, salmon, yellowtail with lightly fried scallions. sounded promising, but for some reason i thought it would be raw fish but everything was cooked– which made the fish really bland. Cool thing was it was like a sushi rolled inside a sushi. I think the rolls were low quality, the rice fell apart and the whole thing was chewy– not good signs for sushi rolls. *Dinner Bento Special(miso soup, house salad, rice, two items) THIS was the best deal. For just $ 9 you get lots of food and two items for a choice list of at least 12 things: sashimi to tempura to salmon teriyaki! I love choices! We got the veggie tempura and spicy tuna roll. The spice tuna rolls was definitely spicy enough, but made really sloppy. Sadly the veggie tempura was probably my favorite thing. DON’T drink the miso soup — it tasted watered down and… gross. The waitress was nice– she came around and always made sure our tea and water was filled. She kept asking if everything was good. I *would* actually come back, but ONLY for the cheap bento boxes, for a quick lunch– but staying away from the sushi.

I was coming back from work late and i was starving!!! I always end up passing this place on the way home and since I was in the mood for sushi i decided to give it a try despite its low reviews. As i walked in I was greeted by a the waitress… she was very friendly and attentive. As i sat down and started fliping through the menu i noticed that i was the only one in the restaurant. i started having second thoughts and considered leaving but stayed against my better judgement. I ended up ordering the house salad which i think had old dressing on it. it had a hint of what most of the japanese salad dressings taste like but had a sour taste to it… after having a few bites i pushed it away Then came a tempura? roll. as i started eating it it also tasted very strange. actually i think it tasted like nothing. the spicy sauce that it was smothered in was the only thing i could taste and some crunchy crumb like bread that was sprinkled on top. By the time i got home i was feeling sick. will not be coming back until they learn to use fresh ingredients and improve the quality of the food

This is my favorite sushi place ever, not just because it’s walking distance from my house, but the Pink Lady Roll is the mecca of rolls. For the fish and non fish lovers alike, the zone has everything, and always fresh and delicious. The staff always remember my name and order, they ar speedy, attentive, and speak good English. Sometimes I really don’t feel like speaking extremely loud and clear while looking the waitress straight in the eyes and repetitively referring back to the photos on the menu, the zone is a great place to steer clear of that.

Very dead around 6pm for a Saturday dinner. There was only one other table besides us there. Small place that looked normal. Food: Swamp– love this roll the best. seaweed and spicy tuna can never go wrong. volcano– rice were soggy but it was nice and warm firecracker– thin crispy baked salmon was very delicious! we also got a complimentary fried salmon roll thingy out of no where. Service: only 1 waitress and 1 sushi chef. Waitress was attentive since it was slow. Bill was under $ 40. Not so sure I would be back since I had better sushi elsewhere.

This is one of those now numerous wacky sushi places that serves strangely named rolls that aren’t necc of the highest quality but are still pretty good at something like 15 dollar a person prices that being said it’s a pretty decent one, check out the volcano roll, that roll is bananas, B A N A N A S

I’ve been here twice now, and both times I went, the place was DEAD. I’m surprised more people don’t come here. Their fish isn’t too fishy(really FRESH), the rolls are adequately sized(unlike my old fave, TGI Sushi, where the rolls are ginormous and always fall apart), the service is great(but that could be ’cause there aren’t many customers) and the presentation of the food is amazing. it’s looks so pretty you almost don’t wanna eat them(BUTDO! ’cause it’s yummy!). Teeehehehe! Everything I’ve tried thus far I loved! I’d recommend the QP Roll, French Kiss, and the Spicey Crunch!

Went here for a quick dinner on a Mon. night. After travelling all day, we were looking forward to sushi at our fave spot,(Tomo) but remembered(just in time) that they are closed on Mon. So, I’ve wondered about this place, since I pass it every day going to the gym. My friend that was with hadn’t been either. When we walked in we were literally the ONLY people there. A few others came by the time we left, but it was still more than mostly empty. The service was fine(as it should have been, since we were the only customers.) We got free miso, and green tea. I appreciate that it was free, but the miso wasn’t good. The rolls were kind of flavorless, and I didn’t even finish the ones I got. I did have a mini unagi don which was pretty good. Although, not enough of a reason to return. The owner kept asking us(as she cleared plates and bowls with quite a bit of food, and soup remaining) if we liked it. I felt kind of bad saying, no. She seemed really nice, and even offered us free ice cream.(Which we declined.) There are so many sushi places in the neighborhood, and the only way to really find out if they’re good is to give them a try. They can’t all be winners…

Came here for the $ 13 lunch buffet and left stumbling from over eating yet again. The lunch buffet is well worth if you want to try all the various rolls they have ranging from«designer» to «regular» rolls. My party tried pretty much all the rolls available and the ones that stood out were definitely the baked rolls. Their Lion and Dragon rolls were my favorite while all the other rolls were the usual fare. This place has some issues with management, I’m not sure whether its understaffed or the people working the place are just indecisive. We showed up with a party of ten or so and find out that the lunch buffet special was only at the sushi bar, but there was only around eight seats total and some were filled already. Long story short, my group was shuffled from one end of the place to another while the manager and hostess/waiter(all in one) figured out where to sit us and appended their lunch buffet policy regarding non sushi bar customers. All of this left us feeling very confused. Note: There is no dinner sushi buffet option even if the lady on the phone might say there is. Lunch buffet works by ordering one roll per person at a time. 4stars for the food but –1 for the odd service.
